giving up on the HTC

Its over, I have spent way too much time, trying to make this thing do what I want, and in the end, it works, but it doesn't work well.
These devices we play with are not user friendly, we have to try and make them do things that they should do when we buy them.
I have no more time or patience for windows mobile

All the best. I'm sure the next SE/NK/SS/MT phone you get will help you wash the dishes, wash the car, fix the fridge and even walk your dog for you.
Just kidding, I'm not so sure a non-WM phone can do as much... and in my opinion, the Hermes is about as featured as anyone can want.

It's not really about what it can do, it's about how user friendly it is. We all have to admit that Windows Mobile isnt very user friendly or intuitive at all but most of us are willing to live with that since we can install apps that fix Microsoft's crappy work. I love my hermes but Im really tempted to get some other phone that 1. isnt a brick and 2. I can use with one hand.

Well, user-friendly ratings vary from person to person. I find it perfectly alright, and I don't expect to use a PDA phone with one hand. I'd get a Smartphone for that.
I moved on to the Hermes after 2.5 years on my old HP 6365, which was WM2003 (not even SE).
I'm a Linux convert, so that says much about my disdain for MS. But WM is still years ahead in virtually every aspect.

You can get an HTC Touch. For most tasks (I'd guess about 90%), you can use only one hand.
I hear your pain though. I had an HTC wizard for a little while, and gave up on it as well. It was too much of a brick; too big and heavy. I went to the samsung U600, used it for about a month, and ran back to HTC. Nothing out there right now does as much as windows mobile can do (not even the iphone), so I decided to get the Touch. A great phone by any measure, certainly not a brick and very user-friendly due to the TouchFlo system. Good luck!

Agree, Hermes w/wm are overall one of the most scalable and customizable ppc's around!

True, but they are very intimidating to a new user. I have an iPhone as well as my Hermes, and the difference in "out-of-the-box" usability is significant.
I still say though, that the iPhone is great as a multimedia phone. But real power users who know how to tweak a phone will always use Windows Mobile (My wife is actually using the iPhone right now).

unfortunatly tru...it still is windows...but htc is doing incredible things with the today screen...i loved the original htc home...and now this is so much better...
hopefully there will be a cab soon to use this home screen on my touch.

Actually, I think the iPhone took a lot from older HTC phones and put it in their own package.

I understand what you are talking. In my opinion, Iphone also trying to be more like windows. Apple tried very hard to add Microsoft office into their phone. And they also start to open their app to 3rd party (windows had done it long time ago). I think that each phone is trying to add as much as ability they can to become the most powerful phone. It is hard to say which phone copy which phone.

i think we shouldnt start the old iphone discussion again, but:
The iphone was more innovative than any other phone. Appel was the first that realised that mobile Internet will be the future.

I don't think it wants to be an iPhone but an iPhone killer. Personally I (for the first time) skipped a generation and didn't get a Kaiser upgrade from my Hermes (AT&T branded) as it didn't seem as impressive as the upgrade from my Wizard to the Hermes... actually my Wizard from the Blue Angel was the most impressive jump, then I met Jose Faria ...
The HTC Raphael (Diamond with a keyboard) is definitely worth the wait I believe.
As for the iPhone, big deal. To me it's just an iPod that can phone home. The browser IS nice but that's about it. As a phone it sucks. Edge sucks. No DirectPush email sucks (so what that it'll be available in June or so they say) And the lack of a real keyboard.... SUCKS! Very few people I know are really happy with their iPhones, but then that's probably just the crowd I hang with...

their have been a handful of phones that try to imitate iphone... but the majority that dont far outway the majority that do...
simply put i think users want to imitate the iphone more so than the companies

Personally I believe discussing which phone is best, without specifying your needs, is pointless because it's all due to perspective. However, as far as "comapny's and people trying to imitate." Thank god they are! That's the type of competitive marketing that brings new ideas and technology. Hell, that's why the iPhone is here. So please stop complaining "Th3yr try1ng t0 b3 li3k if0ne!" because after all, the PS3 is just trying to be like Atari!
That being said, I am more interested in the Raphael than the Diamond. I wasn't impressed with trying to use the OEM keyboard on the Touch, so unless they fix that, I'm loving my QWERTY. Although, if they fix it, it WOULD be nice to be able to type single-handedly..

The Truth about the Nexus One. *NON-BIASED*

Now that I have sold my Nexus One. i was very sad immediantly just because the phone was sexy as hell and amazing speed. The college i got accepted to sends all incoming freshmen a iphone 3gs and are required to use it to keep in contact with professors.
Now that thats said i want to continue with whats the truth about the nexus.
1) i had a problem with the headphones along with alot of other people when listening to music threw your headphones that came with the nexus you would get a shock... for me it mostly happend when i was plugged into a computer
2) DUST...omg the dust i got under the corner of the screen was annoying the crap out of me. i couldnt get it sent back because i wanted to keep the engraving on the phone. and i didnt want to wait 2 weeks for them to send me my phone back.
3) the phones speed is AMAZING but i feel as if google hasnt completly utilized the speed and GPU yet. *if they can pull this off, things would be so much better than the iphone*
want to add other things about this phone *without being biased* ? go ahead lets see if we can get some good information in here for new android users

Non-biased my ass. The only thing the iPhone does better than the N1 is the app store. To say they need to work on their GPU is just a pathetic representation of a review...

THe headphones that come with the N1 doesn't work well on other standard 3.5mm jacks because the pins are specifically designed for the N1. Apparently if you insert the headphones into your computer half way it should work like normal headphones.

There was exactly no reason for the OP as he just stated a few well-known issues that people can experience with this phone. Every device has a its own set of issues and the OP will now be fortunate enough to experience the many IPhone problems.

Your is a possessive term, where as you're is the conjugation of "you are". So in the future, make sure you check if your usage is right by replacing the term with "you are" and seeing if it makes sense to you.
Anyway dude...bro... you need to grow up and stop acting like an e-Gangsta. To be fair, nothing you posted is anything new. We've all heard it all before and so the thread is a flaming waste of space. That being said, good luck in college.

The phone has a powerful processor and an impressive amount of RAM. I dont think it uses either one nearly to its potential (at least i hope not), which is kind of cool because, although the phone is smooth and fast, the performance ought to be able to be vastly improved with software updates. I like the phone a lot but i also think its fair and justified to expect a lot more from it down the road.
If anyone that knows about hardware can confidently tell me not to expect much more from the device please post that information so that i may sell this phone. thanks

Jesus is a baller, lol, im still confused about this dust issue, does anyone have a picture of what this is all about? I got mine the day it launched and I have no idea what people are talking about I havent had any problems with dust and really cant see how it could get under the screen, I keep mine in my pocket every day so Im sure it woulda happened by now if it could. Id also have to agree that the only thing the iphone has is the app store, once androids gets up there it will be a lot better because there's a lot more potential. Id already have to say that handcent, dolphin, and google voice are good examples of that because apple only lets you use their stuff and blocks something if they already have an option is pretty wacksauce in my opinion, why not let the people choose which they like the best, makes no sense to me. Oh well. /rant

play playstation games....in fact ill giv you another. endless customisation...eg cookies mod, the new mod that gives you tasks on the home screen...just today i wanted to increase the maximum of 6 joint sms's...managed to do it with a reg edit. and a 4.3 inch screen that no other phone has, theres a third!

Well just havin a big screen don't mean that much bro..!!!

are you running a stock rom? flash a custom rom, and belive me your hd2 will FLY. and sense wont crash, trust me

anything that keeps the missus occupied for a hour allowing me peace and quiet is a damned bargain for me!
having owned HTC devices for about 5 years now, i never get bored with them, mostly down to this community right here... i have you all to blame for many sleepless nights flashing roms, customising themes and general geekiness
to put the whole Iphone/HD2 thing to rest...
when presented with a half-finished product, a man will attempt to solve its problems and get the most out of whats on offer... 99.998% of women allowing for the few dedicated female members here ) would get bored after 5 minutes and give up.
when presented with a product thats all form and little function, a woman goes 'wooo! shiny! all the celebrities have one so i must too!' a man looks at it, thinks "what a pile of chrome plated poo" and will never again set eyes on that product.
as you can see i'm clearly biased, but then im a man and i wont let the laziness of a few microsoft employee's get the better of me
in short, the amount of time my missus and i will share tinkering with the HD2 (without arguing thank god) is easilly worth the money i paid...

Apps
Google Maps and Bing Maps are a joke compared to Google Map on the iphone. That is the one app I miss a lot on my 3gs. They are so freaking slow on the HD2.

Im uk based mate. on t mobile too. got the hd2 for free and 50% off line rental on the friends and family scheme, making it 17.50 a month for 1200 mins unlim txt and unlim internet i was taking the piss cos he doesnt wanna belive that the hd2 is a good phone, so its sad for him to have spent so much on a phone he doesnt even WANT to like. I gave him reasons to like it and he ignored them completely

$500......? I know I didn't even come close to spending that. I spent all of $50 to get mine. So ya I feel I got my moneys worth.

Has my type of apps that I can tweak and play with...that's a good thing
Stability:
Hangs on me a couple of times a day (my mistake, I keep putting stuff on it and testing apps a LOT) but thats the way I like it...
conclusion:
Awesome phone as it...but
eagerly waiting for the android port (not so much for Win7 though...it doesn't look like a tweaker's OS)

Yes, $500 is excellent value.
The fact I got mine free was a bonus, it is an awesome piece of kit.
Mine is rock solid stable, has what I need on it, and tweaked to how I like it.

This thread is a bit of a waste really but i just thought i would share my opinion !
well my sister came around yesterday and started flashing her new ipony4 about, so i grabbed it and had a play and at first glance I liked it over the old 3gs, the screen res for a smaller screen than my hd2 was impressive but then my sister start telling them all the problems she is having with it in the last 2 weeks oh how i laughed !!! ha ha
but getting back to me playign about with it it wasnt even 5mins later i was borrrrrred to death with it !!!!!!
I cannot work out for the life of me what the big fashionation is with the iphone! I think its like marmite, you either love it or hate it and I Hate it!!!!

Same with me.
Work colleague got it recently and must admit screen does look impressive, much better clarity than older models.....but that is basically it, there are no other new features that impressed me despite how much she tried to show it off
ha - also they are paying £50/month plus £15/month insurance 18m contract............and they also had to pay money towards handset...........I am not kidding! oh yeah, and she had to buy a case for it in order to use it for its most basic of functions, calling people.
They said to me, "Aren't you tempted by it?"
"Lol I pay half that for a phone I got 8 months ago which is still better in every way"

Its all down to how they have had it advertised, as with all Apple products.
There not mind blowing, just cleverly advetised.

I don't think I'd ever want to go back to a smaller sized screen. The new iPhone may have a better resolution or clearer screen or whatever, but it's still small.

I know what you all mean - once I've had my leo, I cant seem to like anything else. Besides, the HD2 has come a loonng way since it came out. With the amazing job that people here at XDA are doing, I'm now thinking this phone is 100 times better! I've just flashed my latest ROM after not having an HD2 for a few weeks and everything is so smooth like butter! If I compare my phone now with a stock HD2 it will look like I'm using different phones, it's amazing!

I have to agree, I'm so used to my hd2 that whenever I use my ipod touch, I get frustrated with the size. Especially the keyboard!

ipony4... This makes me giggle.

i love both but i lean more towards the iphone but i lost that a long time ago

pmsl since I posted the 1st post I have just found out that my sister has returned the phone due to keep freezing and locking up and they wont take it back hahaha but she did ask the salesman what other phones would he recommend and he said xperia x10 or the htc hd2 and then she said what phone do you own and he said the HTC HD2..... I rest my case.....
my sister is not impressed !!!! anyone want to buy an iphone4 hahaha

Hilarious, I nearly fell off my chair.
This just about wraps it up.
Like said earlier its all advertising hype. They did a fantastic job selling the "basic" 3GS model & then totally screwed up by trying to step it up a notch.
I think the way iphone's been sold is by having people convinced (without actually saying so) that apple are actually pioneers in the big/touch screens.

Unfortunately, the counter video is nowhere near as hilarious as the original. The original is just awesome, even my friend with an iPhone 4 thinks so

thats not a conter, it needs to be better then the original to be a counter.. this one is like made of 10 year old kids who got depressive in comparing their iphones to other devices like the evo.
