Hi all,
haven't found a thread in this forum about the problem but... have someone problems with OOS 11.1.1.1 and Gmail? Mine does not sync and I lose a lot of emails. Is there a workaround/fix to resolve?
Thank you.
I'm also seeing this sporadically. The mails don't sync to the phone until I go into the Gmail app, at which point they load right away. I'm not losing any, just missing the notifications. I was seeing this on just one of my three accounts (intermittently) before the update, now all my accounts do it, still intermittently. I'm having to peek at gmail to see if anything important came in, several times an hour.
I'm still having this problem. It comes and goes. All battery optimization etc. turned off for Gmail.
Seems a general problem in OxygenOS, because other OPs have the same problem.
For what it's worth, I've booted to (stock) recovery and did a cache wipe from there. After rebooting and letting the system rebuild cache for a little while, email notifications are coming through for Gmail. I can't say how long this will last, but it does seem to be working for me at the moment. Note that doing a cache wipe from within Android/settings/apps/gmail/storage - wipe cache DID NOT fix the problem; I had tried that previously. It was doing the full cache wipe for everything in recovery mode that had a favorable effect.
FYI, Also started experiencing this issue on some custom roms running OOS 11 base. It is intermittent on both OOS 11.1.1.1 and custom roms. I get my Pixel 6 thursday and will be curious if the sync issue is present in A12.

The issue only present in oos11xxxx and some custom ROM that based on it. On other version and phone they are working fine.

I agree. However, it is intermittent. For example, I received the gmail notification of your reply to my xda post. Currently, using stock OOS 11.1.1.1. Anyway, 5 days til the Pixel 6 is in my hands.
Just as an update, after doing the full cache clear in the stock recovery utility, my gmail has been flawless for all three accounts.

Tried this solution, but after some days stopped working... So, I think something happens on syncronization process.

It's funny... a day or two after I posted my "all clear, working fine" note, it stopped working again. Going back into recovery and clearing the cache again fixes it... but for how long? I don't know enough about how the cache is used for the various components to guess what's going on. I recall from previous efforts that clearing JUST the GMAIL cache wasn't a solution immediately after the upgrade. So it's probably some other Google component cache getting bogged down.

I think the same, because I noticed sync problems also with Google calendar (less than Gmail, but sometimes happens). Did you notice problems with calendar?

I don't use the calendar for much since I'm really tied into my work calendar on another phone. My wife uses the calendar, on an account we share (so of course I get all of HER notifications, <facepalm>, but they are rare enough that I can't really track how faithfully it is working.
i'm constantly missing phone calls through gvoice and can barely send and receive anything in messenger lite. something is wrong with the battery optimization here because i've done everything i can to try and remedy this to no avail. wat do
Hello,
i'm still using the xXx 12.4 Nolimits magisk module
within my stock 11.1.1.1 oxygenOS.
I rebooted once selecting the
"rebuilddalvickcache" option (.profile file)
and now my gmail account is syncing correctly.
It's 16 days since i done that, hope this can
help other users that are using xXx too.
Good luck

Hmm, wondee what they fixed then
Just updated to the new patch 11.1.2.2 last night. Did a recovery reboot and cleared cache. Will now observe to see if the two problems I've had (gmail stops getting push updates and pedometer dies in Google fit after a day or so following reboot) go away. I will update once I have data.
Is there already a permanent fix now?

I'm on JFADP1.51 CRB43 along with the new 1.35 Hero Theme installed. The Marketplace has suddenly stopped informing me about updates.
When I access my "My Downloads" section, it does not show a title for "update". Whenever searching for the specific app I already have installed, it shows me that there is an update available. This goes along with just casually browsing the "All" app catalog.
Could this be because of the ADP1.51 version of the ROM? I've been using this ROM for more than 3 weeks.
It looks as if this is targeting all a variety of ROMs.....:

I created another thread that's dealing with the same issue (just throwing links to each other to help anyone that comes along with the same problem hopefully find a solution).

I really appreciate it that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. I was reading your thread and found the link to my thread from there.
EDIT: Seems that clearing the Market cache does nothing...
Haha, no problem I was going nuts thinking I was the only person whose apps weren't updating
I'm hoping it's not an intentional thing that Google decided to shutoff access to anyone w/a hacked rom/root or something
Hopefully it'll be fixed soon!
Shouldn't be related to hacked ROMs - I am on stock 1.5, and have same issue.

so do i for this market not updated for the app, right now im using jf 1.5 ADP....we just waitin for the confirmation from google why this thing can happened

your phone is still on after a few months of not paying????? they turned my phone off at midnight the day my bill was due a few months back, i wasn't even able to call t-mo and figure out wtf was going on. i was a day late and they turned off my phone even though i have been a loyal customer for 7 years
I also started experiencing this problem a couple days ago, im on JF 1.5 ADP with the Hero theme. If you search for it manually though, it will say update available. Weird stuff.
Same problem here...it was working when I was on Cyanogen 3.2...ever since I upgraded to 3.4.4 about a week ago it stopped working.

Work Arounds!
I am having the same issue as well, but it does not seem to be ROM related.
I have been using Cyanogen's ROM's since version 3.2+ and have never had this issue until recently, but seeing as how people with stock phone's are having the issue as well.. that eliminates the possability of it being ROM's.
I tested out clearing Market Cache which did not work. The only thing that seems to be working for me is going through and searching for the app manually, which will list an update for the app your searching for, just not in the My Downloads option.
OR
You can download aTrackDog from the Market which will find updates to all of your apps and you can download from the Market using that. But if anyone else seems to find a workout or fix, please let me know
I'm having this problem also.
Is anyone that has this specific issue able to download paid apps? This seems to be broken for me as well.

Yep -
I have this issue (UK Magic on O2 with Cupcake stock). Noticed it last week. Bought CoPilot (UK) on Sunday and 2 apps today without any further issue.
My 2 cents: I did briefly try a non-Market app (using the appropriate checkbox) the other week - could this be a cause?
I'm currently using aTrackDog to get my updates (I've tried clearing the cache and it did nowt).
Why don't you start using aTrackDog? This should help for your problems while someone will find the solution for this.

Well damn. I cleared cache and even verified the permissions of my app-private directory. I've wiped and reflashed.
Both problems persist.
Just out of curiosity, what was the non-market app?

wifi my friend. My voice and data has been off for a couple months lol.
[SOLVED]
Hi,
I've found a way to solve the market issues and missing updates issue.
I'm running CyanogenMod-3.5.2.
These are the steps I recall I've done to fix the problem:
1) Open the Terminal and:
Code:
cd /data/system
mv packages.xml packages.xml.old
2) reboot the phone,
packages.xml will be recreated
this may took a little time so be patient.
3) you have to enter your gmail account info again.
and some apps could forceclose.
4) reboot again
5) I've run also the fix_permission script in the Terminal,
but maybe it is not necessary, so you can try to skip this step:
Code:
/system/bin/fix_permissions
6) run the Market app and you'll see Update available in My downloads,
if there are some updates for your apps, downloading and installing also
works again.
7) You can delete packages.xml.old now if you want:
Code:
cd /data/system
rm packages.xml.old
That's it.
So far I've not noticed any malfunctioning, all my settings were retained
and all apps seem to work. Hope that I've not forgotten any important step,
so USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
UPDATE:
:-( sadly this worked only initially, the missing updates issues is not resolved
but at least i can download apps again. Seems like a file permission problem tough.
hello again guys
i'm having this problem which is so frustrating...
i was on revolution hd (froyo) and i had a problem with the market app. whenever i clicked on new releases app list, i got an error about "com.android.vending" and the app would restart. i thought "oh well, i'll install a gingerbread rom" and so i did.
i wanted to try the LeeDrOiD rom so i followed all the steps needed to do so. went into market again and the same problem came up. did it again. cleaned dalvik cache, did a factory reset, wiped caches, and always after each step i flashed the rom again. the problem was there again. in spare parts app, whenever i clicked on battery history, i got an error (again) only this time for a different process (logical)
so, i thought i should try the revolution gingerbread rom (since i was so happy using the previous version)
after finishing the rom flash, i went into market and the problem is there again.
the process is named "com.android.vending" and it crashes whenever i try to swipe the new releases list.
the other app error i get is when clicking on battery history in spare parts. i get the "com.androidapps.spare_parts" process termination error.
(gosh!!!!!!) i even installed a second app called BatteryHistory and whenever i click on in i get an error again. this time it's com.blogspot.aidizen.batteryHistory"
i really don't know what to do. is there a problem with the device itself ??(hardware-wise)
any help would be really appreciated
thank you guys. i feel really bad cause these might seem minor problems to you experts. i know am a newbie and i hate it spending your time with all these
Cheers !!!
First, the battery history crash in spare parts is normal because the battery history function appears to be nonexistent in Gingerbread.
For the market crash I would propose the following solution:
1.) Full Wipe in Recovery and install a fresh ROM.
2.) Set up a clean Google account.
4.) Use this Google account for the market, for the time being don't restore any backups or anything.
5.) If it worked, try eliminating these steps one by one to find the source of the problem
Well, I did it all again from the start. I used full wipe 1.3, did a factory reset, wiped data, installed the Rom again (did a new download of it) and the problem is still here.
Market crashes whenever I touch an app in the new released app list.
It seems really strange. I'm thinking there might be a hardware problem since I changed 3 different roms.
Does anyone have anymore suggestions? I would REALLY appreciate it.
Thanks a lot guys
Flash an RUU. If the problem persists it may be a hardware issue, although in my opinion it seems unlikely, if it doesn't it's a software issue.
Personally I would rather you did the wiping by hand as then at least you'd have an indication if it fails for any reason.
this is much weirder now....
i seem to have solved the problem. i did a "market cache clean" from within settings -> applications -> all -> market -> "wipe everything".
it works but the funny part is that the interface of the market app has changed. on the top of the app, instead of 2 "listing" choices (top free + new apps) i got a 3rd choice of "top paid"
oh well, the good thing is that am back to normal.
thank you guys for your time
Cheers !!!

That's normal, at least in UK, have google perchance updgraded market in Greece? I Know they announced enhancements and increased pay markets at the O/I.
they changed the market in Greece so that you can purchase apps. obviously, the app was upgraded to support this but something went wrong with the previous version cahce (idk, i guess that's what happened)
i can't tell you if the pay markets are increased cause we didn't have anything showing. when i came to london, in march, i could buy apps since the market interface changed to support the purcase.
oh well, the good thing is that the problem is fixed.
Cheers !!!
Hi Guys,
Must say I'm loving Lollipop so far, however I have a really annoying issue - my Contacts / Phone app keeps crashing. 'Unfortunately Contacts has Stopped'. This occurs almost every other time I open the dialler. And randomly if I leave it as a background process.
I'm running the German Lollipop build, with BTU UK CSC. I'm rooted with Philz Touch recovery.
I've reflashed, factory reset, cleared cache, cleared the apps cache & data, fixed permissions, pretty much all I can think of! All to no avail!
My contacts are all synced via google, and use Ubersync to pull through high quality photo's from facebook.
However after removing all contacts, ubersync and various syncing etc this is still occuring....
Any ideas?
I've been getting that one lately, and I don't even have Lollipop yet. I am using True Caller and think it might be related to that.
Same problem on my note 4 and I don't even have lollipop yet

Thanks for the reply - I don't use any 3rd party app to manage Phone or Contacts! At least you have an obvious candidate for the cause!
It's driving me nuts!!
I've been in Gmail and tidied up my contacts - long overdue to be fair and how much fun that has been! Maybe there was something up there - though after resync was still occuring so unsure....
I've factory reset again - It seems to be working fine at the moment - something i'm installing or updating must be causing it. I'm now going to install all my stuff one by one until I find what's causing it....

I am also on BTU CSC and German lollipop, no issue at all, but i am not rooted, stock and everything is working great and getting great battery life too.
I didn't wipe data only cache if this helps.
I'm having this on and off. Non rooted. UK unlocked.
Has happened to me 3 or 4 times since Friday that I updated to Lollipop.
It's really random too, once it happened after taking a photo, another time when I exit from Viber.
Thanks for the responses guys - feels better to know i'm not alone.
I flashed lollipop and restored my backup. On every boot I get contacts fc but then that's it never again till I reboot . So looks like it's either not lolipop related or perhaps related to the new modem?
I know this is a note 4 thread. I am using an S5 and started having this issue after upgrading to lollipop. So it is not just the note 4.
Yeah I noticed the error too after installing Lollipop, happens once a day while exiting an app it happens randomly.

Hi, had the same problem, randomly of course.
Phone is locked on Orange Romania, nonrooted and started after flashing lollipop.
Tried all....cleared cache/data on contacts, contacts storage, phone, all the apps that are related to contacts, changed date format, wiped cache/data form recovery, factory reset, etc.
Then i thought it must be related to another app....and which one it's the buggiest of all? Facebook
So i disabled facebook (u can't unistall it now...thank you samsung for that and for all the bloatware) and made a bookmark with it on chrome.
So far, no contacts fc and that since yesterday. Normally i'd had at least 4-5 till now.
Hope it helps!
I was beginning to think some Facebook link was at cause here....
This seems to have settled some - i've seen one FC of contacts this morning, and then Facebook updated a short while afterwards. Touch wood - i've not seen Contacts crash all afternoon!

Hi everyone,
I've been having a very strange problem for a couple of days now. Whenever my phone's screen is off and the phone has been idle for some time, I don't receive notifications anymore. Facebook notifications don't work at all, no matter whether the phone is active or not, but I also don't get FB Messenger and WhatsApp notifications. Sometimes they come through as soon as I turn on the screen, and sometimes I only see them when I open the respective app. I didn't mess with app permissions, and I also have set each app to "important" in the notification settings. It also doesn't seem to matter whether I'm on WiFi or on mobile data.
Gmail, SMS and calls don't seem to be a problem, although I sometimes have a feeling that emails come through to my phone with a considerable delay, as compared to my Gmail inbox on my computer.
The strange thing is, when I had the phone all new, everything worked as it should and I received ALL notifications from EVERY app IMMEDIATELY when they came in. This issue with notifications no longer coming through started occurring a couple days ago after I had first flashed the Boeffla Kernel (though I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that.) So I went back to the stock kernel, but the problem was still there. Then I re-flashed my original Nandroid backup from when I had first flashed TWRP, in order to set the system back to "stock", wiped data and cache, re-installed every app (the critical ones, i.e. Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp, via Play Store, and the non-critical ones via Titanium Backup), and the problem is still there. I've done this three times now, to no avail.
My phone is rooted and I have Xposed installed, I'm using SuperSU and a number of root apps such as 3c Toolbox, Le DPI Changer and Font Installer. 3c Toolbox is set to clear caches on every reboot. As for Xposed, I use only VibrateMode to change the notification slider from all/important/none to all/vibrate/none, and GravityBox to center the clock in the status bar and to set the volume buttons to skip tracks on long press. I also have Glimpse Notifications installed so that the screen lights up when a notification comes in.
The funny thing is, notifications not coming through is one of the reasons I switched to the OPT from the Huawei Mate 7, where this issue was due to power management settings by Huawei. Since I'm now back on the stock kernel and have also no power saving apps such as Greenify or Amplify enabled, I am really out of ideas as to why this happens. The next step is to flash a fully stock OOS 2.1.2 (my Nandroid backup is already rooted and with my Google account set up), wipe data and cache, and re-install every app again.
Does anyone here have any idea what the problem (and the solution to it) might be?
UPDATE: After I wrote the last sentence, I received two messages simultaneously, one from Messenger and one from WhatsApp. I was at home and on WiFi, and both coming in at the same time must mean that the phone receives push notifications in fixed intervals, since the sender of both messages was the same person and sent them consecutively, i.e. with at least a minute in-between. Now I am especially confused since a) they came through at all, even though the screen was off and the phone had been idle for at least 15 minutes, and b) they came through at the same time, which was definitely not the time when they had been sent.
The confusion is complete now ... any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
The problem persists. Today for half a day I received all notifications, after that once again only when I turned on the screen or opened the respective app. WiFi all the time, no settings changed in between.
This really annoys me to no end. I don't own an expensive smartphone so it doesn't work as it should. I never had any troubles like this with my old Sony Xperia V. Then again it ate through a full battery in half a day ...

Yes. As I said, I reflashed my original (rooted but otherwise unaltered) Nandroid backup and then reinstalled all apps, and am not using anything that could interfere with apps receiving notifications.
The order in which notifications come through automatically vs. only when I activate the display or open the respective app also doesn't seem to follow any regularity ... sometimes it works as it should, sometimes it doesn't.
As for Facebook notifications, I somehow have a feeling this is a specific FB-related problem. But as for Messenger, WhatsApp and now also Instagram as I've noticed, it's all the same issue as described in my original post. The only exception really seems to be Gmail, which always notifies me of new emails.
EDIT: All these apps have unaltered permissions, i.e. are allowed to keep the phone awake, and all apps are set to "important" for notifications, so this doesn't seem to be the issue either.
EDIT 2: I also installed push notification fixer to see what interval is set for the GCM services, and it's set to 5 minutes on WiFi and 6 minutes on mobile data. So that also can't be the issue.
Could the screen not lighting up when a notification comes in have something to do with deep sleep, possibly? But then why does it work for Gmail???

I could suggest you one more thing. Its a shot in the dark .
Could you check "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" in you advanced Wi-Fi settings ?
If the above is not a problem then out of ideas buddy. As a last option you could clean flash by wiping everything and just install whatsapp and other apps in which you are facing a notification delay. If it works then there could be some other application interfering , it it doesn't then i am not sure what it could be.

Yeah, that's pretty much my last resort. Currently, I'm trying to see if it makes a difference whether I keep FB Messenger and WhatsApp "open" in the recent apps menu.

I could try that, you're right - I didn't yet because I didn't want to sacrifice battery life too much ... but I could give it a shot for at least one charging cycle and see what the effect is. Thanks!

i do remember reading some time ago that these intervals do not impact the battery life, but you could test for yourself just to be sure
So, currently most notifications are working again for me, for whatever reason. Facebook being the big exception, of course. Might have to do with keeping the apps opened in the multitasking overview. If that's what it takes, then fine ...
I've got a OPT for few day, i have same issue......anyone experience this problem? any solution? is it 2.1.2 problem?

Which app? Only Facebook, or other apps as well? For me it's working now, but I can't say why exactly. I use a number of tweaks on my phone (root, Xposed framework etc.) so I can't definitely say which of my apps cause issues and which fix them again.
As for Gmail, it appears that when there's already a notification for an email and a little later another one comes in, it won't play a sound or vibrate. That seems to be standard behaviour but I find it VERY annoying, even though I set Gmail to notify me on EACH incoming email.
despite suggesting a fix i seem to be experiencing the same problem as well. it happens on both wifi and mobile data so you cant blame any settings. my best guess would be its because of the latest update. gonna have to backup my data and revert back to the older firmware to solve this issue.
@vonotny have you found a solution? im experiencing the same problem after updating to 2.2.0

Not really, no. Mine are currently working again, after I re-flashed the stock system and set up everything again step-by-step. It's possible that some app or tweak or setting caused the issue, but I couldn't find out which one.

i suspected it could be because of restoring apps from titanium backup directly instead of downloading and installing them from the play store first, but even with that i still face the same problem. currently on oxyslim. come to think of it, could it be caused by the power tweaks? did you use them before when you faced the problem?
Same problem here on OOS3.0.1. Inbox and WhatsApp messages don't often come through until I turn on the screen. Completely stock. Didn't have the problem on CM13, I think. It's really annoying because I can miss a lot of important emails from work. Even put the apps I want in No Battery Optimization mode. No help really.
i have the same problem. I'm on OOS3.0.2 with Cyanoxy. Can anyone help?
Same problem here...
What the F?
This device is almost a year old and I still can't use it as PHONE. I am not asking for some fancy stuff, but fixing the gigantic bugs that are preventing me from even using this daily.
Fix for those willing to tweak the system: install the latest Boeffla kernel, it has an option to turn off doze.
Every time I click on the comment button of a post the Facebook app crashes. Anyone else with the same issue?
With as crappy as the coding on Facebooks app is who knows. I have not seen this and I am on 9
Hmm, discouraging. I've cleared cache, deleted data, uninstalled and installed the app to no avail.
I am on totally stock unrooted 9
I am having similar lockups on multiple apps. Stock-unrooted aug 6 build of P and I tried a full device reset.
Not seeing any app issues same release of P ...hmm have you done a cache clear on the device? Meaning the os not indevidual apps.

I get exactly the same thing on my stock Pixel 2 XL since upgrading to Pie. However, it works fine on a Pixel 1.
I've tried uninstalling FB and re-installing and no joy.
The Facebook Lite app works ok, but that's garbage and doesn't have all the functionality I need.

Being out of the scene for a while, how do you delete the dalvic cache... ie how do you put the PH-1 in recovery, and do you have the delete cache in stock recovery?
Edit : I did put the phone in recovery mode but, as I expected, the stock recovery image does not have the delete cache option like a custom recovery. Hmm surprised to read that not even a factory reset solved the issue.
I've never used the FB app. Who knows what it is doing when you aren't using it, even if it is closed/stopped.
Better way...open your browser, instead of going to www.facebook.com, go to www.m.facebook.com which
loads the mobile version, and in your browser settings, you can always use the desktop version if needed.

No problem here, all good.
And just like that, it fixed by itself. I did not update the App, nor anything else....... mistery of technology!

More likely an issue with your Facebook account. Facebook has AI doing code corrections all the time in the background. They also sometimes fubar stuff and then correct it a couple of days later. This has happened to my account more than once.
Mystery of Technology... LOL, no, more like Bugs of Technology, and Pie just came out, so expect plenty of them until it matures a bit...
