A little help..? - HD2 General

Hey,
As you can tell I'm new to the forums and everything here, I couldn't find a help section anywhere and hopefully this is the right place to post this kind of thing. Does anyone know a website, a book or anything of the kind that could tell me all the basics on programming in WM6.5, what ROM's are. A dictionary for windows mobile, and things to do with the HD2?
Thanks in Advance. Happy new years!

Hi,
Welcome and happy new year to you.
In terms of learning about roms start with this link...http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
I don't know anything about programming in WM6-5 but someone will be along in a minute to help.
I am also not sure what you mean about "things to do with the HD2". If you mean learning about the device then these forums are a good place to start.
All the best.

Best place to get started ? ? ?

. . . with understanding development using Java for Android?
Do I start with Java books?
Where do I read about how to set up an Android development environment? I'm trying to read through everything at the Android Developers website, but I was hoping someone could point me towards better/more information.
I know this is a VERY n00b question, but in order to avoid asking any further n00b questions, I'd like to come to this party better equipped.
TIA -

Do you know Java?
Thank you for the reply!!
That's where I'd like to get started. I know Android is a FULL OS written in Java, so a beginner is looking at the equivalent of Mt. Everest from the viewpoint of a new born just learning to walk, but, as I said, I'd like to start somewhere.
Advice for:
what texts to start with
texts that help provide a good foundation to address Android
texts that are the next step after beginning
how to properly build a Java IDE with Eclipse
Would probably be a good starting place.
*bump* - ten characters
Honestly, I'd start out PMing some of the devs in the Development forum... Cyanogen, Enomther, etc. I've PM'd Enomther before back in the G1 forum and he's super responsive...
Probably your best bet.

[Q] How to make an android rom for the hd2

I'm pretty new to this. But i would like to learn to become a good android chef, so I'd like to know what programming language is required cook your own android rom for the hd2, and for other devices as well. Can somebody show me to a good thread that would help me out with this? thanks!
It's like the first forum of all forums but here's the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=613
Good Luck!

android software development

I was wondering if anyone else who is computer illiterate like me is very interested in learning how to create kernels, roms, themes... and anything else under the sun that deals with android software.
Anyone else interested in becoming a dev like those helping us out with froyo and whatnot?
I'm on Google now... I guess I'm looking for help on where to start. Like from square one... any nice guides you brainiacs could show us noobs?
I wouldn't mind teaching myself from the ground up just by reading internet guides - I enjoy both reading and learning.... I could see myself developing stuff for our community as a fun hobby.
If you would like to help me, think of me as an old man who's never owned a cell phone or a computer till now. That's how far back I'd need to go to learn, I have no experience in computer programming at all.
Since I got my fascinate and stumbled across xda, I've just been, well... fascinated with android and the mechanics behind it all. And the great devs that make this possible for our nice little community here!
So... you other noobs and pros out there wanna help each other out by sharing guides and experiences?

[Q] Need help developing!!!

To answer the question that everyone is thinking as they click on this thread... Yes, I am a noob.
Anyway, I downloaded the Android Kitchen and installed it on a Linux Ubuntu Virtual Machine on my Macbook using VMWare Fusion and i watched a video from theunlockr, but all it really let me do was add in apps, change the rom name and give it a few features but no visual customizations... If i posted a link of the "My ROM" no one would be able to tell a difference in the rom i planned on starting from.
Let me know if there is a different way to create that is actually making ROMs or customizing the ROM in it's entirety instead of small unnoticeable features, let me know if I'm just doing something wrong in my Android Kitchen and let me know if theres an easy way to develop ROMs on Mac without Virtual Machines. (The last one isn't a big worry because linux is very lightweight and runs fine on my computer but please help me on the other two questions)
Thanks in advance,
Adam Ferguson
Welcome Adam.
There's a lot going on in this little phones. It takes time to learn, and you'll probably never learn it all. (But don't let that stop you from trying. It is interesting and geeky fun.) So, I would start reading if you really want to learn. Here's a few links to get you started.

(I guess it's easier for me to find my posts, but others have posted some good stuff too.)
Also, I'd read some similar posts in this forum --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=613
This same question has been asked a lot in there.
Thanks for the info, I would really like to get into developing.
I also noticed you live in raleigh and thought it was quite a coincidence because in like about an hour from you in Winston Salem, just saying.

I've bounced between Asheville, Raleigh, and Gastonia... So, I've been through WS several hundred times at least. NC is the place to be. (At least that's what the imports from NY, NJ, PA, etc. tell me.
