Can i install generic Kali Nethunter image on moto g7? - Moto G7 Questions & Answers

Hi, i would like to install the generic kali nethunter image. i think it is a GSI but i am not sure.
Can i just do a TWRP format data and then install the image? or is it not a GSI and will it brick my phone?

bump

Did you try? Did it work? I have the same phone, now that it is no longer my primary I was going to try the same thing. It won't be that devastating if I do brick it but if it flat out is guaranteed to do so then there is no reason to destroy the phone.

Help with Kali Nethunter

Hi guys, I'm quite a big kali Linux fan and have been learning about it for a while and today I tried nethunter but am having issues. I flashed the zip and the kernel like advised but when booting up I'm on the kali Linux boot animation forever and it won't boot so I reverted to a twrp backup and everything is fine. I'm not sure what the issue is really but my current setup is carbon rom with franco kernel and magisk. I notice that nethunter installs supersu so not sure if that caused the issue or what. I'd like to have full functionality of nethunter but he able to use carbon rom and Franco kernel. I'm happy to switch to supersu if need be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Another soft bricked Moto g4 plus XT1642

Hi all,
So I am new to the game, I had an old(ish) phone and attempted to root the device. As some of you might have read on here before, I failed, I thought I had followed all the correct steps. I used the following steps as a guide: (from the unlockr). After attempting to install supersu I was left with a black screen. I can however access my recovery mode in bootloader, the thing is that bootloader is the only thing I can access. I cannot access my moto g4 plus via USB on windows, but for some reason I can access both internal and external memory on a mac. I can see the supersu version, my TWRP etc. I was wondering if someone could help me out, I know this has probably been posted before but I have not been able to find a possible solution as of yet. Thanks in advance
Is your device running stock Nougat (7.0) firmware? If so, then attempting to root on the stock Nougat Motorola kernel may result in a black screen and failure to boot, which appears to be what you've experienced. What those guides generally fail to mention (as they're quite old) is that rooting on the G4/Plus running Nougat requires flashing a custom kernel before you root. Failure to do so appears to trip the anti-rooting measures built into the stock kernel. A more recent guide that I've used for a stable root on a G4 Plus is this https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-root-moto-g4-plus-supersu-android-t3587918 Bear in mind you do not need root to flash custom ROMs whatsoever, just TWRP.
If you can still access TWRP, you may have a way out. One thing to try is to flash a custom kernel onto your device - ElementalX is a good choice. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/kernel-elementalx-g4-0-01-t3424836 for ElementalX v2.0.1 for stock . Download the kernel to your computer, ensure your device is connected to your computer and booted to TWRP, and copy the custom kernel to your device. Try to flash the kernel and then see if your device boots.
If your device still fails to boot, you could try flashing the stock kernel from your backup (you did make a backup before rooting?) or if you're running a more recent OS build, I've uploaded the Feb 2018 and April 2018 security patch stock kernels here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-GUyOfb8OgzcUl1NUtHYWNIR2M To flash this in general:
a)Download the kernel boot.img to your device.
b)In TWRP, tap Install.
c)Tap Install image at the bottom of the screen.
d)Navigate to where you downloaded the boot.img and select the image file.
e)Target the image to boot (not recovery).
f)Flash, and wipe cache.
g)Reboot and see if that works.
If those don't work, restore your backup if you made one or you may have to re-flash your stock firmware - you do not have to re-lock your bootloader or wipe your device with this re-flash of the stock firmware.

How to flash a Treble img on redmi 4 prime

I am used to normal flashing. But there is no good official rom for markw. Mokee lags and unstable,I didn't like dotOS ui, havoc was great but unstable with many problems like bettary draining, heating even in sleeping etc. I want to install RR or aosp extended treble img.
Did anyone in this forum flash treble img?? Can anyone help me?? I didn't find anyone who flashed a treble img on an unofficially treble supported device like markw.
Thanks in advance.
Use treble recovery to flash treble roms. GSI's can be flashed with it, you'll additionally need vendor to flash after flashing GSI.

Will this process work?
1) Flash a treble enabled rom(havoc).
2) Factory data reset with twrp.
3)Install treble gsi.
Thanks for reply.

I think the following is better:
1. Flash gsi (with all fundamental wipes, ofc.)
2. Flash vendor
3. Flash post gsi's if required (ported sgsi's require this normally)
4. Flash gapps and magisk (both optional)
5. Boot system

Flashed Recovery and OS from OP5T on OP5

Hi,
i've made a big mistake, i have flashed TWRP and LineageOS/Stock-Roms from Oneplus 5T on my Oneplus 5. There was only a few things that don't work. Now when i boot into Recovery i can't install LineageOS for the OnePlus 5 because of Error 7. Is there a special TWRP for Oneplus 5T and Oneplus 5 or is it the same for both devices? At the moment there is no OS installed. I have flashed this Recovery https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...overy-twrp-3-2-1-0-oreo-oxygenos-5-0-t3725723 and tried to flash LineageOS for OnePlus 5 but it failed with

Yes, there are 2 ways.
1. Flash OOS from bootloader, or via adb sideload. Else use MSM Tool to flash OOS. Then lock bootloader, and unlock again to flash the TWRP. After that all back to normal.
2. Lock the bootloader and unlock, then flash CodeworkX Force Encrypt TWRP from the same link. Format data and try.
#1 will make it all clean with no need of vendor again.
#2 will have the need to flash vendor image again.
is it stable? did u have navigation gestures hahaha just wondering
what didnt work?
Most works. Microphone didn't work and sometimes bluetooth.

Is TWRP Necessary in order to change rom?

Hello everyone.
I made some test in installing some custom roms in some old devices always avoiding to install TWRP permanently on the drive (i used it in boot mode and then adb listen in TWRP and adb command from PC).
I've done this in order to preserve the stock recovery mode.
I decided to install pixel experience as my default rom in my redmi note 7 and i noticed that this rom will use OTA updates so i'm asking you if i should install TWRP (or other recovery images) permenently in order to make it work properly.
Another question that i have revolves around Magisk, is this tool needed in order to make pixel experience work fine?
BTW i don't understand why TWRP does not officially support RN7 lol (eventually i'll use a porting or another recovery )
Thank you everyone
First, sorry for not answering your main question but I'm more intrigued as to how you can flash a custom rom without using a custom recovery like TWRP. Also, is it possible to permanently install TWRP? How you do this?
Second, Magisk is not needed for the rom but allows some other customizations, fixes and root access.
you need some kind of custom recovery that supports your phone, its what allows you to install roms. There are a few out there such as TWRP, organge fox, etc. Chose whatever you like that has good support for your device.
