HI
Im a student here in london adn i badly need a Shift
I dont ahve a lot of money to spend but i will accept all prices please contact me here or PM me or email me on
[email protected]
Im in London and i can come to Central London if required or can ventrue to surrey or around london if needed
Thanks!
Can I be cheeky and ask - why?
It's grossly overpriced for what it is. There are much better portable laptops for the price/performance, if your needs are fairly modest.
Sorry I can't help - I'm just wondering if it's really something worth desiring!

I'm the same as him... looking for a shift at the smallest price as possible.
The shift is the ONLY ONE that I want right now... every laptop is just too bad for me apart the shift.
Why? The shift is like 2 COMPUTERS... you can use both CPU at the same time .. look on internet with windows mobile part using touch screen features.. and use the vista part as a real computer with external desktop and wireless keyboard and mouse !
What the shift brings us is totally umbelievable ! Sure there are many complaints about speed/reactivity but.. HEY .. have you tried the damn EEE PC ? it's totally unusable !
Overpriced? 2 CPU , 2 RAMS, touchscreen , 2 OS ... do you have found something like this on a notebook? if there were any 15"4 with all these feature the price would be around 3000€ or $3000 .. twice more than the Shift.
You just don't realise how it is to bring a big bag all the time ... the shift is not as heavy as a laptop, it's not as large as a laptop... it's an experience of 24/24h computer .. and no laptop bring that !
And you got SMS + 3G + GPS + Phone (soon).
I don't really know why you think this is overpriced...
And what about battery ? My laptop is just able to do 30min of computing... the shift is more about 3hours ! .. and 7 days for navigating on internet ...
Sure... there are nothing most valued than the shift.
Lol he's completly right, iv been searching those websites like the loot etc (im always outbidded on ebay by about a 100 pounds lol)
So does anyone know anyone selling one?
I'm still not convinced though. I love HTC's stuff, but for the money, and given that most of us have HTC phones in our pockets anyway, why not get the Diamond and a HP 2133?
I'm just concerned about the shift going like the Universal and Athena- too big for a phone, too specialised for a general purpose laptop.
Just my 2 cents, as I'm highly tempted towards the 2133 - little Vijay555.1 likes to watch films on the train, and a little sub-notebook would be a nice idea.
Have you guys considered importing the shift from the States?

the HP 2133 is too big, I think, to carry 24/24h .. impossible to put in a pocket. and the PDA (like HTC Touch, Diamond, ..) have a too small display ... it's hard to have "good" applications with this small display.
yeah .. I have already considered importing from the States... but it's still not cheaper than in Europe ... it always returns to 1200€

heh, the processor in the shift is better than in the hp 2133. the shift is just fine as a plain subnotebook if someone wishes to use it as such. the fact that it has a second processor doesn't mean it makes the x86 any less usable.
i think it is a great device, and not much more pricey than the athena was when it came out!

My girlfriend is looking for a PocketPC, in terms of ergonomics, would you say this model is better for women?
I don't think it is that simple, that certain devices are better for women or men. If you have small hands, it would be good.
But is your gf a geek? My wife is for sure not, and she is very happy with her dead tree calendar/addressbook and her simple Ericsson T65 phone (and she didn't want to inherit my old Cassipeia PDA).

Woman and computers , if you ask me, that doesn't match very well
I thought females preferred LARGER packages!
SOME of the women dont like messing with complicated **** all they want is to make calls and recieve and calendar etc. any phone will do. But if your woman is ready to mess with files and registry keys and not get irritated about hard-resets. If she's an avid PDA User then JAM is the way to go. But i have never seen a girl/lady carry one.

Hehe, if i see a girl holding a Mini and it's all supped up with accessories, that'll be good
At least that's a girl who'd understand why i spend so much money on gadgets and am always broke....haha...
Don't you hate it when your GF's always complaining why you spend so much money on "toys" and not on her? haha

I agree that it doesn't matter whether you're male or female - if you're into computer toys you'll love a mini!

I saw a women using a magician in a popular TV sitcom (US). I remember saying outload to everyone in the room, " Look ..Look, OMG that women is using a phone just like mine." Then they just looked at me like soo. I guess they didn't understand my enthusiasm
Thanks for all the replies.
My original posts focused on ergonomics, but someone says it best:
"If you lke sophiticated toys (something like that) you'll like the Mini."
It is a great gear, ain't it? Too bad with all the things you can do, the original battery can't quite taking it to "be all it can be"...
My wife has accidentally dropped my MDA on the floor as soon as she has held it in the hands for the first time. My MDA has scratched now. I think this device will be killed soon if she'll be its owner.
I have to agree with georgexoasi. PDA/smartphone combos have so far been for techies who don't mind updating the ROM (or more likely wait for the next update, even if ther's nothing to fix).
The only stable smartphone platform I know of is Series 60 Symbian.
My P900 showed promise but dried up with a crap one handed interface and very little 'cool' software.
The iMate Jam has been the best one so far, but it still requires a weekly reboot and it still has sound quality issues etc.
If she want a smart looking phone get a razr, if she want's a gadget get the Jam!

A weekly reboot? Can you please elaborate?
he's probably talking about a soft-reset wherein your device reboots and cleans up a bit, releases ram etc etc. I do it everyday or when my device seems to be slowing down. takes only a few seconds, natural for ppcs.
Sorry to bump a 1 month old post, but I just gotta say that both my sister and my fiancee are looking at getting Jams of their own.
All it took for my sister was seeing "Who wants to be a Millionaire" and "Virtual Pool".
And my fiancee just loves all the skinning, themes, and Solitaire!
Plus they both wanted to get iPod minis until I showed them pPod with my 1gig card!!
Between the 2 of them I barely get to play with it!!

Now that sounds cruel, be nice, and anyway it's not what we need that matters, none of us need ANY of these devices or virtually any fancy technology. We just WANT them and we want them NOW.

Hey All
Just ordered myself a HD2 off of Ebay. Paid $750aud inc shipping. Finally decided to retire my slow old Xperia X1, will prob just keep using it to test new rom's that come out....
Now I have a few questions. Are they're any special tweaks or cabs to install to make it better? What case's are people mainly using with the HD2? Any general problems or things I should know?
Thanks everyone
I think that is very personal.
I am using cookie tab now and it is very good for what i like about a phone. Just look around this forum and read, try and experience !
It`s very nice to try tweaks especially if they are in a cab. If you don`t like it, just uninstall. If anything is not good the folks here will help you set thing right again.
Its a great forum for a great phone

You will not be disappointed... I was worried about the lack of keyboard when I made the change from the X1 to the HD2 and I can tell you its not a problem... for tweaks a must is BSB Tweaks (found on here in a sticky I think), has loads of tweaks that are very handy... there is also a thread on things to do with your HD2 when you get it... some of them are covered by bsb others not so much all handy... I have not yet had a problem with my HD2 but some do... again there are loads of threads about this problem or that... so far (touches wood as probably just jinxed myself) its been all gravy...
I reckon you should stay with the oem rom for at least a week and research this forum. customising your hd2 is a very personal thing, what suits one will not suit another. there's a thread which people post there must have apps, I would try there first. that's my opinion
It is interesting to see how fast the pricing of the Leo drops from 820AUD at the end of Jan to 750AUD now.
But anyway I recommand you to test your device for few days before doing some flashing or customising to see if there is any hardware issues
If I were you I would install several tweak softwares like BSB and HD2Tweak.
just to cover all the available reg tweaks
Just my tiny bit of advice
The Leo should amaze you lol
Cheers

hi guys, i want to ask~
is AU's telstra version hd2 using exactly the same frequencies with US's T MOBILE versions?
thank you.
im not sure if AU's version can use China's WCDMA frequencies.
Ebay
I just hope you get it. I ordered a phone via ebay before and got burnt along with many others, had a good rep etc. Anyway Ebay are basically useless in terms of assisting to get any $ back.
Other than that you'll love it, its a great phone and very customizable.

Like 6-7 month you mean ? Sure that a good idea.
Well after spending approx 500$+ what do we get..???
An awesome hardware with not so awesome OS..!!!
I feel like I am using Windows 95 on my Quad Core Desktop..!!!
We still have no Android Port [I know its not an easy task & I do respect the people who are workin on it], we are not gonna get WM 7 on it..!!!
So finally do you really feel you've got value for your money..???
I am using Iphone too [its 3G not even 3GS], to be frank I find its OS much better than WM 6.5..!!!
The thing is whatever I can to on my LEO I can even do it on my ELF juts has small screen & less graphics..!!!
My friends said "Hey why did you spend so much its almost like your overgrown HTC TOUCH, has nothin that new"..!!!
you know i keep hearing ppl unhappy...tell me, what the hell is wrong with wm6.5! with sense convering the main stuff, everything else is snappy. what on earth is so bad about wm? and yes i have used an iphone and android, and iphone is too simple and boring, android seems good but i dont feel that it offeres much more than apps which i hear isnt that great anyway
so tell me...what are your gripes with it? imo the HD2 rapes everything out there
you just said its crap and havent said what exactly is crap
I feel i have my moneys worth...yes the HTC Sense software can be buggy at times, freezes, crashes, but MOST of the time its pretty darn good!

are you running a stock rom? flash a custom rom, and belive me your hd2 will FLY. and sense wont crash, trust me
i think i have...
anything that keeps the missus occupied for a hour allowing me peace and quiet is a damned bargain for me!
having owned HTC devices for about 5 years now, i never get bored with them, mostly down to this community right here... i have you all to blame for many sleepless nights flashing roms, customising themes and general geekiness
to put the whole Iphone/HD2 thing to rest...
when presented with a half-finished product, a man will attempt to solve its problems and get the most out of whats on offer... 99.998% of women allowing for the few dedicated female members here ) would get bored after 5 minutes and give up.
when presented with a product thats all form and little function, a woman goes 'wooo! shiny! all the celebrities have one so i must too!' a man looks at it, thinks "what a pile of chrome plated poo" and will never again set eyes on that product.
as you can see i'm clearly biased, but then im a man and i wont let the laziness of a few microsoft employee's get the better of me
in short, the amount of time my missus and i will share tinkering with the HD2 (without arguing thank god) is easilly worth the money i paid...

Im uk based mate. on t mobile too. got the hd2 for free and 50% off line rental on the friends and family scheme, making it 17.50 a month for 1200 mins unlim txt and unlim internet i was taking the piss cos he doesnt wanna belive that the hd2 is a good phone, so its sad for him to have spent so much on a phone he doesnt even WANT to like. I gave him reasons to like it and he ignored them completely
$500......? I know I didn't even come close to spending that. I spent all of $50 to get mine. So ya I feel I got my moneys worth.
Ok, I don't know if I am going through a buyers remorse but here are my 2c
The phone (Hardware):
One word F**kingawesome (yes, thats a single word...according to me )
Software:
OS:
Has my type of apps that I can tweak and play with...that's a good thing
Stability:
Hangs on me a couple of times a day (my mistake, I keep putting stuff on it and testing apps a LOT) but thats the way I like it...
conclusion:
Awesome phone as it...but
eagerly waiting for the android port (not so much for Win7 though...it doesn't look like a tweaker's OS)

I upgraded today to the Samsung Galaxy Note, and retired my trusty HD2. I just wanted to come on here and thank all of the fabulous developers for the HD2.
It truly has been the best phone I have ever owned, the note has a lot to live up to.
Many thanks to the whole HD2 community, in particular Cotulla for MAGLDR, and Tytung for his fabulous ROMs, of which I was an avid user, and which will continue to help me by adding resale value to my HD2
Goodnight!

Hey, no need for retirement, I can take it for you
Just sold my HD2 via gumtree. Spent ages writing a glowing description of the phone and its capabilites, loaded it with the ICS CM9 build and put my windows 7 activation key for live in the box.
The guy who bought it then hands it off to his 8-9 year old daughter, and I realise it's for her. I give it a week before it's smashed to pieces from being dropped from her tiny hands.
Disappointing that my immaculate and well cared for HD2 is going to someone who won't make use of all the benefits this phone has to offer, but he paid my initial asking price off the bat, and I had expected to be haggled down a bit as is standard practice for gumtree.

you mean a lot of space of your pocket, that is IF it even fits.
Just kidding , Congratulations on your new phone, However, the HD2 will be the best in my eyes , and with the new Cotulla's UltraROM, I see a milestone .
the only worthy upgrade from a hd2 to a note !!
i too am planning to upgrade to a note shortly !! !!

UltraFruit, a Windows Phone 7 ROM with a lot of improvements !
I did see that improvement, however, it still needs more tweaking as it suffers from some issues.
Find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21481947
@OP: it's a pitty you had to sell your HD2. I decided to keep mine, even knowing that in the next few months I'll upgrade. It's a milestone and, besides, I would get much less than what it still worths.
What do you think of the Note? I've been following the Note's forum on XDA and pretty much everyone is pleased, even though the screen issues with color banding and black blocking. Is it more pleasant to read than the HD2? Can it achieve the same low brightness levels of HD2?

Even in its dying moments the HD2 must have made the little girl very happy.
Long live HD2, the HD2 is dead.

As for the rest HTC HD2 it is still quiet far from dying any time soon.
