help making serial cable from power adapter to unlock - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I have been reading through the posts and was wondering if anyone has made the serial cable to unlock from the small power adapter dongle thing! I have the serial connector and used pins 2,3,5 for rx, tx and ground (which i asume is all i need to unlock)but which pins would i use to connect these to in the power adapter thing. Would be so gratefull for any help. Also what does it mean to use bootloader.
thanks
Bod

I made the cable how i thought. when i use xd manipulator on my xp pc it just takes ages and then says it has stoped responding. I tried on my laptop running windows 98 and xd manipulator says found xda on com1 in boot mode but does not show anything else or go any further. Any ideas on this would be apreciated. I will unlock this thing!!!!!

Could someone please tell me if the cable only using rx tx and ground is correct for unlocking with xd manipulator or do i need a cable with all the wires connected as in a serial hotsync cable. Also if i use hyper terminal and put xda in bootloader mode i get all the inforation about the xda come up(processor and memory etc) but how do i enter dualser and the next command as i cant see anything on the screen. I have typed dualser but nothing happens. Thanks again.

just to let everyone know i have unlocked my xda using hyperaccess using the dualser command etc. My orange sim is working perfectly. Thanks to everyone for looking. I hope someone else can unlock this way. It was easy in the end

would u plz share, how did u unlock ur ppc.also give information about ur home brewed cable, did u use only rx tx gnd or all wires.

Finally unlocked!!! using serial made from cradle mod.

I finally managed to unlock my XDA, now I can truly say to be a proud XDA mobile owner in Italy! ;-)
[was "Serial cable using craddle: having problem with Manipulator"
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=633]
I was too excited to wait for the delivery of a serial cable from the States and I tried to use the cradle circuit (to open it you need a special screw driver to lift the 4 screw hidden underneath the 4 rubbers).
*** IF YOU ARE NOT AN EXPERT DON'T USE THIS SYSTEM ***
you could seriously damage the cradle circuit and XDA!! Not jocking....
I connected the wire of the 9pin rs232 to the beige connector on the cradle circuit as follow (please note that the connection of only the first 3 lines below didn't work for me):
[Con2 is the beige connector, pins are counted form the left facing it]
XDA-----Con2---RS232
2 (gnd)---1st--- 5(gnd)
8 (txd)---4th--- 2 (rxd)
10(rxd)---7th--- 3 (txd)
6(dcd)----2nd--- 4 (dtr)
7 (cts)----3rd----7 (rts)
9 (rts)----5th----8 (cts)
11(dtr)---8th----6 (dsr, dcd)
Note that the last connection really made the difference for me (thanks XDA Dev. Peter Poelman!!).
I experienced problems when using Manipulator with my Notebook, it was just sitting on "scanning" mode looking for the com port...
Using HyperTerminal I could receive from XDA but not able to send command.
I eventually tried Manipulator with my desktop PC and... GOT IT!!! The com port has been found in 4 second, and after having pressed on "unlock" I was UNLOCKED in less then 1 minute!!! Yippiieeeeee!
Still don't know if the problem was:
- XDA with low battery charge
- a false connection on the serial cable
- or a problem with my notebook
But this is not important anymore now ;-)
Thanks a lot to all XDA-Developers for the great job with Manipulator and for this great forum!
Hope this msg will make life easier also for some new XDA user.

You can have problems with rs-232 on laptops for the following reason.
a 'real' RS-232 voltages of 12v (+&-). Some laptops just procude 5V levels and if the other side stricktly implements RS232 it just will not work. To come back to your list: I doubt if it was the battery charge. You could argue wether it was a 'false connection' or a 'problem' with your notebook' but in a way the last two were right.
For RS232 the advice is always to first use it on a desktop system before using a laptop.
It's a great mod and thanks for the description.

@mav2
hi,
i have just unloked my ppc,was locked to T-mobile.
i have been strugling for 2days with the pin outs shown in page ''connecters''.i make 3cables with different pinout but does not work,
then i read ur post and thought,no harm to give it a try,,,,,and u know,,it works like a MAGIC .......good.
thanks and thanks again, for sharing ur experience.
and for the mods of this forum..plz put these correct and easy pinout on their page ,without getting involved in hassel ,for male or female connector.
any way i found this forum very helpful with very nice pplz.

Blue Angel Hyperterminal and Telnetl Via Bottom Connector

Hi there
Part of my job envolves monitoring data from various sensors, this involves booting my laptop, pluging it in, cause the battery fecked, hookin to the sensor, 3 seconds to check the data then pack it all away again.
I think I`ve found a Hyperterminal for ppc called vxhpc, looks like it has the right functions.
I have opened a plug that I have that connects to the bottom plug, and I can see 22 pins, but I dont know which one does what.
I`m after com1 wiring I think, it will mostly be RS232 signals that I`m monitoring.
The options in the software are:
Serial cable on com1
CAM1
IR Port
Com2 Serial on usb
there are a few more.
I assume serial on com1 is the obvious choice, but you guys and gals will know better than me.
So the pin outs of the bottom connector, and if anyone knows of a better software, that would be fanastic.
The telnet part, I also have some telnet software called Mini Telnet, Many of the systems I work on control ship engines and thruster, If i could connect to the engine managment system network via the XDA2S, I could, In theory, control the ships movement, and monitor the system aswell.
Unfortunatly, due to saftey reasons, all networks on ships are hardwired.
Is it possible to connect from the bottom plug to a network hub ?????
If so, do you know how ?
Thanks for all your help
All the best
Nikki
just noticed, the Wallaby and Himalaya have the same wiring, does this mean, chances are the blue angel is the same again ? maybe ??
okay, i have been investigating a wee bit, my findings so far, this is about the telnet side of things, if I`mwrong anywhere, please correct me.
Taken from the wiki site
5 ANALOG GND
6 RS232_DCD
7 RS232_CTS
8 RS232_TXD
9 RS232_RTS
10 RS232_RXD
11 RS232_DTR
So, RJ-45 to DB9 pc comport
rj 45 side -------------------XDA2s Side
1 DCD------------------------6 DCD
2 DSR------------------------?? DSR, i dont see this one on the list, is it important ?
3 DTR-------------------------11 DTR
4 SigGnd----------------------5 SigGnd, Plenty of these
5 TXD-------------------------10 RXD ???
6 RXD-------------------------8 TXD???do i have these the right way around ?
7 CTS-------------------------7 CTS
8 RTS-------------------------9 RTS
So, does this look about right ? and how important is the DSR signal, I`m unsure of it puropse.
Like I said, if you see anything wrong, at all, please post
cheers
nikki
If using com 1 make sure you have beams switched off in settings/connections, also disable any external keyboard driver if present as this too will take com 1.

Problems with Serial Cable and T-Mobile MDA

Hi, wonder if you can help..
I got my MDA into bootloader mode by pressing power + centre button + reset.
It comes up with serial on the screen and a version number 1.6
My serial cable i bought is meant for an xda or xda II which i also have, but the phones are practically identical, the MDA is a PH10A
The xda is a PH10C
when trying to detect the serial connection which is on COM 1 (not USB) nothing happens, ive also tried the XDA Manipulator program from this forum and that also will not work.
I want to upgrade my software but am stuck.
I do not know if the Serial connections are different for these 2 phones, or if i have missed something.
Is there any other programs i can use to access my MDA? or can anyone help me with this draining problem.... ????

Is there a hardware serial port anywhere?

Hi folks,
Does anyone know if the Uni has an accessible UART (hardware serial port) anywhere on the motherboard? I want to physically connect to a device that needs serial access. I'm happy with level-shifting from 3.3V to RS232, which I assume I'll need to do - just need ot know where there is a tx and rx pin that I can get to.
Cheers if you can help,
Johnny_G
Is there any progress after 7 years ? I need uart too, but maybe it`s impossible in universal?

[Q] [SOLVED] HP HW6915 usb cable pinout

Hi to you all! Please provide me a schematic of this type of cable. I ordered one from a site and it won't work. I'd like to try to upgrade to WM6.1 and I don't have a working cable. Please give me at least a pinout for this PDA. The one that's on pinouts.ru - I don't think it's good for this model.
Thanks a lot!
No answer yet? I got another USB cable from provider, which is also not good, even though it has "usb detect" and USB data + and USB data - pins present.. It just says " unrecognized usb device" please! I want to upgrade to Windows mobile 6.1, that's all I wanna do. thanks a lot to anybody who will answer.
Why do you think that there is something wrong with the cable?
It's quite possible that connector on iPAQ is bad.

Hi!
It turned out I was doing something wrong. The phone needed to be in bootloader mode so that the drivers provided into this forum to work properly. Thus, I can confirm that the schematics for IPAQ from pinouts.ru works just fine at least for the USB connection part. As for drivers, they are posted here in this forum.
I also attached an image with the response of that cmd command.
Thanx to You all!
Keyboard
