I can't boot my XDA because I b0rked the radio stack upgrade.. So it just hangs at the O2 bubbles... and when I go to the bootloader I get GSM error. I can flash write new ROMs no problem - but I still get the same problem... Is it possible to "Flash Write" a RSU?
Thanks.
After further investigation - it would appear it's not possible to flash write a radio stack. I've totally killed my XDA
I think a guy on the forum from canada can do something with dead xda, he programs the chip directly "jtag"? Look around the forum because I cannot remember his name.
Did a search for JTAG... http://xda-developers.com/jtag/
Looks scary

THis is new to me... where did you find this information?
I am in the same boat, but I believe we could flash the GSM ROM from a SD card. I have been looking for some information to do this ..
Just now, I borrowed another xda in order to back up the working GSm ROM to my SD card. However, it turned out that the Wallaby was a 5.17. After patching it , the GSM ROM to SD (bacup) "menu" was gone.
I believe we could flash the GSM ROM, because in the bootloaders, there is always a menu for GSM ROM to SD backup.
However, this is only my personal observation. I was hoping if our XDAdevelopers could shed some light and give us some advice in this matter. It's been a really sad XMas for me because of all these 'excitements'.
If someone could post a GSm ROM (in my case an 900/1800) and perhaps also give us a method how to 'write' it to a SD RAM. THat would be really cool!!
I still have the Write GSM on my XDA... but the option seems to require a special piece of software.. It asks you to connect the "R2284 cable" or something similar, and to start the "PC Monitor" software... It doesn't just write it to the SD card as it suggests
Ross: many thanks for your information.
Hmm.. in my case, it won't be easy to buy or find a serial cable. D
If anyone knows how to get this serial cable in Bangkok, please kindly let me know.
Let's hope our XDA developers and other friends in this great forum would give us some other idea to get around this..

There's something about these Radio Stack Upgrades that's not right. We see many messages a week from people upgrading their Radios and being left with non-functional units. We advise against upgrading the Radio Stack unless you're upgrading with a version that's fixing some known issue that is affecting you. In other words: if your GSM works, we presently advise against fixing it.
If i run the exe that has beed kindly created is there any chance of screwing up my device again!...

The OS ROM on the other hand is much harder to screw up (although we managed, but only once, and for reasons of our own stupidity). You should be safe running Jeff's exe, and you'll be happy afterwards...
GSM Rom upgrade OOPS!

It seems to me that there are more than a few who have made the GSM rom upgrade oops. Someone should be kind and make a dump of their GSM for us foolish saps who made that poor call and found this information afterwords. I have found ways to bypass the GSM startup if you get stuck in the never ending "Updating Rom" and "Error, unable to update" horror!

Ok, figured out my own solution to this problem, without needing to send it in to T-Mobile!
1) Here is what you do, you go to ATT's site and download their upgrade for their SX56.
(if you have an ATT XDA already you can skip this step)
2) run the up date than let it error out saying you don't have the right rom version or what ever.
3) Go into your "Program Files" directory and than "SX56 upgrade utility" directory.
4) Copy "adaptRom.exe" and "Start.bat" from the "XDA-developers-SER-v11.exe" file into this directory and run start
5) Run "upgrade.exe" now and it should install fine and install an american GSM and ATT's OS.
Works great I must admit!
Note: If you want to keep T-Mobile's OS, get "XDArit.exe" and back up the CE os as they instruct on their page for it. Than after you've done the above installation, simply copy the OS back over.
Re: GSM Rom upgrade OOPS!
I've got all the files you mention, and am ready to change my T-Mobile PPCPE to an ATT device. I've already cancelled T-Mobile service, and signed up with ATT, so I have a working ATT SIM card. During the procedure you outline, do I just leave the SIM card out, then after upgrade is finished, install ATT SIM card? just checking - Thanks in advance.

hi,
i have just downloaded the radio stack from O2 v4.21. I have tried to upgrade through active sync 3.71 it upgraded ok, but when i went to restart the XDA it gets stuck on the boot screen. the one that says test not for resale... and at the bottom right hand corner its says A.30.07 and then locks up.
normally before i tried to upgrade it said A.30.07 the underneath it said 4.20...
anybody know what i need to do to correct it?? i have looked through loads of forum posts and now i'am really confused???
Thanks alot
Zetex :?:
a bit of further info my Bootloader on my xda1 is 5.22
I'am also willing to pay for help i recieve to get my xda up and running again, because without it i really i'am stuck. I don't just use it as i gadget i use for everyday work/pleasure...
Thanks alot
Zetex
can anybody help me????
Hi,
No experts or semi-experts seem to be offering any help. I consider myself a fairly experienced novice so I am not sure how useful (or safe) my advice is. Take care! But here are my observations..........
You say the upgrade went OK? Does this mean you got as far as the message Flash Complete! Press OK to restart your device?
If so, this is encouraging as most of the problems I've located on this forum stopped part way through the upgrade (many at 1%).
Did you follow the instructions accompanying the upgrade to the letter? (ie. kill all running programs, switch off phone etc.)
The 4.21 upgrade is for the PW10A1 model not the PW10B1 (check the back of your xda's case to find out). Not sure how you deal with this one if yours is a PW10B1.
Can you enter bootloader mode? (soft reset with the stylus while holding the power button). If so, this is also good news. Someone with more experience than me could probably tell you what to do next. (Possibly flash a new ROM using the SD card method. Although you upgraded the Radio Stack it may have corrupted or upset your Radio Unit/'ROM'. If you decide to do this, I suggest something based on the v3.17 such as the XDA developers special edition ROM ..... you can always upgrade to WM2003 again later.).
Good Luck!

cranny,
Thanks alot for the reply m8, I did try what you have suggested by reloading the 3.17 o2 rom via sd card and now it won't even switch on anymore.
not to worry its gone off to the xda repaire center in Norwich today for repair under warranty.
Thanks for the reply anyway m8

Looking for the latest T-Mobile official rom and radio stack right now.
Going to flash it using the SD method with the T-Mobile official rom from Lumpistefan's kitchen

It is a sad fact that many gsm errors render the xda useless as a phone, it maybe that you have now only a pda.
it is truly sad.. i tried to test 1 board of xda to my xda yet its a failure . i need a board w/ a good condition. this is the only easiest solution to this problem, changing board. No one here i think can help to have a software recovery. how sad! :-(
hope WE CAN SOLVE this ISSUE ASAP... to help many XDA users with dead phone.
I fix all problems!
if you can try to help us
no one here can really solved this kind of problem i think thru software recovery..cgigate have a hardware solution but u need to send the unit to him. His in the other side of my world..tsk tsk tsk

I've tried a lot of roms, rsu's, with and without sim card. No success. I also wait for a hardware solution with european location...
hi all this is my first post so please bear with me if i sound stupid.
I am the owner of an XDA stellar and thought it would be a good idea to buy another XDA as a spare. I liked the features of the XDA mini s so i bought a used one as it was faulty and thought it could be a software problem. i have tried different roms on it but still getting the sae message. Have read some posts on here for different phones and some of these have been fixed from this error, was wondering how i can do this model? I have found out from the forums that tis is the G3 model all details are IPL 1.01 SPL 1.05 GSM 01.12.10 OS 1.5.4.2 Could you please help and save this phone from becoming just a PDA. thank you all jamie
???????????????
Was Just looking through these forums and i have gathered it may have something to do with the radio rom could i be right ????
lol sorry when i got the phone everything is working except the actual phone part with or without sim card inserted i get the message which says says "Invalid or Missing SIM card" from what i can gather reading the forums on here this is a software problem which can be fixed but i dont know much about the software on these phones except how to install roms etc.
