ROM Dump and Reflash on XDA II - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Ok, I'm new to this messing about with ROM's etc, but two easy questions.
1. How can I dump my XDA II ROM (somewhere) pref. not SD card, and then rewrite it to a different XDA II without killing either device ?
2. Is the SIM lock code part of the ROM ? If it is, will the lock status be taken across when the first ROM is written to the second device.
Idiot proof instructions appreciated !!!! - or am I just barking totally up the wrong tree ?
Has anyone either done this or know how to do this ?
Thanks

Is "Flash Writting" a radio stack possible?

I can't boot my XDA because I b0rked the radio stack upgrade.. So it just hangs at the O2 bubbles... and when I go to the bootloader I get GSM error. I can flash write new ROMs no problem - but I still get the same problem... Is it possible to "Flash Write" a RSU?
Thanks.
After further investigation - it would appear it's not possible to flash write a radio stack. I've totally killed my XDA
I think a guy on the forum from canada can do something with dead xda, he programs the chip directly "jtag"? Look around the forum because I cannot remember his name.
Did a search for JTAG... http://xda-developers.com/jtag/
Looks scary

THis is new to me... where did you find this information?
I am in the same boat, but I believe we could flash the GSM ROM from a SD card. I have been looking for some information to do this ..
Just now, I borrowed another xda in order to back up the working GSm ROM to my SD card. However, it turned out that the Wallaby was a 5.17. After patching it , the GSM ROM to SD (bacup) "menu" was gone.
I believe we could flash the GSM ROM, because in the bootloaders, there is always a menu for GSM ROM to SD backup.
However, this is only my personal observation. I was hoping if our XDAdevelopers could shed some light and give us some advice in this matter. It's been a really sad XMas for me because of all these 'excitements'.
If someone could post a GSm ROM (in my case an 900/1800) and perhaps also give us a method how to 'write' it to a SD RAM. THat would be really cool!!
I still have the Write GSM on my XDA... but the option seems to require a special piece of software.. It asks you to connect the "R2284 cable" or something similar, and to start the "PC Monitor" software... It doesn't just write it to the SD card as it suggests
Ross: many thanks for your information.
Hmm.. in my case, it won't be easy to buy or find a serial cable. D
If anyone knows how to get this serial cable in Bangkok, please kindly let me know.
Let's hope our XDA developers and other friends in this great forum would give us some other idea to get around this..

First Post Sorry !!!

Well this is my first post and i am making it why ? .... Yes you got it right i bought something called Qtek S100 and after some research i got here.
And now as any new person having a toy im wondering what the toy can do ...
After having read some of the posts in the forum im going to make some questions i find pertinent.
1) Do all the brands that sell this have the same hardware so i can flash it with just about anyone´s flash roms ?
2) Whats the procedure for doing the above operation and what to do if all goes wrong and the image gets "screwed"? New Phone ?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Trystam,
I try to reply:
1) No. It is better to download and flashing the correct written ROM to the device. Usually there is a checking on the program to find out wheter the ner ROM is for specific device.
2) Usually as long as we can have Bootloader not screw up, we can always flashing the ROM. It is means safe.
If Bootloader fail, we need to do flashing direct (open the case). A bit difficult and need people expert enough to do it.
So, it is better to read opinion use the correct ROM and tools, and decide carefully wheter you need to flashing another ROM to the device.
Hope can help.
Best regards,
Arto.
I flashed my T-mobile Compact with Qtek rom and it works.... all these brands have same hardware, because their one and only manufacturer is HTC..

Couple of things...Unlocking ROM and My Info screen

Morning all.
I've just got a XDA IIi (Andes?). I have been trying to unhide the extended ROM and no matter what I try it won't unhide. Is there a newer tool or a different way to do it on the XDA IIi ?
Also, when the XDA starts, I get the My Info screen, with My Info. Anyone know if it is possible to edit the screen to put a different header on instead of the My Info header?

Completely Newbie and Beginners Questions (Wizard)

Hi all
I have recently bought a UK MDA Vario, and then I found this site. I have spent the whole weekend reading posts on this website and find it very interesting what we can actually do with our devices. Everyone here seems to have in-depth knowledge of this device and it's programming structure. This is my first HTC device and I have some very basic questions which I'm not sure if anyone here is bothered to answer (or point me a link where I can find the answers).
I can understand SIM-unlock, but...
(1) what is CID unlock (in fact what is "CID" and "SuperCID")?
(2) What is Bootloader?
(3) What is ROM? (is it equivalent to the "Windows OS" we install on PC?)
(4) What is Extended ROM, and what is usually placed in here as opposed to ROM?
(5) Can we just use any ROM on any variation of Wizard, and work?
(6) What is RAPI?
Thanks for your patience, guys.
Tones
Hi guys
So will you help out a beginner pls?
Thanks
Tones
toneslee: may I be so bold as to direct you towards the Hitchkikers Guide to HTC Phones, so to speak, the Wiki, top left of your browser or here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com
It won't answer all of your questions, but it'll help.
We're all newbies from a certain point of view, and a lot of gestalt knowledge goes into the Wiki. Have a look through there, have a hunt around on the board, and any questions or answers that need clarifying, elucidate here. We'll be glad to help as far as we can I'm sure

Hey dude,
Welcome on the forums.
I will try to answer your questions.
(1) CID = Country ID.
CID unlock will unlock the country ID on your phone so you can install other roms and also other roms with different languages (e.g. if you have a Dutch MDA and want an English rom)
(2) Bootloader for our phone is like the BIOS on a pc
(3) ROM is like an image.
We have 3 different rom types.
* OS Rom - image that includes the Operation System of our phones
* Radio or GSM Rom - rom is for all phones features, GPRS etc
* Extended Rom - this rom includes additional application, customizations etc
(4) Check answer 3
(5) When your phone is CID or SuperCID unlocked you can install any kind of rom of any language or manufacturor
(6) This enables your PC to control the Wizard using USB ActiveSync connection
Maybe there are some others that can correct me or fill me in.
Thanks Panja. This was useful as I am a Newbie too.
Thanks, guys. Appreciate it very much.
Looks like it helped someone else already too... great.

Tried a lot of stuff on Transformer too.
Now itz time for Samsung Focus , as my first Windows Phone Device.
I have read countless articles on this forum but still have a few doubts remaining.
1) Can the 8107 Mango bootloader be replaced with MAGLDR or it will screw up the device ?
2) Is it ok to flash MAGLDR & Custom ROM with an external MicroSD card inside ?
3) I cant find anything to backup stock rom and bootloader & restore it back in case if the device is burned. I found 1 or 2 but some report that restore isnt working. Can ny1 help me out with this.
Lastly the phone is on its way to my place so I dont know if it is a 1.3 or 1.4
But i need to get the above questions cleared as I have my xams running and can only giv 1hour fr the unlocking stuff. So just want to clear all the doubts before the phone arrives.
Thanks a lot guyz !!!
*BUMP* Please Help me ASAP Guyz....
That's because when you flash MAGLDR/custom roms, you do it on your own and accept the risks.
And yes, you might not be able to restore. In theory, you should be able to restore after flashing back a stock ROM, but I for one haven't tested/verified that.
Remember, all these are on your own risk

No it won't.SIM unlocks are not written on the rom or firmware. So it can't be erased by flashing.

I have to redirect that to my sig:
"Before asking questions, please read the Samsung Focus wiki and search the forums!"
Quote from the wiki:
Formatting, Flashing, upgrading, downgrading OS and firwmare doesn't affect Network lock (SIM lock).
Locks are in NVRAM - you do not overwrite this section by flashing firmware or formatting.
If the device is already SIM unlocked, flashing/updating/downgrading/formatting/etc the ROM will keep the phone unlocked.
Thanx a lot for all the help will flash tango tnite
Hoping not to brick my newly acquired device
Installed MAGLDR
Installed CleanROM !!
Profit!!
