X96 Air identified as phone or tablet, how to fix? - Android TV General

Goodmorning.
Flashed X96 Air to stock rom, but google play identifies it as phone/tablet, but not Android TV. Is there a fix for that? because apps are different for TV and for tabs/phones...

Shield TV Controller Issues (game compatibility problems)

This will be a bit of a rant/cry for help. Caution:
I've about had it with this Shield TV controller. I'm almost to the point of "downgrading" to a Shield K1 tablet and using it in console mode.
My Shield TV controller seems to encounter some sort of compatibility issue on every other game I purchase. Snowboard Party 2 won't let me use the "grab" button at all. Zen Pinball's flappers won't work. And let's not forget that they disabled the mousepad on the controller, which would solve MANY issues with compatibility in games/apps.
Then you add the fact that MANY popular android games that work with the Shield Tablet won't work with the Shield TV. It must be an architecture problem, since both use the same gamepad, right?
I'd root the thing and be on my way but then I won't get wireless controller support, which is a must.
Can anybody help me out or offer some guidance about their experience with this device? It has so much potential and I hate to give up on it.
it's not an architecture problem, it's due to the Shield Android TV running Google's Android TV OS instead of vanilla Android. The result is semi-shoddy support for some apps , and some incompatibilities with others, generally the result of "game made for this device" is dependent whether or not the dev slapped on a tiny chunk of code identifying it as Android TV compatible.
As to the touchpad compatibility issue, it's due to the fact that Google wrote the framework of Android-TV (which is android based) as being a NON-Touch OS which they opted to remove all touch feature compatibility and when Nvidia was either asked by google , or they asked google , to be able to use the Android TV OS , one rule Google's android teams said was that the touchpad feature of the controller was incompatible with the OS. Funny thing is the first 1-2 versions of Android TV didn't disable the touchpad of the controller as a mouse. It actually worked, until an update. I looked into it some months back, and according to some other people who were in talks with tech support from Nvidia, they said it's due to google demanding that there be no touch hardware on an Android TV device and they considered the touchpad on the controller to be a touch device.
the solution of course is to root / hack the shield android tv and flash a more vanilla android ROM , with support for the controller and Nvidia libraries.
for what it's worth, I use a wireless USB mouse and sometimes a keyboard as well, both of which work fine on the shield android tv (stock)
Ugg just came across this issue with Stickman Skate Battle. Odd thing is that it is built for using a controller, it just does not register the Shield controller. It is not a touch based game issue, so it has to be something else.

Just read my solution on GeForce forum, had to unplug my other device from the usb port, as it was registering as player 1... Which really sucks, as I use that (Mele F10 Deluxe) as my main remote for everything nongaming...

Modifying Tablet for Drone App

Hi everyone,
I've just received a Nexus 7 2013 32gb tablet running Marshmallow 6.0.1 specifically for running my new Drone via the DJI Go 4 App .
This tablet/app then connects to the drones controller to receive the DJI Mavic Pro video stream and also switch on certain smart modes etc.
What I would like to do is strip the tablet of most apps to try to optimize it just for this app. Currently the tablet is classed as a recommended device though the video stream has broken up a bit while flying and this caused the app to crash.
Could anyone recommend a rom that would be good for this?
If it doesn't make any difference I will just revert back to the standard 6.0.1 rom it is currently running.
Thanks
Mark

Shield TV and apps comatibility?

Yesterday i bought a new Nvidia Shield TV to replace my old Android TV box. It surprised me that almost all the APKs that i used in my old android TV, crashed as soon as i tried to open them in the shield.
They are all apks from south american tv channels that broadcast their live channels on them (i sideloaded them as they are not in the shield tv play store).
Is this normal? Im using the new Shield Experience 6.0 as i got the shield tv yesterday, so i had no chance to test the previous releases. All this apks worked on my Matricom Q Box amlogic android tv box, and i cant make them work in the Shield.
Is it something about the new Shield Experience update? Or the machine itself is not compatible with this small android apps in general?
Thank you!!!

Does HBO Go work on the Shield Android TV

Hi guys, there is a Android TV version of HBO Go. Is it working for You guys that might have it?
I have Zulu's Full Android ROM on my Shield Android TV and normally I can use either Phone apps or Android TV apps, it has full support for the Shield Remote or I can use my Air Mouse.
The problem I have with HBO Go is, first of all, the app does not seem to fit the screen properly even if I force landscape. Second the air mouse or the Shield Remote does not seem to be able to click the menus. Could be I guess because the screen is not fitting properly?
I would like to know if it's a problem with this ROM or if people using the stock ROM have the same issue

Nvidia Shield TV and Disney Plus Errors

Hello All
I wanted to get a sense of the community. I have 2 shield TV's (2019) and I have 2 MiBox S. The Shields are connected via Ethernet and Mi Box S's connect via WIFI, all with the latest updates on both boxes. I also have 3 Apple TV's (4K) that I go in between as well.
I have noticed specifically on my Shield TV's that some apps, specifically Disney+ and Hallmark (wife loves this one) that I run into tons of errors in streaming. Specifically, Disney+ gives me the dreaded error 83 and I have to turn on and off wifi or most times have to restart. I have found that on my MiBox's and my Apple TV's that I don't get these errors. So I have to think it is a hardware issue and not an app issue.
Is anyone else running into similar issues with the Shields? I am almost to the point of purchasing more MiBox's as I prefer Android TV, but it kills me that a 40 dollar box is giving me a better streaming experience than my expense Shield.
Any thoughts or remedies? Already factory reset both Shields with no changes
