S8 buffering constantly while streaming - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi I have an S8 model SM-G950F that when using data and hotspot to stream to tv it constantly buffers. The software is up to date. In settings for hotspot there is no section for the khz. Now the odd thing. My wife has the exact same model phone. It has the same software update as mine however in hotspot settings there is a section that shows the khz that you can set to a fixed number or auto. This phone does not have any buffering when when streaming to the tv. Both phones have the same carrier and the same plan so there is no restrictions from the carrier. I hope someone can explain this to me as I use my phone data for streaming and didn't want to have to buy a new phone. Thanks in advance.

AT&T connection problem

Hello all, I'll get straight to the problem and not waste any more of your time than needed as I know most of you are very busy.
I got a new HTC TyTN II and I am on AT&T in the US. My problem is that when I try to do something that streams audio or video data it will not do it. I connect to the Wi-Fi and it will do it just fine. I can open web pages and do speed tests till I turn blue, but streaming audio and video are out. I must also point out that because I live in Denver there is no 3G, I am on EDGE.
I have already talked with HTC, but they said I need to talk to the provider since the phone can do it via wi-fi. I went to a local AT&T store and said it might be my plan, they changed it from the MediaMax + 200 to the PDA connect package. I have seen no change and this was about 14 hours ago from this post. The rep also changed out my sim card as I had a Cingular 64K smartsim, they upgraded me to a AT&T 3G sim. They were unable to figure it out and suggested I call AT&T tech support (oh joy). I called and the rep I talked to said that its because I'm using an unbranded phone on the edge, when 3G hits denver this problem should go away, he also mentioned that it happens with most of the 3G phones that AT&T sells. For some reason though, this just doesn't sound right. Technically it could be done. A 64kbit audio stream is easily done via a 200kbit data EDGE connection, so I don't see why they wouldn't allow it. Just seems foolish to block these services if this is true. I just have a hard time believing this is the cause.
I have a few programs that do work, and don't work because of the data issue. Youtube mobile works, it uses a program called "Streaming Media", and the file format is .3gp, but when I stream other data, like from Orb in .3gp, it does not work, even in "Streaming Media". I have another program called Resco Radio, it enables me to listen to Shoutcast radio, but it does not work at all on the edge, on wi-fi it works fine. Then I have xstreamxm.com, they allow me to listen to XM on my mobile device using Windows Media Player. This also does not work.
Programs that do work are Windows Live Maps, Google Maps, Youtube Mobile, and internet surfing. Speed tests are coming in from 174-226kbits/sec from dslreports.com.
Knowing what you know now, what do you think the problem could be? I am open to ANY suggestion, so please write back. Thank you in advance for your time.
Sounds like you need to disable the proxy if you're on the $20 MEdia Maxx plan.
Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330171&highlight=streaming
It was a very simple search for me....
I have searched around the phone and I am not able to locate where to disable the proxy. I searched all the connection settings area and all the connections area. hmmm.....
EDIT - I found it, I had to change the settings on MEdiaNet, not My ISP. MEdiaNet settings are harder to get to which is why I missed them. You can't directly get to them from the connections page, you have to get the settings link while its dialing. I seemed to have gotten it fixed (HOORAY FOR ME! lol)
Thanks Flapjack for pointing out that thread, that really helped.

[Q] Android 3G

Ive been tossing the idea around on whether or not its something to pursue. In my mind it seems somewhat feasible. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 (which from what I can tell is basically a Samsung Galaxy S without a data plan through a carrier) and it is rooted. There are even start-up processes and services for the dial pad and phone (even though its only supposed to me a glorified MP3 player). So with that being said here is my idea...
The original Amazon Kindles came with free 3g connectivity right out of the box (no service plan). I am thinking maybe there would be a way to set up the Galaxy to connect to the Kindles free 3g internet. Maybe mock a Kindle ID to the Galaxy. Even if you did something along the lines of running a Kindle ROM in a VirtualBox type app on the Galaxy for server authentication.
What do you guys think????
I am new to the Android world but not new to computers or hacking (by hacking I dont mean black hat. I mean modifying things to suit your needs ie. rooting).
The Galaxy Players don't actually have a cellular baseband. The package's position on the board isn't populated. Thus, it's completely impossible for the Galaxy Player to connect to a cellular network.
The reason the phone and dialer bits are still present is they are core to Android and can't be removed easily.
ok what about tethering the kidles 3g to wifi???
The Kindle's 3G is only usable to download books. The connection is very restricted, and you really can't do anything with it. Obviously, if the operator detects excessive traffic on an account only intended to download eBooks, your access would be killed pretty fast.

[Q] Question about ATT Smart Wifi app

Hi
I introduce myself as a brand new G2 owner coming from mega-rooting my S2 E4GT.
In playing with the phone, I came across the ATT Smart wifi app, which perhaps sounds fancier than it really is.
Since we are on a limited data plan, we all know to connect to our wifi network as soon as we get home. The limited description of this app, makes it sound like it will connect me to my home network as soon as it detects it. Fine. But does that mean that it will keep scanning for wifi all day until it finds my network? Or do I have a way to limit that somehow?
Thanks for the help

Suddenly no Mobile Network connection

I have an Erisin 6046B HU in my BWW e46. I got the 3G dongle from Erisin when I bought the HU which connects via USB, and then used a SIM from iD Network in that.
It all worked perfectly yesterday - I was downloading apps and browsing in the car. But today - no network connection. Weirdly, there's no settings in the unit about mobile network - unless you use the search function and search 'network' - there you can access the network settings but its all greyed out. What I could do, was reset the network settings. But this didn't help.
I checked the SIM online and I still have plenty of data left, and iD say the SIM is active.
I'm wondering if its anything to do with me installing a dialler app (Drupe) and trying to make a call with it? I just wanted to see if that would work, out of interest - but it seemed to do something to the unit when it dialled. Afterwards the DAB app was completely silent, and only started working again today. Could I have broken the unit somehow by trying to dial out from a dialler app?!
I'm thinking the obvious step is to factory reset it.. which is annoying as I've just got it all set up perfectly!
Any other ideas?

Tethering price information
Please note that we do not allow tethering on any of our current plans.
That's your problem

Thanks, but I'm not tethering. The SIM is directly in the unit and was working as a normal sim. I'm not tethering at all.
And if it was that, why would it work for a day just fine?

anybody having issues with the handoff between WiFi and LTE?

If Im listening to Spotify at work or something and I'm connected to WiFi if I turn off WiFi and use LTE it doesn't know what to do I'm in a state of having LTE but it won't allow me to connect to anything unless I reboot. I'm using a TMobile version converted to OOS 9.0.12 rooted with magisk. The only thing I'm thinking is I'm using adguard as a VPN and I feel that might be messing up the handoff.
Any thoughts and help are appreciated I thank you in advance
Same problem.

Cool it's not just me
I noticed the same thing when steaming with Aimp. It's not a problem in general. Aimp is the only app in my lineup that does that. Data works, as I can browse and whatnot, even though Aimp is not detecting the switch. When switching to data, I just shutdown Aimp, wait a minute or two and fire it up again. I played around with the mobile data always active option in developer options but it didn't help.
Tmo convert - 9.0.13
It happens way before for me even in t-mobile firmware. I also did convert from t-mobile to one plus firmware with every setting retain. The handoff between LTE and wifi is very slow(The only good handoff experience i ever have for LTE and wifi is from Samsung, it switch immediately when wifi is lost). The 6T keeps hanging onto the wifi signal even when it really low and doesn't have a connection. The reverse would also apply, the 6T try to connect to known wifi and hand off too early and the connection got cut. I use youtube vance it a take some time for the connection to reconnect or I have to manually refresh, the same situation for other apps.
I just tried switching while streaming a YouTube video. The handoff was immediate when switching back and forth a few times. I'm convinced it's just certain apps that get hung up.

For me manually switching does happen immediately with youtube, it the problem when driving and you can't do that. My 6T will try to hang onto my wifi signal until it goes down to one bar and connection got cut off, then it switches. However during the hanging onto the wifi signal portion there are no connection. I do have smart switch enable.
well think I figured out the handoff issue at least my problem, using adguard as a VPN was messing with the handoff after pausing it the handoff is instantaneous
I have a similar issue when I'm at work I use Wi-Fi but when I leave work and I'm out of range of Wi-Fi it doesn't switch over to LTE a lot of times it'll just show you know my full signal but it doesn't say LTE and I have no internet then the only way I found the fix it is by rebooting my phone does anybody know how to maybe correct this and by the way I'm not using any VPN or any weird apps
I experienced the same thing when I was on T-Mobile service. About a month ago I switched back to Verizon and noticed the handoff was much faster to the point where you didn't notice and apps didn't notice. Not sure if it matters but when I switched to Verizon I was running the oneplus 6 pixel expirence caf build and still am right now.
I pretty much stopped using wi-fi. I don't use a lot to begin with. Straight Talk boosted their data limit to 25GB a few months ago. Even with streaming, I never get even close to going over. Before, I use to have wi-fi auto switch turned on, but never noticed a problem with it switching between wi-fi and LTE.
