Hello,
Can you please help me with my google maps issue on xtrons TM100L device?
From some time I have a problem with artefacts displayed on screen istead of text (eg. street names etc.).
The problem is gone when I delete app data (for google maps app) but only for the first run of the app (after data delete). On the next run of the app problem is back.
It begin some time ago, maybe after some update of google maps. I was not doing anything else.
I tried to hard reset of the TM100L unit and configure android from scratch but without success. The problem remains.
Please see attachements.

Does anyone else get this with the Maps app? It seems they are stored for a few days to weeks, then the application or the system deletes them. Does anyone know why?
Interestingly enough, I ran into the exact same thing this morning. I'd downloaded a section of my local area a few weeks ago after wiping my 32 gigger & when trying to check directions this morning (offline), the map never filled in & I noticed the exact same message on the offline pane. Being able to store offline maps is kinda useless if the device reclaims that storage via some kind of background process.
I have this too, all the time, on my Galaxy Nexus stock 4.1.2. As far as I know, this has always happened, sooner or later, to any off-line maps I had downloaded. What could be causing this? Is there a way to repair/circumvent this bug?
Bug has been fixed!
Apparently this bug has been fixed: with the latest version of Google Maps, it doesn't happen any more. Thank you, Google!
I have done a full factory reset (along with a clean install of 2 different ROMs) and I still am having this issue with Maps (google maps) crashing with "Maps has stopped working" whenever I try to go into navigation. I tried everything I could think of including:
Clearing cache
Uninstalling updates
Reinstalling maps app
Doing a full factory reset as well as a clean wipe of the device before reinstalling the ROM I am using
Installing a completely different ROM
Cleaing data for google play services
None of these have seemed to help. The worst part is that it seems to do it 8/10 times I try to go into navigation, and whenever It does crash, It will continue to crash if I try to go into navigation over and over so long as I stay in that same geographical location (not sure if this matters, but as an example if I get the navigation to work when I am at work, it will start crashing if I try it when I get home, and vice versa).
Any ideas/suggestions?
I have the EXACT same problem, but I don't have a Galaxy S5. So it's not your device, rather a problem with Google Maps. I'm on v8.4.1 of Maps (although v8.3.1 behaves the same) and v6.1.74 of play Services. There seems to be a Google discussion thread describing the problem (in part, although mine seems to crash at any time / more randomly, besides for just while entering the Destination address). It really bothers me that Google will release these apps to the public without first deeming them to be stable. I will just be using TomTom in the interim until they can sort this out
STABILITY ISSUES & CAR MODE FAULT --HELP PLEASE!!
Guys I need some help please.
The phone is great but over the past 2 months I have noticed occasional stability issues like programs suddenly opening up when you turn on screen that haven't been selected etc.etc
There is a list of 9 common faults published including some where, for eg OK google was working fine but suddenly doesnt etc.
This week in CAR MODE I noticed this unexpected error that restarting, clearing app cache, clearing app data etc will NOT fix.
Everything was working OK and I changed nothing that could have caused this.
when selecting Nav from carmode home screen it asks you "where do u want to go?", as per normal.
When I open the search text box to enter the address where I want to go, instead of verbally telling it, it accepts text characters for about 3-4 sec then suddenly just goes straight back to the carmode home screen before you finish typing the info and then hitting search!! Every time.
This is extremely annoying as it is the only accurate way to give it an address as it often miss hears the verbal names.
I cannot find anywhere a way of downloading and reinstalling carmode version 1.2.44.16607 so it can reload whatever blasted line of code is suddenly corrupted and causing the problem. if it was a separate app I could just uninstall and reinstall it but it is part of the OS and even in Galaxy apps I cannot find the specific Samsung app.
I DO NOT want to do a factory reset and wipe my phone!!, that is a BS solution just as it is on a PC for trying to fix a minor windows error.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY POSSIBLE SUGGESTIONS PLEASE???
Hello Members
I've got the head unit above, it's an Android 4.4.4 , at 1gig of Ram.
I can install the Sygic app from the store without any problems, but when the setup comes to needing to download the mapping, it can't, it either reports there's a connection issue, or the round timer just keeps rotating.
I have downloaded other navigation software IE Copilot, and there's been no problem.
I can surf the web, use my Gmail, download apps.
I've tried setting up Sygic using my home router internet, and my tether connection from my phone with no luck.
Is there something I can do, or what's the issue with Sygic?
Help would be great thanks
This is because Sygic wants to identify your unit as a cellphone and wants a valid and unique cellphone IMEI number. The Android head units all have a fake and the same IMEI number because they don't actually have cellphone modems built in, so Sygic will not be able to properly register with the download server because its trying to this fake IMEI number.
There is a way around this issue:
In your Sygic Navigation folder after you run it one time (on my device it's under /sdcard/SygicNavigation), there is a folder called Android. Within that folder, create a file called settings_overload.ini and add the following lines:
[RuntimeSettings]
m_strDrvDevice=mac
I also had tochange the same m_strDrvDevice paramater in the settings.ini file from IMEI to mac to get it to work for me, so you might want to do that as well.
You will need to edit the files using "RootExplorer".
After you do that, then Sygic will be able to properly talk to the download servers and register your unit to download maps.
This should really be in the Wiki/FAQ.
What i did to solve this was to install and run it on my Galaxy tab, then just copied the sygic folder over to My HU and works like a charm now.
Probably could use phone as well.
Thanks nixfu and nujackk for the help, but can I just mention that my Android headunit isn't rooted, so can I still use RootExplorer, and do I install RootExplorer on the Headunit?
Hello Members
I just wanted to again say thanks for the information, I realised that the only way I can do the edits recommended by nixfu, is by 'Rooting' the Pumpkin Head unit, which I have no knowledge on how to do it, and which I rather not do anyway.
I did manage to find a similar navigationally app called Navigon UK, which installed without problem, had no issues in downloading and installing the maps, and has pretty much the same 'Assisted lane guidance' (like Sygic's 'Dynamic lane assist).
I see no point in Sygic being so restrictive in presenting this hardware compatibility issue, and as long as the user has paid for the applications licence, and is a registered user on there download servers, there shouldn't be this unnecessary obstacle.
kind regards
Livio
I have had an Android headset in my Skoda Superb since March 2021, purchased off Amazon and branded "Vanku". It has 64Gb memory and is running Android 10. For 12 months it worked fine, but since May it has started crashing a couple of popular apps on opening; and these are the main ones that I really need in the car: Waze for GPS navigation, and Audible so I can listen to audiobooks on the move. I use my Samsung mobile as the hotspot for connecting the headset to WiFi, and my other apps (e.g., Sygic and Google Maps) work fine.
After countless resets to factory settings and reinstalls of the apps Waze and Audible, they work for a short time and then they crash on opening. Would anybody be able to throw any light on why this is happening?
Thank you in anticipation.

If you would add the required information, there could be someone to help...
Picture of the "About tablet" wihich shows the MCU and firmware.
Thanks for the reply, but is there an attachment to your message? I can't see what required information is needed!
Hello, if your unit is MTCD/E, then the last update of android system webview and chrome is causing the app crashes, please uninstall and disable these updates, then restart radiation and ignore any requests for updates.

You need to attach the picture or at least the information I ask for:
MCU
Firmware
These information you can find in "About Tablet in the settings menu.
Thank you very much Pavel and Rigattoni, your help is really appreciated. I disabled the Android Webview after a forced stop, and one of apps that previously crashed was working OK; but not all. So I have preformed another factory reset and reinstalled all my apps, and will make sure that Android webview is disabled.
Attached are two photos of the "about" page BEFORE the reset, with the information required:
MCU version - MTCE_HT_V3.53_1, etc.
Thanks again,
John
You have MTCE, I identified the problem well:
Open Settings
Tap Applications.
Click Android System WebView.
Tap more options (three dots)
Tap Uninstall updates.
Turn off automatic updates in Google Play.
Restart the device Ignore any requests for Webview and Chrome updates.
Do the same with Chrome.
A factory reset is useless, a firmware update would help, but I haven't found one that solves this problem yet. Try writing to the seller, maybe he has it.

I asked exactly for the MCU and firmware, as Vanku also sells some units with CSN2 MCU. In this case we would need to dive deeper. But your guess was right. These Vanku with PX6 have a severe issue with Webview... same as some others.
Thank you Pavel, I have noted your instructions and checked my headset. However, since the reset of the headset, "Android Webview" does not appear in the list of apps in Settings; so I have disabled updates in Google Play, and will ignore any updates apart from the apps installed by myself.
So far so good, everything is working fine now; the help from you and Rigattoni is really appreciated!
