thanx

Sorry to hear about this
Iv'e tried Displex once and it didn't work for me. It did not removed scratch and destryed antiglare surface on my ipAQ 1940. Do a search in www.pocketpcpassion.com or www.brighthand.com in forms. This probles has been around since day one of PDA, so probably someone have a solution.

See if you can find a store that sells a CD ROM repair kit thats what I use to remove unwanted scratches, I got mine at Radio Shack.
BTW its not going to be a one time use type of repair, its done over a period of time unless you plan on spending a few hours of polishing at once.
HTH

my mda2 came with a anti scratsch sticker
did not apply it though

The best solution is to use these protectors. They are very clean and not adhesive.
www.pdascreenprotectors.com
The ont for iPAQ 19xx series work just fine with XDA 2. That's what I am using.

thanx for the feedback...a funny little thing i read while looking for a solution using Google forum search, i came across a forum post with a guy with same problem...he was advised to "put a drop of ajax on the screen, and use a brillo pad"...the guy must have obviously done it because he replied about how his screen was even worse!!!!! lol

That reminds me of a letter to Heloise (like Dear Abby, but for household fixes) asking for how to get chewing gum out of a sweater or something without damaging it. Heloise said to put it in the freezer for several hours, then hit with a hammer. A few weeks later, she wrote back complaining that it did not work and to make matters worse, now she had dents in the side of her freezer.

Installation advise

I see that a lot of ppl have asked questions on which screen protectors are best, and why they are good, e.g "If fitted correctly" What are your experiences on correct fitment, do you have a special method, i know there a pain, as i have tried and cant get it right, so advise please would be apprieciated.
Hi darcol,
don't know if all protectors are the same, but I apply a drop of window cleaner on the screen (note that drop is meant literally, as you don't want to drown your device).
Then carefully use your finger to disperse the liquid.
Now you can apply the protector and arrange it smoothly on the screen (it will slide on the screen).
After a few minutes everything has dried and the protector is fixed.
Voila, perfectly fittet screenprotector
...
please be advised, that i'm not responsible if you drown your little toy
it differ from protector to protector if any fluit is needed
mine dident need it and when i bought it, it came with full install instructions
about which is best then i think most people havent really tested that many types of protectors at least i havent

it isn't needed per se, but i found it very helpful to slide it on the screen before it's really fix.

Same with me, just tried the original one and a low cost one from eBay, which works fine for me.

dissassemble the wizard

I want to dissassemble my wizard for painting. (yes i really do). Has anyone taken it apart yet, or will I be the first?
people have taken it apart.. where's that thread, hmmm...
Ah, yes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31755
http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=6298030&postcount=27
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=377474
Not too much info, but there you go. If you do take yours apart, take lots of pictures - you'll be an instant hero
Most paints will wear off very quickly and maybe make it look a bit unsightly, do you have a particular paint in mind?
And yes - please take many pics and post back with details of the procedure.
Not necessarily...
If you use a lacquer based paint - it will "etch" itself into the plastic. IF you use enamel - yes, it will wear off quickly and most likely be "unsightly".
Make sure you steel wool it first to rough it up and sand between coats. When you are satisfied with the look - sand once again with very fine paper - like 600 grit or finer - then - spray with a couple of coats of clear. It will look great!
I use to run a guitar shop - building repairing and refinishing. This will take some time - but it will look great.
Shep
Sounds good.
Will be interested to see the results when fp has finished it.
Interested too
NO NO NO NO
I took my JAM apart to paint it, and it was never the same again. I HIGHLY recommend against this, you'll regret it.
Echilon, sorry to hear that mate...
i fink the standard silver face looks decent...(MDA)
Thing is... how did you take it apart? I mean without injuring the plastics.

It didn't fit back together properly and the battery cover used to hang half off. Aswell as that, the paint chipped eventually, but thankfully it got lost in the post and I got my money back from the post office

Any experiance most welcome, I've built a mac tibook from 9 different donors and I am pretty good with my torx set, the only thing i hate is glue....

did you do anything special or cram something to hold the plastic back in place?
I'm just getting ready to tear it apart just to fix this issue and any help would be greatly appreciated.
-Mc
I've repaired about 80 remote controls, and I highly suspect that most of the "never the same again" is related to wrangled plastic when trying to undo the 'click' system. If you have a ( Edit: http://www.noordhollandinbouw.nl/images/bankschroef.jpg ) and a very thin screw driver, these are pretty easy to open up without any wrangling/cracking. The other issue is paint getting inbetween seams - the device has to fit back together, so you need to keep the paint clear of those %)
Other than that, I really see no reason why it wouldn't be perfectly fitting back together with the only difference being the paintjob.
Maybe one of the two guys who mentioned this can give exact details?
Hi guys,
Actually when I said (it will never the same again) I did not mean it is impossible mission, but it need a high caution and steady hand (No glued parts) ,don’t try to open it hardly (it might break) with all that a scratch here or there will happened ,but still if any of you opened it safely and get it painted then everything will be fine.
About the stylus, yes I put 2 pieces of plastic between the cover and the stylus black encasement.
Thanks
Balo, can you explain how you unclipped the plastic cover. Is there a specific side to start on? How did you lever the part apart - finger nails or small screw driver? As much detail please as I want fix my stylus.
Was it hard to take of the faceplate? I need a new faceplate put on my 8125. Can you advise? Thanks!
so no pictures yet of the paintjob?

Chrome scratch !!

This is what happened.....i was with my girlfriend, she took a pic of us, but with her long nails she scratched the chrome between the camera button and the black-glass like cover ....is there a way to cover it up o fix it ?!?!
If not is it easy to change it with a new one...h\or how much will iot cost me if i gave it SE ??
thnxxx in advance for ur help everybody
I had a scratch also but I don't know why !... looks like the paint can be removed easily without even a nail
you can use a marker if your X1 is black as a temp solution and you can also try the scratch proof body protector from ZAGG ... didn't try it but looks helpful
Id be bummed too but nothings going to last forever. its just hard getting over that first scratch/damage, after that... it will be just another phone.
that should be a warranty issue up to a certain degree.
vodafone @ least exchanges those ugly phones
yeah so true....this scratch is killing me .... i can't help myself, keep looking at it....i treated my experia as a son but nth ....but u are right should get over it... regarding the warranty thing i bougth my sex1 from abroad, here in Egypt the mobile is not even out yet, so no warranty and SE my only chance was to fix that myself .... if smn managed to fix\treat a bad scratch plz tell me....thnx for the support

Im a truck mechanic, and i would love to look after my xperia its the first phone ive ever had on an 18 month contract so really dont want to damage it. But in my line of work there is no way it is going to stay scratch free or even dent free. and im far too lazy to change sip card back into my w960i every day.. i need a really good case. wonder if you get those snap on plastic ones for it. if not it will get an unrepairable warranty fault every so ofte

As an hopeless aestethic, I sure understand your pain. What really surprised me was that it could scratch that easily - to me it seems pretty solid.
Bad news is that the only way of fixing that is replacing the case - which is not cheap, you can ask your local SE how much would they charge for this, though you might wanna also check if someone like a small phone-trader or something similar won't do it for less - they usually provide the same type of warrantry and have just the same cases, though from my experience I can tell you that they tend to charge less.
As i said before the phone isn't even out yet here so SE most probably doesn't even have the spare parts necessary.....and wow a full case replacement only for the chrome part ....i thought that could be changed separately....
seeing this will be pretty costly i think i'll wait till the sex1 get a little badder before giving to SE .....praying that for that time the phone will be released
You should not be able to scratch the paint or chrome off with fingernails. That has got to be a manufacturing fault. Call support and have them fix it for you.

Fingernail is very strong, u know.
And yes, in many cases fingernail can scratch paint or chrome off.
event car paint with coating can be scratch by fingernail.

Even if it was a manufacturing fault, calling the support won't solve the problem, since SE there hasn't launched X1 yet, so it's not on warrantry (at least a one that would be viable in that country) and they just can't help here (at least not for free).

That's true, especially when a girl paints it with some high-tech liquid that's supposed to make it even stronger - then you can just pray that she's not gonna take your phone for a lil' photoshoot .
i've gotten a small dent on the chrome-list on my xperia :/
I have taken care of the device as my son.
Should I talk to SE? or should I just forget about the dent?
I cant understand how it happend :S
forget it. still, even you fixed that dent, time will come your phone will have dents again no matter how careful you are. if its just the batt cover, wait til its full of scratches then replace it when you get a chance to buy one.

Unfortunately that kind of damage (or in fact any kind of physical damage) is extremely rarely covered by warrantries and such, so as bad as it sounds - you have to cover all the expenses if you want the dents, scratches, cracks to disappear.
So, this phone is not for females with long nails !
keep the nice ladies on distance when using your pimp sex1 !

Any method that will work!!!??

Hi All,
Sorry if this is already on the forum but I cant seem to find a method that works right.. I stuck my phone in my girlfriends handbag whilst on holiday and on the beach, sand got into her bag and scratched the hell out of it, including the touch-screen. I have bought Displex but even that does not work well on the outside rim let alone the touch screen.
Is there any possilble way to remove these scratches??
Anyone got any suggestions..
Thank you

Lol very good, I could go down that route, unfortunatley no I did not have the protector on ... If I did apply the screen protector.. would it fade out the scratches if not the major ones, perhaps the minor ones.
Ill try that

Thanks for the Message, might sound silly to you but how much are we roughly talking for a screen and perhaps the casing as the front has a number of scratches too.
I have not had time to whizz through this website as mostly I check it through work so apologies if there is a thread on this already.

It can help after wards sometimes I had TYTN2 before with a similar problem I applied the protector after it was scratched and I was pretty happy with the results I could only see scratches when I really looked for them in light so its worth a shot before replacing anything cheaper too
Still think my first idea is better
Fact of life these things get damaged sooner or later. I would just accept the fact that it's damaged as long as it works. You will probably move onto the next device in a few months!

oh GOD i can't wait.....

....my HD2 arriving tomorrow
so, should i buy some:
screen protectors
leather pouch
anything else useful for it out there?
honestly, screen protector is a waste of money..it's glass.
Insurance.

1-you dont need a screen protector for the HD2
the screen is s scratch resistance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcEaehKWr2s
there is other videos than this just search youtube
2-if you like
The screen may be glass, scratch-resistant glass too but the clue is in the name. Scratch-resistant, it's not scratch proof.
I suggest getting some screen protectors but that's just me. What harm can it do? I use a Vikuiti.
I also suggest getting a rubber case and a car holder if you need one. Check out netimes for this stuff.
another phone to send text messages with...
I suggest you buy somthing like InvisibleSHIELD, as my friend pointed out the screen is not scratch proof, also you may want to keep in mind protection of the casing!
Ignore the comments that you don't need a screen protector.
If you want a screen protector then buy one (or a few so you've got spares). There ARE people on here that have scratched their screen, in their pockets, with keys and/or change, so it can happen. It's just quite rare, hence the incorrect comments above.
Mine came with a leather pouch - the official one - and it's great. It was tight as anything when I first used it, but after a couple of days it had loosened up to perfection. It still needs to be pushed out - it won't fall - but it doesn't take a lot to get it out.
If yours doesn't come with one (some don't, unfortunately), there's plenty to choose from. Check the accessories forum where there's ongoing threads with plenty of choices.
Finally, as pointed out by BLAST3RR, GET INSURANCE!!! lol
The screen is definitely not scratch proof, I have some scuff scratches on the top right of my device from my pocket.

I second the invisibleSHIELD (or similar) solution, covers every panel, wraps around the edges and corners, feels nice to the touch.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was picked at and ripped off, but I recon a little slightly soapy moisture will free it. It sticks using surface interaction rather than by anything glue like, so its just a case of being gentle and adding a lubricant.

I just ordered some screen protectors and a packet of sock cases for the HD2 (my missus can have the pink one! )
I just rang T-Mobile and added their phone insurance on to my account so im covered the moment i recieve it today!
By the way, i know people have been banging on about the cost of the HD2 as a t-mobile (uk) upgrade, but, i got mine for free, still on 18 month and did not have to change my tarriff (£35 flext 35). RESULT

First of all.You are gonna have a lot of phone with that fun, eeehhhh sorry I meant fun with that phone ;-)
good choice about insurance and screen protectors. About the case/pouch I would still wait and try to get by with the the one delieverd with the device because a new extended battery is announced to be available next month at some point. Once this is out, there will be new pouches/cases due to the extra size. Of course just if you want to keep the option of upgrading the battery ....
Cheers,
LEE
