today add-ons - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Anyone know of any today addons that will LIST stuff to do individually instead of just saying something like 'X tasks' on the today screen. It's not life threatening but it would be kinda handy!
I've tried a couple of things but they seem to have problems with the XDA2 being a phone too - the signal strength icon vanishes or something similar.

I use QuickTasks by ScaryBear: http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_qt_overview.html
There are some freeware ones out there, but I prefer this one.

*The noob questions thread*

The more i play with my MDA Vario, the more i get used to it, but the more i realise i'm a complete noob. I have been playing with/building/programing computers for years, but heldhelds are totally new to me.
I have had a look around, and this place seems to be where the pro's hang out. So could you kind people excuse my noobishness and answer some of my painfully noob questions?
I will start with...
1) Why don't programs actually seem to close when i 'close' them. Such as when i close Opera, yet it pops up again and again. I understand i can go into setting>system>memory and close running programs, but thats a pain to do all the time. So what the deal here?
2) At the top of my Today screen i have 5 larger icons accross the top which i would like to edit/remove/add new etc. I can go into settings>today>items and [un]check stuff that runs down the screen, but i cab't add new ones and can't see any options for the 5 larger icons at the top. Without instaling some kind of plugin, how can i change this?
EDIT: Ok, i see that 5 icons are part of something called just 'T-Mobile'. Any ides's how to change it and removing the pointless internet link thats that same os the hard button at the top of the MDA?
3) Is there an easy way to switch between running progams (like ALT+TAB in WinXP)?
To answer question 1 and 3:
Windows Mobile only minimizes programs by default. You can only close them, using the memory settings.
There are several Task-Manager and/or Close-Applications to override this "problem".
Some examples:
SPBPlus (www.spbsoftwarehouse.com)
Wisbar (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com)
SmallMenu (http://tillanosoft.com)
tMan (http://pda.jasnapaka.com)
vbar (http://vieka.com)
MagicButton (http://www.trancreative.com)
...
..
.
Just slap in a new rom or the customized T-Mo rom that's in the forums...
What do you want all the bloat that T-Mo (and all the carriers) put in?

Multiple Today Screens

Ok, this is what i want.
I have my default today screen with all my plugins running. At the top(or side) must be tabs (somethings like spdpocketplus) to more than one today screen. Lets say TodayTab1 displays my System monitor and weather, TodayTab2 displays my RSS and Blogs and shedule and TodayTab3 displays my Mail Boxes and Sms's.
But spb pocket plus doesnt support this tipe of tabs or does it? Is it possible?

I use wisbar advance desktop that allows multiple desktops and speeds up the device by putting only one or two plugins on each desktop. Also allows text tabs to link you to each of the other desktops.

Look up JGUI.

Some days ago I was looking for a good today calendar plugin and got some answers from the forum, I'm still trying them but in a trial I found that Pocket Breeze (from SBSH) in it current version can actually do what you want.
This software allows to have TABS with diferent info in each one...calendar, task, notes, messages... and also, you can add your customs tabs including on it any today pluginn you have installed; that way yo can have a TAB with the weather info, or any other app you can view on the normal today screen; even the spb pocketplus you have can be view in one of the TABS if you want...
You can download a trial version of the software before buy it in order to see if that is what you are looking for...so far now I have not have any problem of performance using it..
Best regards;

Thanks Daniel! This is what i was looking for!! Works good.. Just one problem, this thing kinda slows down my phone allot.. i only have two screens set.. Dono if this is right?! Anyone willing to test on an HTC TyTn for me!?!? plz. just wana know if its slow as mine..
How quick is the actual switching?
Instant, near instant, roughly X seconds?
Thanks guys.
V
oh sorry.. from today1 to today2 about 7-10seconds. Backwords about 2seconds..
Maybe there is a regkey that can increase the memory use for this app or something to make it switch more instant like.. ??!!
That may depends what you used in today1 and today2. Mind listing the stuff you had in today1 and today2? 7-10 seconds are really slow. And, does it happen all the time while switching from today1 to today2 or does it have a cache thing that, once you did it, the next switching becomes faster.
Ok. Oh, there doesnt seem to be caching..
On today1 I have the following:
1) Date (Default one)
2) Calender (Default one)
3) Messaging (Default one)
4) IP Dashboard
5) Phone Dashboard
6) Resco Today Plugin
7) Device lock (Default one)
On today2 I have:
1) Wireless (That registry hack to display the connections status)
2) WeatherPanel ( I disabled it to test, but its still slow!)
3) Device Lock (Default one)
Well, can anyone else confirm that SK Today Commander slows down your TyTn when having 2 or more today screens?
Yes, I does seem to be slow in switching. I installed the trial version last night and only have 2 screens. I am using the buttons in the task bar and when activating a change I will see Help or contacts flash on the screen before it actually switches Today Screens. Not sure if I want to pay the money or not for the app.

Thanx @ samsonib for also testing.. Its a bummer, that app looks and works very nice, just the slowness thats the downside!
SkizZO, im downloading the app now to test! Thanx!
ok, i just installed JGUI MoreTodays! It also works, but its the same as the other one.. Its also damn slooowwww.. Dont think this device was made to handle more than one today screen.. Looks like there is no app out there that can do an instant switch to a second today screen..
I downloaded MoreTodays! and it seems to be a little faster than the Today Commander and I don't get the flashes of the help screens, etc. I guess I will play with it for the 5 free days before the trial ends before I go back to one crowded screen. Thanks.
Well I thought I had 5 days to use MoreTodays!, but this morning a message popped up saying that the trial had expired and I could only use 1 screen until I removed trial and reloaded the full version. Anyone else have this issue?

LOOK>FIND>READ that is the way to install a look alike Vista theme.
noob training
I posted a thread in the hermes section on how to do this. now all you have to do is find it!
I haven't reloaded mine since the newest rom, but I will soon. It's almost perfect. Curious Peezy if you notice yours not showing the correct signal strength? Mine will show signal when I have none and has yet to show the same value as the stock theme/skin.
I havent noticed it show a signal when there is actually not, but I would agree that it is probably not as accurate as we would like. I also noticed that at the top of your screen there are turqouis blocks (a couple pixels high). I have isolated this problem to the SPB today plugin. Im not sure if you noticed but it bugs me so much I no longer use spb until I find a fix. Another issue I have with the theme is the signal not showing connection type icon (3g, G, E, etc). I havent had time to search the wisbar forums for a solution yet. But if you know of a fix I might take the time to research it, if not no biggie.

I read the pixels across the top was SPB's battery indicator with the today plugin, not necessarily bug. It does match my battery strength. I don't notice it anymore.
That's the battery plugin.

Touch H.D. - A review from a W.M. Virgin

I was due an upgrade from Orange, after having used a n95 for the last year or so, which was a device I liked. Works straight out of the box as a phone, with the features you would expect a modern phone to have aready implemented in a user friendly manner. Also has the capability to be updated and personailse as you see fit - mine had orange o.s. ripped out within a day of arriving.
Knowing an upgrade was due I spent an afternoon on the net wondering what to go for. Seriously consider decamping to O2 for an iphone, mainly because of the data tariffs there, but had my eye turned by this new Touch H.D. gizmo. Now partly because a few of my mates already have iphones, and partly because I enjoy being contrary, and also because I hate the way "Apple" are trendy and Microsoft hated, the H.D. it was.
Haggled away with Orange and managed to get 1200mins, 500 texts, 0.5gig data for 45 quid month. So in went my order.
The HD arrived the next day. I excitedly opened the very sexy packaging (I have a very sad affection for gadget boxes and keep them for years - even after the device has packed up!), had a quick read of the quick start, plugged her in and off I went.
Nice looking skin, quick to where you want to go. Seems good.
But then things got sticky. I wanted to find out how to bluetooth contacts over to the H.D. Nothing in the quickstart nor the pdf. I know, I know, I could of stuck me old sim in and copied the contacts over, but this is a new toy and we like to play, right? After a couple of hours got an answer over the interweb about how to do this. Phew. Then did the sensible thing of copying these contacts to the sim for safety. Uh oh - the dreaded duplicate contact showing problem.
Then I decided to try the browser. As per another post I could not connect to wifi for an age, then it suddenly started working. Furthermore, I was getting a constant "xml parsing error" when trying to connect via Orange Internet. Had had the phone six hours now, and had only managed to get duplicate contacts on! Arrggghh, fustration of the nation.
Sent a text to a mate, only had I? No sending confirmation. What is going on? Oh, all messages--->sent. Mmm, hardly immediately user friendly.
I was getting tired, so set the alarm. How primitive thought I. More primitive than I realised when I was awoken and finally worked out that three button presses were required to get the alarm into snooze mode. Three! And only then if you had randomly pressed the alarm icon in the top bar in the hope it would do something - couldn't see this advice in any instructions anyway.
So by my second day was getting very dubious about this hardware, even allowing for the mandatory new device learning curve. Happily I stumbled across this place. Installed all the recommended softwares.
Klaxon - hey, my alarm now works like all the other alarms on all other phones.
Adavance Config - hey now I get an sms sent confirmation, and my phone is faster.
Backup -copied my contacts from the storage card, after running this programme, to my pc, deleted the sim contacts and hey presto! No more duplicate sims, and a safe back up.
I then played around with the advanced connection setting and the connection wizard and bang - my browser now works!!!
Suddenly I start to like this phone. Nay love it. It appeals to the very big geek inside of me. Its hard to use, you have to batter away at it to make it user friendly. It's more like a p.c. than a phone - ding dong! It is more like a p.c. than a phone.
And here in lies a problem I believe for the majority of users who will gets this phone and will be flummoxed by it and bin it back to Orange.
It needs to be set up as a phone first if Orange are flogging it as a phone, and not a p.d.a. as they do Blackberry. Little things, like a decent alarm clock, sms confirmation, instructions for contacts, turn off sim contacts option. A much better wlan interface - akin to the N95 would help. On that device selecting the browser gives you a pop up which gives you the option of orange internet, or if one is available a wlan. A simple click on the wlan you want and you're in. All very easy, and in contrast to having to open up communication, wireless lan, wlan, advanced, to swap to a different wlan.
None of these things would take too much effort to implement, and would make the Touch HD excellent for a beginner out of the box.
Your average user though will find these irritatations unforgiveable in some circumstances, and if the rumours of high returns to Orange are right, I bet the above bug bears have a large part to play in this.
However, once the phone is personalised, and once it is accepted as a computer, then I think it is fantastic. It's gorgeous to look at and hold, there's lots of nice little features- cover flow in favourite contacts is good eye candy for example.
And now I realise Ive got another piece of Redmond in my pocket, I'm even happier. This phone is a geeks dream - the "chic of tweak" perhaps? After four days with it I love it. I'm going to love it even more in months to come when some clever peeps get Android running on it, or when WM6.5/7 comes out.
A fantastic computer that does phone calls, as well. But out of the box, not a fantastic phone.
Just my 2p's worth.
Interesting to read your experience. I'll keep some of those things in mind when I get my phone next week. Do you have links to the software you added from here? (like Klaxon, Advanced Config, Backup...) I know I can search the forum, but I thought maybe you had them handy to post.

Remember also when you get your phone to add "file manager" to your list of programmes. The software is already on the phone, and you need it to navigate to your storage card to run new programmes.
Enjoy!

excellent review that provides a good insight for winmo newbies, and I sure recognize my first experience in this, winmo is an acquiered taste and it gets addictive with time because yes, this phone really is an ultraportable PC with a phone slapped onto it. I'm gonna send this to some people I know still sitting on the fence

[TF3D]Making the people tab like the programs tab, possible?

Hi,
Contrary to a lot of users I am very happy with Tf3D and the functionality it delivers. One aspect bugs me though, and could be so much better; the people tab. Currently I have to scroll through a long list to get to the person I want to contact. It would be so much easier if the people tab was arranged like the programs tab, with a nice grid.
Now, I don't have any WM/TF3D development experience whatsoever, so I am wondering if this is even remotely possible. It would really make TF3D so much better imho.
I second that. I had manila2d installed on the old Mogul - Would be great to have the people tab like that on the TP & diamond
anyone?
*bumping the thread*
its totally stupid...I disabled the contacts page, because its more work to find someone there, then going to a contacts manager (Phonex)
If someone could do this..it would be great!
I just got an idea - is there no command line, mortscript or something that could call a number? If that would be possible, we could use the programs tab...
bump.
I'd also be happy with a decent today plugin to call or text my favorites on my SecondToday Screen. The commercial ones (few as they are) sadly have very little customization - the pictures are way too tiny and too close together.
contact listing tab
bumpies//
I just want my people tab to BE the general contact list; any way to have that?
Same goes for the Email and SMS tabs - I want them to BE their respective inboxes. If there are more than one account for email configured, it should show the account picker there instead. How hard could this possibly be?
However, I have no programmatic experience, but PLENTY of user-testing experience.
Ideas as to how/where to look for these modifications?
I am on a stock Sprint rom (I think its 1.03 something) and the phone is still pretty much brand new (less than a month since delivery). I have only modified a few things so far, paying close attention to backup along the way with SPB Backup (I'm not entirely new to WM6.1, but this is my first Touch screen phone/PPC).
