Hi All !
I have AT&T SX56 (PW10B1) (900/1900) with ROM 4.00.16 and RS A20.10 . But the signal strength is much lower then with ROM 3.17.03 .
What is the best RadioStack ?
Thanks
Its a known fact that your signal strength will appear much lower under WM2003 then Pocket PC 2002, so don't be to concerned about that!
With that said A.20.10 is my radio stack of choice, but it all depends on your area and the network your using (AT&T / T-Mobile).
BTW I'm on the T-Mobile network Las Vegas, NV.

Thanks Qman !

I have the Tmobile version of the XDA. I removed the SIM lock and am now on AT&T Wireless.
My XDA has ROM version 3.14.40 ENG, ROM date 11/26/02, Radio version 6.18, Protocol version 324e4.
No matter where I am, how strong or weak the signal seems to be, I am unable to get more than about 11kbit / second (measured using bytecounter)
I was kinda expecting more.......
I have now tried both radio stacks in my ATTWS SX-56. I am on ATTWS service so this may make a difference and those that have TMO as their service provider may have a different experience.
The TMO stack does not keep the GPRS connection anywhere near as well as the ATTWS stack. It drops the connection quite frequently. Also, the signal strength is far lower and it tends to hunt for a signal that the ATTWS stack finds easily. Others can post their experience so that those considering changing their radio stack can make an intelligent decision.
Yes I believe the service makes a difference!
I'm on T-Mobile and my signal strength/GPRS connection is a lot better than it was with the AT&T radio stack. But I'm pretty sure the newer ROM has a lot to do with too.
Note: One should remove/disable both the T-Mobile Today Plug-in and the battery monitor, that should improve your performance.
Why would removing these help? Are ther particular files that are required to be deleted or is it just a registry entry?
I previously had the AT&T radio stack installed with 4.00.01 and later 4.00.05 WM2003PE on the T-Mobile network. It worked well, but occassionally the GPRS connection would remain dormant following a voice call. It appeared to remain connected, but would not send or receive data. I have since upgraded to the TMo 6.24 radio stack and 4.00.10 WM2003. My voice reception seems marginally better, as does the GPRS data speed, but the greatest improvement is that the GPRS connection seems more stable and becomes active again following voice connections.

All,
Recently upgrade to WM2003 Using Jeff's Kitchen - As reported by other posts, the Signal display is poor to erratic although actual reception seems good. Has anyone resolved this irritating issue by identifying a newer European RSU version or are we all waiting for the XDA II Radio versions update?. I tried the new WM2003 US versions to no avail as they seem to only poll the 1900 Network and GSM 900/1800 option in the Bootloader only hard resets the device. Hence a downgrade back to the 4.21.
Thanks - please advise

I'm using ATT's Radiostack and wm2003 with my T-Mobile and having no problems. In fact, I've never had a clearer tone and no problems with reception. Granted the signal indicator is falty....
If I keep T-Mobile's stack however I get a lot of noise and chatter in the background. (USA, Michigan region)
Just upgraded to ATT's Radiostack from T-mobile 6.24, and noticed, that this radiostack do not show me provider name. I see only "home service" in this corner.
Any suggestions ?
K_Dima,
This is the reason why I downgraded to 4.21. The home service does not even have an Icon for GPRS availability - which is a tad annoying. Anyway the reason for the original post is the signal indicator problem with WM2003/RS 4.21 - The Indicator light flashes fine to say there is a signal but alas the signal indicator shows Zero bars.
Thanks
Al

T-mobile V6.24 is buggy radio stack!
it cannot display non-T-mobile network correctly.
I'm in Canada, every time I search or log on my local GSM network (Microcell-FIDO or Rogers). it tells my I'm on T-mobile network.
it is best to download (v6.18 or 6.08 ) or move to AT&T radio stack (A20) to resolve all problems

latest Stack, that works fine, but don't show Network Name as was on T-Mobile Stack.

Go to phone setting, try to manual search network to see if you could find and display correct network. Although it is not matter.

Anybody can tell me where I can get thouse becouse I'm swithcing from T-Mobile and woudl like to have AT&T OS and radio stack. My phone is unlocked already.
Thanks,
G
before you switch to AT&T be advised that your phone does NOT support 850mhz bandwith which AT&T is migrating their network to. You will have very poor coverage with this device on their network and incrimentally worse covergae. Just an FYI I think you'll find yourself having a very bad experience with a 1900mhz device on their network. On the other hand you will have a rummoured better experience with an 850mhz device. Anyway both the ROM and Radio package is on the siemens website here http://www.siemens-mobile.com/MySie...C%2FMC%2FSX56POCKETPCPHONE%2Fdanda%2F,00.html

I recently got a locked SX56 loaded with the 2003 ROM. To unlock it, I flashed it with the SER and it's working fine now. But I'd like to go back to the 2003 ROM yet keep my phone unlocked.
Before flashing I had backed up the 2003 ROM using XDATools, can i reflash that image into the sx56? Would this keep my phone unlocked? OR do I need to download the 2003 ROM from the Siemens website (really do not want to dl 18 mb!).
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks
Omi
You can reflash your backup version. The phone will be unlocked after upfrading...

not able to change bands
Thanks LumpiStefan for your reply, I hope you could also help me with another problem that I'm facing with my XDA.
After changing to the SER, I wanted to switch bands also to 900/1800 but when the I start the band selector tool it gives an ERROR everytime and I'm not able to change bands. It works fine with the operators on 900Mhz but unfortunatley the operator who provides at 1800Mhz is much cheaper and also provides cheap GPRS services here. I'd really like to try the phone on 1800Mhz to see if it would be possible to use the phone with that operator.
Would changing to WM2003 help me change bands easier?
Thanks
Omitav
It all depends on the device type ... only PW10A devices work with 900/1800 (check the rear sticker) ... also the RSU must be suitable for 900/1800 or you may endup killing the device!
Hi Biso007
I've read in the forum that several ppl have changed bands in their PW10Bs and been able to receive 1800 operators (altough the signal strength was usually bad). I wanted to try that out.
How do I find out if my RSU supports 1800 Mhz?
The device info mentions that my Radio is A.33.02, can (and should this) be upgraded?
Thanks for your help.
Omi
I think you mean that some B devices worked on 1800 operator network and this can be true if the operator supports 900 as well (usually they are) and that's exactly my case.
I don't think B device with 900/1900 RSU like yours can work on pure 1800 MHz network ... or what is the need for the expensive tri-band XDA II then
Right, I got it
Yep, mine works fine with the first 3 operators in the state (since they're all on 900). It only won't work with the 4th operator (hutch) as they're on 1800.
Can't have everything I guess :-(
Hutch provides really affordable GPRS, gonna miss that. The other operator provides GPRS at exhorbitant rates, will have to wait until some operator gives at a cheaper rate.
BTW, where r u located in India ?
Omi
