I would like to root and install custom rom on pixel 4 android 12 hoping someone can help me as I’m pretty new to rooting devices. I would like to make my device as secure as possible with a custom rom. I’m not sure if I’m meant to root the device before installing recovery (twrp) and rom or vice Versa. I was able to successfully root it with magisk and when I installed the recovery and rom it got stuck in boot loop. My device has a/b partition and I think that may be the issue. I’m not sure if I’m meant to have it on same partition or if it can be separate.
If some one can give me some advice would be much appreciated

Hello XDA,
I need some instruction on how to root and install cwm recovery on my nexus player. I’m currently trying to achieve this with a live boot of bbqlinux for sdk support. I managed to unlock the bootloader. I tried to gain root by installing SuperSu from the app store, but no dice. If anyone can give me insight on what commands/directories/steps needed to accomplish this, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have all the files I need on the internal storage of the device.
Thanks
UPDATE - Bootloader is unlocked. When I try to boot the root.img, i get a softbrick and sent back to the bootloader. USB Debugging and unknown sources on.
UPDATE - I was unable to gain root privilege with the stock rom. Soo, I flashed cm12.1 N. Took two flashing, but it lives.
I am no noobie when it comes to android rooting since I root and flash all of my android devices. But the axon 7 is a really tough son of a b*tch.
I got it brand new. Unlocked the bootloader then proceeded to update to marshmallow just so I can get nougat on my device. Then I installed TWRP so I can flash supersu, xposed and an audio mod zip. I believe this audio mod is what killed my devices since it was not booting into the os. Just stuck at the flashy axon booting screen. I booted into TWRP, deleted data, system and system storage and installed the nougat 2,6gb "update.zip" file. Since then the os is not booting at all, its just stuck at the booting screen, the warning because of the unlocked bootloader. And also, now, stock recovery is installed.
I have an idea how to fix this I am rather cautious so thats why Im asking the experts here first
EDIT: I have the 2017G Version
I have an A2017U, but if you can get your hands on an official Marshmallow zip, then that should hopefully let you boot. From there you can OTA update back to Nougat, then you just need to figure out how to install TWRP again.
Another recovery method is to flash EDL files with MiFlash while your phone is booted into EDL mode.
As for audio mods, I just use Arise, it's very comprehensive and has never bricked my phone.
I have an idea why you can't boot after flashing the Nougat zip: you triggered dm-verity. You must also flash a root zip that patches out the dm-verity. Or you can use @jcadduono's "no verity opt encrypt" zip as an alternative if you don't want to root. Your system and cache partitions should be formatted as ext4, and data should be F2FS. I recommend a full wipe of all partitions except the MicroSD.

If you still have TWRP, download Raystef66's B09 TWRP flashable Stocksystem and Bootstack, plus Magisk 15.2. Flash everything then wipe data.
What broke your device was probably Xposed.
Also, which audio mod are you talking about? Ainur, V4Android, V4ARISE, AK4490 patch, maybe some other?
Thanks for the help! i Managed to flash TWRP in EDL mode (black screen). Then I proceeded to flash nougat B9. I was up all night reading about it and searching tutorials how to flash stock from TWRP. I installed Bootstack and System, supersu 2.79 and xposed. First boot did not work but that was actually in the guide so I had to flash system and root again. My data partition is ext4 and everything works good now. I hope it wont make any problems.
The audio mod was "divine 10" or something. I will try the ones you have mentioned.
Thanks for all the help

Xposed usually needs a 2 or 3 minute first boot for some reason, just sayin
I really try to do stuff on my own without having to make other people repeat themselves a million times but this process is just so complicated and confusing that it's giving me a headache.
My goal: Be able to boot up LineageOS 16.
Code:
httpsforum.xda-developers.comnote-4snapdragon-devrom-lineageos-16-0-t3900807
It says it requires MM firmware and TWRP 3.2 or higher.
I have the retail 900V Note 4.
So far I have managed to downgrade to 5.1.1 and unlock the bootloader. (It says MODE: Developer)
From there I was able to install TWRP 3.0.2.
But now what?
Right now I have a phone that won't boot because there is no OS on it.
1. I can't get Odin to flash any other TWRP besides the 3.0.2 version. Odin just freezes halfway through and never completes. I'm assuming this might be because I'm not on an unlocked MM build yet. Currently still on LP.
2. I'm unsure how to get root back once I upgrade to a MM build. (I only have access to WiFi atm and this guide says it will disable it.)
Code:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm no expert so some of the things I'll suggest may not work.
As a first thought have you tried installing Lineage from TWRP 3.0.2
I'd suggest
1. downloading the OEM MM ROM from Sammobile and install that first so at least you have an OS to start with.
2. after setting it up install the official TWRP App update to the latest version of TWRP
3. ensure SuperSU is on the internal drive although I've not had problems installing it from a MicroSD and install it from TWRP Recovery. You should now have a rooted phone on the latest version of TWRP
4. put the Lineage ROM on the internal drive although again I've not had problems installing from a MicroSD (although it does take longer) and after 'Wiping' the system (it should tell you what steps are required from the Lineage guidance) install it.
5. After setup you will probably have to install SuperSU again or Magisk assuming there's no trace of SuperSU left on the system.
Hopefully someone will jump in and comment if I've missed something obvious or got it all wrong. Although I've rooted all 3 of my SM-N910Fs and SM-N910C at least once and installed various ROMs I don't consider myself particularly knowledgable. So far I've not bricked any of my phones or Tablets.
I really appreciate the reply.
Currently I am trying to flash 5.1.1 stock onto the phone and Odin just freezes about 25% into system.img.ext4
I have tried a dozen times.
I believe what makes my phone so difficult to flash is the stock bootloader is locked.
Hi,
I have had my A1 since it first came out and thinking of rooting and flashing Pixel OS on it now. I am currently in latest Android 9 and in Malaysia.
I read up some of the other threads about rooting and flashing rom but there seem to be alot of conflicting instructions and alot of ways to root which is making it very confusing for me now.
Any kind soul can point me the most reliable way to root and flashing Pixel rom?
Thanks in advance
The way I did it is unlocking bootloader and then booting twrp via fastboot. From there you can easily install magisk, custom ROMs, kernels, and other modifications.
Remember that if you want to be able to boot to recovery without using a PC you'll need to flash a twrp installer
Hello everyone.
I made some test in installing some custom roms in some old devices always avoiding to install TWRP permanently on the drive (i used it in boot mode and then adb listen in TWRP and adb command from PC).
I've done this in order to preserve the stock recovery mode.
I decided to install pixel experience as my default rom in my redmi note 7 and i noticed that this rom will use OTA updates so i'm asking you if i should install TWRP (or other recovery images) permenently in order to make it work properly.
Another question that i have revolves around Magisk, is this tool needed in order to make pixel experience work fine?
BTW i don't understand why TWRP does not officially support RN7 lol (eventually i'll use a porting or another recovery )
Thank you everyone
First, sorry for not answering your main question but I'm more intrigued as to how you can flash a custom rom without using a custom recovery like TWRP. Also, is it possible to permanently install TWRP? How you do this?
Second, Magisk is not needed for the rom but allows some other customizations, fixes and root access.
you need some kind of custom recovery that supports your phone, its what allows you to install roms. There are a few out there such as TWRP, organge fox, etc. Chose whatever you like that has good support for your device.
