Chrome scratch !! - XPERIA X1 General

This is what happened.....i was with my girlfriend, she took a pic of us, but with her long nails she scratched the chrome between the camera button and the black-glass like cover ....is there a way to cover it up o fix it ?!?!
If not is it easy to change it with a new one...h\or how much will iot cost me if i gave it SE ??
thnxxx in advance for ur help everybody

I had a scratch also but I don't know why !... looks like the paint can be removed easily without even a nail
you can use a marker if your X1 is black as a temp solution and you can also try the scratch proof body protector from ZAGG ... didn't try it but looks helpful

Id be bummed too but nothings going to last forever. its just hard getting over that first scratch/damage, after that... it will be just another phone.

that should be a warranty issue up to a certain degree.
vodafone @ least exchanges those ugly phones

yeah so true....this scratch is killing me .... i can't help myself, keep looking at it....i treated my experia as a son but nth ....but u are right should get over it... regarding the warranty thing i bougth my sex1 from abroad, here in Egypt the mobile is not even out yet, so no warranty and SE my only chance was to fix that myself .... if smn managed to fix\treat a bad scratch plz tell me....thnx for the support

Im a truck mechanic, and i would love to look after my xperia its the first phone ive ever had on an 18 month contract so really dont want to damage it. But in my line of work there is no way it is going to stay scratch free or even dent free. and im far too lazy to change sip card back into my w960i every day.. i need a really good case. wonder if you get those snap on plastic ones for it. if not it will get an unrepairable warranty fault every so ofte

As an hopeless aestethic, I sure understand your pain. What really surprised me was that it could scratch that easily - to me it seems pretty solid.
Bad news is that the only way of fixing that is replacing the case - which is not cheap, you can ask your local SE how much would they charge for this, though you might wanna also check if someone like a small phone-trader or something similar won't do it for less - they usually provide the same type of warrantry and have just the same cases, though from my experience I can tell you that they tend to charge less.

As i said before the phone isn't even out yet here so SE most probably doesn't even have the spare parts necessary.....and wow a full case replacement only for the chrome part ....i thought that could be changed separately....
seeing this will be pretty costly i think i'll wait till the sex1 get a little badder before giving to SE .....praying that for that time the phone will be released

You should not be able to scratch the paint or chrome off with fingernails. That has got to be a manufacturing fault. Call support and have them fix it for you.

Fingernail is very strong, u know.
And yes, in many cases fingernail can scratch paint or chrome off.
event car paint with coating can be scratch by fingernail.

Even if it was a manufacturing fault, calling the support won't solve the problem, since SE there hasn't launched X1 yet, so it's not on warrantry (at least a one that would be viable in that country) and they just can't help here (at least not for free).

That's true, especially when a girl paints it with some high-tech liquid that's supposed to make it even stronger - then you can just pray that she's not gonna take your phone for a lil' photoshoot .

i've gotten a small dent on the chrome-list on my xperia :/
I have taken care of the device as my son.
Should I talk to SE? or should I just forget about the dent?
I cant understand how it happend :S

forget it. still, even you fixed that dent, time will come your phone will have dents again no matter how careful you are. if its just the batt cover, wait til its full of scratches then replace it when you get a chance to buy one.

Unfortunately that kind of damage (or in fact any kind of physical damage) is extremely rarely covered by warrantries and such, so as bad as it sounds - you have to cover all the expenses if you want the dents, scratches, cracks to disappear.

So, this phone is not for females with long nails !
keep the nice ladies on distance when using your pimp sex1 !

the X1 has teh worst shell (case) i've ever seen

i expected the metal case to be far moreresistent to crashes and accidently drops but it looks like. it totaly isnt.
i droped it 3 times now (horay for beeing drunken) and EVERY FRECKIN TIME i had another crack.
1. time, a little carck near teh camera. thiner as a hair an barely seeable.
2. under the Volume button
3. a part of the plasic case inside the phone. now my battery cover doesnt fit that good anymore and jumps off quite easy
SE ... WTF did u (or HTC) produce here? i cant count how many times i dropped my Nokia's, the K800i and every other freackin cellphone i had before. i also had a PDA before which looked like its going to fall apart if i just touch it. dopped it more times than all my phones together and that thing didnt want to die.
dam ... i realy hope the X2 is going to be better and more resistent to shocks
What did you expect from a phone made from metal? Metal cases are more shiny and look better but the pavement is not their best friend! Metal doesn't necessarily mean increased resistance, plastic is a lot more flexible and resistant to drops.
Sony Ericsson or any manufacturer do not design phones with in mind that their user would have a tendency to drop them frequently. Had that been the case we would all end up having baby-proofed phones
Lol
I think the Idea is not to drop it. This is a piece of precision engineering.
I have dropped every one of my phonesbefore now, from every N series phone (my N95 got it worst) to the iPhone. And all came out fine, but this phone I made sure to protect because I know I drop them so often.
I put a crystal case on it because I'm willing to sacrifice the looks for now until it becomes "just another phone" then i'll take it off and risk it.
Oh, and do as I do, carry several phones, I take a 6230(?) when I think I'm going to be a little "wobbly". Backlights don't work anymore, external speaker broken, vibrate motor wobbles everywhere and the keypad backlights dont work, but atleast when i drop or crush it it keeps going, and I don't care if I break it, cause it's my ex-girlfriends
um, seeing the type of user you are, why get an xperia?
better get one of this and drop them as much as you want:
http://www.rugged-systems.com/c/HandHelds.htm
i dont think i will be interested in X2..
like you said the X1 cant take even the smalles hit, tbh it cant even take normal usage without cracking in diffrent places.
i had 2 SE phones before the X1 and they were both ****, one more than the other.
the W760i walkman phone with built in GPS sucked more than any other phone ive touched, it restarted itself a lot, sound was lagging (when listening to music) sometimes it just froze and i had to take the battery out to restart it, the gps froze as well.. and really! i rather have no gps than one i cant trust.
and last but not least, the case fell apart on me after 5 weeks of being mostly in my pocket attached to BT headphones.. i went to the store and got another one. (i just wouldnt quit on SE for some reason)
the W902i i had for one week and then it froze and i just got fed up and returned it to the store and got a samsung touchwiz, THAT was a good phone, but i want more posibility to config and customize my phone thats why i sold that one, but it felt very solid in hand and never restarted or anything like that...
my xperia had cracks in the case wich has been repaired but i have gotten new cracks in other places now as well, but the "inside" of the phone i love!
(but there are other phones with WM inside and hopefully a better casing, i will get me one of those in the future)
if you manage to find a phone doesnt crack when you drop on to the pavement on table height, let me know

i understand that a cellphone is NOT made to survive a throw aggainst the wall, but usualy cellphones are desinged to surive at least a drop from a table.
nokia, samsung and every other cellphone producer does it. so does SE (usualy)
i dont know why, but i remeber metal cases to not crack that easily. uess i was wrong here
3 drops and 3 cracks!? and all of them in the upper part of the phone are a serious design flaw in my eyes. the "crack in case" sticky thread should proove me somewhat right here.
otherwise its a good phone
edit: well u can be sure that once that thing is repaired, that im going to buy a leather cover for it.

extensive drop tests to ascertain the viability of the device and by viability they mean that the device remains operational following the drop, not whether the device shell does get scratched and how many scratches the shell forms.

scratches are not nearly the same as cracks. a crack leads to instability and that just lead to more cracks. plus ... dropping a cellphone is something that IS tested.
usualy while developing it and maybe tahts what went wrong here. could have been other material or another production technique
omg, this is one of the worst complaining I ever read. X1 is a phone you are not supposed to drop it to the floor. Your phone is still operational and this is what's supposed to do, and your' lucky with it.
If you don't even want scratches buy a ruggedized phone
where exactly did i wrote that i care about scratches?
a phone is a device of usage and not something that should not break just cause u open the batterycase .
thats like building a car out of wood cause u are NOT SUPPOSED to have an accident in it!
great argument...
dam i hate this phone as much as i love it.
im going to send it back to repair and buy myself a leacthercase then and the next time i ever buy a phone with a casted metalcase

We are not talking about scratches. Scratches can not be avoided. Cracks are an entirely different thin. Cracks tend to go right through a surface, scratches are only on a surface. Ive never had a cracked nokia out of bout 5 or 6. On that not ive never had a cracked SE out of 5 or 6, including my x1.
Ive had samsung, lg, nokia, nec, erricson, sony erricson, motorola, xda, siemens, sharp probably forgot a couple, but never had cracks from dropping any of them. Im an HGV mechanic and give them some amount of abuse, dropping them from height, dropping them down pits dropped tools on to them etc etc
I guess ill have to mollycoddle my x1
wtf does mollycoddle mean?
edit: never mind ... got it ^^

How do you drop your phone? If you're drunk don't use your phone if you know you will drop it. Because after the 1st time wouldn't you learn? It doesn't register in your head you've dropped it before? High-end phones shouldn't be more resistant to shock, they were never designed to be dropped!
Here I found a phone designed to be dropped just for you...

achmed,
I've owned a w800i for three to four years, and I've only accidentally dropped it once (slid out of my pocket when I exited the car). So it's possible to not drop your phone at all, you just need to be more careful of your gadgets.
Now, as to the number of times I've thrown the W800i out of rage, that's a whole different story.
Cheers.
The X1 cracks on it's own.
My X1 that already has been repaired twice has 2+1 new cracks and I've only had it back from repairs 8 days.
I have never ever dropped my phone.
1 crack is located on the chromeframe, a hairline crack exactly between the vol and camera buttons.
I think this crack comes from disassembling and assembling it too many times.
The second crack is located by the stylus.
Just to sum it up:
bat/vol crack - 2+1 (I just noticed that my good old bat/vol crack is back a 3rd time)
Chrome frame - 1
Stylus crack - 1
-----------------
equals= 5 cracks in total.
During the last 8 days I've been home sick with the flue and
I haven't used my phone and still it somehow produced 2+1 fresh cracks.
Something is very wrong with this model...
I'm done with this phone now..
Does anyone know of a good replacement for the X1? I really liked the X1 until it started to fall apart..

battery cover "scratches"

hi all
got a "little" problem.. my HD2 battery cover got a little scratch from day one.. thought it was not so bad and just ignored it
but it got worse from week to week, month to month
now this little "scratches" are big, very big xD and it looks like the metal is loosing his upper coating or so
now i dont know what to do, first i wanted to make an engraving on it, but not when it looks so ugly xD
thought about buying a new one from htc store..but its so expensive for just a piece of metal and i didnt find another seller.
now im thinking about scratching the whole upper coating away.. maybe it will look even cool Oo
u got some advise for me how to do it, or if i even SHOULD do it? xD
its a bit weird, cause i never dropped my HD2 or scratched it in any way.. maybe its just my pocket, or maybe there were some little stones on the table wich scratched it.. i dont know :3
look at the pics how my poor HD2 battery cover is looking now ;(
actually it seems to me like some kind of chemical dropped on the back and consumed those ares, from where the coating slowly peeled off expanding the naked area... I'm not even sure you could ask a warranty servicing for the backpanel.
In my opinion, it seems to be a manufacturing defect. If u are right that u made nothing wrong, then i would say it looks like a bad conditioned surface before coating.
In that case it's an issue for warranty
nu.. means i have to send it back to htc :/
lol i cant be without my leo for some weeks xD
and im still thinking about scratching the whole surface away.. it might look very nice.. xD but then i cant use warranty T.T xD
They're selling them soon in their store, not cheap though...
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=195872
you may want to check this http://cgi.ebay.it/Back-Battery-Cas...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item3efe39e88b
Cheapest I've found. And you even get couple free tools that I wish you'll never need.
I don't know if I'll be buying it tho, the part that gets consumed in the plastic sides onto which the metal cover clings, the metal cover itself it not going to wear with time for sure.
aah, nice, thats much cheaper than the one from htc store..
lets see.. dont know yet, cause i just asked someone who works with metals such stuff, means we could scratch it off and repaint it with even better colour or so..
then going to engrave something..
i think im going to try that first before i buy a cover, lets see how i fail =D xD

Galaxy S screen cracked by itself!!!!

Hi everyone looking for some advice.
Yesterday I noticed my Galaxy S screen wouldn't come on after taking it out of my work trouser pocket. Did the usual took the battery off and re-installed it. The screen is now black and not showing anything apart from the very top of the screen which shows some colour and fuzziness. I noticed this morning a half inch crack to the screen middle left of the phone which is internal. The crack is underneath the screen. Now I am 100% this has not been caused by me. The phone has been in a flip case since new and I have never dropped the phone or extreme pressure applied to the screen. The phone is in mint condition with no scratches what so ever. Took the phone to T-Mobile this morning as it is covered under warranty for 24 months and the phone is a year old. The first person I spoke to looked at the phone and saw the crack. They said to me that there would be no point sending it off for repair as it would be deemed as accidental damage. I did point out that there was know way I caused the crack. The person stated even having it in your pocket can cause the screen to crack if pressure is applied to it by other items e.g keys or if I pressed against it. The phone was the only thing that was in my pocket and it was a side pocket of my trousers where no pressure is ever applied. I have kept it in the same pocket of my work trousers for a year and never had any problems. The person then referred me to another collegue who was more helpful. She looked at the phone and confirmed that it was in mint condition with no scratches to the phone. She advised that she would send it off for repair but did explain that they could refuse to repair it or replace if it was deemed accidental damage.
I just have this bad feeling that it is going to come back with them saying it was my fault even though I know it wasn't. Does anyone have any views or opinions on what to do if this happens. I have searched the net and found other people around the world who have had the same problem with their Galaxy S. Looking at prices I will be looking at a few hundred pounds to repair it which I don't think is worth it.
I know you say adamantly that you did not cause the crack, But in some way or other you must have..
I know you are extra extra careful with your phone, Im the same as mine, But there is no way the screen could just crack on its own.
It doesnt have a mind of its own, It didnt crack due to stress, it wasnt poorly. You must of accidently cracked it without realising.
The best you can do is hope it gets fixed under warranty, Otherwise scout around for a phone shop that could replace it for you.

Yeah .. sure!
Let me give you an example of ... my car.
The story:
Windshield broken due to a small rock on the highway (the usual stuff). Went to repair shop, new windshield installed. Everything was perfect until this summer (2 years later). The windshield was still in great condition, no cracks, no pinches, no nothing ... as new. One day, during the lunch break from work I've started the engine, and in one minute after the air conditioner started, the windshield cracked. It was a very sunny day and my car was parked in the full sun.
Who's fault it is? Mine for miss usage? Manufacturer of the windshield? God? poor assembly at the repair shop? pick one.
I would say that the amoled will be replaced because its obvious no mechanical stress was applied ... it was just a faulty unit, nothing more. I have a friend who replaced the amoled screen, under warranty, due to 3 dead pixels ... twice.

wouldnt the heat from the sun, Then the sudden cold cause such thing to crack ? glass DOES break due to rapid temperature changes, Try this at your house. Put the hair dryer to the window on a really cold day and leave it till it breaks .
And your friend got his screen replaced because of dead pixels.... That is a fault, that was not his fault.
Its a strange case, but its hard to think the screen just broke of its own accord.
I was trying to underline the obvious .. sometimes things break doe to some other reasons than "you". It is obvious that a glass will be under great stress if you put it uncer big temperatures changes but still ... that glass was supposed to resist to such stress.
Same thing with the screen in question: the amoled is a thin film placed on top of some strong substrate. The whole structure is supposed to resist to certain stress and there is no way you can break it by miss usage unless you will break the outer glass also (gorilla glass + capacitive digitizer). So, no matter we are talking about dead pixels on a 2 months old screen or of a cracked amoled structure under the intact gorilla glass, the "cause" is the same : faulty unit (maybe is the amoled itself which has a flaw, maybe is the way it was mounted in the phone ... doesn't really matter).
Maybe your right, But the whole thing is still very strange.
Anyway lets just hope the outcome is better, and it gets fixed under warranty.
But you know what these service centre folk are like, They will try anything to avoid repairs.
Thanks guys for your replies. As I said the crack is internal underneath the outer screen so surely if I had damaged it the outer screen would be damaged. I'm not very hopeful that T-Mobile will repair it but I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
I will let you know the outcome.
Thanks

Does your contract have an insurance policy ? if so that should cover accidental damage (i know its not accidental, But they may say it is)
And if not, are T mobile fixing it, Or are they going to send it to samsung ?
Gotta admit its a cracking screen eh? [Nt]
:d :d :d :d :d :d :d
Unfortunately I didn't take out insurance. The phone has been sent away by t-mobile for their repairers to assess but they did advise that it probably will come back not repaired due to the crack being my fault even though I said that I believe I didn't cause it.

Well if tmobile send it back UN fixed, Send it back to samsung, Is it still under the 12 month warranty ?
I believe the warranty expires this week or next so probably wont be able to, thanks for the suggestion.
If you get it back from T-Mobile unfixed, sent it directly to Samsung.
Maybe they'll still fix it. If they dont they'll probably will call you to tell you how much fixing it will cost. Start telling your whole story again and again, make them tired of hearing
If they dont listen, tell them you want to put in a complaint. Ask for an email adres or something were you can send your complaint email to. Dont let them send the phone back.
Send a large mail explaining everything, maybe put in some laws that apply to your case, like that it has to be faulthy when manufactured etc.
Also that you havent had any scratches on it and that the crack is UNDER the glass.
If they reply again with "we dont fix it" again send a mail with telling them that the phone is in mint condition and that the crack UNDER the screen came out of nowhere and that by law they have to fix it. Make them believe you'll sue them in court if they dont fix it.
Even call them if necessary.
Do everything to be a pain in the ass and meanwhile make sure they dont send the phone back during all this.
Maybe it will work, maybe it wont. But its better then giving up. Gives you a bigger chance of success.
manufacturers like dont like problems that take a long time. And if you proof yourself to be an annoying customer, one that shows he wont give up and do everything that they can to give the manufacturer a bad name, they'll probably think its better to win that particular customer over then to fight him. They dont like bad press.
Maybe they'll fix it, maybe they dont, maybe even they'll give you a discount at fixing it. At least you didnt make it easy for them.
Thanks for the reply. I am definetly not going to just be pushed aside and give up. If the phone comes back un-repaired I am going to complain to T-mobile and keep complaining to them. I will also take your advice and send it to Samsung and complain to them. I know lots of other people who have iphones without cases who do not look after them, scratched, dropped and are still working fine. Then the opposite end there is my phone which has been in a leather flip case from new protecting the screen. I have never dropped it and it doesn't have a scratch on it. Really annoying!
Really there is only one reason a screen/windowzsheet of glass whatever will crack and that is due to force. Force of some sorts was applied to the screen and honestly, as much as you don't want to hear it, it was almost certainly because you leaned on in it. In the pocket and your next a desk, or a chair, and you wouldn't even know its happened 9/10 until you take the phone out to use it. Often the phone will still be "functional " except for the dark screen so you can still feel it vibrate with may's so it could be some hours later before you realise. Another possibility is it was a previous drop or bump that wasn't enough to do it there and then and has simply hit breaking point on this unfortunate day. :'( other causes are to much pressure when a replacement is fitted, as happens with car screens more often than you would think, all it takes is the smallest little bit of awkward pressure and sure enough. Extremely rare for this to happen on a phone as the screens are mounted and held in place in a fundamentally different way.
I've worked in phone shops and car dealerships to qualify my above statements and honestly for all the hassle you are going to face, from people like me mostly, that it simply doesn't break on its own and you being aware of the force is a mute point. The fact is the force was applied and the screen broke. You knowing it happened or even being responsible is not the point, the point is was it a manufacturing error that caused it. They gonna say no and its going to really piss you off and when all is said and done you'll wish you just got a new screen off eBay and fitted it yourself or found someone local who does it.
Just saying is all...
Hope you find a solution mate and I'm sorry if it seems cold but dem de facts....

T-Mobile repair centre emailed me last week stating that the repair was out of warranty as it is physical damage and they quoted £138 to fix. I refused the quote and asked for the phone to be returned to the shop. In the meantime I wrote a letter of complaint to T-Mobile. I picked up my phone a couple of days ago from the shop. Yesterday morning received a phone call from a really nice lady at T-Mobile complaints investigation team. I explained to her the whole situation and she immediately said without disputing it that they would replace the phone free of charge for a new one. Hopefully it is arriving tomorrow - RESULT!

WOW !!! that truly is a result ... Great news man ! I Highly highly doubted you would get any help considering the extremity of the circumstances.... its like a 1/10000 chance of that happening lol.
Buts its great that you are getting a new phone and havent been left with a HUGE bill.
a little moaning and complaining can go a very loooooooong way

S4 Screen cracked in front jeans pocket! Galaxy S4 is very weak!

I have been so careful with my S4, never dropped it. Looking after it. Today I put my phone in my front jeans pocket like always. Got in the car and after a 5 minute drive got out and the screen is showing funny colors and its cracked ;(
I have had many phones in this front jeans pocket (They all lived) and somehow a slight bend has done this. Very weak, if you ask me we are going to see a lot of this as it seems the phone is not the strongest at all. Time for a unibody HTC I think. I've had it with Samsung's plastic crap.
My phone will be up on ebay if anyone wants an i9500 for spares.
Edit: The gorilla glass is fine, its the amloed behind that cracked.
you must of sat on it or something because mine is always in my front pocket (screen facing my leg) and no problem..

As you see the glass didnt break... so it is definitly a thing to worry about...
It was in my front pocket, that is all. I did not sit on it. Many phones have lived in my front pocket. My S4 did not like it. Yes its my fault of course. Just saying that in my experience its weak! Very weak. Infact this is the first phone I have broken ever.
Yes im mad...Just saying this phone is weak. I'm no HTC fanboy, just going to get a unibody that will survive front jeans pocket better than this.
And its very strange that the glass did not break. Just the top of the amoled.

My point exactly, should not have broken. But did. Its weak, or my S4 had a weakness of sorts. 799 usd down the drain....
Call samsung and your cell phone carrier and see what they can do. Google for replacement parts and fix it yourself. Also should always get a protector case for this multi hundred dollor phones. If you can spend $200-$600 for a phone spending $50 for case is nothing. Wish you luck.

This should be covered under warranty imo, assumung there are no marks or damage caused by dropping the phone or something similar. Call a repair centre and turn it in for warranty repair, i think they will cover it.
This has happened a few times now to people on here and is clearly an issue with this phone. The phone glass screen cracking is one thing. The Amoled itself without the glass being damaged is something else and a clear design fault. I'd be f*****g livid if this happened to mine and would expect a replacement or at least a repair.

I searched around and yep. It seems i'm not the only one. The phones amoled can crack that easy has to be a design flaw. I'm thinking maybe it was heat changes too? But my front pocket, come on. Its BS. I will call Samsung tomorrow and see what they can do. I hope this has a happy ending.
Mine did this too, but i didn't even sit down, put it in my pocket after getting out of the car walked into the house took it back out my pocket, cracked amoled, glass undamaged!
This is now the 5th thread on here that I have seen about this problem and posted in!
There's a picture of mine in one of the other threads
Sent my phone to samsung who say its physical damage so not covered under warranty!
Lets hope if enough people complain they might repair them!

Lots of people saying we must have dropped them and its not very common, but threads like this are popping up every few days!
How many have to report this before people start taking it serious and start to believe there just might be a build/quality issue!!
Let us know your results good luck! Think you might have issues proving it is design fault and you didn't drop it etc (i do belive you but these companies are A holes)

Ouch so Samsung will not fix it! I will see what they say tomorrow. Its clearly a design fault. Because I have had many phones in my jeans front pocket and no issues till know. Its stupid that this happened. Hopefully Samsung will do something about this! Did you manage to recovery your files of the phone?
Edit: Maybe its the heat in our pocket that made the screen crack. I did have it glass facing my leg like always come to think of it.
Almost all reports of the LCD cracking have been caused by stress with quite a few people mentioning "pockets." It's pretty clear the SGS4 because of its thinness and near bezel-less display is more prone to stress damage than the SGS3 was. But since Samsung never published a stress guarantee for the SGS3 or said the SGS4 would be better or worse people with damaged panels have acted as scouts warning others about stressing the SGS4. I'd be shocked if any of these cracked panels were repaired under warranty and if they are it would be considered goodwill. So with what's known either don't subject the SGS4 to stress or buy another phone if it's a concern. Samsung's not going to change the design or repair damaged displays carte blanche because it's too hard to tell what's been caused by user damage and what's a stress crack which, in a way, could be considered user damage also (it didn't crack by itself ). And with no implied durability guarantees from Samsung it’s going to be awfully hard fighting them as what’s “weak” or “strong” isn’t defined so everyone’s expectations are just that; expectations. I'm sure this isn't what people want to hear but it's pretty much the state of the union.
Mine is always in my pocket and my jeans are not that loose wt all. I wear a tight fit

Used kies to back up the phone, as it still starts up fine

Shattered glass

This morning I stupidly shattered the glass on my HN8. I propped it up whilst talking on Skype then it fell face down on the floor. The glass is completely shattered. However the the digitiser and touch screen all appear to be working fine with no bleed or loss of touch sensitivity anywhere on the screen. So I'm guessing I could just replace the glass or get one of these little repair shops you see around to do it? Any advice would be great right now. Seems such a shame. Saw a German Youtube on how to change the glass on a Huawei P8 possibly looks like it might be a bit too involved for my skill level?
Going to get it fixed at local mobile repair shop. £195 and it will take about a month. Moral of the story DO NOT DROP and smash your screen!!! Had a look on ebay and a few other places £150 for digitiser and screen frame, but not brave enough to attempt repair myself. The only good thing to come out of this is when I get it back. Nougat might be available. Did I mention... Don't drop your phone and smash your screen?

Also I hate Big bulky cases. The Handset is big enough. I realise It probably would have spared my screen, but still. Thanks for taking time to offer a solution though. Appreciated!!!:good:
I have already handed my device in for repair. doesn't look too involved in this video. However I still don't feel confident enough to attempt something like this. Maybe the next time I shatter the screen In all seriousness though Just be aware if you fix your phone by yourself or get it done like I have, It's not going to be a cheap, quick job.
Take good care of your HN8'sguys!

I think the main problem is availability of the display unit, where did you find yours? I

Like I said, I took it in for repair to a repair shop so, They are sourcing digitiser display. Probably One from China I would imagine.
You can get the LCD assembly on Aliexpress for 120GBP/148USD/198AUD
I think it's a bit cheaper than eBay.
