Hi,
can anyone tell me by how much is my battery time decreased by the use of Bluetooth on an XDA II
Many thanks
Steve
absolutly loads, i was setting up my mate gps in his car and it flattened the battery in the car in about 15 mins!!!

yes, it does .... but not much as compared to using GPS and BT at the same time, additionally you may set different BT signal strenght (at least I had that option in my IPAQ with WM2003) that reduces battery drain

monika
It would be nice to be able to change BT signal strength on the XDA, but I don't think it is possible. What worries me is that the XDA might be using the higher strength BT signal when it actually doesn't need to. Obviously if things were coded correctly, then you'd want the XDA to look after power levels...
Bottom line is that BT on the XDA seems to be a major power hog.

that's a pity then .... for me seems like XDA II (apart from 128MB and 16bit screen) looks like crap all around, nice and stylish bug buggy inside
but ... is there a way one can measure BT signal strenght ??
and still, in my humlbe view, BT DOES NOT utilize much battery power while set to on
regards, monika
This appears to reinforce the fact that the BT stack on the XDA is pants. I cannot understand how or why its functionality and features are so crippled when compared to the ipaq for example. If anyone has any insight I welcome it!

Using Bluetooth navigation
I am using TomTom Navigator 2 and an Emtac Bluetooth GPS
A 20 minute trip did not drain more than 10-15% I believe.
I find my XDA (Orange M1000) quite stable, my only problem so far is a lock-up if the device powers off when I have a VPN connection to work enabled with traffic going on.

Ok.. I NEEED this device!
But before I spend a heap of money on it, I'd like to know a few things;
When in vibration mode; is there any difference in the vibration of SMS or Ringing?
Does BT handsfrees work well with the device?
Can you use "Universal TV remote" programs?
Does it support WPA on WLAN?

dont have any answers but signal could be
both
2G (gsm) signal
2½G (edge) signal
3g (utms) signal
My bad
Sorry, I was referring to reception quality.
I feel that my Himalaya is worse than a "normal" phone..
and so were I
and i feel it likely that it could very well depend on what type of network you were on
gsm, edge or utms
When in vibration mode; is there any difference in the vibration of SMS or Ringing?
SMS is a short buzz where as ringing is several long buzzes.
Does BT handsfrees work well with the device?
It seems to. No problems with my BT800 although it still doesn't push the phonebook entry name to the headset, just the number. Can't believe that HTC still haven't fixed this.
Can you use "Universal TV remote" programs?
Don't see any reason why not. I haven't tried but it supports consumer IR just like the BA
Does it support WPA on WLAN?
Not sure. I don't think so. Someone else will have to answe this
How is the signal compared to a standard SE/Nokia/Motorola phone?
Seems to be as good as my SE Z1010 and my SPV C500. No complaints from me anyway
It does support WPA with a Pre-Shared Key. I simply turned on Wi-Fi, the Jasjar found my AP, prompted me for my key - I entered it and was connected. All of this happened in less than 30 seconds! Wi-Fi seems to be significantly improved compared to the BlueAngel I was using before.

YES!!!
The Himalaya just has a looooooong buzz for any "Beep" or what ever sound the device would usually make..
As for BT handsfree; the Himalaya running WM5 was usable..
Couldn't initiate calls with the HF, but accepting was possible.
Quality and stability was allso ok.
With WM2003SE, it was LOUSY!
So if you can use the BT8080, it's probably just fine..
The IR on the Himalaya was non-standard, but the BA was ok..
Now I only have one problem:
I WANT THE DEVICE EVEN MORE!!!
But they won't arrive in Norway untill medio December..

I installed a couple of universal remotes, some are better than others. Regardless, the signal to the tv/vcr/xbox is perfect, not like the other imates I’ve had.

What's the range that you get on average? I haven't seen any indications that it really supports 'consumer Infrared', instead of modulating a CIR signal onto a FIR bearer...

I recently spent £45 on a wired GPS, but later found out that the wizard is only compatible with bluetooth GPSs.
Are all Bluetooth GPSs compatible with the wizard? I just want to make sure before I buy one.
Yes I think you won't have a problem as long as it's bluetooth.
I'd recommend going for a decent GPS device even if it costs a little extra.
You must get a Sirf III model, as they give better reception.
The best one of these is the GlobalSat BT-338 GPS Receiver.
Check out a new review here:
http://www.mtekk.com.au/tabid/54/ar...ticleId/665/GlobalSat-BT338-GPS-Receiver.aspx
After some comparison tests with two different Garmin device models, the BT-338 performance simply knocks the socks off the others. This unit is very easy to use, very affordable and has exceptional signal sensitivity. The BT-338 works flawlessly with my XDA Atom (running WM5.0) and OziExplorer CE. Battery life is terrific, as my last trip of 12 hours return didn't see the BT-338 indicate low battery at all.

Hi,
I have an i-Blue GPS receiver for my Wizard model. It bonds and works flawlessly so far. I use it with iGuidance software from iNav. The latest bugfix on the iNav site fixes a minor 3D display issue.
I choose the iBlue over the Global because I liked that it wakes and sleeps automatically and in sleep mode it gets several hundred hours of stand by time and 30 hours of use time. So far I have used for the last 7 days and have not seen a low batt warning at all. It just sits in my vehicle asleep and when I switch to my car profile turning on BT it does not wake up until I start the iGuidance software which is nice!!! I like it a lot.
I was going to use the tom tom software but after seeing the hoops you have to jump through to get it installed on the Wizard I went with the iGuidance software. Mind you its not that tough to install but I just did not want to pay good money to have to jump around to get it working on my handheld. Take care and I really am enjoying the nav features the software provides.
Hello,
I own a s200 since last week. My first impression:
improved in many ways in comparison to my old Qtek2020 with WM2003
- better usability with WM5 and the additional buttons
- better power management
- better integration of phone (had problems on my old device with missing calls and missing sound at calls)
- size now so small that I can carry it like a normal cellphone
- speed is OK for my purposes (standard programs plus OziExplorer)
- power drain better than with Qtek2020
Not so good:
- sound at phone calls should be louder
- WiFi works good, but range should be larger (my s200 works up to 10m if there is no wall in between)
- small touch screen more difficult to operate (but I prefer a small device, that I can carry all the time)
I think the s200 will very useful for me (it will be my brain extension ...)
Cheers, Gerd

Hi, I'm thinking of buyig a S200, nevertheless I'de like to satisfy some doubts? Is it really as bad as its said with movies and apps like tom tom and route 66? I heard it was slow...
I have the possibility to try it for a few days and then exchange it for a S100 (magician) if I'm not happy with it, but the Wi-Fi is the main reason I'm gonna buy it, so I really need to know...

Do you use a .G router and do you use maximum power. I use a .G router and I have a connection through walls and everything till about 20 m. My laptop can go further, but still I'm impressed.

No the newest Dopod ROM is fairly fast for everyday uses. For movies I would use some overclocking @240mhz almost everything is as fast as the 416 mhz intel. But for Tomtom that isn't really necessairy, although overclocking will speed up, the starting-up time of the program...
I tried some of the registry hacks regarding the sound level and up to now I don´t found a sufficient setting. But I will invest a little bit more time for playing around.
My WLAN router operates with B/G setting, the s200 with maximum Wifi power. With one wall in between and perhaps 8m distance i got about 20% signal level. But that may be also a problem of my router or the environment.
Are there tools available which show the signal strength of all WLANs around?
Cheers , Gerd[/quote]
Gerd, you could try Ministumbler from http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/
The PC version has a nice graph showing connection quality, not sure about the Mini version, but give it a try.
I can overclock to 264 or so ..anything over that blows up (slow down)...Id suggest 264 rather than 240..since I beileve 264 is stable anyhow...however, i use a pretty cool custom rom that may have been configured just for that
Sadly I dont agree with screen size being good..its small and as small things go, leaves out lots of functionality..the processor is SLOWER than the HTC Magician according to Microsoft Tech Team..which means...the smaller you go, the diff processor you use (to make it look fast) yet the OS WM5 uses a bit more resources (as expected) and so the new processor is still ****..oh well..size vs. speed.

Hello.
I have a Qtek 9100 and as i have posted in 9100's thread, all HTC new devices and especially 9100 and S200 have crap wifi.
I have tested many many ppc's and ended up that the signal of wifi in S200/9100 is about 50% less than other devices!
S200 - all-in-one
I used to own an AXIM X5 then after 2years X3 with a separate mobile phone, which i carry all the time together.
Yes the S200 is slow but all functionality works fine (wifi,bt,gprs, msoff,,,etc). i cant ask for more for the size of this.
My question is, does anybody here who owns an S200 have tried overclocking it (omapclock), if yes can you please send me the instruction to do this.
thanks in advance.
/gerald
I'm really happy with my S200, contrary to some of you, I have great WiFi reception even trhough walls.
I wardrive a lot and I can connect to hotspots from really far away. I can tell because the SSID broadcast sometimes display the company name and I often realize the building is not near at all.
On the movie watching side, I can see full movies with no OC at all. It really depends on how you encode the movie in the first place.
You'll love it!

- Incall volume / quality
- Network Signal
- Wireless Signal
- Multimedia reproduction

Small, light, cool design, lots of RAM, fast CPU, => fast response, light detector (automatic backlight control), cool touch SW from HTC, USB Mass Storage mode, D-pad (hated roller on Artemis), strong WiFi. Did I mention fast CPU and lots of RAM?

Reset button under battery cover, battery cover hard to remove, buttons little bit hard to press for me, not enough HW buttons (AE Buttons Plus fixed it for me, but still...), battery life could be a bit better (for Power-User like me )

Without any problems. Did not feel any problems with GSM signal and I am able to catch neighbor's WiFi router on Battery Saving option through 3 walls .
It is also a good idea to have a look in manual where are the antennas, so you do not cover them!
Many thanks for the quick response

No. USB Mass Storage mode allows you to access the internal memory/storage card like an USB pen.
No, you can not. This functionality would be called "USB Master".
But if you connect Jade to PC, it asks you if you want "ActiveSync", "Disk drive" or "Share Internet".
When you select "Disk drive", it behaves like USB Drive and I was able to write to it with speed about 4MB/s. Not bad I would say.

I was looking at built-in GPS.
First, I switched off Assisted GPS using registry tweaks. I started logging every second and watched closely speed indicator in my Geocaching program during my bus trip to work.
First of all keep in mind that there is Static navigation enabled in the GPS chipset.
Looking at speed indicator, there is lag about 2 seconds which I would say is reasonable for car navigation.
This is the path bus went:
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/display/1228377499-13319-199.64.72.252.html
And here you can see all logged points:
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/display/data/1228377944-22341-199.64.72.252.html
You can see there, that it took GPS nearly whole cross-road to start logging again. Hopefully this log answers all your questions.
In my opinion, it should be fine with navigation software like TomTom. But you know, it is not exactly my cup of tea , I usually use Bluetooth GPS module which sends GPS data 5x faster and does not have Static Navigation .
You can have a look at GPS in action at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qJAgwNWS5s

Hi guys
we knows that we have to but our headset to run the Radio because it is working as antenna! but if we have a good signal we dont require headset can some one make it working without a headset?
How you come to the conclusion it will work without antenna?
Haha lol. You want the impossible. Maybe you could also find a developer to transform your mobile into an airplane our something like that.

take your home radio. cut the antenna. do you think you will get ANY reception? the error in your thought is that you obviously think that the headset cable is just to improve reception and that the phone's internal antenna is also for radio reception but you are wrong. it won't work!
the solution is an internet radio app
It works instead! I tried it with a single connector without any cable on it and it worked. Don't know though if you could bypass that problem by software programming or if you need to do some hardware modification

A question can be asked two ways, so always back your end up with facts.
As for the OP, its a legitimate question, one that needs some baksmali/smali edits to the radio app in order to make it think the head phone is connected.
Lol

i am noob in programming
On my old Sony Ericsson K800i, with a patch applied to remove the headset requirement, the radio would work absolutely fine when the headset connector was held in the vicinity of a large metal object (didn't have to be touching), so there is every chance this could work.

it will work without anntena, signal should be good enough. btw its basic physics, a antenna like the headphone will give u max 3 dBi , which is not that much (Google dipole anntena) compared to the signallevels u normally encounter.
