G7 shuts down by itself - Moto G7 Questions & Answers

Hi, and thanks for this forum.
I had this Moto G7 over 3 years now and its been perfect for an old bugger like myself and easy to operate... Love it. Problem I have now is, whenever I receive a notification of SMS, the Moto shuts down by itself, or sometimes if I am really quick, I can get to the SMS but the moment I click on it it will shut down and I have to restart the Moto, and this time I can read the SMS without it shutting down. Its no big deal if I dont get many SMS but I get about 5-10 a day and I seem to spend more time starting my phone again than actually reading the text lol. On rare occassion, and I mean really rare, it will allow me to rad without shutting down. Now I dont know a lot about these smart phones so please forgive me if I cant quite understand your instructions. Peace and thanks.
Oh... and if it cant be fixed.... which is the best new phone to get at low price (and old pensioner here with limited funds :-( I do love this Moto though so maybe te latest model is good?

God I hate my HD2

I'm sorry if theres been a million of these posts but i seriously regret buying one and now its too late to send it back because its taken me over a month to realise how bad it really is.
Now dont get me wrong, its an amazing piece of kit but its horribly let down by terrible software.
Main features rarely work, Everyone is aware of the LAGGY text problem the terrible text input software, the fact that it loses data connection all the time and has to be restarted to work again, When i come out of standby alot it doesn't work and the buttons light up and i have to take the battery out.
The phone is unresponsive and laggy alot to name but a few.
Its driving me insane, i want to get rid of it but i cant, i'd sell it on but my girlfriend dropped it and scratched it devaluing it and TBH, i'd feel bad selling it to someone knowing how bad it is.
send it back to htc for repair. that **** don't happen with mine!!!!

indeed, only had mine around a fortnight but i havent had any real issues with the phone...not even the camera bugs that were supposed to be wrong with it...all my texts go through straight away same with emails n what not
think these devices are very hit n miss you either get a decent one or a sucky one
appears you got the latter, send it to htc, tell them you want a working version of the phone!
Yeah, send it back to HTC for servicing, it sounds like a **** batch
Tell me this, did you get your phone expecting the best thing ever, and it sort of was until these problems came about but you thought you would hold out for a fix/fixes. Still waiting out you lost your patience and want something that simply WORKS?
I'd agree with what people are saying, sending it back because really, it shouldn't be so unusable. Give them a sharp angry tone, it might quicken up the fixes release for the rest of us!

lol - that could have been any number of things, couldn't it. The least likely is your phone!
Anyway, you do know that it doesn't send the text directly to the phone don't you? It doesn't mean it'll get there quicker if they're right next to each other

Like most of the people here I have not had a single problem with the device. I did however have to loosing connection but that was easily fixed because of a discrepancy between what the htc wizard set up as my internet connection and that which it really was. I'm on the dutch KPN network and instead of the portal being "portalmmm.nl" it should be "internet". No problem since.

yeah, i know, would expect an sms to be sent within 20minutes though!
was saying they're right next to eachother so i wasnt waiting for a reply from someone i would know exactly when the text came through.
i sent a text to my boss yesterday and i havent been sacked so im guess ing that one didnt go through either
Yeah well, When i say she dropped it, it was from 2ft and the phone would have been fine normally but it hit a stone with scratched it.
I had these problems before anyhow and i was waiting as someone said...for updates to fix it, there have been many updates with no fixes and any fixes i do get are user created ones!
I had an Iphone previously which worked fine and was a bit slow at times i didnt expect the HD2 to be the best thing ever but i expected it to be quicker than my iPhone, i couldnt foresee the problems the HD2 would have as ive had HTC's in the past with no problems and i rate the company very highly.
I'm just so dissapointed.
I got the mobile through Mobilephones direct with T-mobile contract, who do i get in contact with? Mobilephones direct? T-mobile or HTC?

Wow, I read about these experiences that people have and feel very lucky to have a rock solid HD2 in my hands...
To the OP: I presume you've hard reset the phone/installed newer ROMS?

Yeah man, factory reset's, updated the rom, tried all versions and still get same problems.
I'm another person who's had no problem with the device - and I am quite demanding. I have not made any changes to the device as delivered other than registry tweaks. I did run the HTC official quick-fixes, found they caused chaos and assiduously removed them all. All the software I've installed has been well-tried commercial stuff.
The only unusual thing I have to do is to disconnect data services before I go to bed, otherwise it won't sync with MyPhone...
i experience kinda the same problems, laggy texting or even no texting at all until restart, data connection dropping and again needing restart...
but still most of the times it works great, better than any previous phone i had. despite these little annoyances i still say i love my hd2 and wouldnt trade it for any iToy.
hd2 issue..tg01
i have the tg01 and i love it..i was having issue with the phone as well and discovered that if you install certain programs to the sd card it makes the phone laggy..and have to reboot....i had the spb shell 3.5 and i installed it on the sd card and it was laggy and the 3d accelerator didnt work..so i uninstalled and installed it on the phone and ...now the phone is very stable..havent had any issue...food for thought...

HD2 Factory Reset Itself!?

About 10 minutes ago, my HD2 froze up. If you pushed the standby button, the hardware buttons would light up then go out as soon as you released the standby button. The screen would not do anything and just stayed black.
I did a battery pull and when I put it back in, the phone attempted to start up thenfroze and restarted on It's own. I was then greeted by a FRESH install screen as if I had just flashed a new ROM and all my settings are gone. Has anyone ever had this happen before?
Happened to me about two weeks ago...just another one of the oddities of this phone.
That's it?
That's really a HUGE slap in the face from both HTC and T-Mobile to know I laid down some cash for this piece of hardware, not to mention we rack our brains tweaking and fine tuning EVERYTHING about these phones and now the phone can whipe itself at any given moment.
We all laid down money on this phone. If you people haven't already, I suggest you get a good back-up program and back-up often. I've had to hard reset twice after my HD2 refused to accept my password. First time I didn't have a back-up. Second time it was a minor 20 minute fix.
T-Mobile and HTC are working on a ROM update so give it time.
best news i heard all weeek

While I agree it is wise to regularly create backups, I think this is a poor solution for these sorts of issues.
People with a device of this calibur should not have them in the first place. Same story as verizon and the BB storm. Everyone is so hurry to get the latest and greatest on the market they put quantity before quality.
Well looks like it happened to me again. Just 30 min ago...as much as I love the phone...it freaking pisses me off that this sh!t keeps happening. One more time and I'm contacting TMo customer service for a new handset (doubt that would help though).
mine did it. wtf!
Owned the Euro and the TMOUS, and it never happened to either of them.
My wife's HD2 formatted the SD card without any input from her. Weird.
Lesson learned, back your **** up on a regular basis and have a back up of that back up somewhere else just in case. People rely way to much and electronics and think they will never break. I don't care how expensive or nice you think something is, it will break eventually. I deal with these types of people all the time who have super important info that they cannot loose but yet they don't back it up anywhere and freak out when they loose it.
HD2 Reset
This happend to me not more than a week ago. I love this phone to death and put some major tweaks into it to suit me and everything was gone. APPs that I have paid for are now requiring that I repurchase them or provide serial numbers for full versions of them. Man what a slap in the face this was.... then two nights ago I was in town and it pulled up some home screens I have never seen before, I have been through this phone thoroughly and still have yet to discover where these screens came from or how. I cannot get them to come up again but I was very impressed with the lay out and definition of them........
My hopes are that these ROM updates will come out soon and fix these issues, they are major killers for this amazing piece of technology!!!
flash problem
sorry my mistake
This happened to me right now too
I cannot believe this! Google threw this post as first result for my search. I did not notice any kind of strange behaviour in the past 2,5 years. (bought in Oct 2009) Only thing was (after about 1,5 years) that the internal battery have lost the set time and date, but that was not disturbing as I havent restarted the phone so often. Today Ive decided to restart it, and after the reboot ALL of my Sense settings are gone, the phone says that Co0kies Home Tab is not installed on my phone, so I do not have any proper home screen now. Although the memory card is recognized (photos and other data are not missing) and the internal memory of the phone is intact too (phone numbers, messages are available). I cannot believe that something like that could happen with a phone, for which I have spent a huge amount of money... This is REALLY sad, HTC! There is no ROM or any sw upgrade for the phone since about 1,5 years, and in the meantime HTC released at least 20-30 brand new phone models... This is where the profit has higher priority as to serve customers, and (I hope) that this will lead to a massive loss of trust against HTC from all of the customers. This has already happened to me...

It's been a fun ride...

It's been fun, but I'm saying good-bye to my HD2.
The lag and crashing issues aren't THAT bad (excluding the texting program) but it's just inconvenient. A phone shouldn't have any of these issues, right?? And its nice that you can try different ROMs to find better performance but you shouldn't have to search for an alternative such as that after receiving your $450 brand new phone (I regret paying the full retail price so bad. I shouldn't have bought into the hype).
And for those of you claiming to have ZERO problems with your stock TMOUS HD2's running default ROMs, I question what your definitions of "problem" and "inconvenience" are, along with your perception of lag and ability to notice it. But if our perception to lag and detail is the same and you actually don't have any problems then you are very lucky.
Things I love: Browsing, Sense minus texting, Screen, Office Mobile, Camera
Things I hate: Texting, crashes, drop of 3G (probably more of T-Mobile's fault), lack of Apps compared to the droid and apple platforms.
To be honest, if I didn't text so much, I'd probably keep the phone.
Once again, it's been fun and this forum has been VERY helpful in my quest to fix the phone. Everyone is nice and overall very well informed. Thanks!
-Alex
PS, if anyone has some secret solution to this problem(s) other than trying the latest 2.13 ROM from T-mobile (which I have already tried), I'd be willing to keep the phone!

have you updated to the latest rom? texting has greatly improved IMHO. that was also my major concern with this phone prior to the update.
I agree with you to a certain extent, Alex. But I am more of a tinkerer to find solutions to the problems. If there weren't ANY problems with the phone, I would get rid of it!!!!
As far as texting... have you tried Swype? I came from a hardware-keyboard phone myself, and hated trying to text with the onscreen keyboard. But after getting used to Swype, I can say that I am MUCH happier.
With all that said... I'll give you $100 for your phone!!!!
I'll go to 105.
Alex,
If you bought a car, and a few months later the manufacturer announces they have a modification they can do to the car that will address certain issues, including one that you're experiencing (let's assume something other than critical safety issues)....do you return the car, or let them apply the modification?
It's the same idea with the new tmo ROM...it's an official update that you should try, especially with your SMS issues. No product is perfect out of the gate, and an official update like this is the only real way for them to try to fix issues from the factory. If you like the phone other than those reasons you listed, it seems silly to walk away from it already without even giving that a try.
Sorry that I didn't make it clear but I'm running the 2.13 right now. Texting is a little better but still laggy. And I should probably give swype a try before writing it off. We will see. Thanks guys

Alex, what phone are you gonna switch to?
Software Vs. Hardware
I really don't have any major problems with anything on the stock rom. No lags or nothing. That being said, if I experienced any issues my first response would be to find out if its hardware or software related.
In my mind, you can solve every single software related issues and I really love the HD2 hardware so there is no way I will ever return mine just because I face some software issues. And this is the great thing about WM, you can actually tweak it to function the way you want.
I must say that this is not the phone for someone who wants it work out of the box. I mean it works but you really need to know what you are doing. Regarding the apps, WM has far more apps then any mobile os out there, you cannot just compare the marketplace apps. Its WM, you have to know what you are getting into before you buy a phone.

Ahhh gotcha, understood now, sorry.
Yes I would definitely give swype a try, once you use it, it's a whole different touch-typing experience.
The only other thing I'd ask is how often you clear out text messages on your phone? I think that 99% of the SMS freezing is due to too many text messages in the client at once. I clean mine out once a day at least, more if I'm texting a lot that day. I simply run a quick myphone backup to save them off-phone, and then I wipe out any threads I'm not currently conversing in (including clearing the deleted items folder). I never have any SMS freezing, even on the original (2.10) tmo ROM I'm still running.

I'm testing out swype. I don't like it for the moment but I think its just because I'm not used to it. Gonna keep messing with it. As for clearing messages, I try not to let mine exceed 50. I wish I never had SMS freezing. I had less freezing on Kumar's classic 1.6 though

Apps that are compatible with this phone's resolution? Apps that compare to the UI of other platforms? Games that are similar to one on the other platforms?
Until you can show me this, I will still consider WM phones to be a NON-app instensive platform. Yes, they have all the apps you could need to do anything with, but they don't have all the apps you WANT.

i want to get rid of my phone too, evo 4g is out and it puts this phone to shame.. the laggy texting ect..swype wont even help u.. and u can get swype for a lot of phones anyway.
I have to agree with you 100%, I am coming of of a Nokia E51 which for a three year old phone has more basic, logical features which I though every phone would have.
The sms lagg is horrible and I experience all the time, or the fact that we cant keep the hom page looking the way it does and turn off the active weather. It lags the crap out of th phone if u just go to move screens or find something and its showing you clouds for 19 seconds scrolling by..
you cannot uninstal the useless applications that came with it without whiping the entire phone.
The new update is fine and dandy, but It clears the whole phone, so eveyr thign I have installed and set i have to redo just to get an upgrade, totaly idiotic in my mind. If its a OS update, then it should only effect the OS backround files not reset the total system.
Backing up contact. Sims only store 250 contact. I have over 300 so I have many on my phone it self, to copy the entire phone book to memory card, i have to do it one by one. Yes I know I can instal an app for it, but should I really have to? thats should be a basic app. Syncing with your computer, requires you to have email set up in outlook, I dont use out look, so I have to go through all that troube just to get that done.
In my house, my nokia has full signal at all times, with this new bad boy phone i barly get one bar if I am lucky.
Just simple little things which should be an automacit features on phones are missing here. I dont get the thinking behind that.
To the person who did the car analogy. Would you buy a expensive car if you had to install the breaks you self after purchase.. Oh you want a rear veiw mirror? here is a mirror, and some glue go have fun? no you would not, you would expect all functions to be there.
The phone doesnt even allow you to control how you view your contacts for crying out loud, I had to D/L an app to set if i want to view first name/ last name, vs the default last name first name. That is just bad.
Out side of a big shiny screen that eats ur batery life in one day and the camera.. nothing special.
just my two cents
rysky007, I agree with you for the most part
Would you buy a car knowing that it does not come with certain features or does not perform the way you want it to? Or do you just buy any car expecting all of them to come with features just because a car of another brand had them? There is a reason why it's better to lease a BMW than buying it.
It seems like you're the average joe that bought into the hype not knowing what Windows Mobile is.
Don't come crying just because the phone was not what you expected it to be. Do your homework next time before making a purchase.

A better analogy is you are buying a stock BMW and expecting it to drive like a F1 race car. Fact is, you have to add certain available add-ons to make it into a M5-ish car with the type of race tires you want and the suspension your driving habits need.

Goodbye Galaxy S

I have finally sold my galaxy s i9000 today....
After about 3 weeks of using the device and having all the problems with the phone i decided to sell it.... although the decision was an easy one because it was easy to sell the phone at a profit since actually there are high demand for the phone and limited supply.... i guess most people still dont know about all the problems that this phone has.....
at my age, 36, i dont wish to spend too much time trying to fix the phone like applying rom, fixes, firmware etc.... i just want a smartphone that works well out of the box....
so after so many problems i experience using the phone i decided to sell it....
problems i faced:
- GPS very inaccurate and sometimes cannot lock signals and shows me in different country.... not to mention it cannot track continuously....
- Phone hangs when i am in a conversation and another caller comes in....
- quite frequent lags that sometimes can only be fixed by restarting the phone
- email apps takes long time to load the contents
- GSM signal quite erratic, phone must be held certain way to avoid drop in signals.... just like iphone 4 but maybe not as severe.... i am not sure....but it bothers me because i can see the signal dropping 2-3 bars when i hold it certain way
-keyboard which i just cannot get accustomed to, i dont know if its a problem of the touch screen sensor which is not precised or because of the size of the device that is a bit too wide....but the bottom line is that i find myself making lots of typing mistakes when using it one handedly
- overall samsung touchwiz quirks and the widgets are not to my liking....
- firmware fix update for my asia pacific region doesnt seem to come along fast enough... i only see one update which is the one thats giving me all the problems mentioned above..... but i see the european firmware gets update very frequently.....this makes me mad.... but the bad thing is that even the european updates seems to be still having most of the problems, especially the gps problem....
so after thinking thinking thinking... i sold it.... and i sold it after only 30 minutes of posting my advertisement in internet....
i just thought i'd share my experience......
youre the first people who dissapoint about this phone AFAIK
so how much did u sell this phone?just wanna know
I don't have any of those problems, neither do a lot of other people. Still on the stock ROM, no tweeking, nothing.
You should have asked for a replacement phone first before getting rid of it. By the looks of it there's a dodgy batch of them.
strange thing is we all want the best but its never good enough, I mean if any phone comes out and all is great people still want more and ways to better it, its human nature I guess and yes its a pain now and then but the strange thing is there is also a joy/kick out of things like roms, to get these small/big changes and play around with them, its true we can all say that it should come out and be 100% of what people paid for but......well never going to happen, and where would the fun be if it did lol
GPS I see people on about this, where I live it (north uk)tracks me from 20 meters to 2 meters (down to speed)

Are you saying you never experience *ANY* lag on your phone? This sounds very strange to me, as the lag problems seem to be an inherent problem of the phone's hardware/software architecture. I can hardly believe what you are saying, or maybe you have just not used your phone intensively enough. Otherwise me and a LOT of other GS users can get ready to return their phones for a replacement.
I can understand your frustration, widjaja. The lags are very annoying, and I myself have encountered times where I got an incoming call which I simply could not answer because the phone was too busy loading the friggin' call interface. It is however clear that Samsung themselves will come with an official fix for this, and in the meantime we have the homebrew fixes. For me, this is enough reason to stick with this phone until it is fully ridded of its problems. After all, apart from the buggy annoyances, it is the most powerful Android phone out there.

I have finally sold my galaxy s i9000 today....
After about 3 weeks of using the device and having all the problems with the phone i decided to sell it.... although the decision was an easy one because it was easy to sell the phone at a profit since actually there are high demand for the phone and limited supply.... i guess most people still dont know about all the problems that this phone has.....

hey there, sorry to hear that!
this isn't meant as a response but more as a general comment on the issues you faced to compare the asian/european version (i've got the european version).

my fix is immediately and as accurate as it can get with a civilian phone.
talked about the asian region gps issue with a friend yesterday and we suspected it might be something about gps being dimmed near north korea for military reasons but i guess that was just us crazy talking.

besides the lag already being discussed in another thread, i don't experience frequent lags. and even this so called lag is just a minor annoyance when compared to the performance of other android-devices or the iphone-series (at least the couple devices i got ahold of in the last years).

i can hold my phone any way i want and have the same reception as other phones in the same area (elevator = little to no reception, top of building = great reception, subway = flaky/depends if underground/overground, etc) and with all other phones i had before.

the touchscreen sensor is perfectly calibrated and the swype-keyboard (is this the one your talking about?) is the best thing invented since touchscreens were invented. the tutorial takes 4 minutes to go through and i never want to go back now. this isn't just a productivity enhancement this is the path from "oh **** i have to answer this mail with my crappy phone keyboard" and "yeah let's write the last couple of mails on the subway then i'm home earlier".
or something like that..

well there's literally hundreds of widgets to choose from and although i know you want it to work out of the box that's something you need to do for yourself as samsung can't do it right for everybody.
i'm not a huge touchwiz fan myself but it does the job (protip: LauncherPro, search for it in the market if you haven't already heard about it).

well i'm feeling you especially with the new firmware seemingly creating more problems than it solves. but when comparing the release date of the phone with the release date of the new firmware my assessment is that samsung is on the fast side with this one. but i'm not very experienced with the company so maybe i'm just a lucky samsung-beginner
there is no official european update yet, hopefully in the coming days/weeks.
and as mentioned before i don't have the slightest issue with gps.

EDIT
Samsung Galaxy S, European version, Android 2.1-update1 vanilla, non-rooted, LauncherPro
lemme guess... your gonna buy an iPhone 4? LOL
like most ppl on these sorts of threads say, most of us have had NO problems, mayb a few stalls 5-10 secs on apps.
your 36 and expect a device with this spec to be perfect.
if you want something that performs out of the box perfectly, get a nokia that only makes calls mate.
to be honest if you dont even know you can change touchwiz just by downloading an app you shouldnt have a smartphone anyway
I smell troll
Sorry to hear that. Although at times, I've felt like sending mine back when the GPS wigs out, but the rest of the phone is better than anything else out there, so I'm sitting tight and hoping/waiting for a fix.
just curious - are you in a rural area or in the city?
and with earlier phone(s) did you have strong 3G signal?

No disrespect to OP but... yea
No phone is perfect thats a fact. I have minor issues with my Galaxy S but there are ways around them, i know you said you didnt want to mess around with it but why did you buy an open source device with huge custom ability. I love the fact theres alternative for everything, i have custom keyboards, custom home screens, gmail email app of which i have 0 problems with the gmail account, everything loads in an instant.
I dont use GPS so i can't comment but i would have recommended a factory reset if you had these problems from day 1. it fixed a lot of peoples minor quirks.
I do get a little lag here and there but its bareable until an update comes out and from what ive been reading about the unofficial firmwares they are speeding up considerably.
wow if the SGS i9000 is bad for the OP, then he should never buy a Windows Mobile nor iphone based device as those are even more horrible. (that's exactly the reason why i moved to Android phones)
it'll probably make sense to just go back and use a normal 9 buttons cell phone to avoid any problem at all, then you'll have a cell phone that is good at what it does and not a multi purpose entertainment device with a build in cell phone.

Email - No issues, I can open an email, delete it, open another one and reply in a few seconds. I don't get the "10 seconds to delete an email" issue
GPS - Accurate to 12-odd feet, the occasional spaz out to 200 feet for a fraction of a second, but that's it
Menu - no lag issues, the odd stutter where it takes maybe 1/4 a second to show the transition animation, again, barely noticable
Apps - Other than "Zombies Live!" which is slow as hell, I don't get any unresponsive screens when apps load or quit
If you want I will make a video tomorrow. I am going to an airshow in the morning, but will make it when I get back in the evening.
Have to agree with extraordinary sluggishness despite battery pulls turning off animations etc...

Out of curiosity.. XDA is a developers forum (hence the name).. Why would you hang around if you just want an out of the box experience??
Welldone widjaja, i totaly agree with u, samsung galaxy s, what a pile of crap, i got rid of mine (at times i felt like smashing the pile of crap with a hammer or throwing it out of the window) i know have a dell streak and i couldent be happier
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
anything that runs Windows Mobile is a piece of crap, else i wouldn't have switched to an Android phone. That Dell Stinks, it's even bigger and more cumbersome than the HTC Athena
Widjaja you're not alone, i've experienced the exact same problems. It almost felt you were talking about my handset.
This would really be the best handset if it wasn't for the issues you have mentioned, really.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
This guy brings up good points, products should always work flawlessly out of the box. And for your situation, not wanting to tinker, its probably best to replace your phone with something simpler (aria). On the other hand, a few software fixes that are already out address all these issues and make this phone, the best on the market.
Gl with your next cellphone purchase.

What would you do in this Hinge-related international problem

So, basically, I am living in israel for a year so I can have a year of grade-free religious studies and not have to worry about my gpa or take tests. The only problem is that Cell phone selection is pretty crappy.
So I went onto ebay and bought a G2 that shipped to my parents place and a buddy of mine was supposed to bring it to me tomorow but I found out today that I have the hinge problem pretty bad. (my dad showed it to me via skype)
I contacted HTC and they said I am still under warranty but they may not even replace the phone if I send it it. I can get my parents to bring it to a local repair shop and get them to just fix the spring, but the only problem with that is that they may not know what they are doing with the g2 as it is a new phone.
Normally it wouldnt be an issue to just send it it to HTC but the next time a friend is coming in from the states is early january and I don't want to have to wait that long for a phone that may not even get repaired...what would you do?
p.s. I also happen to have a friend here in israel, and although he is not proffesionally trained, he has opened up many an HTC phone. can anyone who has done the spring fix themeselves tell me if it is a particularly hard operation to do on the phone? When you are done doing it does the phone show any sign of being opened to the untrained eye? Sorry about the long post
mountain out of a molehill, you are making, my friend.
get the phone and stick with it. Your dad may not realize that this is normal for the phone.
Get the phone over to the promised land now... and then if you are so unhappy with it... fix it yourself using a thread on how to repair your own hinge on this here XDA Forums!
todah!
Thanks for the reply one thing I noticed when he showed me the phone was that it was almost exactly the same problem as this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvHE5lZ1tCs in that the screen is a little wobly after the keyboard is deployed. Is that also normal?
Thanks for the quick response!

its normal. Its basically a non issue. I think people just expected it to be rock solid like its predecessor the G1. A lot of people took it way out of context and basically caused such a ruckus over this...
anything with hinges.. is going to be a little free to move around because.. its on hinges!!!
unless the hinges are broken theres no problem with this phone. I mean.. its not for the construction worker or for people who dont have the time or energy to treat it with some respect.. its not exactly a wimp either...
You can always tighten it up a bit to give it more "snap"...
Also.. you will find that your need for the keyboard is not as great as you think... because of the capability for voice commands and the incredible swype and gingerbread keyboards on this --- its so intuitive I rarely need the keyboard anymore.

+1 for the keyboard, i only use mine for long text messages or emails, otherwise i use swype/HTC IME keyboard.
I wasn't happy with mine at first but now I don't even notice it.
Agree with androidcues on the fact that people are making waaay more of a big deal about the hinge than it really is.
The things that are shown in the video linked above, or similar ones (like the phone opening while holding it upside down), would never even be noticed by most people. While I wish the hinge design would stay closed a little more "firmly", its an extremely minor criticism. I still quite like the design, and the general build quality of the phone is excellent.
I'm not as concerned about the loose hinge as I am about the fact that it wobbles after the keyboard is deployed

This again, as stated earlier is really a non-issue if you are normal and take care of your phone. HOWEVER, if you throw your phone around, like to sit on it, or work construction where your phone goes through hell each day, this WOULD be a problem. Personally, i dont understand how some people take such poor care of their phones .

The things the guys is doing in the Youtube video you posted, you and every other other normal person will never do in regular use. The way he is pressing the bottom edge of the screen with the keyboard deployed, or bending the top, there is no sane reason for you to ever do those things. Its just a nitpicky point discovered by somebody looking for problems where there aren't really any.
Its a self fulfilling prophecy. Like a hypochondriac surfing WebMD, the more of this stuff you read or watch, the more you are likely to find a "problem". Stop sweating it, and wait until you have it in your hands. If it really feels like its defective, then send it to HTC. You have full warranty for a year from the manufacturer, I believe.
long story short, your phone is fine, a little give in the hinge is normal.
get that beautiful piece of art to you, root it, and live it up my friend

very well said. a perfect summary of the illusion of the issue.
Thanks for the heads up guys, I think the current plan is to get the phone to me and if it really bothers me, I'll give it to my friend for surgery, I remember seeing somewhere you could buy some of those warranty is now void stickers to put on the phone to make it look like you never touched it... Can someone give me a link?
Htc will check your phone and determine whether you have voided the warranty. But...I'm betting you'll be voiding it anyhow. Just send it back the way you found it. Document recovery hboot info etc so you can find the files to flash when and if u need to. But you shouldn't and lmfao at a 'sticker'
