Total Call duration (incoming/outgoing) reset? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

How do I reset the call timers of incoming and outgoing under Settings -> System -> Device Information -> Call Duration
There is simply no option for me to reset it.

I think you jave to use the XDA Manipulator...
HTH
Stefan

If i will to use the XDA Manipulator, I will need to get a serial cable just for the sake of resetting the timer.
Is there other alternative beside using the XDA Manipulator? All I want is to keep track of my mthly incoming/outgoing call time.

http://www.syberpunk.com/images/oolong/linked/paper.jpg
on the top of my head
i would say that it's in the registry
could be wrong though

re
have a look here http://www.tekguru.co.uk/phpBB2/index.php?article=494
it's not exactly what you were looking for no doubt and to be honest I ahve not tried it yet, but the principle is sound.
Cheers, Shire

ARGH! I'm completely sick and tired of meddling with all options given to me to monitor the call duration.
I have decided to get myself a serial sync cable with the XDA Manipulator just for the sake of monitoring my total call duration.
Just before I did that, I have a few questions.
1) What kind of serial sync cable must I get? Can the XDA serial cable works?
2) Do I need to hard reset my XDA II whenever I access the XDA Manipulator window? Is it that all I need to do is sync the PDA with the serial cable connected to my PC just like how the USB works?
Thanks

Don´t know how (and if) the xda manipulator works with the XDA II.
At the old xda devices entering the bootloader performs a hard reset. so, all data will be lost.
Maybe the manipulator isn´t the right choice for you. (I don´t know how often you will reset the timers...)
Using serial cable is the same like using usb cable. Main difference ist, that the battery won´t be charged with the serial.
Regards
Stefan

I will have to reset the call duration every 1st day of the month. I wouldn't want to hard reset mthly just for the sake of the call duration.
Why can't O2 have an option for us, consumer to reset the damn thing!!!

Pardon me for pointing out the obvious but why don't you just hit the big reset button on the screen when you're looking at the Call Duration.
From the phone screen...Call History.....Tools......Call Timers.......RESET!
Mine works fine.

is there additional software which i can install? My HTC touch does not have the Call Timer plug in. Surprisingly.

New XDAIIi user a little disheartened

Hi, this is my first post to these forums, although I did spend a couple of hours browsing after finding them last night.
Having played with my wife's month old Mio168/TomTom5 and loved it, I decided that when my CPW/o2 contract was up I'd go for a pda/phone rather than the SE K750i I had previously been planning on.
I did just a little research and went for the XDAIIi over the MDAIII (don't like T-Mobile's pricing!) and XDAIIs (no wi-fi, slower and unnecessary keyboard).
I initially thought I had a great unit but things haven't been as smooth as I expected.
http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk supplied me with a Holux combined GPS receiver/cradle, Kingston 512MB SD card and screen protector at very reasonable prices and with swift delivery.
First thing I noticed was that whenever the phone utility was brought on-screen, it showed me that my last caller was the very first person I had phoned on it. After any call, the same info would pop back to the display, too.
Another little thing that surprised me was the SIM code entry. I have set an 8 digit code. When I enter the first number it appears on the display as an asterisk but when I hit the second, the first two numbers appear (the asterisk changes to the digit). Is this normal or a quirk of having '08' as the first two digits of my code?
TomTom5 installed fine but kept randomly freezing (whenever a call or txt msg came in it was certain to happen) so I contacted o2 Customer Support who told me to take it back to be checked out.
Three days after installing the card (and before I had taken the unit for its o2 'inspection') the SD card suddenly 'disappeared'. Actually, it's shot; it isn't recognised by my XDAIIi, my work supervisor's XDAIIi, my wife's Mio168 or my computer's USB card reader. I researched this a little and found it a fairly common occurence but the only recommendation seems to be to format it. HELLO? How does one format something that no equipment recognises? Fools!
Actually, while googling the SD card problem I found people recommending the removal of o2 Active to cure TomTom lockups. o2 Tech-Supp were very helpful with this - instructing me how to hard reset and install 'corporate' using the 0506 password. This appears to have cured almost all TomTom problems although I need more than the old 128MB MM card I currently have for storage!
This also fixed the 'last call' bug I'd been experiencing.
Having found this marvellous forum, I set about finding info for the XDAIIi and promptly discovered that the wikki bears little specifically for it. I would update it but don't know enough yet!
I did read a post last night that pointed out to a user that the cradle charges the battery from just the USB port, and not requiring the AC supply so I decided to check it out. Sure enough, the battery is shown as 'charging' but after leaving it overnight, I find that the charge has actually dropped to 87% (still says 'charging', too) from the 95% I left it on.
Perhaps I have a faulty cradle.
It also seems a little odd to me that I can use mp3s for ringtones but can only use wav files for the alarm!
Is there a way to stop the wi-fi 'do you want to connect' popup appearing when TomTom is running other than disabling wi-fi before running it? It's a right pain having TT freeze until I get rid ot the popup.
One other little thing - anyone know how I can ensure that GPRS isn't going to be used for web surfing? I don't want it to be activated accidentally and certainly don't want to go surfing on it for an hour thinking I'm using wi-fi!
Don't get me wrong - overall I'm still happy with the XDAIIi (look -> ) but there's just a few doubts as to whether I went the right way creeping in.
Hi there, im pretty much a "new" user of the XDA 2i aswell but have learnt alot from using this forum.
I have almost the same setup as you now as far as the "corporate" install, TomTom5 etc etc .... but i have updated the ROM on mine to the latest Imate version, which you can find in one of these forums , its called PDA 2K ROM streight from I-MATE or something along them lines.
I would recommend that you update also as it fixed a few problems was having with lockups, but make sure to do alot of research before you attempt it cos you dont want to knacker it up
Anyway .... my cradle charges fine just using the USB (no AC adapter)
Passord thing .... this has came up before , it for some reason displays the digits when the numbers 08 are first , i seem to remember it being something to do with emergancy calling features, although i didnt think that they started with "08" but there ya go
GPRS ... will only activate when you cannot get a Wireless signal, the hirachy is WiFi then GPRS, but to be on the safe side i removed all the setting configurations for the GPRS so it can never connect, i never use it anyway.
Im not sure about the "Do you want to connect" popup you get when running TomTom as it doesnt happen to me , perhaps you have wireless enabled all the time, id tun it off to save your batteries anyway.
well .... i think ive covered a few of the things your asking as good as i can, best of luck with it
Thanks for the reply, Danny.
I haven't had any TomTom problems since 'going corporate' so I'll wait and see how it goes before trying another ROM - taking warranty into consideration too.
Mind you, I haven't received any calls or texts while running TT either so all may not be as it seems.
Hmm. I'm plugged into a 4-port USB hub that came with an external power supply I don't use, so I wonder if that makes a difference. I'll have to pull out the base unit and plug the cradle in there to check charging on that.
I've double checked that I have no settings for GPRS so unless o2 'push' them to me I should be OK.
Yes, I do have wi-fi on all the time and the battery still lasts all the work day with a little usage when time permits. My cradle/GPS receiver charges the pda when it's in there on the way to/from work, so I don't really have to worry about that.
I'd just like to not be bothered by the connection dialogue box rather than have to turn off wi-fi for navigation purposes... have you seen how many networks are open out there? Not just the city centre ones, there are loads of not-very-secure company and household networks that can be connected to and utilised. Free broadband internet - almost makes you want to get a laptop!
the computer to which the cradle is connected via USB must be turned ON, or else there will be no current passing through the cable. Thus, no charging the PDA. The Ipods have the same "handycap". You can always use the AC power adapter...

Quite true, but my charging test was performed while the computer was on and defragmenting my 5 partitions.
Actually, my Soltek motherboard has 'hot' USB ports at the rear that still supply a little 'juice' when the power is off - my USB hub, BT dongle and Intellimouse 4 stay alight when the main machine is off, although I've not bothered to check exactly how much voltage is supplied.

USB Synching WITHOUT Charging, Is it possible???

Hi,
i've googled around but haven't been able to solve this problem: every time i connect my magician to the usb port in my PC, it starts synching and charging at the same time. I know this is correct behaviour since USB ports are able to supply power to connected devices.
Anyway, i'd like to know if there's the possibility to avoid charging from the USB port (while retaining, of course, synching capability).
I need this hack 'cos i often connect my magician to the pc only for the time needed to sync my contacts/appointments (just a few seconds/minutes) or to install some small programs and i fear that recharging the battery for so a short time and 5-10 times a day may reduce its capacity or even destroy it.
I'd like to sync my magician without recharging its battery, do you thing it is possible? Is there a registry hack (either in ppc or in winxp) to disable USB power supplying? Do i need to manually hack my USB cable by cutting out the red and white power wires?
Thanks for your help,
bye bye,
Isidoro
You really have nothing to worry about. Lithium rechargeable batteries do not mind having small frequent top ups.
Ni-Cads on the other hand, yes they would be ruined.
Your phone uses a Lithium battery so as I said, no need to worry.
If you really wanted to, you could build a custom USB cable which does not carry the power, by omitting the GND and +5V pins (the first and the last pin of the usb connector).
This is not really needed, because modern batteries don't get damaged by multiple recharges...

I tried it but it didn't work: the phone doesn't charge, ok, but it doesn't' sync too!!! Winxp doesn't see it.
Maybe i should keep ground wire?!? Mah!

I know, i know, but i would definitely feel more safe if i could sync without charge.
Anyway, thank u all,
Isidoro
Use bluettoth to sync the device with pc, your problem will be solved.
All 4 wires are required for usb to work.
Removing any of them will prevent USB operating.
As stated, it doesnt matter about the top up charging, dont worry.
Disable charging
Disable USB charging
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
and change the
EnableUsbCharging to '0'
then
soft reset
I'd like to try this on my Ameo. How do I use the REG files contained in the ZIP file? I am using the Ameo to connect my laptop to the Internet. It works great over a USB cable but I cannot get it to work with Bluetooth. I am concerned about constant short recharges. Is there a special folder to put the REG files into? How do I make the Ameo read the values before doing a soft reset?
Thanks
Bob
Hi
I'd like to try your solution with editing registry on my T Mobile Ameo. Could you tell me wwhat I need to do with the REG files. Is there a special folder to put them in? How do I invoke the setting before doing a soft reste ?
Thanks
Bob
@pedjajovicevic : my magician does not have this registry key
I searched for that key you wrote,
but this key doesn't exist on my (german) magician.
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
Under BuiltIn there are many subkeys, but no usbfndrv, i searched the complete Builtin key but no key you wrote.
Can you tell me, where I maybe can create this key. Would it work ???
OK, i will try, but i don't know when. Two childs hold me away from my notebook
Are those registry files executed from the phone or the PC?
on your device.
but it won't work - there are no ways disable usb chargin in Magician via regsitry.

Problems with Serial Cable and T-Mobile MDA

Hi, wonder if you can help..
I got my MDA into bootloader mode by pressing power + centre button + reset.
It comes up with serial on the screen and a version number 1.6
My serial cable i bought is meant for an xda or xda II which i also have, but the phones are practically identical, the MDA is a PH10A
The xda is a PH10C
when trying to detect the serial connection which is on COM 1 (not USB) nothing happens, ive also tried the XDA Manipulator program from this forum and that also will not work.
I want to upgrade my software but am stuck.
I do not know if the Serial connections are different for these 2 phones, or if i have missed something.
Is there any other programs i can use to access my MDA? or can anyone help me with this draining problem.... ????

activesync doesnt work..but charging.. IM BEGGING FOR HELP

Hi, my activesync doesn't work, but it is charging...
i tried other USBs and i tried different PCs and same thing happens..
tried to take off the advanced network functionality...
Does anyone have a solution to that? please please help me im begging
Thanks alot in advanced!
anyone???? pleasee??????
go to active sync on the Hermes and delete the old profile. This may work...
Cheers...
tried.. doesnt work.. plus it didnt even work the past couple of roms that i had... i think since i upgraded it from wm6 to wm6.1 i started getting this issue..
any solution????
if trying to connect it to another computer dont work
i would suspect a faulty connector
so how is it possible that its charging??
To charge, all it needs is for the pins carrying voltage to get a connection. (All USB has a 5v current at 500mA, it just uses that to charge).
It could be that one of the data pins used by USB solely for transferring data are damaged or broken (or the connector is broken internally). This is almost impossible to diagnose without the correct tools, so I'm guessing here.
However, my Hermes' USB port has started to 'act up' - it still charges fine, but you have to have the USB cable at juuuust the right angle and you can't move it or touch it at all, otherwise the USB connection disconnects. I suspect either oxidisation on the terminals or a dodgy USB connector - but as long as it charges alright, I can live with that!
you could try cleaning the contacts with a cotton bud and some isopropyl alcohol (surgical spirits - NOT METHO). If there is any buildup on your contacts this will fix it.
Cheers....
Mine has done this many times before, the bloody pc rejects the usb device as unknown. [email protected] frustrating, I go in and delete all stored data about the phone and same on the PC in Active sync, some times works. Try different cables, sounds weird but some work well some are no good, dunn'o why, just does. I would perform a Hard Reset, I have done this once and it fixed it, blows away all your stuff (which should be on your 2Gb min mem card anyway). Good luck, sounds like a Hard Reset is where your headed.
is it possible that its not working since i switched to WM6.1? cuz i dont usually charge my phone through the pc and i just relized it a month ago... so if i switch back to wm6 do you think it would work??
Try this
Try and going to ur Start Menu, and then into Settings,go into the last tab "Connections", now go into the little icon titled USB to PC,and make sure the little box is UNCHECKED...well now that should do the trick

if you would read the first post... where i actually asked the question u would see that i tried that already
but tnx for trying
my 8525 does this from time to time as well, while I've never traced down the exact problem, a soft-reset almost always fixes it (I'm not saying you haven't soft-reset, it's just how I fix mine).
It likely has something to do with memory, as it usually happens after I've been using a lot of features (windows live search, outlook, etc.) and haven't reset in several days.
good luck....it is frustrating!
u did not described what it actualy does if you connect it to the pc and what rom are u using
the common problems with wm6.1
uncheck the advanced usb disconnect from pc restart pc
go to active sync on ppc seting - connection uncheck box (allways) check box open `usb close `usb ok reconnect ppc
the wording might be different cause im using right now diff. language

Hi all I'm new here. My phone "O2 XDA Orbit" behaving strangely. Suddenly the sound disappeared and I can not hear phone calls directly into the phone, and any other person hears me not(microphone off), and not just one click sound on the screen. If I restart the phone with USB cable inserted into the phone and computer (on), then the sound occurs again(but not in original style, sound occur in to the back speaker not in front ), and phone function almost normally with microphone (on)>>> until the next reboot when sound disappear again and microphone is off. I mention that;.... connection the phone to the computer can not be achieved in any of this cases. The error code (USB connection) connection on my computer is {Code 10(One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it)} who can not recognize the new hardware. In your opinion of specialists in this field what would be done? I think something happens to the ROM which gives errors of hardware power. The sound occurs when I insert into the phone power charger connector and disappears when the power supply plug out ... Please if you can help me with some guidance what I have to do one upgrade of ROM or something? Specification of the phone is:

have you got activesync or windows mobile device centre installed on the pc?
if yes..
i suggest you buy a new usb cable.
i have this problem with a couple of cables.
"USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED"
but when i change to a differant cable, everything is ok.
flashing via micro sd - upgrading windows.
have you done uspl 1.11.cmon?
Thanks for your attention Raving in the first place ...! Data cable has no damage that I checked the same cable with my photo camera and it works normally with PC and I have two more data cables and the problem is the same. It seems weird that the phone do some work once, ...once not. It starts when he wants the sound, and can not find any explanation ... In contrast with the USB connection can not establish anything, something happens to the sound module and USB ...PC see's something, but it's not sure what it is, and says he can not establish connection with the new hardware and it gives me error "CODE 10". in Universal Serial Bus Controller and the Active Sync is instaled on my PC but he don't say a word about this connection...I don't know on what to do...! I must mention that this oddity occurred only three days go and without them I do something wrong ... He grabbed him crazy after a normal operation for a year and a half, because we had no problems with it until now ... I used as a GPS and the phone and I was really pleased with him. By the way, what they mean uspl 1.11.cmon? All data of my phone are in the first post. The phone it was once unlocked by someone else, and now I can use any SIM card from any GSM provider..............I forgot to say that I've rebooted 2 times in general mode and now works but without USB connection sound when he wants it or not................But I think she has lost some registry ...!!!
click 1.11.cmon in my signature.
this will divert you to a tutorial thread.
when you can connect your device to your pc successfully, you should do the uspl 1.11.cmon but not for now. do not try and flash a rom yet either, you will break your device. (thats what uspl 1.11.cmon is for)
id like you to just try the "hard reset".
back up all your data first.
bookmark the page as ill be updating it regularly.
personaly i think its your usb cable, eg:
one of my cables works with a micro sd reader but not my for my device, i understand your cable worked but now does not.. however thats what happened to me.
Sound engages when he wants and where he wants. If I restart the phone, sound disappears and microphone stop; and I can not talking on the phone. Enter data cable from PC to phone, and give the phone restart. Once the phone is starts, sound appear but only in back. When talking on the phone sound very loud and sounds of the touchscreen controls can not disconnect the rear speaker who remains engaged and does not want to disengage it from the normal operating mode. Another job here would be that when inserted in the charger cable, the sound is right: each speaker and microphone or operational. If I remove the plug (charger) of phone then the phone function normally just like before, but without USB connection. If I plug "USB cable data" on the phone, to the desktop I see message "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does Not Recognize it. USB Device not recognized." If I unplug USB cable from phone the sound disappears, and what I have to do is to start over again.......!!!!!!!!!
I tested all data cables, and are ok. The problem is hard. The hardware has a technical failure which somehow blocks the data on USB. Battery power consumption is higher and the battery is discharged rather quickly than it was before the cage. At night when I charge the battery full, morning at 10:00 is only 30/40% of capacity. But what is even stranger is that: when I connect phone to PC, in device manager shows me the new hardware (Mobile Device) but after a few seconds there appear a connection error code (CODE 10) that is the hardware can not start. Active sync has not started when the fault occurred..... In your opinion what should be done in this case? ... Should contact a service or ... in any way I can test something before others get the screwdriver into my phone?
