Video 4k @ 120fps/hz - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

How do you modify system to shoot [email protected]? This is the reason I rooted this phone
Thank you!

Why do you think this is possible?

The hardware is physically incapable of doing such a thing.

Because sony imx689 sensor is basically same as imx789 but imx789 has better 12-bit depth (which I really don't care).
Sony imx689 is on OP8Pro/OP9,
Sony imx789 is on OP9Pro
Maybe OP9Pro has bit better processing. But with modified easier/overclocking bla bla bla rooting it's definitely possible to record at least short 4k120fps videos...

Device is clearly capable just noone made such modification. If you ever do research you'll see your wrong. Also don't forget to keep your intrusive thoughts - if it doesn't helps - don't post it...

Oppo Find x2, OP8Pro, OP9 these are the 3 devices i found wiht this sensor and nobody released a mod to enable this. I cant find the technical data for this sensor.
How do you tell that they are basically the same?

CONFIRMED: Unlocking Bootloader Reduces Camera Quality on Z3C. Is Z2 Affected Too?

So it was confirmed by a Sony employee that unlocking the bootloader on the Z3C results in the loss of advanced camera algorithms which affect low light photography. This had me wondering whether this is the same on Z2?
It seems the algorithms are protected by the DRM keys and once these are lost the functionality becomes limited.
I unlocked my Z2 just before the root exploit and lost my keys. I didn't notice a drop in camera quality, but did anyone else?
Does this put you off buying a Sony device in the future?
Personally I use a DSLR and my phone is just for quick snaps so it's not a big deal, but for some it will be.
Discuss.
Link to confirmation here.
I after purchase of phone reflected to open bootloader, but nevertheless decided to wait there will be root on the closed boot so far, and I made to myself a backup, strange but for some reason when by missing drm keys, xreality dosn't work, and modify supervivid, and the way so far to restore work or to make working supervivid and xreality on the unblocked bootloader isn't present
I dont think this is generaly true unless we have solid evidance becsuse sony only made the quality dim after BLU on Z1 because it protected sonys methods of image proccessing
They made it untouchable in Z2 so why would they revert to lesser tech again
Also that link doesnt fully conferm much, this may potentialy be a hicup from sony
Edit- now that i think about it.. Since it is new camera tech they may have had to do this due to not being able to lock their content like they did with Z2
It is true I experienced myself after I backed up my TA, First thing I did was unlocked the bootloader and checked the camera quality and yes I saw that camera quality was decreased and I earlier mentioned it before and no one believed me lol, Even though if you think that it doesn't with future updates such as 4.4.4 android L you might see the changes of the camera due to permanent lost of DRM. So we gotta find a root method for Z3.

Haha so true man but since Sony mentioned that they are having their bionz thingy tangled with DRM keys, I don't think they'll ever fix. Only thing is that we'll need have locked bootloader always. Even if I'm upgrading to Z3 I'll be patiently waiting for LB root before I unlock it  I hope xscha comes to action. He was the one who actually came up with the method. Great guy he is.

Well drm keys have been an xperia problem for a while and funny enough they souly exist to protect other OEMs from stealing from sony
Not realy there to stop users being users
Lets hope they find a new way to protect their new content
How about relocking the bootloader? Will it restore the image quality?

Can't give you an answer here.Have an ZR and yes it brings the DRM keys back. But for the z2 im not familiar.
I am very, very disappointed about Sony's move. It makes no sense if you come to think of it.
Since I bought it Monday and my country has a strict return policy (good for consumers), I *might* be able to get a new one without explaining what happened.
However, if I can't get a new one, what's the next step? Download a camera mod perhaps?
EDIT: X-Reality WORKS. I am just not sure about BIONZ. And perhaps future Playstation stuff.
Can anyone with a locked bootloader take a picture of a dark room with a candle? That's easy for everyone to reproduce... and we can compare shots.

This also happened to my z3 after BL unlock.. lots of noise on pictures specially in low light shots.
If you come to think about it, it's not thaaat bad. It noises just like an iPhone would do (which, for me, isn't a big deal).
It seems the only thing the DRM does is to apply a filter/denoiser/blur to the pics.
Is this related to BIONZ? If BIONZ is a hardware feature, it's most unlikely that an unlocked bootloader would do anything (unless it's like the Xbox 360 and e-fuses).
X-Reality is pretty lame to be honest. It justs "HDRs" all of your images. Nothing too serious. And it only does that to images and movies, not the UI.
Now I am just concerned about future Playstation features like of that stream thing - remote play for PS4.
@effective: did you do anything to your pics? They seem to miss the EXIF data. I wonder if a Locked Bootloader would produce a different JPEG header?

[REQUEST] [APP] Use Steady Shot on already taken videos

I don't know if this is the right forum where to ask for something like this, but.. it's an great idea, so i think this should happen.
Steady Shot is pretty amazing, when you realise this is only a software stabilisation. So what about to develop an app, that would use for post-processing stabilisation the Sony's native Steady Shot libs? I don't know how this could be done, but i think the easiest way is to force videoplayback in that way, that the "camera app" would think the video is coming from the camera.
Just an idea, but i think many people would appreciate this.

No one knows the Steadyshot algorithm except sony because their own libs is closed source so it cant be used in any other way,I guess you can do some post processing of your videos using apps like sony vegas on your computer...other than that nothing to be done

dayyum. my z3+ dual only 1 month+ old
Lack of fingerprint sensor is the best Z3+ feature for me Z5 premium looks interesting. I wish there was a Z5 ultra with that kind of crazy resolution.
Sony's best android phone! 23mp camera
upupupup
video pulled
So looking at this
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/09/02/sony-xperia-z5/
Is it the same as Z3+ apart from a better processor, finger print and better cam ?
When do you think it will be released as my main question is do i wait for this or go for the Z3+ ? Do people think finger print is going to catch on and be good for anything other than unlocking your screen?
I think Z5 camera will be better. I for Z5.
From a student of photography there wont be much in the extra 3 megapixels unless your doing some high res editing - for taking pics of your first pint on holiday or selfies with the mrs it wouldn't be much different.
I have heard people saying that this processor is no good. Any truth to that?
The difference in the camera isn't just that it's a few megapixels higher in value. The camera sensor is new, and made by Sony for Sony. Judging from what's been said the lenses used will be better, it's got a better aperture etc too.

It seems to me the heat issues that initially appeared on the 810 have been forgotten by many, I can't tell if this is because of the 2.1 revision of the processor fixing the issues or if as some claim, the issues were not that bigger deal and other handsets with different cpu´s also suffer similar issues.
Let´s hope that if there are any issues, sony manages to patch them somehow with heat absorbing materials or any other solution that doesn't rev down the cpu clock.

Question about IMX 398 and further optimizations/OIS

Hello all,
Now that there are so many great devs supporting our device there is a question that i would like to ask.
Is there any possibility to optimize and add OIS through custom roms in the near future?
If i am not wrong the quality on OP3,GP is better(even with google camera) due to their software during the img processing. It would be splendid to have the camera improved even by a small margin.
I also want to clarify that i am not circle jerking about the camera, i am humbly asking if such software upgrade would be possible.
Thanks!
Ois is hardware dependant. Yes, op3 has same sensor, but with ois implemented. You cant have it by some software tweaks
But there is EIS, so electronik stabilization. Maybe this helps?
Thanks for the responses. I havent really make any research regarding mobile phone sensors so i could only guess.
If OIS is out of question due to being hardware dependent, then what about the image processing?
As far as i have seen its mostly software dependent so do you think that we could get better quality ?(i.e better night shots)

Yes it is not activ, bit maybe the devs could integrate it. It should be possible because no extra Hardware is needed.
You need sources and blobs and stuff. Its not that simple, wouldnt bet on it happening. Only realistic way is if leeco themselfes push update with improved quality

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Huawei P20 Pro come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Having trouble with autofocus on the P20 pro in videos. It seems to effectively render the zoom unuseable. Am I doing something wrong? Do I Have a faulty handset?

What kind of trouble exactly? I'd be happy to test if you can give me a scenario.
One thing I have noticed on my end is that slow-mo at x8 and x32 seems to experience some form of "snow" effect on the video, it's not noise in the sense of grain or low video resolution, but actual white / blue pixels scattered throughout the video. In x4 mode this doesn't happen....and I'm pretty sure prior to the 107 upgrade this wasn't present.
Can anyone confirm?

On the one hand as terrible as it is, and don't get me wrong, it really is!
I'm glad that:
1) I've not gone mad
2) I'm not the only one
Clearly it's a software change that has caused the issue, so I hope they can resolve it. I think I'm going to look to find a means of sending this feedback.
Working in the software field myself, and prior to that QA and customer facing fields, I'm well aware that these things can happen. It's just such a shame that when the one thing the phone is touted for seems to be suffering massively
If anyone can post their thoughts, or even workarounds should they find them it'd be massively appreciated.

I was told do hardreset the phone by Huawei which didn't solve the probs with slow-mow (x8 and x32) entirely. There's some kind of little visible improvement but it's still disappointing, especially regarding the price & hype of the phone.
Now, Customer Support asked for my IMEI in order to forward the issue to R&D. (Hm, that firmware-bug depends to/on my IMEI? Prolly not. Just wondering.)

Hmm ok that's interesting...i mean bad batch could be explained if you had the issues on the older firmware. But these issues only appeared when i was updated to the new firmware on my end.
I've not heard back from them yet, might chase again because again hardware defect I'd expect to manifest itself in other shooting modes not just a specific case x8 and x32

Regarding the bad batch possibility, slow-mo in x4 should be affected also, shouldn't it?
Does anyone know if Huawei plans on putting out an update that adds stabilization to 4k video? Kind of like what OnePlus did with the OP5?

I've not had a chance to hard reset I'm afraid.
I honestly believe batch issues, i.e. hardware, would be affected in other camera modes and all slowmo speeds. The camera is fine for everything but two settings in slowmo video, that to me sounds more like a firmware bug than anything.

Hi bouyhy,
Why is very bad video? I know that 4K don't have stabilization. Is there any other bad thing?
I have S8 and im planning to sell it an buy P20 Pro. I just try P20 Pro in store, for a shot time and I like vide, video is much more sharpness then S8 what is better for me. But how I say I try It for very short time. Please can you tell me what was other bad things in video? For stabilization I have DJi Osmo Mobile, I think that will help me a lot.
I had the s8 for almost a year and sell for tge s9 plus and i guarantee you that the s8 is way way better than this p20 pro on video shooting, stabilization sharpness quality dynamic range everything, i own the p20 pro for about 4 weeks now and tried everything the video shooting is too bad, i prefer galaxy s6 or even s5 videos, but if huawe8 cares about his customers they xill push updraes o fux that with selfie shooter too, but for now they did nothing. Personally if you care about videos keep your s8 or go for the pixel 2 or wait for htc u12
