I was not able to hear calls from my earpiece, so got it checked from a repair shop. But, it's working perfectly. I factory reset the device and the issue still persists, meaning it's not a software issue either. Where can the problem lie and how can I resolve the issue?

My herald suddenly stopped ringing when I received a call, it wouldn't play any sounds at all. Even WMP stopped working. I soft reseted, and it started ringing again. But then when I made or received calls, it was stuck in speakerphone mode regardless of whether the loud speaker is on or off. Also, activesync stopped working. I have tried soft reset, hard reset, and ROM flash off SD card, but the problem still persists. It seems like a hardware problem, I'm assuming the sound device and the USB device are on the same piece of internal hardware, which is obviously faulty. Is there anything I can do or must I send it in for repairs?
I have the exact same problem, did you ever find a solution?
I have the same problem. And because of this i cant flash back stock SPL
i had the same problem.but i told tmobile and they sent me a new one for free
I had this exact same problem (at least the no sound and speakerphone always on parts) on my last phone before I got the Wing, the Dash. It was a hardware problem and started when i dropped the phone one time. I had to get a new phone.
I tried using a handfree and the phone works completely fine, just when on its own I cannot hear from the other side. The other side can hear me though.
I used the phone on its own one night, then without dropping it or whatever that earpiece just failed to work in the morning the other day. I tried hard reset and even ROM flash. How likely this issue to be a software crash?
Thanks!

I had exactly the same issue, had to send it to repair. Still waiting for it to come back.
Wonder anyone got this problem, make outgoing call or incoming call, no voice from internal speaker. But if I press "Speaker On" during call I can hear the voice of the other party.
Playing music song playback sound ok, only during call conversations , both outgoing & incoming, I can't hear any sound unless I turn the speaker-phone on.
seems there is a problem in the phone speaker, though the main speaker is working properly.
Tried hard reset and also changed the SIM, but to no avail.
Any advice? Thanks.

My problem has been solved. I had created a backup of my system with SPB backup and it restored my phone back.
I think the problem arose after installing oldSAP speaker phone, which routed the incoming and outgoing call audio via speakerphone.
However, I cant understand that if it was a software problem, why could'nt it be solved by Hard reset.
Any suggestions ?

My problem with the phone speakers resurfaced, sometimes they behaved and sometimes did'nt, thereby forcing me to turn the speakerphone on for listening to calls.
I finally took my phone to a nearby Mobile Repair Shop. The mechanic told me that it was a common problem in most phones and the only way out was to change the phone speakers. The speakers available were Chinese ones for Rs 150 and what he called original ones for Rs 300. I opted for the latter and he replaced the speakers within 5 minutes, whether he changed the speakers or just refittted the Originals after cleaning? I do'nt know. However, problem solved since then.
I have same problem for about 5months which was described in the first post, and can't solve this problem...any help?
I am also facing the exact problem!!! It was working fine until I accidently did the factory reset... now I have installlllled OS many times with diff vrs. & from stock to diff customized roms but the problem still persists!!!! wondering wat happened!!
The earpiece on my Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720) does not work, so I cannot hear calls (or any other audio that uses the earpiece). The other person on the call can hear me fine and speakerphone and headphones work. I bought the phone used, so it seems like it would be a hardware problem, except for the fact that I am able to make it work by opening HwModuleTest (dial *#0*#) and pressing the receiver button. This creates a tone through the earpiece and the problem goes away until for a while, only to come back at seemingly random intervals, or when I reboot. All this was happening with the stock firmware (4.4.2).
I then switched to CyanogenMod 11 M12 (4.4.4), because I do not like the stock OS and because I hoped it might solve this problem. Unfortunately, the problem still remains, but I now have no way to mitigate it at all because CyanogenMod does not have HwModuleTest or something similar as far as I know.
I found a few similar problems on the internet, but they were are either unresolved or the solution did not work for me. A common cause was that the phone falsely detected that headphones were plugged in, but I don't think this is the problem because I used the SoundAbout app (as recommended in one case) to force the use of the earpiece and this did not fix the problem.
I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem or has any ideas of you to solve it. Thanks.I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem or has any ideas of you to solve it. Thanks.
Bump. Does anyone ever heard of this problem before?
Hi recently i have quite complicated problem with my note 4. Problem started to occur couple weeks ago. I couldn't be heard even if I shouted when making calls. only loudspeaker worked. While recording voice and playedback the sound was very weak. I have performed factory reset and cleared cache partition but it didn't work.
Yesterday when I made a call I suddenly could have been be heard but again loudspeaker didn't work. Very frequently during the call my voice dissappeared so the other person couldn't hear me but when I have turned the loudspeaker on and off immediately I could have been heard for a while. I had to do this few times during the call but my microphone somehow worked for short periods. So to me it seems like it's more like a software issue rather than hardware. Hopefully. Altough it's weird the factory reset didn't help.
Appreciate any advice altough it is dodgy one I guess.
If a full reset didn't work it sounds like you have some kind of short or other hardware issue. Just what I'd assume from what you've said.

I have read that somevery of the software issues can be fixed by flashing the phone and even factory reset won't help I hope there may be other solution than hardware issue
