Is anyone else bothered by this? For a new company and new product you would think they would be up to date with firmware releases. Most other phones already have 13 or will get it this year, whereas we will have to wait maybe until June next year. Not impressed
Bummer, but not surprised
It will better to focus on bug issues more than Android versions

The Android 12 version of Nothing OS still needs work and stability.
It's not reasonable to switch to Android 13 until version 12 is completely reliable.
For info, the stable version of Android 13 has only been available for a few days, so please be patient

Why couldn't they release the phone with stable firmware? Instead they release a glitchy phone and early adopters get to be beta testers except we dont get paid for it. At least Carl gets Pei'd
Maybe nothing Paranoid android will come with android 13...
nothing is looking to recruit several android devs currently.
for android 13 let's let a few months pass for the majority of problems to be fixed on the vanilla version of android, for the moment there are still big issues
Why didn't they recruit a big enough team before releasing the phone so all the issues could have been fixed before the phone was released?
What's the point? A few changes like icons ? We already have icon pack. I prefer having a bugless Android 12 than a full of bugs Android 13. Be patient, it requires work. If you're not, then do your own Rom based on Android 13 and share it with us. That's a one year company. It's already a miracle to sell a smartphone that fast. Being impatient isn't always a good thing man

That's a flawed argument. Have you ever watched a movie and thought it was bad? You're not allowed to have an opinion on a movie unless you become a director and actor and release your own movie using that logic.
Sounds like a coping strategy tbh

Maybe, but by choosing a phone from a brand new company, you can't except to have the same speed as company like samsung or xiaomi. Talking about them, when you see that they update to next versions but that they are full of issues, I prefer not to deal with those issues. If you wanted to always have the latest version before everyone, why didn't you choose a Pixel then? You have the Pixel 6A for the same price
I'm not saying that Android 13 not before 2023 is a good new, the point is, if we have Android 13 in february but far more stable than in october with bugs everywhere, then I don't care considering the few changes between 12 and 13. On a day to day use, you won't even notice the difference
Very disappointed, expected better . Might sell and buy something else

You're reacting like someone who wants to have everything right away and above all without any problems, and that's just not how it works in the smartphone world, especially for a start-up.
I'm not defending Nothing in any way, but I must admit that this reaction makes me wonder.
That it's Samsung with an R&D office and huge resources that ends up with smartphones that have recurring bugs and critical problems too.
I think that now we expect too much from smartphone or electronics manufacturers.
There will never be 100% reliability, it's impossible!
Have you ever been part of a team that develops roms, applications?
If so, you should know that as soon as a problem is solved, another one arises, more or less important.
So you have to go through the whole command line to see the possible error.
All this represents time, money, and a lot.
I disagree with your comment that Nothing should have had a bigger dev team.
I think you were on OnePlus before, and also criticised OP for their dev teams!
You knew when you bought a Nothing(1) phone that you would have bugs for sure!
I remind you that it was the future buyers of the Nothing Phone(1) who put pressure on Nothing to release their smartphone quickly, but I can confirm that the communication model chosen (the Nothing Hype) is also a factor and has its negative side, and I got caught up in the hype too....
So yes, the Phone(1) is a smartphone with a number of bugs, but I think it's a smartphone that will soon be reliable.
So be patient and forgiving with Nothing.
Thanks and sorry if my comment may seem harsh, but I think that you will be ok with me (I hope )
Can I suggest you to read this news from xda about the Nothing timeline for Android 13
Nothing delivers updated timeline for Android 13
I'm also very disappointed. 1.1.2 was already good enough. I find no deal Breaking bugs in ether 1.1.2 or 1.1.3. I wish they'd rather start developing android 13 directly instead of wasting time on software that is already ok enough.
Id say its a big DEPENDS if they polish the heck out of it iron out as many bugs and make it super smooth like 12 is on this phone id say its well worth the wait cuz no point in android 13 day one if its gonna lag crash etc like there's no tomorrow
Rom developers have a better chance of getting android 13 out for the nothing phone before nothing actually does
In the dev chat yesterday on Discord they said a beta would be released before the end of the year.

Still not a public release of android 13 for the nothing phone though. At this rate the phone is going to be behind. Other companies are already working on their version of android 13 which will be released way before nothing even starts working on android 13.

Hey guys,
Just dropping in to let you know that the FRF72 build that is floating around is not the official update. The Android team is feverishly working to get a final version out the door, but like passion-ate has mentioned this will only happen once a release candidate meets our quality criteria.
Since today is the Summer Solstice, we know things will be heating up a bit so hopefully Froyo will be on its way shortly. Thanks for your continued patience!
-Ry Guy
So… that tells us… not very much but we now know 2 things:
* FRF72, which was the latest official leaked Froyo build, was not the final version (we kind of already suspected that)
* and Froyo is still not ready
cool, thnx for the info
And so the wait continues...
Then again if the google guys think that FRF72 still doesn't meet their standards... could be a good thing.
I'm expecting the OTA'd Froyo to have the option to take over Apple's servers and Ddos them to pieces.
watch, we will have waited all this time for froyo and instead we get gingerbread. (crosses fingers and hopes)
Good to know...seems like Google is taking QA to a new level!

funny how long its taking google when they seemed so confident at I/O that it would be out shortly. what did they discover i wonder that suddenly needed so much attention?
anyway it doesnt bother me. but i know the complainers in the main google forum arent as forgiving. i have to wonder, what do those people think, that google is holding back 2.2 on purpose? what would be the hidden motive!

I agree, its tough to be mad since we already have it anyway. But I'm with you I'm intrigued by the delay, not put off by it. Hopefully google will not be too embarrassed to announce what caused the delay.
Re: Google Officially Updates Us On Froyo Status FRF72 Was Not Final,
I'm still excited, they work hard at Goggle, I'm sure the official update its going to be great when its ready.
I think we should have stick to 2.1 till the official froyo comes up,it's good to see that Desire to N1 Roms are active again
Rodriguezstyle ROM with FRF72 us amazing already
Fastest, smoothest Android I've ever used.
Cant wait for 75
So FRF72 is not the final build. What will be in the new build. Is there a list available what items is not met yet in the FRF72 build?
All this time I always have a feeling that froyo is being delayed due to flash! My thought is that they are waiting for the final flash build to optimize froyo for it.
Adobe has released Full flash 10.1 to android androidcentral.com/adobe-releases-flash-101-partners
so dont think they are waiting on flash anymore
and whilst waiting for flash to be ready they thought. "Hey, let's watch some korean drama and worry about gingerbread later"
Check out this article from Android Headlines,

Pretty big unconfirmed rumor at this point but it wouldn't be surprising after what happened with 2.0 and 2.1.
I find that a little concerning, unless the only actual difference relates to single/dual core compatibility. The reason I rolled back from Gingerbread to Froyo was because some of my apps weren't Gingerbread ready. I hope the difference isn't significant enough to cause a gap like this.
That's interesting to say the least, not exactly welcome news to hear of google telling phone manufacturers not to update.

My feeling exactly... i mean why would u do that???
Is it really that big of a deal? Seriously we will have before any manufacturer upgrades to it and April is really not that far off. I just feel sorry for the CM team and others that have been endlessly working on GB Roms. I see this upgrade as a good thing and it says some of the elements of Honeycomb will be brought to the 2.4 smartphone version. Why complain if there is nothing you can do about it but wait patiently and be happy you have a great phone. Google, HTC nor Sprint are obligated to update your phone, so just be happy that they do.

If google tells htc to not update to 2.3, and 2.4 isn't due out till april, then that pretty much guarantees that the Evo will reach it's eol on froyo. It still take a couple months after the updates released for it to be used
With a source like Pocket-lint it has to be "who the hell are they?"
No, really. I've never heard of these guys.
You wanna buy a bridge?
Well I heard they are killing the 2.4 release to solve the multi-screen issues, by releasing Android 2.5 "troufles" in July. So named because of the layers of screen, not shrooms ( did you get that big "G" ? )
And our long wait gets longer.
I'm LoL'ing at people who blindly believe the OP.

It will probably take them at least a month (unfortunately)
The 'Very Soon' didn't really sound like 'In a couple days'. I may agree with above. About 2-4 weeks is my prediction (purely speculation)
If I bought a GE I'd almost feel like I got duped - considering the major selling point was the timely stock updates.
2-4 weeks is timely compared to how it works now.

It does suck for those who actually got fooled with the GPe devices. It SHOULDN'T take them that long as they clearly have been working on it since the leaks have surfaced. I'm just ready to laugh when we see a partially working AOSP 4.3 build up before HTC releases the official OTA.

Well it only has been a couple hours since they announced it. The whole point of the GE was to get updates similar to the Nexus devices and if HTC can at least release it this week i will be happy . If not, this (sadly) is my last HTC phone as i have had several bad experiences with them already (but that is a whole different topic).
My window to return is today, so I may opt to return it, in favor of waiting to see what the Moto X announcement will be.
If that turns out to be a mediocre device then I may just opt to hop back on the One.
My biggest issue is paying $640 and not getting updates for weeks, but as already said here, it's only been a few hours lol.
4.3 doesn't sound like much of an update. A lot of little stuff, not much of which will be apparent to the user unless you let your kids use your phone all the time.
How fast this gets rolled out to the GE phones is not something to get exercised about, IMO.

To be honest i don't think the Moto X will be any better as far as updates go. It will most likely ship with 4.3, but it is also a big step back as far as specs go (according to the leaked spec sheets)

Thanks, I've edited my post. I found a few news stories as well about it. I hope it actually comes true.
I'm very surprised that Samsung have started to officially push out Lollipop to the S5 and OPO has not yet.
Considering the Touchwiz overlay which we all know is heavy and would require loads of work, where as CM12 doesn't have much of a change over stock Lollipop.
I've been using the CM12 nightlies for a few weeks now and they can be used as a daily driver for me, but there are still little bugs that need to be ironed out.
How has Samsung pipped CM to the post? I'm not sure if CM has just been slow or Samsung has picked up it's act.
Patience mate it will come in due course. CM usually take a while to release stable builds. Other devices are still waiting it will come in due course.

It's not so surprising when u think about the number of developers/programmers in Samsung as a multi-billion company compared to cyanogen. +I think there may have been some deals between Google and Samsung, LG etc so they get the source code sooner before official release. But that's only what think, no evidence backing up this statement.

How has Samsung beat CM to the chase? Money. Samsung are rolling in cash and they have a ridiculous amount of it to throw at developing the OS for their devices. Don't forget CM is a tiny (miniscule) company. Plus, the major OEM's get early release access to Android releases. You'll get your Lollipop, just be patient.

Samsung probably got off there ass, they have always received new code from google way in advance of it being released to the public.

Even if they did get it at the same time, CM would still be behind. It's all about money. Think about it, HTC, Samsung, Sony, LG, they all have squillions of dollars and countless employees to sink into their devices. CM? Nope. CM are a tiny (and new) company, with just a fraction of the money and manpower that the big players have. I really don't understand why everyone is so confused about this.

Because most consumers have no clue what's going on behind the scenes of these businesses, and ironically this leads them to think they know enough to legitimately criticize them. In America we call them arm-chair quarterbacks. They watch the game on TV the day after it's played completely removed the circumstances of the game, yet somehow they think they know everything and the guy on the field is stupid even though they've never even played the game.

I understand that but the only thing which is kind of icky to me is that CM being the primary OS provider for this phone, should provide the first stable versions for our phone. May be I am not seeing it correctly but looks like everyone gets CM stable releases at the same time. I just got this phone a month so may be I am missing something.

Not trying to start an argument here. But you do understand that the american football is played for the consumer's money (TV rights, stadium fees, ads etc). So if those arm chair QBs are paying to watch the game, they have a right to complain. If the teams or the players have a problem with it then they can go and play in private where no one will ever say a word.
It is similar situation here. The oneplus strategy was to attract consumers by using CM' OS. So I and others have a right to ask questions. You cannot criticize them and call them names. Go take out your frustration on someone else. You don't like this thread? Don't read it and don't comment on it.

You missed the point. Paying to watch something makes nobody an expert or even knowledgeable about the matter. One is free to complain about the phone one bought, but that gives no understanding about what's going on in the offices of OnePlus or CyanogenMod, or the processes involved in the two of them outing a ROM compared to Samsung.

Exactly and that is what being discuss here. Some people like me are not sure about the things which goes in CM/One Plus office and we are confused on why CM can't get it out sooner then other big OEMs. Small company or not, they are getting paid.
No one goes complaining directly to the players or the teams (or companies in this case). America is a free country and people like you are trying to suppress the freedom of speech. I am going to sit here and ask million questions and you cannot stop me. Exactly like I can't stop you from replying to my messages .
If you want to contribute to answering then the question, then please do. If not then please stop creating arguments here.
Cyanogenmod have releases for a boat load of different phones with different hardware, they get the lollipop source as it's released to the public and they're are a very small company. Unlike Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony which have many developers and early access to the android source code so they can develop the next android version with their respective skin on top. If you want to complain about cyanogenmod, feel free to do so just know they're a small niche operating system compared to the big OEM's. But you can take a look at cyanogenmod's Gerrit and see they're working hard on the CM12 branch, that's something you can't see with the big OEM's

So if I don't say what you want to hear, I just stop posting... I get it now. I guess I misunderstood what freedom of speech was before. :silly:
No point.
Why care about a Galaxy Sx getting lollipop before? It sucks anyway...:silly:

I'm very surprised that Samsung have started to officially push out Lollipop to the S5 and OPO has not yet.
Considering the Touchwiz overlay which we all know is heavy and would require loads of work, where as CM12 doesn't have much of a change over stock Lollipop.
I've been using the CM12 nightlies for a few weeks now and they can be used as a daily driver for me, but there are still little bugs that need to be ironed out.
How has Samsung pipped CM to the post? I'm not sure if CM has just been slow or Samsung has picked up it's act.

You forgot something, it's only officially available to the S5 in... Poland. Otherwise you still would have to root/ROM the Lollipop update onto the S5 no differently than a CM12 nightly and then it will only work on the international version. For the vast majority of S5 users they won't see an official OTA update for months, well after CM has delivered Lollipop to the OPO. Once it's made available to the US carriers expect massive delays again so they can 'certify' the ROM before pushing it out. If you really think that the extremely limited, country specific, release 'beat' CM to Lollipop you either have never played in the Android world or you have massively misplaced expectations.

Samsung probably got off there ass, they have always received new code from google way in advance of it being released to the public.
When it goes public that's when cm gets it.
Please understand all the variables before doing a shame post

Could you please provide a source to show Samsung get the code early?

So you can root and anyone with a European S5 can get a genuine released Lollipop. At the moment we are flashing a pre nightly version of an aftermarket ROM, not even a nightly, let alone anywhere close to an official CM12S.
Sure Samsung have money and they should need it to adapt TouchWiz, but this is basically a stock Lollipop we are waiting for.
I've yet to see anyone quote a reliable source about Samsung getting the code early, but if the do then that would obviously be a good reason for CM appearing slow.
CM are slow look into previous CM releases go back to when Kit Kat was released, or Jelly Bean etc. CM support a number of devices each with different drivers and such CM access the code once it's released to public as mentioned on many posts here. Now that's CM. If OPO wanted to I assume they could release an AOSP version of Lollipop if they wish to like how they did with Kit Kat. CM won't rush and roll out a semi working CM12S for the sake of it we haven't even got official nightlies yet. We are still within the 90 day promise so there's plenty of time left still.

It doesn't matter even an iota that it's stock Android that we're waiting for. That doesn't make it any less work to get it working for a device. You should look into exactly what is involved in getting a new version of Android running on any non-Nexus device, because clearly you're under the false impression that it's a sinch to do, which it most definitely is not. This is all about money and resources.
When I was considering buying a Oneplus 1+8 pro I was being told by YT influencers and media that if you like clean and good OS with frequent updates and longterm support that Oneplus is the way to go.
It has now been over 4 months since last update and AFAIK nothing is happening on that matter.
We have OB2 which is nowhere near being ready for daily driver. Even when it is released as stable I bet it will be even worse as what the current 10 is.
We have updates coming out for the 7 and Nord series but nothing for the 8.
If somebody wants to claim that there is nothing to update I will call them idiots. This OS is nowhere near to the level of the OSs I had on my previous Samsung and Apple phones. There are all sorts of issues which are not being addresed by Oneplus.
Am I the only one having a problem with that fact?

There are monthly updates, we have to wait for android 11 like everyone else.
Use Oxygen updater or look here: https://www.androidauthority.com/oneplus-8-pro-update-1108368/

1st - OB2 is like 3 weeks old, not 4 months. Hope you don't expect Stable A11 days after Pixels.
2nd - if you believe YT influencers, then I wish you good luck.
3rd - security updates are spot on.
4th - I use OB2 since the release day and have no complains. Eventually high battery use of Google Play Store app. Nothing crazy.
]1st - I was referring to stable A10. Latest update was released Aug 15, 2020. So not 4 months but 2. Still long time ago.
2nd -I cannot establish my own opinion since I have no chance to see these phones in person before purchase. Also this is nowadays normal and best way to buy stuff.
3rd - No they are not. The latest stable version is on August security patch. We are now in the middle of October. Even Samsung is pushing that as we speak.
4th - I use my phone for work so no I will not run beta SW on it.
Samsung are better with security updates, but oneplus will get android 11 first
No complaints with 8 Pro updates this year...

First off. Don't listen to YouTubers, and influencers, I think I would poke someone in the eye of they told me that's what they did for a job..
OnePlus absolutely smashes the other OEM's in regards to updates, Huawei, old HTC, Sammy, LG, Sony, sorry but none of them come close .
Pixel? Sure that's the source, but the shortcomings Vs pixel on the OnePlus, it makes up for with a bigger battery and IMHO a better Dev community and a course matched beta program.
You can't go wrong with OnePlus tbh.

Based on this report your claims have no foundations to stand on. Oneplus released 12 updates since the phone launched but most of them were minor updates and fixed nothing. Only one major update. I would not classify that in the "smashing other OEMs" category.

12 updates in 6 months is pretty good stats. Small or not. I have had all other brands and came back to OnePlus (I had the 6T as well). Even stock, it is a great OS. But, everyone has their own opinion.

No foundations? Perhaps the fact that OnePlus actually release stable OS' in a timely manner with very little need to change anything, OOS is an extremely stable and fast skin for Android..very light too.
Security update comes out OnePlus gets it... new OS in development, we get it early.....to what OEM are you referring?
Huawei does not offer this speed nor does it offer a beta program like this, Samsung didn't either if memory serves, Sony was pitiful and splintered (as was Huawei (due to device variants /regions) LG (do people still buy these types of phones? Motorola (budget phone not in the same league)
I've had a lot of phones so I have some experience here, this is a public forum, you can take my advice or you can move on, what I won't do is try to convince you against something you appear to have an agenda towards, personally I can say without prejudice or bias that the OnePlus 8 pro is the best phone on the market right now, very few people would argue that point.
Updates are on point, end of story.
A good OEM won't release huge updates because they have nothing to fix, meaning it was done right the first time, a bad OEM will do the opposite, like Samsung releasing a £1500 phone with a camera that won't focus.
Oh wow just saw your end of post, you compared an android device to apple.
Oh dear.
Tell me can you Bluetooth files yet? Is apple still crippling it's OS due to an "update" ?
Don't compare any android device to apple you'll get very little sympathy here in that regard.
Samsung? Really? Exynos processor in the non US variants? And you're supporting them? Anyone who likes android or has an ounce of respect for themselves would boycott them and sign the petition to get Snapdragon in all their phones..
I wouldn't swap my OnePlus if you offered me both the iPhone XS and the ultra.
Lastly I and the absolute vast majority of people have not and do not have any issue with our OnePlus phone.
Fastest phone out not.
Battery life? I get 10 hours SOT consistently, even when gaming.
What issues are you referring to? If it's green tint (see above)
