Good day, all. I hope that this isn't too stupid of a question and I have searched here to see if it has been addressed before.
I've got a SM-G975U that I was using on Verizon which capped out at Android 11. We are moving to an MVNO that uses the ATT network and had a lot of issues like being unable to make or receive calls so I upgraded Android to V12 making the phone an SM-G975U1. The phone operates almost as expected. I can send and receive calls, text and have data access; however, it only shows LTE in the menu bar.
Every online guide shows that there should be an option under Settings | Connections | Mobile Networks | Network Mode. My problem is that there is no Network Mode option. If I get this figured out then all will be ok.
In reading online and in some Reddit threads, it seems that ATT is picky about FW on phones on their network. With that in mind, I downloaded and installed G975U1UES7IVJ2 which SamMobile and SamFW both list as the latest Android 12 SM-G975U1 FW.
In SIM card status
Mobile network state shows connected.
Service state shows in service.
IMS registration status shows registered.
But mobile voice and data network type both show LTE.
My MVNO is not much help. Might be time to switch again...

Hi,
I just bought an i9500 Galaxy S4. Replaces my Nexus S.
Either-way, I have it simmed to Telus in Canada. While connected via my wireless everything works as it should. However, when I disable wireless and use just the mobile connection I can only use phone and sms, I cannot get connected to the internet via mobile data.
I called Telus and they said to verify Telus as the carrier. I did. They asked me to do a search for networks. Which I couldn't do because I was talking to them on the phone I was troubleshooting on. So I disconnected. Once disconnected from call I opened the network settings and did the network search. It completed once and I chose telus. Still no mobile data connection.
When I look at status it says:
Network = Telus
Mobile Network Type = UMTS:3
Service State: In Service
Mobile Network State: Disconnected
My device is:
GT-i9500
Android 4.2.2
Baseband ver. i9500XXUAMDK
Kernel Version 3.4.5-Adam-1.2+
Build Number JDQ39.i9500XXUAMDK
SELinux Permissive
I rooted my phone using the instructions found here: www dot redmondpie dot com/root-galaxy-s4-gt-i9500-on-android-4.2.2-how-to-tutorial
Everything seemed fine until this morning until I could not get mobile data connection. I did not test the mobile data connection immediately after the rooting so i don't know if it (the rooting) had anything to do with my current issue.
Also, when I attempted to check the network mode I only have these choices:
1. GSM/WCDMA
2.GSM only
3.WCDMA only
I currently have it selected as GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) but I have tried GSM only. The Telus person says I should also have GSM/HSPA as a selection and I know the phone does support this but where it is I have no clue.
Any help I could get for this would be awesome. I am thinking of unrooting the phone and sending it back and I really don't want to do that cause I LOVE this phone.
Thank You.

There wont be anything wrong just that u ll be missing "apn" setting in ur mobile network
Which can be edited in setting / ither networks / mobile networks / access point names
Google it for ur network or call ur service provider for the same
This should solve it
Also rooting wont affect may be apn setting is reset nothing else

Ok resolved. I was to quick to disregard my provider(I usually look elsewhere first because of bad experience's calling help-desk's; this time it backfired on me).
It was a simple thing really. In case anyone else experience's this here it is;
On my new phone I had only one network provider: isp.telus.com
I had to grab my old phone and add this also: sp.telus.com and all other settings copied from my old phone
The help-desk lady said that the isp.telus.com is used for tethering only and that it facilitates communication between the phone and the laptop (or whatever other device you are tethered to) and the actual data connection is is the sp.telus.com .
My phone was only picking up the isp.telus.com network and I had to manually add the sp.telus.com. She said it happens on some international devices and didn't explain further.
Anyways, hope this helps someone.

Please help the frustrated me
I put a T-mobile sim card on my VZW Note 3 and added an APN to for the mobile network, the 4G LTE flag shows up in the status bar as expected. The only problem is: when it uses data network instead of WIFI, all non-http network connections seem to get blocked and the only thing I can do is to use the browser to surf Internet. All other apps such as WeChat, Skype don't work at all. WeChat keeps reporting "Server access failure (1, -10087)".
I suspect there's a firewall built in the T-mobile data network but couldn't find any settings about it.
Does any expert here know to solve the problem?
Thanks!

Did you ever get it to work? I'm experiencing the same issue with my note 3 from VZW.
Server Access Error (-1,10087) with WeChat \ HTC One M8 \ T-Mobile
I have been getting the same error ever since Android was updated from 4.3 to 4.4.*.
I have WeChat on a HTC One M8 on T-Mobile. Works fine on WiFi, but not on direct connect to T-Mobile's LTE network. T-Mobile doesn't have any ideas what could be causing this except to say it is either WeChat, Android, or HTC.
T-Mobile did give me a brand new HTC One M8 thinking a new phone may help, but I still run into the same issues.
I have full use of Internet, email and messaging, but WeChat will not connect via the T-Mobile network. It appears WeChat may be getting blocked by T-Mobile when accessing via the HTC One M8 as there are a few things occurring:
1. Continually receiving an error: Server Access Error (-1,10087). Only occurs when there is no WiF and trying to connect through T-Mobile’s data network.
2. Cannot request a TEXT to be sent to me under the Password Recovery feature. It says a text is being sent but none come through.
3. The same with the request a phone call Password Recover feature. It says to expect a call but none come.
4. When sending a data report, it will get to 95% uploaded and then freeze and never finishes.
Any thoughts on how to correct this?

Did you check to see if you have a proxy in your apn settings? That would cause a such a condition if you have a proxy in your tmobile apn settings.

Same thing for me on Tmobile M8 using We Chat. If I go into the settings and turn off and on Mobile Data, it will work for a few minutes and then revert back to the server error.
I definitely believe it has to deal with something on Tmobile's network but their support doesn't have an answer. Someone please help!
finally figured it out
This has been bothering me since I flashed the viperone rom for my M8. The solution is simple, go to your APN setting edit access point, change APN protocol from IPV6 into IPV4/IPV6!

Just wanted to post this for anyone else that wanted to use their S7 Active with another provider and didn't want to stay with At&t
or wanted to use other sims when traveling.
( I have nothing against At&T, but there was a better option I wanted to use...ie unlimited 4g)
I wanted the S7 active but also wanted to switch from at&t (for me it was too pricey and again there was no unlimited 4g) so I thought I might be in a bind on options and was holding off on making the switch
(For me the bttery lfe alone made the S7 and S7edge completely inferior to the active and that at first was enticing enough for to me to stay with At&t)
However... I didn't realize how easy At&T themselves made it to switch.
I can confirm the S7 active (SM-G891A) running 7.0 nougat works perfectly on the other network. Not trying to give that network free marketing... but its the other carrier on a GSM network in the US.
Though its pretty straight forward.. I thought I would just state below
Prerequisites
Own your phone outright
Not on contract (or you'll presumably pay a fee)
You are the account owner
Go to this site
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/
Type in your devise IMEI number and info and account email
Request unlock code
Go to your email click the confirmation (Showed up for me in about a minute)
Wait about 10-40 minutes for a second email (It says up to 48 hours but I just did this on three separate devises and they all took less than an hour)
Write down the Code provided
Turn off phone
Remove AT&T sim card and insert other carriers SIM (can be a friends, classmates, coworkers if you don't have one yet)
Turn phone on
(Pop Up generates for unlock code request)
Enter Unlock code
Done!
S7 Active free to go.
Added note:
Once your new carriers SIm comes in and If you want to keep the old number DO NOT CANCEL your line with AT&T, first insert the new SIm from the New carrier and then port your number over...
You'll keep your AT&T number that you had and automatically end your service with them. No fees no hassle as long as you met the prerequisites above.
Hope that Helps for anyone wanting to make the switch
Forgot to add, though it might be obvious I still don't want anyone to get hung up on it... you will have to set your new APN (access point names) per your new provider and or new location. It may auto populate with your new Sim card... BUT it also may be a generic APN with the new provider and not nessicarily the best 4g network.
Just Google or call your new provider and they will provide which APN is best for your S7 active on your network.
*#*#4636#*#* - To change network settings
If you are struggling with default AT&T settings:
Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> 'Device Information' -> 'Set Preferred Network Type:' -> Select 'WCDMA' or 'Global auto (PRL)'
I used to get 1 bar on LTE, now I'm getting full coverage on UMTS. I'm on MINT SIM (they are T-mobile MVNO).
I want to add, after the first week I realized 7.0 had some intermittent 4g issues (some it would say no Internet ever with full bars)
I flashed back to 6.0.1 and all the issues are gone.
Please just keep this in mind if you have issues with s7 active 7.0 off of at&t.
@Acinko thanks for the heads up on 7.0 issues. How were you able to get 7.0 on an unlocked S7 active? It keeps telling me that the firmware is up to date. (Using T-mobile service)

On t-mobile you probably want to stay on 6.0.1 and not move to 7.0 n... t-mobile is having some data issues when the phone is on 7.0
However if you want to try it anyways... download the full firm file for 7.0 and 6.0.1 (both available on this site, just search recent posts) make sure you get both so you can switch back if need e d.
And your gonna need to flash them with Odin when your phone is in download mode.
There is walkthroughs for this on this site and others so I won't repeat it all here but that is what you will need to do.
No root needed.
Here's the 6.0.1 file, you can down load from these links and use the password to open (which is in the third post)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-active/development/how-downgrade-7-0-to-6-0-1-t3590649
And here's 7.0 n
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-active/how-to/g891a-android-n-offical-odin-package-t3581042
Just FYI due to heavy bandwidth usage with these types of files the links regularly break (or really just get taken off) so you may have to search for another upload if these stop working.
Good luck.

This is not "S7 Active" specific issue. It is overall S7 issue on Android 7.0. You don't need to downgrade to 6.0.1. Just delete all the APNs (make it EMPTY!) -> Restart phone -> Add APN -> Restart. Problem solved.
Any particular reason why you would go to T-Mo over ATT? I think ATT's network is better? If its cost than maybe consider Cricket?

I'm not sure about yours, but for sure there was issues with my active on 7.0 off of ATT and wiping / replacing APNS did not fix it. What you said to do was the first step I tried.
Then I moved on to clearing location through the other company and fully resetting networks.
Tired default APNs, tried suggested APNs tried manual and custom APNs all of which still lead to intermittent or no connectivity
It became to have regular intermittent complete loss of network and data, no matter what apn was on there.
Flashing to 6.0.1 fixed it and I never had the issue again. Again maybe it worked differently for others, but that for sure is what fixed my issues.

CFoote, I shot you over a pm.
So, I got a S7 active off swappa and it works with my cricket account. However everytime I make or receive a call a small notice a the bottom of the screen says PROVISIONAL FWD ACTIVE comes on. (see screen grabs). Basically if I am on the phone or have the phone down on a table and miss a call. My callers are being sent to this 916 area code in Sacramento which appears to be a general ATT (or old owner?) vmail bank. I have tried and failed to update from ATT instructions (failed to read data). And the 3 ATT reps I am talking to say I have to have the ORIGINAL OWNER turn the function off first! Any helpo or suggestions? Apologies if this really needs its own thread. https://goo.gl/photos/f7UzoQsQfS9sE2Vk9
Reverted to 6.0.1 and still having connectivity issues

I think I've tried all the things listed in this thread. I have a SM-G981a (unlocked) device. When I got it (on Nougat), I cleared all APNs and added the one recommended by my provider (mintsim). I had service for about one hour and then lost it and it never came back.
I rolled back to 6.0.1 and cleared the APNs and used the same mintsim recommended APN and still don't have service.
Any ideas of next things to try?
Thanks in advance.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> 'Device Information' -> 'Set Preferred Network Type:' -> Select 'WCDMA' or 'Global auto (PRL)'
My phone worked fine in Sweden with default settings, but in Romania I had to type in the above and chose LTE/UMTS auto (PRL) and then it worked perfect!
i have an s7 active that was frp and network unlocked. i am trying to use this on tmobile.
my s7 active is running android 7.0
i have a few problems and need assistance
1. the wifi calling option is greyed out under settings. from the home screen using the pulldown menu the wifi option appears to be turned on.
2. text messaging and emails worked for about one day then quit
3. samsung pay has a message ..access to samsung pay has been denied call customer service
4. s health unable to open app. your device had been compromised
any ideas?
thanks
Would this work for switching s7 to Verizon?
Would this work for Verizon or because it's cdma not gsm it won't work
Hello guys. After paying off the remainder of my S8's bill on sprint they unlocked it (or so they said). I then used your guide to install Samsung and at&t's firmware. From there I went to an at&t store, bought an at&t go phone sim card, installed it, activated their service and changed my number. LTE works fine, but I don't think 2g and 3g are working.
1. Under sim card status it says disconnected mobile network state. My IMS registration status is not registered either.
2. Under connections - mobile networks - network operators at&t - search for at&t microcell it says "Failed to connect to mobile network via at&t MicroCell. Try again.
3. Under connections - mobile networks - access point names it says "ATT Nextgenphone", that's all. I would of thought more options would be here. ?
According to the app open signal my phone never uses 2g or 3g.
Please let me know what I should do next. Thank you.
After tinkering with one of these all weekend, I can't get it to place or receive calls on Xfinity Mobile. I either get an error message, "You are currently out of range of the mobile network", or it places the call and instantly disconnects.
I was able to completely bypass the APN lockout by temporarily inserting an old Freedompop SIM, and the new APN as well as the ability to add/edit persisted after installing the XFM SIM. And the "Mobile Network Mode" app works fine to force different preferred networks, and even to trigger carrier provisioning, which allowed me to use TMOB with no issues, except the lack of any LTE band but 4. But nothing works except data on XFM, and "trigger carrier provisioning" doesn't appear to work.
Surprising because Visible R2s are plug-and-play with XFM, and it's a pretty decent phone otherwise. Hate to relegate it to my glovebox TMOB Pay-As-You-Go spare.
Anyone else have any luck?
Yeah, running into the same issue. Trying to get it running with a red pocket verizon sim. People are saying on the slickdeals forum the fix would be flashing the unlocked firmware. A firmware no one can find.
