No... But I'm still trying to root my Airtel Xstream Box because I want to run my Airtel Xstream Box without the coaxial cable (dish cable) plugged in. But it's not possible without rooting the Android STB. You can try unplug the coaxial cable and use your Airtel Xstream Box with internet connection for 2-3 days and tell me if your device run without the coaxial cable plugged in.

Mr. kardes4 you didn't get the Mr. neo1691's point.
He want to access the Internet of his PC/laptop into his Galaxy without using Wifi
And this mobile ap let's to share the Internet of our Galaxy's "Internet" over PC/Laptop. and he want Vice-Versa.
Mr. neo1691 want the app that make the USB of Galaxy turn into the LAN kind of wire. And if we plug in the USB into our Galaxy, the PC/Laptop's internet starts working on the PHONE.
Right Mr. neo1691.

It can be done with changing a wifi card to Access Point mode, but you don't have any, right?
Through USB... hmm, you will need an USB Host option, but our CPU doesn't support that.
BT it can work, but I don't see any post to proove that. I know it can be done at SE P990. If you're an programmer, write app for that

Hey guys... i just stumbled upon some article in the newspaper that u can use ur laptop as a wifi router to share internet connection with your mobile devices..!!!!!
is it possible guys..!!!!
i am keepin my fingers crossed
Yes you can do that but not via USB.
what you need:
1. a laptop or pc with wifi adapter.
2. win 7. (this is not for vista and XP)
3. a tool like "Connectify" that is free.
this is very simple, just follow the instructions from "Connectify".
Good luck

Well, as far as I know there is no software to do it for you.
But still you have an option, you must set up an "ad hoc" network connection.
this will share Internet over your wifi or wireless LAN adapter.
Its not hard to do that just Google the "ad hoc" for instruction.

Connectify is working with win 7!
probably your problem is from the wifi setting of the cell phone.
For the other software (I'm not sure) but you can try virtual router.
and ... Internet from USB? I don't think it's possible yet because we need an enabled USB Host mode phone.
I think some people are working on that but it's still way to go.
Accessing PC internet on Samsung Galaxy 3 I5801 via USB
BTW this WiFi thing should be discussed in some other post. Isn't it? This post is all concerned about using PC internet on phone via USB.
I'm also looking for it. Please friends, someone do something to make it work.
Ad-hoc
okay connectify is for windows 7..!!!!
i have vista..!!!
the following article tells us how to set up an ad-hoc on laptop to share internet on laptop temporarily..!!!

[Q] optimus 7 as a wireless (wifi) adapter?

How can i use my wifi enabled mobile phone as wireless adapter for pc,for accessing internet on a desktop pc via usb(by not using mobile's 3g)?
I don't mean the usb tethering prosedure. If anybody knows. I have an old desktop pc without wireless adapter. I know that i could use a cheap wifi usb stick. I just want to know if this is possible.
While I know you can share the 3g connection with your phone, and you use to be able to use the computers wifi connection on the phone.... I don't think you could share the wifi connection with your computer. You can however, picked up a used usb one for a few dollars and a new one from newegg.com for $15.
While there may be a way to do it, .... you're asking a $300 phone to do the job of a simple adapter.

The currently available tethering on WP7 only shares your cellular data connection over WiFi.
There are indications that it might also be possible to share you're cellular data connection over e.g. USB, but I don't think that's been possible (even on unlocked devices) thus far.

a simple adapter (usb modem with a sim card) also does the job that usb tethering offers on optimus 7.
Thank you all for your answers. But i already know what are the currently available tethering (usb and with recently released firmware update internet sharing -cellular data- via wifi on wp7). I just asked if is possible to share phone's Wi-Fi connection to a pc (missing wifi adapter) via USB on wp7. That's all. If anybody knows please reply.

Lost access to LAN resources

I'm running Android 5.0.1 (Goldeneye ROM), and have found that my access to some LAN resources has become limited. For example, I can no longer connect to any Windows/SMB shares which I was accessing fine a few days ago (using ES File Explorer). I also use the Onkyo Remote app to control my AV receiver, but now it cannot find the receiver on the network. I am also unable to connect to my Squeezebox server using the client app.
Using terminal emulator I can ping my router (192.168.1.1), but if I try to ping WIndows PCs or other devices on the LAN it just hangs. If I try to ping my AV receiver I get "destination host unreachable".
I have full internet access via wifi, but no access to any LAN resources it seems. A reboot hasn't helped. Any ideas for how I can diagnose this further?
Well I wouldn't say your phone was at fault, I had something similar and only re flashing the firmware on the router solved it. Router was old and cheap though.
The one thing I didn't try was rebooting the router...and now I have and....that solved it!
Thanks
So maybe "solved" wasn't the right choice of words....having successfully connected to the receiver earlier today I tried again this evening and got exactly the same problem - no access to any of my LAN resources. Having to reboot my router every time I use the Onkyo remote app is soon going to get pretty tiresome.
Any idea what might be causing this problem, and how I might prevent it happening?

No idea then. You can try a different firmware on your phone / different modem, maybe that can make a difference. But you have just a bad router. No decent router would cause this behavior.

Can An Old Android Phone Be Reused As a Wifi Repeater?

Hello,
The modem/router in my house is mounted on a wall behind the TV unit, which is two rooms away from where I generally need internet connection. Therefore, while I pay for 25 mbps download speed, I only get about 12 mbps. I was searching for a DIY router that could streamline my internet connection until my old Samsung Galaxy Gio caught my eye while I was tidying my shelf a day ago. It got me thinking if I can repurpose it to fix my problem with the wireless internet connection, and so I'm here, typing bunch of questions for you to answer.
I've made some research on this subject and I've seen the similar threads regarding to the same purpose, yet I haven't find the answers I'm looking for, so I do need to ask my questions here.
1. I understand that nearly all Android phones cannot receive and transmit simultaneously, thus they cannot repeat the WiFi signals to extend the router's range. However, could a phone plugged in to the router, receiving the signal via an ethernet cable, transmit the signal wirelessly to other connected devices?
2. What device is required in order to turn an android phone into a WiFi repeater?
Note: Bluetooth Tethering isn't preferred due to its reputation of decreasing the connection speed.
I really need to find a solution and waiting for your answers, thank you.
The keyword is tethering. There are several apps in the Play Store which help you with it, for example fqrouter2 (might have been renamed to NetShare, if I remember correctly). Otherwise, just search for "Android device wifi repeater".

It's Enhanced236, stock 2.3.6 with a bit difference. I'm sure it supports tethering.
I had rather good luck on a Galaxy S3 with fqrouter and a couple of other programs... fqrouter is a pita to setup and requires you to exit the app completely sometimes to get changes to apply...
That being said, this caused a HUGE amount of heat in the phone as it was working its little butt off... Of course this is a rooted device too
yeah i bet you can , try this app i dont knw if it supports old android versions but it work on expends the wifi coverage not just tethering no expend even if u recieve that connexion with a wifi try it and feedback here please

EDIT: Just realized this thread is four years old.
https://www.amazon.com/Ethernet-Adapter-Compatible-Chromecast-Internet/dp/B078MNW25Q/
This should be exactly what you want. This plugs into the phone's micro usb port and the adapter has an ethernet port on it as a power port to connect to a wall charger to pass charging through to the phone and keep the battery charged at the same time.
Then you should be able to just start the built in hotspot from the settings menu and connect and devices and it should go through the ethernet connection.
Now keep in mind this is a VERY old phone with limited specs and an old version of android so even though in theory this should work its still possible it might not work as well as expected but I think its worth a try.
Regardless of whether you're trying this with an android device or even a regular range extender like a netgear or something from your ISP, its very important that you always connect ethernet. From personal experience if you try to bridge an access point and extender only using wifi with no hardwired ethernet it will usually only increase the signal strength but not the internet speed so always plug in a cable to the extender device.

If you're unable to run fastboot, check for any setting that flips usb host/slave mode.

Hi Goapy
The STB runs Android 8 the reason that I am not able to fastboot because after the end of subscription the wifi and usb is locked the wifi is supposed to connect to wifi for the network provider only and will not connect to other wifi because other wifi will not appear in the list also the usb socket will not detect files or access to the pc if connected i tried to find the uart i am confused about this device because some people in our country are able to unlock it but unfortunately they don’t publish the way to do that

Actually you can remove whatever app you like and install any app, you can even remove system apps installed by ooredoo, its not like unlocking or rooting but you may change some stuff as you like.
You can either connect ethernet port directly to your computer and use adb shell over tcpip to remove the apps, or connect it to your regular router via ethernet and use adb shell as well.
I didn't have the time to check everything else of what apps you can remove to make it bare bone, I was interested to debloat my device.
Let me know if you need any help or a detailed walk-through.

I have tried all the ways to connect this STB to ethernet or wifi even through the usb but this STB has security which it will never connect to anything except if you have ooredoo network with the subscription that’s the point which I am stuck in it also tried the developer mode but still no way to connect it so I can access the adb we must first search for a trick to disable this security that makes the device doesn’t connect to any of usb or wifi or ethernet
