1-you dont need a screen protector for the HD2
the screen is s scratch resistance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcEaehKWr2s
there is other videos than this just search youtube
2-if you like
The screen may be glass, scratch-resistant glass too but the clue is in the name. Scratch-resistant, it's not scratch proof.
I suggest getting some screen protectors but that's just me. What harm can it do? I use a Vikuiti.
I also suggest getting a rubber case and a car holder if you need one. Check out netimes for this stuff.
another phone to send text messages with...
I suggest you buy somthing like InvisibleSHIELD, as my friend pointed out the screen is not scratch proof, also you may want to keep in mind protection of the casing!
Ignore the comments that you don't need a screen protector.
If you want a screen protector then buy one (or a few so you've got spares). There ARE people on here that have scratched their screen, in their pockets, with keys and/or change, so it can happen. It's just quite rare, hence the incorrect comments above.
Mine came with a leather pouch - the official one - and it's great. It was tight as anything when I first used it, but after a couple of days it had loosened up to perfection. It still needs to be pushed out - it won't fall - but it doesn't take a lot to get it out.
If yours doesn't come with one (some don't, unfortunately), there's plenty to choose from. Check the accessories forum where there's ongoing threads with plenty of choices.
Finally, as pointed out by BLAST3RR, GET INSURANCE!!! lol
The screen is definitely not scratch proof, I have some scuff scratches on the top right of my device from my pocket.

I second the invisibleSHIELD (or similar) solution, covers every panel, wraps around the edges and corners, feels nice to the touch.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was picked at and ripped off, but I recon a little slightly soapy moisture will free it. It sticks using surface interaction rather than by anything glue like, so its just a case of being gentle and adding a lubricant.

thanks for all the replies guys'n'gals
I just ordered some screen protectors and a packet of sock cases for the HD2 (my missus can have the pink one! )
I just rang T-Mobile and added their phone insurance on to my account so im covered the moment i recieve it today!
By the way, i know people have been banging on about the cost of the HD2 as a t-mobile (uk) upgrade, but, i got mine for free, still on 18 month and did not have to change my tarriff (£35 flext 35). RESULT

First of all.You are gonna have a lot of phone with that fun, eeehhhh sorry I meant fun with that phone ;-)
good choice about insurance and screen protectors. About the case/pouch I would still wait and try to get by with the the one delieverd with the device because a new extended battery is announced to be available next month at some point. Once this is out, there will be new pouches/cases due to the extra size. Of course just if you want to keep the option of upgrading the battery ....

Hello,
i want to change my Ameo in a new one because there are a lot of scratches on the front body. The reason is that the keyboard slipping on the surface of the body.
If any one have the same problem please Post it here because i want to show T- Mobile that this is a failure of construction.
Mine is exactly the same, I tried to take a picture, but it wasnt comming out very well, I was quite annoyed because I tried to keep it good. Does anybody know if this happens with the black ones or is it just silver. mine isnt insured and T-Mobile wouldnt entertain me for insurance because it was 3 months old. though I have heard you can insure it online somewhere.
i've got the same kind of scratches at exactly the same positions.
but i don't think t-mobile will do anything about this
i'ts a normal sign of use
I have some scratches as well, fairly similar to yours. I'll have some pics made if I can get a hold of a good enough camera.
I have a scratch at the bottom of the screen surround. The keyboard clear top has a tiny bump on it (from where it was moulded i think) and this has scratched the case! If it had a decent leather case then it wouldnt happen!
Same here, Same scratches, same area..
Guess we need to find a decent case to carry our precious around in...
Something that has some padding between the 2 parts.
Mine doesn't have this problem. Not a single scratch at all. It still look brand new. I don't use the keyboard or the leather case though. I just carry mine "naked" with my DIY belt pouch. I just have the standard free plastic screen protector over the screen area only and not the body.
This is ironic. The keyboard is supposed to protect but does the opposite.

It definetely does protect (the screen from cracks).
And imho some scratches on the body of the ameo are much better than a cracked screen
You now, we are speaking about a 800€ all in one device? Such a failure must not happen. If you had a 800€ Notebook with the same problem you would complaine about.
This is what my U1000 looks like close to the VGA camera on the front.
There are 2 more areas where I have some damage but I can't capture it properly on camera.
This is why we should take out insurance on our most expensive phones, as i hate scratches on my phones and if you complain about it with your provider/supplier and they are not willing to replace it when its a manufacture defect then i would personally claim on my insurance QUOTE (MY PHONE IS LOST/STOLEN TO GET BACK A REPLACEMENT) Its too expensive a device for it to scratch so easily.
I have the black HTC Advantage and I have the scratches too.
I have the black Athena and barely any scratches on mine. I use the stock case. The only time I got it scratched is when I first got it because I tried to use it without the case. Mistake on my part.
If you search the forum, you can also buy a $25 solution that protects your entire Athena. It's a plastic transparent covering that protects the entire body of the device. I think I may have posted it in the past to the accessories area. Well worth the tiny investment to protect the looks of your device.
Yep, I have the Black HTC Advantage X7500 and I have no scratches on it. I also do carry naked in my pocket especially around the office to meetings. However, I do feel I need something to protect it without gaining the bulk. I am still looking for a belt clip to carry it.
Just found this product.
http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/HTCX7500.html
Read good review on PocketPCThoughts for a different product.
Has anyone tried it? It states as full body shield which includes guards for keyboard as well.
Looks Intresting.. But we all know that these type of solution are never as easy to install (Esp. as there are 8 pieces for the Athena)
as they are in the Promo vidz. The vidz also mention that the film has Adhesive on it. How would this affect the deve by:
1. Discoloring over time
2. Being able to easily remove the film, if need or if damaged.
3. Being removed from the screen, without pulling the touchscreen's
touch sensor film off.
Has anybody tried this stuff yet? I think I'll wait for more feedback before I buy.

From some of comments, it seems easy to remove from a pda.
I don't know if that comment was from someone who works for ShieldZone though.

I just ordered one. I'm having it shipped via 3 day UPS. I'll post my thoughts once I try it out. For the cost it's worth a try. They also have a lifetime replacement policy so if they get screwed up you get a free one. We'll see how it goes.

you dont have a screen protector on your phone?? it shouldve came with your phone unless you got it else where. better get these
well i screwed up the one that came wit it by trying to get it perfectly on the screen, so after ripping it out over and over again i kept gettin dust on it, so i threw it away and for now i put that original one back that has the pictures on it and shows you how to tilt ur phone? u know the one that comes on it when its brand new wit "warnings" and stuff...
either way...i am about to purchase either the "Expert Shield" or the pocket solution ones and i am tryin to get some feedback on the pocket solution ones first before purchasing. as for now, i have my phone on "baby mode" and am leaving it at home
geez...no one?
Expert Shield all the way. Don't even second guess it.
Expert Shield rocks. I have used them for my Tilt and a couple of cameras. You just have be careful putting them on. It is really easy to get dust under it if your not careful. Look on eBay and you can find them for really cheap shipped from either Hong Kong or Canada. Usually around $10 - $12 shipped. They are more expensive here.

+5 to that. i'm using them now on my tilt.
they're thick, yet flexible, have yet to show any wear from the stylus, & they haven't appeared to affect the touch sensitivity either.
It's been said by someone here that the Expert Shield protectors are just as good as the Martin Fields. He ruined one of his Martin Fields and I told him to try out ES and he said it was great.
They're a lot cheaper also.

PSP Screen protector
I'm using a Hiro PSP Screen protector (cut into size) covers 99.9% of the screen almost same thickness as with martin fields, but at a fraction of the price
It also doesn't affect screen sensitivity.

I bought an Expert Shield and am VERY happpy with it. You're dead on about the dust thing and I'll add fingerprints to that list.
I did discover is that you can remove it and wash the sticky side off with warm water and a clean finger. Then pat dry lightly with lint free cloth for eye glasses. It will it go right back on just like new!!!! I did this three times in a row for fingerprints and dust that was bugging me.
Great product!!!

I'm using them, and they are ok for the money. There are better ones out there like the others are stating. But for 5 bucks, not a bad buy at all.
Also try Boxwave's ClearTouch, It's a bit pricey but man... after 2 month with this thing stick on my screen, it didn't even get a single scratch on it, hard as a rock! Also perfect fit. It's also washable and after wash it with soap and put it back on to your screen it looks like brand new... Well worth the money.
Link here.
Someone here linked them before I bought them and they are garbage. They are a pain in the ass to put on the first one I put on didnt cover enough of the screen and anything off of your fingers stays on there and its very hard to clean you have to use water. Mircofiber cloth wasnt good enough. Within two weeks it bubbled up and I had to trash the 1st one. The 2nd one that came in the pack was too big and it was also did not fit well. Oh yea
I dont recommend them.
Lifetime Shield
Invisible Shield. Thats the one.
Lifetime shield
The invisible shield does have a different feel to it, but its nothing thats a show stopper. The company is good for its work, they have already replaced one due to the lack of a camera opening for my tytn 2.
Well..like everything else I own...it was bound to get some imperfection within a short amount of time in possession. But lemme make myself clearer...I dropped my phone on the pavement and therefore I now have a scratched screen. While we all know metal can't scratch glass..pavement and diamond rings apparently still apply. But this isn't to simply warn all of you of the obvious fact that screen protectors are very handy on any device, but its to inform that no method found on he internet will cure scratches on the glass. From toothpaste to Brasso(which makes it worse actually). Nothing works..and therefore you are doomed to the scratches! Not sure what half he people on the internet are raving about on half the remedies for scratches in glass, but that's all it is, is hype. So learn from me either live with the scratches, buy protectors while you can...or end up forking over the money for a new screen eventually.
Bummer...not even sure if a screen protector would have survived concrete. But a good case would have...

Sorry lol..Was typing it on my phone while watching Reno 911...I meant to say "metal can't scratch gorilla glass as easily".
Otherwise...I guess I'll try and wait out the arrival of HTC bravo or Supersonic...if either come to the US with a sim card carrier, and just give this nexus one to my GF. She claims I'm just being paranoid over something small so I guess she won't mind taking over ownership should a better phone come out.

Your completely giving up on the phone because a simple scratch on the screen, and instead you will wait for the Bravo a phone uglier than the concept model? This scratch must be very, very, bothersome.
I do get heavily irritated over small things such as this, but I would never buy an entire new phone over it. If its noticeable when the phone is on, then maybe yea..

Have you priced out a new screen, by any chance?
All I keep reading is currently a repair for things like screens run 250 from HTC and maybe 75 to 150 from some place in Texas.
As for giving up on the nexus, I didn't mean give up on the nexus...just give it away when they come out with something newer should the specs not be lacking in the hardware section. The all black of the bravo, or even red/black of the supersonic are more my style anyways. But if their specs are worse, ill stick with the nexus.
Luckily I keep the stock case on...
because it seems I forget it is in my lap and I get out of the car, and so far I've dropped it about 5 times on the pavement and it is still beautiful!
Haha..you're totally right the stock case was doing me a great justice but I had gotten out of the car texting and sat my case down in the passenger seat and on the way back and at the edge of the pavement and grass it fell out of my hand lol ... and skipped around a a bit and resulted in one scratch/etch you can see while the phone is on and about 3 more while its off. Even the edges of whatever material the phone is made of has an etch in it. All these are very small seperately but all together are very distracting. I hope eventually I can get the screen repaired for under a hundred. Then I'd buy a protector and be happy with my nexus. But right now the prices to repair them are more than I originally paid for the phone. An I'd rather not pay more than a hundred for screen repair.

Some watch repairers have buffing machines to take scratches out of glass, you could try to find one of them.
I didn't even put the battery in my Nexus One until after I had put an Invisibleshield on it.
i highly recommend investing in a full phone protector.. i paid $35 and they wrapped my phone entirely in plastic screen protector material. Lifetime warranty on the stuff too.
If it ever gets scratched just bring it back and they replace it free.
hi all,
i just acquired an hd2(yey!) and im just wondering if the screen is scratch proof. it did not come with any screen protector and we dont have it available yet in our country. so im a little jumpy regarding the screen. so is it scratch proof/resistant? can i not put any screen protector on it?
thanks!
Isn't it glass like the iPhone? Nothing short of metal keys will scratch the screen I believe. I don't bother using a screen protector on my ipod touch and there's no scratches but my friend's keys scratched his to hell and back.
true that it is glass. im just tad worried in wiping the screen with a cloth or something. i have an ipod touch with a screen protector. really it does not get scratched? i keep my phones and itouch AWAY from anything metal.
thanks!
You may cry or feel sick to your stomach:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcEaehKWr2s
My perspective:
It's a touch screen. It is designed to be touched with fingertips. Nothing sharper than your finger should ever need to contact it.
1) Buy a micro-fiber cloth to clean it and 2) always carry the HD2 in the very nice included leather case when not in use.
Wipe it down with the micro-fiber cloth when necessary to remove smudges, and with just a little very basic care, scratches should not be an issue.
I wouldn't take it to the beach and body surf on it, but it is pretty resistant to scratches, in my experience. I highly doubt you'll ever get a scratch if you follow simple common sense principles of use like the one's I described above.
What Donalgodon said. Keep it away from keys and don't mistake your cleaning cloth with sand paper and you'll be golden.

Nothing is totally scratch proof, but in all honesty and sincerity, I do not think any reasonable person who exercises any level of due diligence in using their HD2 needs a screen protector, or any other kind of super deluxe, super shell kryptonite diamond laser embossed anal-retentive vault to carry it around in.
It's a tool. Use it. If you are too worried about it, then you should find something you can live with (or without) if something happened to it.
I don't mean that to sound flippant, I am just trying to inject a little perspective, because it is easy to get carried away thinking that it needs to be treated like a Faberge egg.
It's scratch resistant. Under normal operating use, you shouldn't be able to scratch it really. I doubt anything is "scratch proof".
thanks for the reply everyone. im just so excited in playng with the pone due to its screen but i am very hesitant in doing so. ive had a number of htc devices and all came with screen protector. this is the first one i got so im quite hesitant touching and wiping the screen.
leather case rocks!
I totally sympathize with you. I made the mistake of not putting a screen protector on a Touch Pro and I have always regretted it. But that screen was made from flismy plastic, this one is glass.

You have a phone thats worth almost up to the price of £500, buy a £10 screen protector

Whilst some argue it doeesnt need it or why bother if you are that padentic over it, at the end of the day they are a few $ on ebay so why on earth wouldnt you put one on. its so easy to do and does offer more protection so for such a cheap price delivered straigth to your door, i dont see you would want to think about it.
Just be warned some are not as good quality as others and can look ugly as it doesnt stick properly. Ive got one on from Ebay, you wouldnt even know its there.
So I'm interested in this screen protector, as it offers edge to edge protection along with some other features I like:
amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B009W6C3YO/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header - sorry cant link yet due to post requirements.
However, as I'm in the UK its not available to me. I've searched everywhere for it, they just dont sell it here at-all.
In desperation I turned to a friend who lives in the US, and asked him if he could order it to him first, then ship it to me.
So, my question to you Skinomi owners:
What are the dimensions of the box the screen protector comes in? I know the shipping weight (3.8 oz), but the dimensions are no-where to be found on the web. I've looked on the USPS website for shipping rates to the UK, and if it can fit in a "large" envelope and weighs 3.8 oz, then I'm only paying $4 for shipping, which is good. But if it cant, I'm looking at $70+ just for shipping :S
Description of the large envelope:
Other than rolls: Max. length 24", max length, height and depth (thickness) combined 36"
Rolls: Max. length 36". Max length and twice the diameter combined 42"
Help please?
Edit, for mods;
The question when posting this thread was "Is this a question?"
Though this is a question, its not directly linked to a Q&A of a nexus 4, thus not wanting to be posting a accessories question in the nexus Q&A, I posted here. Sorry if I'm wrong, feel free to move the thread as you wish mods. :good:
I've still got my box, even though I don't use the Skinomi anymore (ended up with a Spigen). Here you go.
4 3/8" x 7 1/8" x 1"
Approximately.
Why you don't order this from eBay or directly from Skinomi website??

I just got it from eBay, thanks for the idea - its still shipping from the US but I only paid $9 for postage with an estimate of 12 days :good:
I bought a tech skin for my phone and tablet from amazon.com. you can have an account with a UK address. It was cheaper from skinomi on Amazon than through there own site. Also only took around 4 days to arrive. I think in total it was $20 or so delivered to the UK.
Sent from my stock Nexus 4

I got mine 5 days ago from CA (I'm in the UK), the protector does feel good (not too rubbery), though it doesn't have a high quality finish as MediaDevil has, plus it does peal with my BALLISTIC case, I did get around this with six 1mm sellotape rectangles, their barley visible, and they keep the protector from pealing on the edges. Overall an alright product, I definitely overpaid, but with lifetime warranty, I might make a clam soon.
I used Skinomi on my HTC Sensation before I discovered Best Skins Ever, BSE are much better - they're much less resistive to touch (feel almost like glass) and they do a case optimised version which leaves a small gap around the edges so cases/bumpers won't lift the protector, or a full version which fits to the edges.
I do like the packaging of Skinomi and the premium cloth and squeegee it comes with though.
Mines come tomorrow and I'll leave a comment on its quality, etc.
I hope my seidio case comes too.
Pros: Self-healing that actually works..
Cons: Everything else.
Think I might just go with "Just like glass"
Mine came in today but I'm waiting to install it till tomorrow night. Gotta work tomorrow
So I installed it and it's okay. I'm keeping it because I paid fifteen bucks for it and I don't want to run rawdog without one. I have never liked screen protectors. My gnex had one on it when I bought it and I couldn't stand it. I ended up removing it. It was a zagg I think.
I think I'll buy one of the tempered ones soon.
Just not all that impressed.

You should check out "Just like glass" I'm considering ordering from them. They look amazing.
Well after my Skinomi needs replacing that is... Seems like never, it just keeps healing itself. Heh
They sent me an extra for doing a review on Amazon. Pretty good of them.

Keep your fingers wet. Do it in a hot steamy bathroom to minimize dust.
Follow the included instructions.
I've got one of these. Imo, they are easier to apply than other dry application screen protectors I've purchased in the past. And come with a neat microfiber cloth. I also enjoy the textured protector for the back of the device. It came with pieces to cover the sides, top, and bottom too but those weren't so simple to make use of unfortunately.

Wow thanks, that's a great idea. I'll be utilizing that when I replace the one I've got on there now.

Does anyone here who is based in the UK have a screen protector by Skinomi that they would be willing to sell me please?

Just get a BSE, they're cheaper, better and deliver to the UK. Trust me, I've tried pretty much every wet apply screen protector there is over the past couple of years
This screen protector is a total pos! It is constantly peeling off. & stretching
Back side does not stay sticky
Also every where my case is touching it. It had faded to a matte finish.
I would try to get some pics later today.
I think I will stick with Zagg.
