I downloaded ROM form york.net did XDA OS tool to Card just like I did for 4.00.11, but this time when SD booting Image I got "complete CheckSum NOT OK!" cold boot only puts you to splash screen and does nothing. Now what? Is there a way to use OS image tool to write new ROM image through bootloader USB mode, or something? Just thinking out loud.
p.s. forgot to mention I'm running windows 98 so using a SD card reader is not an option, unfortunatly already tried that does not see the Reader as a disk.
hi
i had the same problem last week when i upgraged a friend's xda from 3.14 to 4.16 (cooked on yorch's kitchen).
i used an old image that i had cooked on jeff's kitchen and the device came back to life; i suggest you download a "naked" rom image from somewhere and copy the nb1 or nbf file to your sd card (use xdatools) and flash; it should work.
good luck.
Same thing happend to me
I just took the original ROM from my original backup and it returned everything to normal.
I will admit though it was a bit scary for awhile!!
God I love this forum!

Hi everybody,
after trashing one SX56 when trying to upgrade using the ATT provided .exe file (from Siemens), I am thinking of upgrading my replacement SX56 with only the PDA part using the NK.NBF after unzipping. But before I start, I wanted to make sure that I have a guaranteed fail-back with bootloading the 2002 image using the SD card if anything goes wrong.
Has anybody done this successfully?
FYI: My first attempt results in either a white screen when going back to 2002, or a working WM2003 with no radio stack. Running RSUpgrade fails after 1% and asks for reboot, fails after 1% ...
Thanks in advance!
Joerg
If you do an sd card backup through the bootloader on your xda you can always go back, remember though that the sd card will then be in a special format, any further writes to the card by saving files etc will render the backup useless.
I tried the SD Card Method of Flashing the unit, I used XDARit to write the nk.nb1 to the SD card, after the flashing has completed, there will be an error or CheckSum Error, and doing a reset will just bring me to the bootloader.
Pls. help. Thanks.
Xdatools superceded xdarit, download another rom, use xdatools to write it to sd and try again.
I have tried cooking rom at yorch.net and lumpistefan, but still the same problem exists. where could I get a more reliable rom so as to let my machine work nomally again?
There is nothing wrong with the roms on those sites, there are hundreds if not thousands of people using them.
I tried to download, and Xdatools says Incorrect File size, and sometimes, even though the Xdatools writes them to the SD Card, after flash writing, checksum error still shows up.
I am building those roms as Nk.nb1, for SD card flashing. This is the correct procedure right?
I don't know why this unit shows up checksum error.
The file you download from the site is in zip format, right click on the downloaded file and unzip it, it ill then work correctly.
crusin-thru,
thanks for the assistance. At first, I was using the Xdatools' Osimage tool, at about only 59 seconds, writing to the SD card was done. But it always fails as checksum error.
So I tried Xdarit 1.0, and this solved the problem, though it takes about 15 minutes to write. but it worked succesfully.

Hi everyone,
am deperately needing your advice!!!
Just yesterday I rechieved an exchange mdac from tmobile showing serial version v1.02 when put in bootloader mode(previously v1.01).
When trying to flash whatever rom once transferred via ntrw to my sd card, my mdac does simply nothing but stay in bootloader showing serial v1.02. No flashing like in my old one starts.
On removing the sd card it comes out freshly formatted, before it definately was formatted with raw as usual once working with ntrw.
Result : I can not upgrade my system to mksbigstorage or any other rom like i could with my" old one". (same sd card!!!)
Tried downgrading to an older rom version via original upgrade routine and from there flashing via sd card: same problem!, tried other sd card: no solution either!
Any ideas, solutions, people with the same problems?
:?:
Appreciate your help
Thanx
romflashing
Seems to have nothing to do with flashing routine.
Card simply gets formatted once inserted.
Any way to stop this?
Hi! I have had many problems after flashing and re-flashing my rom.
Try boot loader mode and USB then execute (from your PC)MaupgradeUT_noid with a Shipped_rom on XDA ftp. It may work.
Have a look at this link: http://www.mtekk.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?p=32876

Try to write SD card with winhex not ntrw. Simply choose open disc feature and write file directly do SD it works every time for me (with ntrw it was roulette). I have 1.02 bootloader
Thanks Shamus but can you explain in details how do you do this with Winhex? my bootloader is 1.00
SPV_M500, ROM 1.12.02 FRE
RADIO 1.12.10
EXTRom no more
Okay, here goes.
I own an XDA PW10A1 with the following details:
ROM version: 3.20.06 ENG
ROM date: 07/03/03
Radio version: 4.21.01
Protocol version: 32S54
Bootloader: v6.22
A couple of years ago I flashed a ROM to my other XDA which I later had to send in for repair (the screen broke), and when I got it back, it was a completely different device, but with the same ROM version etc. that I've specified above.
After a year or two with the stock standard ROM on my replaced XDA I'd like to put a different ROM onto it, but I remember how difficult it was back then. I actually flashed it with a T-Mobile ROM, which I discovered wasn't the best move to make in flashing ROMs. Anyway, I have now a formatted 256Mb Kingston SD card which I know is working, and when I go into the Flash Tools on my XDA I see the following options:
+ CE ROM to SD
+ Boot to SD
+ CE + Boot to SD
+ GSM ROM to SD
When I select any of the above options, I receive the following error message "Card Key Invalid. Press Action key to exit."
Via XDATools, I've performed what appears to be a successul backup to the SD card (which took around 40 minutes) using the following settings:
+ Source: Device memory (current ROM)
+ Destination: XDA SD Card Slot - unknown size
I want to ensure that I can copy a new ROM image onto my SD card, and then perform the ROM upgrade using the XDA Flash Tools. Does anyone know if I'm able to do this if I'm receiving the "Card Key Invalid" error message, or am I just being over-cautious?
Thanks,
not sure what the error mean never seen it before
but when you enter the bootloader with a valid rom on the SD
you dont have to pick anything or click or choose it just start
updating

Yes, I'm pretty sure that I can put the valid ROM on the SD card and then update from there, it's just that I wanted to backup my current ROM before putting the updated ROM onto my XDA - I don't want to end up in the same situation that I did a couple of years ago!
The problem is, I'm trying to cook a ROM on Lumpi's kitchen with the "Installer EXE" unchecked, and it fails everytime (ROM creation error). Having the tick-box enabled allows the ROM to be built, but I want a non-EXE ROM for the SD card method - is that right?
Thanks,
change the exe to zip and copy the nbf files out
