Orange M1000 or O2 XDAII any advice recommended????

Can anyone provide any advice. I already own an O2 XDA1 unlocked running on TMobile. I want to upgrade to a new phone but can't make my mind up between the Orange M1000 or the O2 XDAII. I realise that under the covers they are both the same phone and I suppose network coverage may vary. Is there any advice on what is the better option O2 or Orange? Is there any major differences on the ROMs of each phone. I think the Orange phone comes with a spare battery, different fascia etc. I was wondering if O2 or Orange have any differences when it comes to add ons upgrades, additional extras etc. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks John
I've got the M1000 and am very happy with it. It came with a spare battery, case and wired handsfree. You can get it for about £100 in Orange shops just now but be quick, this is almost certainly due to the imminent release of the M2000.
Orange coverage is good and Orange will match any competitors tarrif. You can trade in any old handset instore and get £50 back as well as get a friend to recomend you and get another £50 (if you don't know anyone on Orange I'll give you my number quite happily).
Basically I'm a very happpy Orange customer, so is my girlfriend and much of my family.
our company has around 30 M1000's ,
there no better/worse off than the o2 xdaII, its upto you really on the tarrif that would be best for you, but nothing really different between the models,
what tarrif are most of your friends/family/work on etc,
we were close to going with o2 but orange offered us all the m1000's fir free in a 2year contract so we couldnt complain with that,
just have a big long chat with the operators and see how much discounts you can get off em
regards,
Thanks Guys what about surfing the net etc is this included in your monthly tariff. Is it expensive to do this ?
Thanks John

were on a business tarrif that includes about 8MB of data (we use exchange activesync and a signature capture webservice)
my own personal tarrif is around 30/month, 200 minutes anytime/anynetwork, 4mb gprs, 500txt msgs, its never been over 30 so im happy with that.
Hi DJRM can you explain your personnel tarif to me. I realise what 200 anytime/anynetwork is and 500 txt msgs but not sure is 30 a month 30GB and why the 4MB gprs. I don't really understand/know about this side of things and did this come with the tariff as this looks pretty expensive??
Thanks John

sorry,
£30 per month inc VAT for 4MB of gprs / 200minutes & 500txt.
it was a tarrif/deal that i have used for almost 2 years, talk to orange personnally and explain exaclty what you need and how much you would expect to pay for it and you might get lucky.
the reason for my gprs is i use this to connect to our companys exchange server, unless your using activesyn then i doubt you would need this much.
i wouldnt say its expensove, i know people with worse of tarrifs that are alot more expensive and even some pay as you talk users who spend more a month!,
again it depends on how much you use your fun and what the primary function you use (eg txt more than voice)
Thanks DJRM I'll see what I can do. But lucky if I spend a tenner a month on calls and send about 25-30 txts. I'll see what deals I can get. Thanks again John

Will XDA Exec work with tmobile web n walk? tmobile say it wont..

Hi All,
I've just been on to tmobile about getting one of there unlimited internet access jobbies for £15/m.. all sounded great then I mentioned it was an o2 xda handset I was planning on using and they informed me that it wouldn't work.. I said well I'm sure I could just flash the mda rom onto it and it would run and they replied with "Voice and texts will work fine but the internet access will definately not work on a htc handset that that originated from o2" Then she said something about the internet settings are not compatible between the two phones..
Surely this is incorrect??
If anyone can shed any light on this please do! (or if you know of any better deals!)
mate it will work if you enable the tmob rom but i doubt it can work as a 02 for texts and calls & as tmob for web,
maybe your answer is flash rom and twin sim holder so you can flip between the two
as long as the Exec is (sim) unlocked, no problem. In fact, I'm using exactly that setup, with the current O2 ROM. You just need to change the GPRS/UMTS settings to
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk
and iirc, username, password and domain all blank. If you have any problems, PM me or post here.

My Uni is o2 Exec too, now with T-Mob sim and working on Web'n'Walk fine.
I belive that if your o2 Exec was baught from o2 on line then it arrived unlocked (as mine did); if bought from high street o2, it came sim locked.
Mav
I've had three online (all o2 online business shop), all unlocked. Also, the early high street-bought units were, iirc, unlocked too.
Hmm .. Uh Oh.. Is there anyway to check? I don't have another sim card I can try in it.. Mine was high street bought but it was one of the early ones (or so I believe.. Jan 2006).
Ignore that last post, just done some searching and spotted the unlock tool created by buzz and the team.. great work guys
Is T-Mobile really offering unlimited internet for the total sum of £15 per month? I've had a look on their website and I can't find this offer! Could someone post the link for this offer, sounds too good to be true!
I'm also quite sure I could have been totally oblivious to this offer, so apologies for asking a very obvious question!
Hi there! this offer isn't on there site. I called them and asked what they could do for me ..
sim card only
monthly contract rather than yearly (only tied to 1month each time)
unlimited data (fair use of 3gb/month)
50mins anytime
not bad eh!

I have an o2 xda exec which I bought on Ebay slightly second hand and I am using it on tmobile with a prepay tarrif. All I needed to do was put in the correct settings which I got from here
http://www.manuals.t-mobile.co.uk/start.asp?manual=1217
Just go to the GPRS 3g topic in the 'choose subject box' and they take you through it step by step.
On the prepay tarrif, I get charged a pound for any day when I connect, but there is supposedly no limit during that day. It works great, but maybe I'd be better off at a £15 month tarrif if that's available.
By the way, can I just let people know of this link to google search which reformats all pages for the PDA. It makes a very useful portal:
www.google.com/xhtml
If you don't want to search, but want the pages reformatted for your pda try this one which also works pretty well.
www.google.com/gwt/n?q=
The above url will present you with a box to enter the url you want to visit. After that, all pages will be formatted without frames and made suitable for your screen.

Thanks for your reply! Sounds like a great deal! What number did you ring, and any special tricks for getting them to offer you that deal?
Cheers,
No tricks to get it matey just call them on the number on the website. Cant remember what the number is now and the paper I wrote it on is on my desk in the office. Just ask for the following:
Sim Only, Web and walk unlimited internet tarrif thingy. Make sure they dont try and tie you to a 12 month contract as this is a sim only deal with NO PHONE and thats why its so cheap. Best thing about the deal is that its month to month.. so if you decide you don't want it anymore or they change the terms and conditions you can cancel with no 12 month contract to pay off

Cheers for the info evilv! that will come in handy.. especially the google web reform jobby!
Just to add to this lot, I tried a T Mobile PAYG sim in my O2 XDA-Exec and it works fine connecting to the net with full UMTS speed, max cost per day is £1 capped according to the chaps card we were messing with.
I have also used a contract T Mobile card in the device and simply works - No Sim Lock on the O2 XDA-Exec, so no messing around put the card in, configure the access names etc and away you go - Mike
Cheers mike, can't to get the tmobile simcard now!.. I'll actually have a use for my universal atlast!
o2 beats even that: unlimited data £10/month bolt on for pay monthly
not sure of the fair use limit. see my reply in thread 'best internet plan' or something like that for more details

That's new!
Only thing is, it'd be more expensive than WnW.
I'm on the £15 a month tariff too - it's actually £7.50 a month, minimum term of a month (not a year!) for 50 minutes each month, with the £7.50 unlimited data WnW add-on.
I use my data all the time and have never been pulled - Push Email, constant RSS feed updating, decent amount of pics on downloads, radio streaming, msn messenging, no limits for me.
you just need to request the sim only 30 day contract (can cancel anytime just give 30 day notice) which is £7.50 a month, then simply ass web n walk £7.50 a month, job done! completley normal tarriff no scams or deals

Not yet available on Orange UK

I've just tried Orange UK and been told it's not yet available and to try again this aftenoon. If anyone else is succesful with Orange please post on here as soon as you are able to order a Touch HD.

250m for £6 and a free phone. Or £500 for the phone, another mobile provider and cheaper data.
No i'm not too worried plus i have heard that there might be a better data option in the wings. Also i have the 250 bundle and never get near it.

What are you suggesting ?
Forgive me, I had heard that the 250mb data allowance only came into play if you signed up for a 24month contact (which seemed completely bonkers compared to other providers).
I'm personally tempted by expansys' offer of the 12month T-Mob contract @ £35p/m inc 1GB w&w, for £170ish... but now I'm not so sure. If I can get a similar contract with Orange, I'd happily go with them.
On mobiles.co.uk they have 1200 mins unlim txts on O2 for £32.50 after cashback for 18 months.
If you go through quidco.co.uk you can get £40 extra cashback too, and the Touch HD handset is free.
I believe with O2 you can have the unlimited web bolt on for free, or you might need to swap the unlim' txts for unlim' web.
Anyone have experience of O2 data usage policy?

stuff like bbc iplayer. if you were on the train, stuff like that would be a great thing to have on your phone but it'll rip through your 250meg in no time on a 3G/HSDPA.

Not quite sure how you got that on the 02 1200 package (or more likely my basic maths is failing me).
I thought it was £38.88 (£45p/m * 18mnts - £110cashback / 18month)
even with Quidco it only brings it down to £36.66 a month.
Plus with the absence of any definite literature confirming that you can swap your unlimited bolt-on, seems a bit of risk considering the price and length of the contract.

After spending 2 days solid on trains trying to use my TytnII for internet using GPRS (on T-Mobile), I'd suggest people think twice before buying a data package for this purpose. I was barely able to hold connections for more than a few minutes making browsing completely unusable - let alone using HSDPA for streaming (which isn't allowed under 02, Orange & T-Mobile's basic data tarrifs anyway).
That said, I haven't looked into using iPlayer to cache your TV content to take with you.... Is this possible?

'friad i dont have one. i've been with orange for quite a few years now and i've always managed to wangle something more from them each year. this year i am supposed to get a free handset (whichever one i choose). i am suspecting when the HD is available the droid at the end of the phone will want to charge me because he wont know i've been told this. so i'll have to kick up a fuss.

Cheap Sim for Mobile Internet in England?

Hi,
i'm travelling to London for a week.
Just checked how much it would cost with my current provider to make mobile internet connections, the roaming prices are horrendous..
Is there a way to get a cheap Sim with a mobile-internet package included, pre-paid?
Is it even possible for people from other coutries to get such cards in England?
Also, if there is a way, where do i get it and how much would it cost? Round about?
thx for any suggestions,
fooXeh
I know from o2
Will be ₤10 for sim + ₤7.50 for 500 mb of internet
sorry for lang
And do you think they will sell me the Simcard at a local o2 shop without any problems?
17,50 pound for a month seems reasonable.
Without any contracts?
Cannot find the option on the UK site of o2...
Anybody got details about that offer?
http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/Pay_and_Gothen click view details on the text and web dont know what they class as unlimited internet?
Other suggestion would be 3 PAYG. They may not post overseas but if you have a friend who can order you one and send it on, this may be the way to go. Their minimum top-up is £10 which gives you internet for 90 days per top up.

500mb and about 11000 texts PM "that's going on me checking and i topped up end of last month"
It's a good deal when for general use as you can top up £15 get above then get the 50min bolt on for £7.99 which suffices me.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I think in London i won't have problems with fast 3G connections, right?
I'll just visit a shop in the city.
What do you call "Top Up"? I don't really get how that works.

Should be fine for 3G i live in a little town and pretty much always HSDPA.
Regard topup you can pretty much use any news agents and just ask for O2 topup or whichever carrier u choose, they just provide a recipet that has the no. on, when u get sim u'll get a card to which can be used to top up just saves gettin the reciept with a no. on "havent got around to using mine as i'll only loose it" lol
Good luck on your travels

Just an update on tarrifs, on O2 you no longer need the £7.50 bolt on for browsing, they give you free browsing for the month (500MB) when you top up £10. Since they got exclusivity for the iPhone back in '07 they have EDGE coverage as well as HSDPA and GPRS.

[Q] Best UK PAYG Tariff

hi all. i want to see what the best tariffs are on payg. im currently on Text and Web on O2. i get unlimited texts when i top up £10. when i top up £15 or more, i get unlimited texts and unlimited internet. what tariffs are better than this? i have also heard about o2's new simplicity for payg... how does that work? thanksin advance
I work for O2 so I can give you good advice on this. All this information you need is on the O2 site and there is no other information for employees to use. Simplicity is a SIM only contract for 12 months, and is the only 12 month contract on O2.
http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/simplicity/12_months
You can find all the information here on the simplicity contract. For an extra £5/month (£15/month) you can get an inclusive bolt on with it, and extra minutes.
