I recently bought Pumpkin head unit to my Audi A3. HU itself is quite nice, fits like original, and software is surprisingly good and stable (I had some doubts but decided to buy it anyway). Problem is that there is no ACC wired in car's connectors, instead original unit is powered off via CAN. Now, when I turn off the engine, HU powers off too, while it should stay on, and power off when I pull the key from ignition switch. This means, I can't listen music without having all ignition powers turned on. I earlier had an Alpine HU, and it worked perfectly, eg. powered off when I pulled key from ignition switch.
Is there any way to tweak this behaviour in android side? Or is this CAN decoder's job? Other than powering off, CAN controls seems to work ok (multifunction wheel, dimming, etc).
Details from my unit are: RK3188, KLD6, 800x480. CAN-bus decoder doesn't have much info, just KLD(AUDI-SS-01), SS-AD011030158-0.

Mine came with a harness that tied into my canbus, I'm sure your unit has the capability you probably just need the decoder that is specific to your vehicle. On a side note I to have a RK3188 800x480 and am looking for someone to pull the stock recovery. If you're willing let me know it won't harm your unit.

Don't know about the decoder, it should be ok, at least there's "For: AUDI A3/A4" in it. Tried to google it, I can find lot's of same looking decoders, but not much helpful info about it.
I can pull the stock firmware, just need to learn how to do it. I've been doing electronics and linux stuff for ages, but Android world is still bit new to me.

Since I still have so low post count, I can't post links. Google "11-C1217-UK-A" and you will find correct HU from Pumpkin's website.
I sent question to Pumpkin too, and an answer from them: "it's normal when you turn the ignition key to off position the unit will switch off, cause the unit switching off is controlled by your car canbus system, and it sync with your car instrument panel".
Still, I don't consider this as a normal, since Audi OE head unit, and also earlier Alpine head unit didn't power off until I actually took the key off from the ignition switch. All Audi's I have and have had behaves like this, from the oldest Audi 80 (1994) to the newest.
So, is there any ways to analyze CAN data, and tweak the unit so that it would power off when key is taken away from ignition switch?
Dave, sorry I still don't have the recovery image, so busy days, and I'm missing USB cable to connect to the unit. But ADB is installed etc, so it will come eventually

No rush whenever you have time my unit is working just no recovery.
I think I remember reading in the HU Q&A thread a way to change canbus options I'll try to find it.

Hi sohlo....
I haven't answer for your prob, but i just want to say that my Greenyi HU run exactly like you suggest.......if i turn off, the HU still ON, and switch off only if i keep the keys out from the ignition.
So, it's possible.....but don't know how...sorry.....

Hi there, ive recently installed the same on my A3 (well an android head) can you tell me the age of yours and what loom connector you bought? some of them mix the live and ignition live up and they just need swopping over.
PS are your rear speakers working? took me ages to fix mine

My A3 is 2005. I have ISO connectors (non-BOSE), since originally my A3 is single din and I converted it to double din. I have checked wires again and again, they seem to be fine. Permanent live goes where it should, and ACC hasn't been wired at all in car side, because of CAN power off. You have same Pumpkin HU?
My rears are working OK, I just have to set fader quite heavily to back, like 70-80%. I had the same problem with earlier Alpine unit, had to set fader way back.

It seems that your unit is KGL/HuiFei (mine's KLD/Klyde), so there's propably some differences. Also CAN adapter might be different. Can you confirm this?

Good to hear. I still haven't been able to get adb detect my unit, actually when I connect usb, even lsusb doesn't show anything. I have tried to turn on adb in the unit (adbon), but still no luck. Well, will continue to try

I think the only way is to use adb over WiFi.
If you need to root your HU this is the method I used
Flashing a pre-rooted rom doesn't seem to be the only way any more. If you go to Settings->Factory Settings, and enter**#hct#root#* as the password, it enables root on the device.
This appears to be a permanent root which persists after reboots.

So it seems, at least usb was all dead for adb. Need to study more, first time ever trying to debug Android.
Actually, seller agreed to accept return and refund the unit, so I might switch to HuiFei/KGL unit if I just get a confirmation that it works better. Now I just would like to know if this CAN issue is because of the CAN bus decoder, or because of unit configuration. It was mentioned earlier that GreenYi unit works, and it seems to be KGL, but then again, I don't know is it decoder or unit which makes the decision of power off.

That is strange, with it set to Audi does it stay on until you pull the key out? There's also a steering wheel mapping utility in factory setting I believe have you tried changing that with Audi selected? Make sure you take a screen shot of your original settings.

I ordered this from the CarJoying website.
https://www.carjoying.com/2-din-car...-bluetooth-dab-wifi-mirror-link-obd2-nfc.html
It took less than 1 week to arrive and it also had postage tracking details.
I installed this into my 2016 Toyota Fortuner (Australian model). Below you can see a picture of what the original head unit looks like. It's about 8-9 inches and I didn't want to install it using the original facia because there would be a very big gaping hole around the headunit. You can find 2Din facias on EBay and Aerpro webiste

I didn't want to cut up the original wiring harness on the car so I bought the following harness from the Car Joying website. 3 of the plugs were not required for my car and I had to re-wire SWC1 and SWC2 into the correct wires
https://www.carjoying.com/joying-ha...-radio-installation-wiring-harness-cable.html
I also used this 24pin plug for the reverse camera. The Toyota camera uses 5V (not 12v). I had to tap this into the reverse wire in the wiring harness I bought. Like I said earlier, I didn't want to touch the car harness.

I had to modify the original mounting brackets to remove the locating bumps so that it would fit the new head unit. I don't have pictures of what I did, but you can see the original mounting brackets here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i9neetzctpu2h7p/IMG_20160618_134150.jpg?dl=0

Some items of note with this head unit.
1.) I initially had some issues with install apps from the Play store. Something error about "Cannot install to SDCard or internal memory". I used a paper clip to reset the unit and it seems to have fixed it.
2.) Wireless signal strength is weaker than my older 7" 2Din Android 4.4.4 headunit. My other car has one like this https://www.carjoying.com/2-din-car...th-and-gps-navigation-rotate-menu-hd-800.html and it seems to get faster download speeds and signal strength.
3.) The launcher cannot be changed. You're stuck with 2 options only
4.) The "factory settings password" is 3368 - None of the information documented here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Hui_Fei_Type#Factory_Settings_.22Passwords.22 is relevant to this new unit
5.) I much prefer the old menu system. If you watch here https://youtu.be/W-Q3qz0dgd0?t=377 you'll notice a separate app is launched to get to the headunit specific settings. In my other headunit, all these settings are embedded into the normal Android Settings App. This application has a lot of toggles for settings that have lost their translation from Chinese to English. None of toggles are documented so you'll find yourself switching stuff on/off trying to figure out what's changed.
6.) No root Unit can be rooted using Kingoroot. I used an older version but it worked
7.) All things aside, it's actually a very good head unit. I've only had it in for 1 day but it's done everything it's supposed to do
Here are some pictures of the system information

Hi,
my Radio arrived yesterday.....
I've rooted the unit and installed Xposed (Youtube in background, Youtube Adaway, ....)
Everything is working good.
Now I am looking to install a custom Rom on it (DSA Rom)....lets see -> there is a problem with the MCU....its not compatible with the "other" Roms here on XDA
I found this website to have some useful info that is related to this unit
http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=738689&st=180
I used Chrome to auto-translate from Russian to English. It's not perfect, but it's good enough.
The videos here are also somewhat relavant
http://www.witson.com/en/introduce001.html?newsTypeID=100022485&newsType=Video F9XXX Android 4.4
Not sure of the ROMs/MCUs here are relevant, not willing to try yet

It seems i have the same mcu as you, my radio is a 10.1" screen single din.
Have you got a link that you used to root the device?
Im new to android and its all a bit foreign to me.
Ive just started a thread as i couldn't find any info on my unit and then i found your thread.
Things id like to change about my device is
- get rid of mute in reverse
- get rid of the car picture in reverse
- be able to play an apps (foxtel go) that says it won't play on a rooted device (if possible)
- increase the amount the screen can dim or be able to turn the screen off
does rooting allow you to change any of the above?
thanks

get rid of mute in reverse should be easy. Go to Settings and there is an option in there somewhere, I think it is Car Settings. There are options to Mute on reverse, or lower the volume, or just leave it regular. At least that is how my Joying works.
Not sure what you mean by get rid of car picture?

yeah that option is there but it doesn't change anything the mute still works.
unfortunately i can't post links until I'm above 10 posts, seems you can't upload pictures here without a link. But there is a diagram of a car when the reverse camera comes on, I've been able to get rid of the reversing guide lines but not the car picture.

If you're new to Android, I suggest you don't root it until you're familiar.
To answer your questions
1.) I've not tried, I like the music muted when I put it in reverse
2.) There is a setting in the Car Media Settings App. I'll find it and update this post
3.) I can't help you there, I don't have Foxtel Go.
4.) There is a Sleep functions in Settings->Display that will allow you to turn the screen off after X minutes of inactivity.

To remove the car picture when you put it in reverse, launch the Car Media Settings app, press the 3rd button from the left on the bottom row of options. Enter 3368 as the password, set the setting "Car Radar" to off.

Thank you, joying actually responded with that today.
Also managed to get the volume working in reverse. There was two settings "reverse mute" or something like that had to be turned off and then there was a mute in reverse setting that had to be set high not low - reverse to what I thought.

Does that mean, it is currently not possible to update this unit to 5.1.1 with Malaysk ROM? Just thought about ordering this one, but if it is not possible to upgrade to 5.1.1 then probably I will wait...
Also on the Joying page this unit is listed as "PX3 1.8GHz Cortex A9", while most (all?) other units are listed as "RK3188 1.6GHz Cortex A9". Is there a performance difference between these SoCs? What is your boot time with this unit?
Actually the performance is excellent, but indeed it's not upgradable with Android 5.1 now because of total different hardware, unit will die if u try what I have been told.

Hi all, I recently purchased a Bonroad 8.8" android head unit for a BMW 3 series.
Everything works great, except I cannot find where to enter the extra menu.
I'm having a few issues and their response time has been slow.
My car is a manual, but the head unit thinks its an automatic. The problem is when I shift into reverse I cannot get the reverse camera to appear on screen.
Second is i'm trying to change the screen resolution so the original BMW menu is not cut off.
It is currently running android 10.0. Does an MCU file exist anywhere that I can flash it to get access to the extra menu?
Thanks!

I got “instructions” from the seller on changing the resolution, but I cannot access the so-called advanced settings. I cannot see my oil level anymore on the iDrive! I don’t want to get a low oil warning. I cannot change from km to mph. I get BT warnings in Chinese as well (it is funny and not really an annoyance).
Wondering has anyone seen this problem, I have the bonroad android screen for f30. When I open the door a 3 series comes up but when I go into reverse camera a 1 series comes up?
Hello all,
I really hope someone could help me out or point into right direction.
I bought a 10 inch CIC android screen from alie and installed it. However the original infotainment system of the car is not showing. Shows just a black screen.
The rest of the android functions seem to work. Car buttons like menu, nav, radio etc, seem to be working but the knob joystick doesn’t work probably also.
When I plug back the original screen, it works just fine.
i read that I need to change the car type in the factory setup, however my unit doesn’t have factory setup menu.
Any idea how to open it? Or could there be another issue?
Thank you guys in advance for any help you can give me
Edit: the seller won’t respond
Not MTCB, have requested Mod moves to Android head units forum, but is unable to move this thread.
Is there not a "Factory" item on your first menu, The password to get in can be 1-3-1-4 But first of all I would double chack you have fitted all the connections properly

You can change the solution look in youtube theres a few tutorials
Hello,
Recently I bought an Android PX5 head unit from AliExpress. I successfully installed it and set it up. After a while I found out, that the AutoSeek function on the default Radio app doesn't catch any local stations. However, when i tune in the frequency manually, the radio station is tuned in and sounds clearly. I decided to find an alternative, NavRadio. Which worked well, but after a restart of the unit, when I opened the NavRadio app, it opened both radio apps and sound came just from the default app.
As I scrolled through the NavRadio settings I saw an option to replace the default Radio app. As I pressed it, it showed me a warning, that my device has to be rooted in order to do that.
I then did some research and found some tutorials on how to root a PX5 unit, but it was for older versions of Android.
My question is, can I use a tutorial for an older Android system? If not, what would you suggest me to do?
Thanks for the answer,
Mark

Mostly all PX5 units can be rooted really simple.
But to see what we are talking about - by the way... the link does not work - we need just these pictures.
Make sure you got all information visible there.

I took some pictures of the "About" page on the unit, since I don't know the button combination for a screenshot.

Okay, unfortunately this is one of these units which are not yet supported fully..
Just search for your MCU version: MF1 you will find some more information about these units.
First of all I would send you to this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/firmware-for-mcu-mf1.4273219/
As you can read there, they even have not found any good solution. If I would be you, I would participate there and you may look if your unit is really Android 11... I fear it is not. May be something to start with.

Thanks a lot,
I already posted a message about my problem there. I am hoping to see a solution. As i noticed, someone already found a firmware. I'm wondering if it would be suitable for my device. Someone also mentioned messaging the AliExpress seller, maybe I will try.
A little off topic here. But which backup camera did you use with the unit. The one the seller sent with mine isn't working and the seller don't seem to have a solution.

I used an AliExpress backup camera (https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtyJI5I) made specially for my car model. It has a dynamic trajectory function. I hooked it up and it works well. As i shift into reverse the display automatically switches to the backup camera mode. I attach an amateur diagram of how I connected the cables.
First, I connected the red wire from the video cable (on the camera end) with the red voltage cable from the camera, then I took both the black wire from the camera and the 2 connected red wires and I soldered them to the reverse light voltage cables by color (red to red, black to black (in my case white was the negative)). At the head unit I connected the yellow cinch video cable to the "Reverse Camera" connector on the unit and I soldered the red wire from the video cable to the red "Back-car" cable on the unit.
I didn't have to set anything, it worked right away, but as I've seen in some videos they had to allow an option in the "Factory Settings" in the setting app. The code to the "Factory Settings" should be 0000 (in my case it was). Just scroll through the settings and find something that would solve your problem.
I hoped I explained it right, if there is anything more I can help you with, you can continue in this thread.

Hello,
Sorry for my late response to your reply. I've been looking into my problem better and as I found out from other replies, it wouldn't be possible to root this firmware. After some time I got a response from the AliExpress seller and he sent me the newest firmware file they had. You mentioned me sending you the firmware, so I am attaching it. Please tell me if it would be possible to root.
Thanks,
Mark
