s8+ motherboard swap - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

i have 2 s8+ phones, one is rooted and the other one isnt. can i take the motherboard out of the non rooted one (whose screen is cracked) and swap it into the rooted phone without running into problems?? The wife wants samsung apps like HEALTH to work and it wont on rooted phone

If they're the same variant, cpu/hardware/carrier it should work.
Cam modules and port PCBs may not be compatible with other carrier variants.
Replacing the mobo is a major operation and damage can result. Out of circuit individual assemblies especially the mobo are susceptible to ESD damage. Full ESD protocols should be observed. Any static electricity can damage or destroy it.

They're identical. Of course I would follow ALL protocols. Thanx for your reply

Wear cotton and raise humidity to at least 50%.
A earth grounded ESD mat and wrist strap are best. A bare wood surface works in a pinch.

detroitdogg, hi i have performed this task on my devices. Transplantation of sm-g950f to sm-g950f , transplantation of s8sm-930f to sm-g950f housing , transplantation sm-g955f to sm-g950f, note7 mainboard Into sm-g950f .
(Any mod's do at own risk)
All of these mod's were done in the kitchen On the stovetop of a bedsit I was living in,
no tethering Or humidity Modification or monitoring , gloves or any of the usual "Environmental Qualifiers" posted or told essential.
I sneezed in The inside Of one of the operations, (im in Australia) drops Of sweat in another .
The ****ed bit is glass-screen/digitizer removes , once i started using the s8+ housing i swapped in the strongest battery from the pile of corpses, fingerprint, camera , glass-screen to of course.

It's great until you fry a mobo, or maybe a dozen expensive flat packs. I did production assembly for decades.
You're the kind of person who claims Corsair sent you a bad stick of ram... that was good until it was unboxed.
Get a ESD meter and measure what you claim isn't there then get back to me.

s4 (i337) screen replacement

don't look at my non-existent post count, i frequent here and other tech sites multiple times a day, i just don't engage in discussions, anyways, i'm gonna be needing a new screen for my s4 which cost around 200 bucks, but an oppurtunity has presented itself where i can can the screen and housing replacement (including battery cover, used however) for a lower price, but the descriptions say that it is intended for the L720 (sprint) i545 (verizon) and the us cellular model.
I am wondering of this will still work on my i337 or is it not compatible?? look at the picture here; (the forum wont allow me to post a link)
looking at it, it seems as if it has the sim port, so what do you fine lads and ladies think? will it work??
P.S. this phone is not insured and repair costs have to be paid for by me,that is why i am seeking this course of action, thanks for allsuggestions and replies
Have a Good day
Not compatible ... The frame that holds the LCD is different .. So your motherboard is not going to fit in ...
Unless your only getting the bare LCD/digitizer and you plan to reuse the frame of your i337 , also a good screen cannot be removed from the frame without breaking it...

The digitizer alone can be replaced by itself. Ive done 3 so far. Same with the s3, infuse, note, note 2 etc etc.. its very time consuming but isnt that hard. We charge 130 at my shop.
BEAST......... that is all

[Q] dead screen area after water damage

Hello, looking for advice on what to do -
my nexus 4 dropped into water and now the lower ~1.5 cm of the screen doesn't respond (including the navigation keys).
other than that all is fine - connectivity, charging, internet, calls, etc.
Will opening it help ?
replace the screen ?
replace mother board?
many thanks
gilad
Get it to service Centre for quality replacement. There is a way to open up and replace LCD digitizer for rectifying the display. However the damage as to the level of Penetration inside the phone is not known. If your phone is dropped into the water, put in a dry place and let it dry. Don't even switch on. Control the urge to check if it's working. Don't switch on up to 48hrs. Don't shake as it may damage more.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
thank you belictony.
if I wanted to fix it myself - would it be easier (and safer, though more expensive) to replace glass+digitizer+lcd instead of only digitizer ?
There are LCD assembly for sale. Its not safer and easier to replace it yourself unless you have knowledge about it. Even if you know about it, there is no assurance as to whether the device will work or not. Get it to service center or buy a new phone. The service center personnel will probably charge around 200-300 depending upon the condition. You can rather buy a nexus 5 or some other phone.

Unpacking your new Xperia device, Clean it

Hey all
I just unoacked my 2nd Z3+, but I thought Ide share this with the community....
The reason Im onto my 2nd device is because on my 1st Z3+ the camera images had a cloudy ghosting to them and some chromatic abboration.. but what ive realised now is... all Xperia devices are shipped. with the white frosted protective sticky films covering both the back and front of the Xperia that you peel off..
However when I did peel them off I noticed they leave behind a tacky oily residue on the the REAR glass back which is on your fingers when you first use your Z, probably why the back panel gets all "finger marked up" out of the box , but I now wonder if this is also on the camera hence why I got cloudy images.. I dont mean the Display screen itself as the xperia comes with a screen protector already on it, so thats ok..
I just gently cleaned my camera glass with a lint free cloth and a touch of water (no soap) or lense cleaner and it seems to be taking great shots, so if your finding this yourself, give that a try... I will say ... its not the best idea to clean any camera glass too much, as this can cause its own problems.. too much rubbing can build up static which attracts lint and dust particles, also smearing from the cloth.. use a lint free cloth, Personally, Ive found a quick clean every now and again is a good practise
Just thought Ide share this
Nice suggestion. I've had a Z1 compact before, and I'm looking forward in buying Z3+ to replace it. Do you recommend this device? Does it overheat?

Yes, It overheats while gaming, browsing & using camera at top back of the phone. The heat is a bit higher than normal. Except that it is wonderful phone. If you concern about heat, ignore this phone else go for it.
Average battery
heats tooo much...till 46deg celsius... at that temp its lag a bit
Except all this its good mobile....
Camera is awesome
I rooted mine, debloated and installed project skynet. No lag at all and sits comfortably 35-45 which by modern standards is acceptable. This is a thin phone too remember.
My Z3+ is E6553 Rev. 5, which came with a fast charger in the box, and Ive found the heat is not as bad for me as alot of people have been reporting, I only shoot in 1080p video as well... and yes while is does get hot, its not untouchable... so maybe my Revision is an updated one.
I do really like this phone, its design and UI. I had considered a Z3, but SONY no longer support the Z3. I prefer the Z3+ for its wider camera angle, and extra modes, I know the Z3+ still uses the SONY RS sensor, but i read they had updated the imaging algorythms and changed a few things. Also the bottom mounted USB port.. (the usb covered flap on the Z3 is infuriating). Also I find the overall volume is louder for both ringer and music as well as the speakers being moved to the edges so they dont collect as much gunk and pocket lint.
Yeah.. its a great phone. Over here in UK you can buy for about £250 - £300 sim free, so its a great buy

Its on the side of the box.. its got the Model, and a few bar codes.. IMEI, Model Code etc or, inside the box, there should be a set of bar coded stickers (you know the ones you stick on the device if you need to return it for repairs)... should be on there if not on the boxc.
Good wishes bro.... @NightOrchid bro can u show us a pic of how to chk that rev5

Hi there, today i got my brand new z3+ single SIM Rev. 5. Nice package... Glas Screen Protector, USB OTG Cable EC310, Smart Cover SCR30, Charger EP880 with 1500mA, Sony MH750 Headset, Micro USB Cable EC803 and a 30 Euro Gift Card for "HelloFresh" dont know what that is xD. The Phone itself is a little bit sticky, but after a clean with a damp microfibre cloth its perfect. I dont know why here on XDA some people ask for a Kernel with D2tW, its in the Stock Rom integrated already ("Settings->Display" on the Bottom of this menu).

How to totally kill my S7 edge?

Hi team. My S7 edge has been rooted plenty of times, tons of custom roms, etc etc. I have owned the phone for 23 months now. The battery is dying, home button peeled, usb dropping connection, and I just found warranty card stating that is still one month under warranty. But due to rooting havoc I inflicted to my phone, knox is deeply tripped. I am trying to find a way to break my phone so badly that it is not even possible to go to download mode so that the service centre cannot check knox status.
Any ideas? Removing cable while flashing bootloader? Undercharging the battery to kill it? Did anyone try?
extract sboot.bin from firmware and flash it with odin very quickly, when it is in middle or between flashing remove the cable immediately and hopefully your phone will die repeat this again and again also try with cm.bin too. You have to hard brick your phone don't try to damage battery or break anything physically it will void your warranty straight away.
PS: I think knox will show tripped if they did't replaced the motherboard and used another method to flash it and you have to blame them that they did it not you.:victory::victory:
It seems to be difficult to hard brick the phone. I tried many times - in Odin, I selected BL button, selected the BL archive from stock firmware, then during flashing I was disconnecting the phone. I tried it several times at several stages of flashing (once i hit the sboot.bin) but the download mode still works and displays warranty void 1. I can't kill off that download mode. I am starting to worry that it is hardcoded into some ROM module that just cannot be written and so it is running from hardware. This factory flashing through odin is doing everything with NAND memory that is read-writable but it looks that the download mode "partition" is not writable at all. Despite I break bootloader or whatever else, i just cannot destroy download mode, hence it is impossible to hard brick the phone. I was thinking of overclocking the CPU to destroy it but i think it would be too obvious.
If you are based in the EU, then Samsung needs to repair under warranty regardless whether you have rooted your phone or not.

Anyway I flashed stock rom and brought it to the carrier's store for repair. Let's see.

Well, it is the law...... a vendor can't just invalidate your statutory warranty, because they don't like what you did........

If they refuse (which they probably will) take them to court. Just to be clear, you need to take whoever supplied the phone to court, as you'll have warranty with them.

Use a USB killer. Simple.
how about give it to somebody who really could use a phone?
Put 12v ping from old pc psu on usb 5v and +data (red and green wire in cable) rail ,it will kill it,work with my old LG G4 whenn LG wont replace via rma screen with red retentions, fry it on 12v for few miliseconds do not for longer time or will be start smoking
Hello all, just an update,
they totally repaired my phone, no questions asked. Replaced the battery, entire front panel with screen, home button, and they even replaced the chassis (metal frame) so it looks like new. A pity that the back cover remained old, scratched.

At most, all he will accomplish with an USB Killer stick is to fry the contacts on the USB port if it's not securely plugged in. The S7 is immune to the USB killer stick.

I confirm it's waterproof as before. Since repair, I had it with me several times in wellness tub, sauna, jacuzzi (warm water - more risk to "loosen" the adhesive), also took some slo-mo videos during water sliding and there is no sign of water / drops / mist in the phone. I am taking it to the sea in 3 weeks (for the 3rd summer in a row). The phone is holding together like new. It also suffered a few drops - no damage.
Just a note - USB charging is not working several hours after bath. It must dry completely. So bring a wireless charger if you plan to bathe with your s7 edge.
The best phone in my life. It's so durable. Although.. note 8 would be a nice upgrade
I have been using my phone for 2 years last month I thought will replace battery, in local Samsung shop battery replacement cost £60 together with the battery but I thought I will try it myself. Bought battery for £20
Few tools to open the phone, hair dryer. Tube of silicone, double sided tape.
Local shops are filled up with spare parts for s7 edge back plate motherboards etc and they're cheap in case if I damaged anything.
It took me around 2 hours to replace the battery and haven't damaged anything, was thinking will test if my phone is still waterproof. Well Samsung says originally I can put my phone underwater 0.5m deep for 30 min and it should still work.
I did extended water resistance test. Used fishing rod and there's lake just behind my house. Attached my phone and dropped it I think around 4m deep and went back home and came back in the evening around 8 hours later thinking either fish ate my phone or surely it died, pulled it back and there were few messages on the screen, someone texted me while my phone was on the bottom of the lake.
I guess I have waterproofed my phone better than Samsung

The back glass is extremely easy to repair though, I'd know since i've replaced it myself on my S7E about 5 times now. Usually a new OEM glass battery cover replacement only costs about 20 bucks.

Hello, did they change your motherboard and knox is 0 now or you received it with same motherboard with knox 1 ?
Microwave? Cook some chips..

Pixel 4 - Need Replacement Motherboard

Hi all, was replacing my cracked screen and managed to graze some of the resistors on the motherboard and its possible one was unseated.
New screen and old screen both turn on but the touch does not register. I think I need a new motherboard.
Does anyone know where to get motherboard parts? Does anyone have one for sale as i would love to put this thing back together!
A more likely culprit is that the digitizer wasn't plugged back in properly . I would suggest that you take the phone apart again and make sure all of the connections are seated properly.
I've had a phone with motherboard issues and they generally completely stop working (black screen, no boot, etc). That's why I really don't think the touch screen issue is a result of a loose component on the mother board. That being said, if you really feel like it is a loose connection on the mother board, you can try baking the board in an oven to soften the solder joints which allows them to re-adhere when they cool down. Yes, it can actually work. Take the phone apart and stick just the motherboard (don't put the case, screen, battery, etc in the oven) in an oven at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes. I've always rested the motherboard on top of two wooden spoons that were sitting on a cookie sheet. This keeps the motherboard off the hot metal surface and allows the hot air to get to all parts of the mother board. Remove the motherboard and let it cool down before installing the board.
Thanks Sic for the reply. You made me not give up hope. I will try again and bake some mobo.
But which wire is the actual digitizer. Is it the one on the far right?
The rest seem to attach to bumpers or usbc charger. Thanks again for reply.
Attached 2 photos. 1 is my mobo with red circles around what i think was damaged. I think this is the only connection to the screen digitizer in the phone.
The second is from IFIXIT mobo. it looks a bit different, possibly different revision but showing the same angle. Digitizer connection on top.
Could one of those circles connections cause the digitizer to not pick up finger contact but the screen works perfectly?
Looking at the two pictures, I could be easily convinced that there isn't suppose to my any components where you have your red circles. If you look at the IFIXIT picture, there are three components, then a break, then 6 more components and another break. You red circles seem to correspond with the breaks in the IFIXIT image, although it is clear that the motherboard isn't identical in the two images. Just my two cents.

Update. Phone no longer boots after reinstalling everything.
I pre-heated to 200c ~ 400f and let it sit for 10 minutes and cool before reinstalling all the components. Was a final attempt I know.

That's too bad. I'm not all that surprised it didn't help, but I am surprised it actually made the problem worse.
Perhaps one of the components was loose and baking it made the connection fail completely. As I noted before, motherboard issues generally result in a no boot situation.
Baking it was a last ditch effort to try to get it to work, but don't feel like you have to quit now. You can try baking it again - perhaps for slightly longer this time. You have nothing to loose and perhaps it will cause a bad connection to re-solidify. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Hello I am sorry that your phone is not working. I was wondering if you do find a new board if you wanted to sell me your old mother board. I want to try a project of replacing the ram chip with a 16gb chip but to do so I need a old board.
Hello, I have the same problem, my pixel 4 XL got wet (I know, it was stupid) it reaches a depth of 2 meters, I opened it to myself if I could save it and it was completely rusty. and several transistors and chips came out. So I decided to look for a motherboard to repair it. anyone know where i can get the replacement? :crying: :crying: :crying:
