Hi All,
I hope this is the right place for this post, if not please let me know.
I've got 20+ years experience in IT but have never looked at playing with the ROM on a phone. I have a OP5 that I would like to get a "clean" version of android on and have found several posts, blogs and youtube videos but they all seem to be missing some of the fundamentals.
Could someone point me in the right direction for maybe a general "how to put a new ROM on your android device" and / or something more specific to the OP5 if that exists. Happy to watch, read and learn but just not sure where to start.
Thanks in advance.

many thanks
Do you have any experience with Windows Mobile or is this your first pda?
In general I can recommend you to check out some cool sites and download software to get used to your pda and how it works. One of my favourite sites is pocketpcmag.com - in the best sites section the have tons of links to good sites in many languages.
If you don't understand what people are writing here, don't flash your pda unless you are sure what they are talking about. I read so many threads where people "bricked" their pdas and don't know how to get it working again.
replie thanks
thanks will check the site out its my first phone/pda i feel the need to learn i can do the norm install software to the device but curiosity killed the cat little knowledge IS BAD ive made mistakes in the past and lernt my lesson but still very eager
My own experiance is that sometimes you need to take an educated leap of faith - I am no technical genius but I have an XDA running B&B 4.1, ripping DivX movies to TCPMP and changing my Splash screen.
Pretty much this is all thanks to the great work done on this site - First I suggest yuo browse, read what people are saying, look out for the pit falls (make sure you run USPL before flashing any new ROMs) but more importantly share you experiances and questions - people on the forum are always keen to help
Hi all
I'd really appreciate to have a sticky (and updated) comparison table of all 6.x ROM's available. This would help users to decide and stop threads like "which is the best rom".
As I'm not a pro in knowing too many details about ROM's, I'm not able to do this :-(
So, is there anybody who could create such a list?
Thanks a lot!
this is a good idea but i'm too noobie as well to know what is inside the rom...
what i do was to read the pages as many as i can before deciding which roms is right for me...once i can make a decisiion, then i downloaded it and install...
if i'm not happy, i can always go back to the previous ROM...

It would be interesting if you read all the pages by yourself, I am sure you would enjoy and it would open a new chapter for you. Best wishes.
I agree with April 1.
With that said... you'll avoid plunging yourself into deep waters.
It will develop the habit of all members(new and old) to read first, starting from the wiki.
You will also get the chance to know the members.
AND
You'll have the chance of being a "pro" (knowledgeable).

Best advice I can offer you is just to get used to your device. Get the feel of it and play with it. Once you have done this, then read the wiki so you understand more.
If after all of this you feel you want to change anything, do a search for it first, read up on it and then try it out.
There are plenty of apps/software/games/themes available for you to install on your HD. Apps/software & games which work on the HD can also be found in the wiki as well as in the software forum.
You can also change roms (operating system), but you will need to do some research on this first. Guide to flashing roms can be found here.
The most important thing of all is to research & read before trying anything. If your unsure of anything on any particular topic, ask your question within that relevant thread

Hey,
As you can tell I'm new to the forums and everything here, I couldn't find a help section anywhere and hopefully this is the right place to post this kind of thing. Does anyone know a website, a book or anything of the kind that could tell me all the basics on programming in WM6.5, what ROM's are. A dictionary for windows mobile, and things to do with the HD2?
Thanks in Advance. Happy new years!
Hi,
Welcome and happy new year to you.
In terms of learning about roms start with this link...http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
I don't know anything about programming in WM6-5 but someone will be along in a minute to help.
I am also not sure what you mean about "things to do with the HD2". If you mean learning about the device then these forums are a good place to start.
All the best.

Tell us something about your phone.
What ROM / Radio you have on your phone?
(go to settings / about phone / software info...)
Then you have to choose a build. If you have time it is better to try several and choose the one you are most comfortable in. I tried 5-6 builds so far and yesterday I installed latest JDMS build and am very happy with it. It is not that fancy looking like Desire HD builds but it is very much faster and for me so far everything works.
As kokfann said it is best to do some research on forums and get a little better picture, but if you are stuck in something let us know. I came to this forum several months ago and I understand how much stressful can be searching the best solution on so much information here. And as I see often lots of people here are just waiting for a newbie to ask some basic question just to flame him horribly. Do some search and ask if you need something.
