I am considering purchasing the x7501 as there are more custom roms for it. What kind of themes does it use? Do I use VGA games or are there device specific games for it? I have tons of WM 6/6.1 software on my wizard-Do I just install them on the Athena? Thanks everyone! Looks like a wicked device!

As with almost any windows mobile device, pretty much any software you have for one will work for another, unless you downgrading to like 2003.
Since the device is a windows mobile device, it will use the same themes as your Wizard running wm6/6.1. The only time you need to worry about vga is when you are running in 96 or 128 mode which is the real vga settings. I use to use 128 but have since switched to 192 dpi which is the original resolution. It is a good device, but make sure you are going to use all the features and don't expect wicked fastness because it doesn't have that, although some of the roms have really helped out with that issue.
I hope this helps a little.
Hello guys !
I will receive my new tablet Nexus 7 in the following days. I don't have any knowledge on Android (I've an iPhone 4 jailbreaked + many tweaks etc ...) so that's totally new for me, and i need some help.
I'll use that tablet for studing, gaming , surfing etc ...
The fact is that i want to have totally access to my tablet (like iFile on iPhone) , the SSH, install tweaks , some cracked apps , install themes and have a really fast tablet (where i can oc if in need).
I probably think that i'll root it , but i don't know the differences and the benefits between the root, unlock , ,and all these ROMs/kernels etc... (i'm french so i don't understand all on these operation, and i don't want to brick my tablet =/ )
So i'd like to know what do you recommend to me ? Do i just need to root the tablet and that's all ? To unlock ? Or try to install another rom to respond better to my demand ?
Also , do any update will erase my "root" as the same as the iPhone jailbreak ?
Thank you very much
Don't do anything for the first week or so except read XDA.
This is not Apple, you can already install an SSH client (e.g. ConnectBot) many useful apps, even apps that are not from the Google Play store (if you allow "Unknown Sources") and the N7 is fast enough that you don't need to overclock it.
So just enjoy and learn.

Dont ask for cracked apps (sounds illegal)

I recommend you pay for your apps and support the developers. And unlike iOS devices, you don't need to root to do any of that. (Freedom!)
like what the others said, take your time, get used to Android. once you do, and feel that it lacks in some areas that root can solve easily (e.g. plugging in a USB thumb drive to expand the tiny 8 GB storage), then go ahead and root it!
Get used to android first. Get could comfortable with it. Then do lots of reading. And after you learn how to root and unlock the bootloader then watch some videos on YouTube. DroidModderX is a good source I think. After that you should root and unlock it

Thank's all for your reply !!
The fact is that i don't want to waste my time on installing, formating , reinstalling lots of things. I've take the time to read, and seen many tweaks and good applications that i'll can't use if my tablet is not rooted, so i wondered what was the best option for me. I like to change the OS and find usefuls things that the stock OS can't do. Ex: There's no Micro/SD port card ,so i will probably need to root the tablet and buy a cable!
So i think that i'll just root my tablet with the nexus root toolkit just to see if it works good and if i don't need anything else.
And maybe later i'll try to install another rom. I don't know what kind of benefits i could draw from it , but i'll try
Hi I was just wondering if there are any other smartphones out there that are very hackable like the htc leo(hd2) i am looking to get a phone to play with, i know the hd2 can host windows 6,7 and android but can any other do the same?
thanks in advance
Gary
I think your best bet would be a nexus device to be honest. Hackable devices ate hard to come by nowadays. Sony would also be worth looking into as they try to work closely with other developers.
Edit: For hardware hacking they should all be the same ...
I would recommend the Nexus 4, it is hard to open the hardware up but you can easily root and flash ROM's on it.

Hello to all...
I'm working some months by now, in a mobile games developing company (for both iOS & Android).
So, I had to own both OS' devices, to testing my work of our games (in the devices); I bought a used iPhone 4 16GB and now I need to buy an Android one. I've checked and a nice 'n cheap Android's choice is about $150 or so.
Well, I thought to use my former device, a TMobile USA HD2, to port a NAND Android rom.
The problem is, I stopped dealing with my ex-HD2 since I had ported the "Energy" WM6.5...
So, I don't know what's the process to port a NAND Android rom - I mean a modern one, a new build.
Also, I need a suggestion for such a rom; I want a very stable & fast one, "all-in" rom. I don't want to deal with the Android, I won't start searching for apps and such - just I need a fast/stable/"completed" Android device, to install our games there and checking my work.
Kind regards to everyone who likes to help me on this issue.
Hello and welcome,
First, please use a descriptive title
The HD2 is quite an old device, so if you are to build heavy games, don't expect them to run on the HD2, or at least run well.
As for the ROMs, almost all the roms on the first page (ICS) are fully working, just make sure to double check the first few posts to know what's going on. And you can find how-tos almost everywhere, a quick search on google/youtube will help you.
Good luck in everything .
Thxs for your answer.
M8, I'm working on CASINO's games. Therefore, are not so "heavy".

If you want a complete rom try Tytung NexusHD2 Ics 4.0.4 rom.
It is the best rom you will get for tmous hd2.
I am using the same rom and very happy with it. :good:
I did, thxs - but not the "HD", the "ice-cream" of him.
The other one is more "new", maybe more slow for the "good-old" HD2.

Elaborate? I love mine!
If by love you mean acceptance by the unwashed masses then no.
If by love you mean custom roms up the wazoo then no.
If by love you mean some people here actually caress it to sleep, I'm sure there are some who do.
No roms!!!!! This is a great device, how come???

Gotta remember the device is only a few months old.
I think a lot of rom developers may have been waiting for Lollipop. We may see an upswing in new roms being released now that the cat is out of the bag.
Whatever happens I hope we can get a rom with working wi-fi and all other functionality, and working Nvidia apps!

We will probably get some aosp goodness pretty soon but I highly doubt we will ever get dabbler and other proprietary Nvidia apps. Those apps are original creations from Nvidia and it wouldn't make much sense for them to release that code for anyone to download and modify. As much as I would like to have those apps on custom roms, it just won't happen.

Further on that, a lot of rom makers probably aren't bothering because most people with the Shield want access to the proprietary apps, I would not install a custom rom on this tablet because of GRID and what not.

Yeah I agree this is probably part of it. The few Roms that have come out have tons of people posting asking for Nvidia apps. I could be biased here but generally people didn't seem very interested/great full for the work some developers have done for this tablet. Personally, I don't use dabbler, and I don't use an Nvidia controller I just use a nyko, so I very much appreciate the customs Roms available for the shield. Also I'm pretty sure they got grid working, FYI. The shield tablet simply does not appeal to the crack flashing and hacking consumer base, as such very few developers will purchase the tablet. Really the only thing this tablet has going for it it terms of android development is that it is nearly aosp. If we really want to see some movement we should find a developer who is willing and able and start a donation fund to buy said developer a shield tablet. If we could get a solid build of CM12 I think many other roms could be built from it.
For me its not really a custom ROM that I would prefer was in development, it would be more of a custom kernal, over clock, undervolt, processor profiles, different schedulers, I/O hacks, graphics settings, hotplugs etc Think synapse for shield tablet. But suppose we would probably need kernal source to make a great custom kernal. I do use kernal tweaker. Although, scheduler changes min processor clock doesn't stick (gets over ridden by settings)
Totally agree

I agree with you and previous comments on nvidia original apps and features, seriously no bloatware on this device. I wouldn't want to change rom but would love to customise. I was rooted via towel root but not after the update, I don't have issues with unlocking the bootloader but since I won't be flashing rom's don't see why I should. Plus have not seen a way to completely return to stock if anything happens no warranty. I would love to getting exposed installer up and running and have gravity box working (even though that was for kiktkat). But guess I will have to wait.
To bad it's being parked since I might have to unlock the bootloader if nothing comes up and wipe this bad boy clean.
(don't really know of how to do a back up without custom recovery)
On the Nvidia apps issue, couldn't they be backed up to external SD before installing a custom rom, and then restored afterwards? Don't know enough about how Android works to know if such a thing is possible.
I do use the Shield controller and so I would at least like that to be functional. The only reason I'd want a custom rom is all the additional features, optimizations, and tweaks that come along with a good custom rom.
A pre-rooted stock based ROM with tweaks, perhaps an aroma installer with a menu of choices, also an optimized kernel would be great. This tablet is nearly perfect as it is, but some small fixes would make it really perfect. Sadly, I'm no developer...

Xposed Installer, you can basically tweak anything if your rooted, gives you all the options in most custom rom's like Liquid Smooth, Mahdi Rom, Viper Rom and way more options than CM11, but you have to download certain types of files so a custom rom would be more efficient and a one stop for everything. But its a great solution to keep all of what nvidia has to offer.
I just want to re-root without unlocking bootloader. Or if there is a way to s-off so I can "Lock" the bootloader and not "relock" then I can take the normal way to root.
And regarding your suggestion I dont think that is possible since they are not apps that you can download all the files if you extract them they wont work. You can try to save them from your nvidia and download to your phone, see if that works. But I dont think it will.
I use xposed on some of my other devices but unfortunately xposed doesn't work with ART so if you upgrade to lollipop you're SOL on those awesome tweaks for the time being.

But yea guess will have to wait and see what I can do because I really Dont want to change ROM's at the moment, guess I will have to stay stock for a while.
