Are you unable to run fastboot at all? Is this device still running android 7?
If you're unable to run fastboot, check for any setting that flips usb host/slave mode.
I looked at the other side of the board using the fcc photos;

I don't see any obvious uart connection points. If I couldn't run fastboot, the next thing I'd do is locate uart connection points.

Hi Goapy
The STB runs Android 8 the reason that I am not able to fastboot because after the end of subscription the wifi and usb is locked the wifi is supposed to connect to wifi for the network provider only and will not connect to other wifi because other wifi will not appear in the list also the usb socket will not detect files or access to the pc if connected i tried to find the uart i am confused about this device because some people in our country are able to unlock it but unfortunately they don’t publish the way to do that

Did you find a way to unlock it? I tried multiple methods with no luck as well, just to let you know the people here in Qatar who says they can unlock it they simply don't! They just simply change the launcher and install some apps and nothing else, I even paid some money to unlock it but they simply can't.

Actually you can remove whatever app you like and install any app, you can even remove system apps installed by ooredoo, its not like unlocking or rooting but you may change some stuff as you like.
You can either connect ethernet port directly to your computer and use adb shell over tcpip to remove the apps, or connect it to your regular router via ethernet and use adb shell as well.
I didn't have the time to check everything else of what apps you can remove to make it bare bone, I was interested to debloat my device.
Let me know if you need any help or a detailed walk-through.

Hi, sorry for taking me long time to reply. I will leave a link to a website explaining how to do it, and in case you find any issue please let me know. Just scroll down to "Uninstall system apps on Android using adb". In developers option as extra step enable " adb over wireless" too just in case. You can connect to your tv box using wifi or ethernet cable.

I have tried all the ways to connect this STB to ethernet or wifi even through the usb but this STB has security which it will never connect to anything except if you have ooredoo network with the subscription that’s the point which I am stuck in it also tried the developer mode but still no way to connect it so I can access the adb we must first search for a trick to disable this security that makes the device doesn’t connect to any of usb or wifi or ethernet

Im on a personal mission to get bluetooth tethering with my blackberry to this tablet. (i wont be changing phones, its not an option, so please dont suggest it)
ive done just about all of the searching that can be done for this. and on my journey i have run into many deadends, but i have made small progress forward. im hopinh someone who knows bluetooth/programming can give some advice or assistance.
Heres what i have so far, two programs have given me hope, pdanet tablet and Q5 BT DUN
Pdanet tablet: ( i know its not set up to work this way, but im just stating what i have seen or tried so far) When i run pdanet on my blackberry, i am able to connect to pdanet tablet, my phones shows its connected, the tablet shows its connected, but there is no data transfer.
QT BT DUN: Possibly even a better chance of getting working. you can findit here http://android.gval.biz/
This app allows you to edit your own chat script. you can search for your phone, and BT channels available. it finds my phone and gives me its information it sees

when i finish setting it up,i go to connect and after about 40 secs i receive an error: "FAIL! PPP fail to connect"
i would love for any help i can get.
my final thing i have to say at the moment is, ive used my blackberry to tether to my iosdevice (which also at first glance seemed to be unable to tether via bluetooth) but a developer (who is unwilling to be any help, ive tried asking) has made an app that allows ANY phone to tether by bluetooth.
to me that gives me hope, but that means it can go the same route with android right? just needs a little programming love?
i am willing to donate to whomever can help me get this working, i dont have much, but i can give what im able to. Thank you.
Edit: im changing this to bluetooth and or usb tethering.
Have you tried an app called nook color Bluetooth or something like that. Designed for that device but may work for you.
I think your problem may lie somewhere in one of your devices allowing multiple concurrent connections at the same time or maybe just not being setup to allow it. I know Android uses two different protocols for sending and receiving data, opp and ftp. It may not be enabling both protocols. I have the app blutooth file transfer before to transfer in both directions at the same time but that was sending files between two Android devices both running that app. Good luck getting it worked out.

While searching on Google today, I found out that pdanet Tablet has been updated to BETA 2. In it's description it says with it you can tether blackberrys to your tablet to make it work. However It says that the app is not compatible with my tablet (a500) and it wouldn't let me download. I know this sounds strange but you cannot find it by searching in the market, but what you can do is do a google search for "pdanet tablet beta2" and the first result is a link to it on the market. The android market also says that beta1 is obselete and that anyone using it should delete it.
I'm trying really hard to get my bold tethered to my tablet as well.

The link is gone now. You can still search it on google, but when you click the link it takes you to the market and the market says the app isn't there anymore.
I don't know why Acer doesn't support it.
I am trying to tether with my iPhone 4.
I am able to do it by installing Virtuous Galaxy, tethering appears as a profile and you can simply connect.
No such luck in the Acer based roms.

Maybe it's because the A500 doesn't support it?
AFAIK, App developers have to mark their apps as compatible with OS versions... If they haven't marked it as such with the version your tablet is running, it will show as incompatible, even though it probably will work.
Try to download it on an android phone, if you can, then copy the APK over.

Hi, I have an Iconia A500 (stock HC 3.0.1) and a Motorola Milestone 2 (FroYo 2.2.2, rooted).
I installed PdaNet Tablet on the Milestone, extracted the APK and installed it on the A500. This worked just fine.
I start the server on the Milestone, have a bluetooth pairing between the A500 and the Milestone, and PdaNet Table on the A500 finds the Milestone (it tells me to execute "Step 2" and set up the VPN connection). On the Milestone, a message popped up whether I want to allow the A500 to connect to the Internet, which I allowed.
Unfortunately, I cannot get the VPN connection established. When I click "Connect" on the A500, it tries to connect for a while, then reports that the connection could not be established. I tried several times, but it simply does not work.
Anybody with more luck?

That might be why they pulled it right after releasing it.
Either way, Would you mind uploading so i can give it a try?
ive been able to manually install pdanet tab beta 2. This time when ever I select my phone (blackberry) it asks to pair and my phone shows its connected to a device (blue blinking light) and seems to stay connect unlike before. Only problem now, like Tim_h posted above when you move to step two (vpn: 127.0.0.1 setting like the previous version) it alerts you to please finish step one. Which as far as my phone is aware has been completed...
this may be why they pulled it from the market so prematurely. Hopefully they will release a beta 3 soon and have that problem fixed... I'm looking forward to it as this seems to be making some much needed progress.
Has anyone else found anything else worth looking into?

If you go to the market and look up pdanet tablet beta 1, it says in the "what's new" section that beta 2 will be released soon. I think all we can do now is wait for that problem to be solved and see if Beta 2 can be the answer we have all been looking for.

^ No. Completely different OS version, different kernel, different everything. Just do the wifi ad-hoc mod if your phone can't do infrastructure mode. It works fine and way better than crappy BT tethering.

So people have used a "wifi ad-hoc mod" to tether the A500 to a blackberry? Would you send a link to a thread with instructions? I couldn't find anything through searching.
When I would take my Desktop computer to a friends house, I would connect to his WiFi with my SGT7 through USB Tethering. I assumed I could do the same with my Nexus 7, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
There doesn't seem to be a native option for USB Tethering present in the settings, on Stock nor the few custom ROM's I've seen. The 3rd-party app I used to use on my SGT7, wired-tether 1.4, seems to start, but it mentions a lack of kernel support (using Trinity Alpha 50 currently).
I would like for USB Tethering to be either native or at least kernel supported, so I don't have to go through something like PDANet which if I recall correctly, restricts you from using certain sites, requires another program to be installed on Windows, and etc...
Bump. I plan on going to a friend's house tomorrow, and would like to have some free method to do this. I saw Easy Tether and PDANet in Play Store, but I can't spare the money for either at this exact moment, and I already went through my free Play credit :/
I'm trying to figure out what you are trying to accomplish.
If you are trying to get Internet to your N7, just use his Wi-Fi with you're N7.
If you are trying to get Internet to your computer that you brought over, assuming you can't use a wired connection, get a cheap USB WiFi card for your computer (<$8)
Can't figure out what else thou would be trying to do with what you have written.
Sent from my Nexus 7
I want to share my Nexus 7's internet connection with my desktop, over USB. Easy Tether, PDANet, and Clockwork Tether all do this, but rely on their own programs and cost money.
A free, native option from the Android OS itself existed in Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich (probably Honeycomb too). I can't imagine the entire USB Tethering code just being stripped from Jelly Bean.
Edit: Some people on other devices report there is a USB Tethering option on Jelly Bean, so it seems to not be available on the Nexus 7 by default. The question is, how to enable it though...
Sharing WiFi from a phone makes sense since it is using 3G to get the Internet and creating a WiFi hotspot. Sharing WiFi from the a device that itself needs WiFi to get Internet from doesn't make much sense.
Would be a lot simpler to just get a wireless WiFi adapter for your computer... I have 5 of these at the house so when a family member drops off a computer for "repair". I can place them on the kitchen table and give them Internet access without running a wire from my home office. a wireless solution without any tethering... Especially if the goal is to get Internet access to your computer.

No store nearby sells a wifi card/adapter, and I have none currently. I may look into buying one later, but this won't help me when I'm down my friend's house later today :/
I tried using Easy Tether Lite, but it blocks majority of what I even want to do. Clockwork Tether seems to work, but is quite slow for some reason :/
Jellybean has support for the native USB Tethering option. The setting doesn't exist though on Nexus 7 ROM's, but exists on other devices, and can be used for exactly the same purpose I'm trying to achieve (Wifi > Android Device > Computer).

It most likely only exists on devices that have 3G/4G data capabilities which the Nexus 7 does not for the reason that it doesn't use WiFi to provide WiFi access... it uses 3g/4g data for access and creates a WiFi hotspot.

Even if this is the case, devices using GB and ICS were still able to USB Tether natively, regardless if you had Wifi as the main connection, or 3G.
I doubt Google decided to only restrict tethering to cellular devices with Jellybean. My guess is is that the setting can still be toggled via Terminal or something, I just have no idea how :/
This is the app I used to use in the past on my SGT7
http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
In order for it to be used, the kernel must have:
Code:
CONFIG_NETFILTER/CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES and/or RNDIS
Kernel sources for RNDIS for devices that don't have it is available as well on that site.
I don't have a machine setup yet with Linux, or else I'd just try compiling a kernel on my own, but perhaps another kernel developer may want to give this a try in the meantime

Na no phone either. My mom has a Galaxy Prevail, but I imagine she wouldn't want to be without her phone for a day or two.
Does anyone perhaps know of a free, unrestricted tethering app? Clockwork Tether seems to be a good choice (free for 14 days I think it said), but for whatever reason, the speeds are extremely slow. Easy Tether has no problem with speed, but restricts majority of what I can do unless I pay $9 (which, I'd rather not do, nor can I at this point in time).
android-wired-tether does not work on the Nexus 7 even with the kernel modifications because the device tries to access usb0 directly and that interface is never created.
What is everyone using for Wifi Tethering? (for those on unlimited)
Doesn't the phone have to be rooted to use wifi tether? At least on verizon anyway it says I have to sign up for a hotspot plan.
I was able to do this on my old phone one I was rooted.
I've tried all kinds of stuff . No dice. Sucks I was using 30+ gigs a month on my deuce would be nice to have my Hotspot back

I was able to do it on my S4 without root
I'm coming from a rooted/unlocked/whatever ReZound - and the WiFi tethering is the one thing I really want in the new phone. I don't need root or custom roms or anything like that - I just want good updates and hopefully a good app that will allow me to circumvent VZ's HotSpot software.
Here's what I'm doing until (if) we get root. PDANet works well for USB tethering (I long ago paid for the full version).
The PC part of the app has a feature called WiFi sharing, which basically turns your PC/Laptop into a wifi router, using the USB connection to your phone as the internet source. Granted this is more annoying than just using Wireless Tether, but at least it is possible to create a WiFi hotspot in some form. **Disclaimer, I haven't actually tried the WiFi sharing yet, but since USB tethering is already working I see no reason why it won't work as expected. I'll try to confirm when I get home if anyone cares.
Works for me out of the box?
In Settings->More Networks, I have options for USB and Bluetooth tethering, and Mobile Hotspot.

I'm assuming you don't have unlimited data. This won't work for those of us that have it.
I care to know if it works for you - even if it is a half backwards method of connecting - it is better than nothing and better than paying Big Red the extra $30 a month.
working for me on the S5
nm. someone already posted it about 3 replies above me. Pdanet + FoxFi is our only way!

Does FoxFi work? I read this post but see nothing about it. Works on my Wife's Note 2 on 4.3 locked down
Here's what I'm doing until (if) we get root. PDANet works well for USB tethering (I long ago paid for the full version).
"The PC part of the app has a feature called WiFi sharing, which basically turns your PC/Laptop into a wifi router, using the USB connection to your phone as the internet source. Granted this is more annoying than just using Wireless Tether, but at least it is possible to create a WiFi hotspot in some form. **Disclaimer, I haven't actually tried the WiFi sharing yet, but since USB tethering is already working I see no reason why it won't work as expected. I'll try to confirm when I get home if anyone cares"

Foxfi won't work. Pdanet (and surely other USB solutions) work. My laptop is hosed at the moment (I rarely use it) , so I can't test turning a laptop into a hotspot using pdanet wifi sharing or an adhoc but it should work. Yes it would be a rig job.

Thank you. Didn't know where FoxFi was brought up. I am still running my unlocked S3 but without wifi tethering on my unlimited data plan the S5 is out of the question for me. Will wait for a fix before I use my friends upgrade...
I downloaded the free version of PDANet - and got it working on the PC just long enough to load a web page. Then it disconnected. I'm not sure if the phone is adapting or if this is the way the free software works. This would be all I need if the USB connection remains with the full version.

With the s5 I notice that it will often disconnect shortly after plugging it in, I think USB connection is checking drivers or something along those lines. It will reconnect though, and has been extremely reliable for me. More so than native CM tethering. I would always use this for big downloads or watching movies.

You prompted me to update all the Samsung SM G900V USB drivers - and lo and behold - it works for more than 20 seconds. I'm on it right now.
I think this will work for me in pinch. Thanks for providing some direction - I'm going to go ahead and purchase the full license since it is on sale right now.
My SM-G900V was disconnecting from foxfi+pdanet over USB when hooked up to my mac. Setting it the USB mode to Camera (PTP), instead of MTP, seems to have fixed it.

Do you have Android File Transfer installed. Also, do you have debugging enabled? I have the android SDK installed (with ADB working and all that), but that may not be necessary.
i have the new unlimited data plan, looking to see if any app works? getting an error with PDA net ( old foxfi)
anyone?

Didn't the plan have tethering?
I found this on a Verizon thread, but it worked for me. If you install Side Sync for the PC and connect your phone via USB you can run the tethering option and it will create a wireless hotspot that doesn't try to activate.
Worked for me, but your results may vary.
Once I get home I'll post my SideSync version. It has an update so it might not work anymore.
I'm going to be using it sparingly though, I know it violates ToS so I would be careful.
Does this need to be done every time to activate the hotspot? It's weird because it works on the Verizon version of the phone. I went into att today and installed pdanet on the s6 s7 and s7e and all 3 had same error... Installed on lg v10 and no issues... Wonder what it is...
Yes, I have to connect it to my computer every time to activate it. Which is fine for me. Pretty much the only time I will be using it is when I need it for my computer. I am running SideSync 4.0.2.309. I have the install EXE if anyone needs it.
The newest version (4.3.0.92) also has a working hotspot.
I followed this link and now the mobile hotspot works

This didn't work for me... Tried it on OSX. Maybe ill try on Windows when I get home.
I must have left wifi enabled on my phone when doing this. If I turn wifi off and just go with data, when enabling the hotspot I get the error. Sorry folks, disregard my link!
Anyone found a way to get enable mobile hotspot via S7 edge? I just bought the phone 2 weeks ago, gave it to my sister because it wasn't able to hotspot nor root.
I have the grandfather unlimited plan...

It is disable for unlimited plans. Not sure if there is a solution to this problem yet.
Just wanted to let you all know that this still works for me. Yes you have to have a computer to do it, but it works flawlessly. I am on the new AT&T unlimited plan that doesn't allow tethering, but this allows me to do it. And since I use it to connect my computer to the internet anyways, it's not a huge deal that I have to connect it every time. Other than rooting your phone (which we can't do yet), installing an unknown or untrusted APK, or paying for an app that may or may not work, I can't find another way to do it.
Side Sync is created by Samsung, and I am using it on a Samsung phone. If AT&T does contact me, I can play dumb because I am just using Samsung software that I was recommended to use.
Just my two cents. It works in a pinch and works great.

I have to connect my phone to my computer via USB to start the hotspot. But once it's started, it is a Wi-Fi hotspot with a really weird name (SIDESYNC_HOTSPOT_86:53) that can't be changed. I can then disconnect my USB cable and connect my laptop, tablet, tv, ETC. to my phone and use it's internet without having the phone connected to the computer.

Yeah, not working here. Just says its not active on my account still.
Assuming the command is the same on adb for OSX right?
No commands needed.
Just install Samsung SideSync
Connect your phone to your computer
Open SideSync, if it doesn't automatically open
Go to More > Enable Mobile Hotspot.
Your Wi-Fi hotspot should now be enabled.

I misspoke.
It does not leave the Wi-Fi hotspot enabled once your disconnect from the PC. But while it is connected to the PC, you can connect other devices wirelessly.
Wi-Fi hotspot isn't the same thing as Mobile Hotspot. Wi-Fi hotspot uses the wifi connection that your phone's connection is connected to and that allows sharing. Not AT&T's network.

Well sorry, I misspoke. I meant mobile hotspot. I have no WiFi at home (I live out in the middle of nowhere). So it creates a "Mobile Hotspot" that other devices can connect to, as long as your phone is connected to your laptop.
Just got finished on a 2.5 hr chat with a Sprint Sales Agent to finalize my pre order for the Note 7. I am very confident this device is the one. My only concern is that FoxFi_2.19 on the Note7 without root, with PDAnet_A4150 on my Samsung Laptop will work as well as it has been with my temporary S7 without root. The S7 has Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow without root. Little sucker tried downloading an OTA the first day out of the box. Stopped it in its tracks at about 8%. FoxFi_2.19 worked perfectly sending internet connection via bluetooth to the laptop and created WiFi hotspot on the laptop via PDAnet_A4150. Even got my VMs on a desktop in Virtual Box to obtain internet via the hotspot. Note 7 comes stock with Android 6.0. I think we'll be OK.
If I have to root to use connection tethering, I will. It worked so well for me with my Note 4, it has been my exclusive source of internet. Told Cox goodbye. Looking forward to getting to know this new device very smoothly and methodically. Very grateful to the devs for all they do.

The spec data from my sprint account shows the Note 7 comes with Android 6.0, but the summary on the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 7 page says it ships with 6.0.1. Guess we'll see on delivery day.
I can confirm that USB Tether using PDANET on laptop and FoxFi on Note 7 works without fail.

You must be doing it wrong. How are you starting it? Are you going into Settings, Hotspot and Tethering? If so, don't go there. Go to the FoxFi app.

Don't use the wifi mode. It triggers the sprint subscription prompt. Yes. The bluetooth works for internet. Start the bluetooth in the FoxFi app on the phone. Then in PDAnet on computer, connect to phones internet via bluetooth. Once connected, you can create a wifi hotspot on the computer with the PDAnet wifi share to share the internet connection with other devices. Only thing is the subsequent connections via the wifi share must be made static, not dhcp. The wifi share will have a gateway address of 192.168.137.1, so just make the connections 192.168.137.2, .3, .4, etc.....
Sweet. Once last question, what about sharing with other mobile phones or tablets. Would bluetooth work?
