hello again guys
i'm having this problem which is so frustrating...
i was on revolution hd (froyo) and i had a problem with the market app. whenever i clicked on new releases app list, i got an error about "com.android.vending" and the app would restart. i thought "oh well, i'll install a gingerbread rom" and so i did.
i wanted to try the LeeDrOiD rom so i followed all the steps needed to do so. went into market again and the same problem came up. did it again. cleaned dalvik cache, did a factory reset, wiped caches, and always after each step i flashed the rom again. the problem was there again. in spare parts app, whenever i clicked on battery history, i got an error (again) only this time for a different process (logical)
so, i thought i should try the revolution gingerbread rom (since i was so happy using the previous version)
after finishing the rom flash, i went into market and the problem is there again.
the process is named "com.android.vending" and it crashes whenever i try to swipe the new releases list.
the other app error i get is when clicking on battery history in spare parts. i get the "com.androidapps.spare_parts" process termination error.
(gosh!!!!!!) i even installed a second app called BatteryHistory and whenever i click on in i get an error again. this time it's com.blogspot.aidizen.batteryHistory"
i really don't know what to do. is there a problem with the device itself ??(hardware-wise)
any help would be really appreciated
thank you guys. i feel really bad cause these might seem minor problems to you experts. i know am a newbie and i hate it spending your time with all these
Cheers !!!
First, the battery history crash in spare parts is normal because the battery history function appears to be nonexistent in Gingerbread.
For the market crash I would propose the following solution:
1.) Full Wipe in Recovery and install a fresh ROM.
2.) Set up a clean Google account.
4.) Use this Google account for the market, for the time being don't restore any backups or anything.
5.) If it worked, try eliminating these steps one by one to find the source of the problem
Well, I did it all again from the start. I used full wipe 1.3, did a factory reset, wiped data, installed the Rom again (did a new download of it) and the problem is still here.
Market crashes whenever I touch an app in the new released app list.
It seems really strange. I'm thinking there might be a hardware problem since I changed 3 different roms.
Does anyone have anymore suggestions? I would REALLY appreciate it.
Thanks a lot guys
Flash an RUU. If the problem persists it may be a hardware issue, although in my opinion it seems unlikely, if it doesn't it's a software issue.
Personally I would rather you did the wiping by hand as then at least you'd have an indication if it fails for any reason.
this is much weirder now....
i seem to have solved the problem. i did a "market cache clean" from within settings -> applications -> all -> market -> "wipe everything".
it works but the funny part is that the interface of the market app has changed. on the top of the app, instead of 2 "listing" choices (top free + new apps) i got a 3rd choice of "top paid"
oh well, the good thing is that am back to normal.
thank you guys for your time
Cheers !!!

That's normal, at least in UK, have google perchance updgraded market in Greece? I Know they announced enhancements and increased pay markets at the O/I.
they changed the market in Greece so that you can purchase apps. obviously, the app was upgraded to support this but something went wrong with the previous version cahce (idk, i guess that's what happened)
i can't tell you if the pay markets are increased cause we didn't have anything showing. when i came to london, in march, i could buy apps since the market interface changed to support the purcase.
oh well, the good thing is that the problem is fixed.
Cheers !!!

I'm on JFADP1.51 CRB43 along with the new 1.35 Hero Theme installed. The Marketplace has suddenly stopped informing me about updates.
When I access my "My Downloads" section, it does not show a title for "update". Whenever searching for the specific app I already have installed, it shows me that there is an update available. This goes along with just casually browsing the "All" app catalog.
Could this be because of the ADP1.51 version of the ROM? I've been using this ROM for more than 3 weeks.
It looks as if this is targeting all a variety of ROMs.....:

i am having the same problem. I haven't paid my bill in a couple months (being jobless sucks) so I assumed that's why....?
I created another thread that's dealing with the same issue (just throwing links to each other to help anyone that comes along with the same problem hopefully find a solution).
momentarylapseofreason proposed a possible solution. Although it didn't work for me, I'd be interested to hear if it works for others:

Then go back to the Market and you should see the updated versions (Worked for me with HandCent and MobileDefense.

Thank You bitbybit!
I really appreciate it that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. I was reading your thread and found the link to my thread from there.
EDIT: Seems that clearing the Market cache does nothing...
Haha, no problem I was going nuts thinking I was the only person whose apps weren't updating
I'm hoping it's not an intentional thing that Google decided to shutoff access to anyone w/a hacked rom/root or something
Hopefully it'll be fixed soon!
Shouldn't be related to hacked ROMs - I am on stock 1.5, and have same issue.

so do i for this market not updated for the app, right now im using jf 1.5 ADP....we just waitin for the confirmation from google why this thing can happened

your phone is still on after a few months of not paying????? they turned my phone off at midnight the day my bill was due a few months back, i wasn't even able to call t-mo and figure out wtf was going on. i was a day late and they turned off my phone even though i have been a loyal customer for 7 years
I also started experiencing this problem a couple days ago, im on JF 1.5 ADP with the Hero theme. If you search for it manually though, it will say update available. Weird stuff.
Same problem here...it was working when I was on Cyanogen 3.2...ever since I upgraded to 3.4.4 about a week ago it stopped working.

Work Arounds!
I am having the same issue as well, but it does not seem to be ROM related.
I have been using Cyanogen's ROM's since version 3.2+ and have never had this issue until recently, but seeing as how people with stock phone's are having the issue as well.. that eliminates the possability of it being ROM's.
I tested out clearing Market Cache which did not work. The only thing that seems to be working for me is going through and searching for the app manually, which will list an update for the app your searching for, just not in the My Downloads option.
OR
You can download aTrackDog from the Market which will find updates to all of your apps and you can download from the Market using that. But if anyone else seems to find a workout or fix, please let me know
I'm having this problem also.
Is anyone that has this specific issue able to download paid apps? This seems to be broken for me as well.

Yep -
I have this issue (UK Magic on O2 with Cupcake stock). Noticed it last week. Bought CoPilot (UK) on Sunday and 2 apps today without any further issue.
My 2 cents: I did briefly try a non-Market app (using the appropriate checkbox) the other week - could this be a cause?
I'm currently using aTrackDog to get my updates (I've tried clearing the cache and it did nowt).
Why don't you start using aTrackDog? This should help for your problems while someone will find the solution for this.

Well damn. I cleared cache and even verified the permissions of my app-private directory. I've wiped and reflashed.
Both problems persist.
Just out of curiosity, what was the non-market app?

[SOLVED]
Hi,
I've found a way to solve the market issues and missing updates issue.
I'm running CyanogenMod-3.5.2.
These are the steps I recall I've done to fix the problem:
1) Open the Terminal and:
Code:
cd /data/system
mv packages.xml packages.xml.old
2) reboot the phone,
packages.xml will be recreated
this may took a little time so be patient.
3) you have to enter your gmail account info again.
and some apps could forceclose.
4) reboot again
5) I've run also the fix_permission script in the Terminal,
but maybe it is not necessary, so you can try to skip this step:
Code:
/system/bin/fix_permissions
6) run the Market app and you'll see Update available in My downloads,
if there are some updates for your apps, downloading and installing also
works again.
7) You can delete packages.xml.old now if you want:
Code:
cd /data/system
rm packages.xml.old
That's it.
So far I've not noticed any malfunctioning, all my settings were retained
and all apps seem to work. Hope that I've not forgotten any important step,
so USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
UPDATE:
:-( sadly this worked only initially, the missing updates issues is not resolved
but at least i can download apps again. Seems like a file permission problem tough.
I've been using the HTC News widget to keep an eye on a few technology feeds and a few other things for a while and find it pretty handy. Unfortunately for reasons I haven't found it decided to stop updating around two days ago. I have it set to update automatically every four hours but that wasn't happening and tapping the bottom area to force a refresh just left it hanging at "Updating" without success.
I tried removing the subscriptions I had and added two test subscriptions to see what happened. When I finished adding them I was back at the home screen and it told me there was no news. Considering one of the subscriptions was Gizmodo I find that impossible to believe so something has bugged it out. Being the genius (HAH!) that I am I decided to try and see if going to "Manage Applications" and forcing it to stop would fix it. Big mistake! Now when I try to add the widget or launch HTC News it looks like it's about to open and then I'm staring at the home screen. No crash message, no errors, it's just as though the app quit instantly.
That's where I am now. I have tried restarting the phone to force all processes to restart at boot up but it didn't work so now I'm stuck with a the HTC News app failing to load. Any suggestions on what to do to fix this? I still have no idea why it stopped working in the first place either.

I am having the same problem. Did u get a system update from HTC? I think mine stopped working after this update.
Yeah, the second update not long ago. I think that's when the random reboots started too.

I have just sent HTC an email about this RSS News reader problem. i will keep you updated if I get a reply.
same problem here, but not related to the update!
i know this from my past:
as my signature shows i'm coming from hd2, and i had a desire hd ROM running
at last. there, after some days of the same rom, the problems with non-updating
news reader started to happen. i even felt smart and deleted the data from the
settings/ applications menue of the news reader, after that i had the same
problem as dyonas: a non functioning news reader.
sorry, but back then only a clean start (factory reset or in case of the hd2 a
deletion of the data.img) worked...
would be also glad if somebody would tell us how to fix this without having to
reflash/hard-reset!
Funny that you say that TML, I backed up all my apps thinking that it would be the only solution that would definitely fix it. I'll wait and see if we hear anything other than this but it shouldn't be a big deal to restore the apps again. I'd rather avoid it but at least the option is there.
Well I figured I might as well try a factory reset and it worked. The widget works again, and as a bonus my DHD feels ultra nippy again. I thought it was a tiny bit sluggish after I entered account details for sync but a few minutes later I saw why. Notification bar said 36 applications restored.
This phone rocks, Google rocks, Android rocks. All I had to download were things from the HTC hub. I even still have my text messages from before the reset.

To backup apps and phone data I used MyBackup Pro from that market but as I said, I didn't need to install them since Google restored them. I didn't get settings and account information on things like Toutieur (twitter app) restored because I didn't restore my backup, I don't know if it will restore properly on the DHD since I didn't try. I was about to try so I could offer a better answer but I'm having issues with data connectivity tonight that I'm 99% sure are to do with T-Mobile.
Steps taken
Download VISIONary from the market and run it to get temporary root
Use MyBackup Pro with root privileges, backup apk and their data, backup phone data (sms, mms etc)
Factory reset the phone (Settings > SD & phone storage > Factory data reset at the bottom)
It gave me two separate confirmation screens (liked that!) then it does the reset, reboots and restores from firmware and the phone loads up after a few minutes.
That's all I did. It's worth mentioning that you shouldn't do this without plenty of battery life.
I am now having the same problem, the news feeds wont refresh! Is a hard reset the only option?
I don't know if a hard reset is the only option but the response I got from HTC suggested clearing the cache of both the app and widget, which I did before my "force stop" madness. The factory reset was a pain but short of waiting a week or more for HTC to get somewhere it's the fastest. Using WiFi during the setup after the reset it had all my apps and other information back within 10 minutes. The only things missing were sound sets and a skin I downloaded from the HTC Hub, everything else was there.
I just hard reset mine. Newsreader is now working. I got the same response as you from HTC

But returning to the channels list the red spot was still there.
I think that the reader think the news are already been red or something like that...

This morning, I decided to look at the 'My Apps' list through Android Market to see if I had anything to update. Typically there are about 20 apps to look at. Now there are only 3. I am running a stock Epic. I powered cycled the phone thinking it might have been a glitch. Same problem still occurring. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Indeed it did, and the issue lasted for a long time and I have no idea why. But I *may* have done a few things which helped fix it and perhaps Google was also at fault on their end, because the issue resolved and never came back (yet). Here's what helped:
-in the Market, download a program which clears your cache. 2 I use are Apps2SD and AntTek App Manager (requires root). The AntTek one is used less often because it clears more caches at a deeper level, but you may want to try it. First:
-go to phone settings/applications/manage applications. Find the Market app and clear both cache and data. You will receive a warning, but don't worry, all you'll need to do is accept Market terms and conditions again when launching. But don't launch Market yet.
-now, clear cache using the apps I suggested or maybe one or more of your own choice.
-launch Market again, accept T+C and now you hopefully will have all your apps back. The problem may reoccur but somehow I doubt your phone is at fault if it does. Eventually a combination of what you do and whatever the big G does may solve it like I think it did with me. Good luck.
Thanks!

Glad it helped. It would be nice if it was only a one-time event for you, unlike it was for me (about a dozen). Maybe (haha) this upcoming new version of the Market will be more *reliable* too.

Hi,
I don't know if someone else found this problem. I made a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RS9j4uiTDaE. It's also in FullHD.
And wrote a post in my blog in my native language, spanish: http://retreteinformatico.blogspot.com/2012/01/touchwiz-40-y-problemas-con-la.html
The video description is english. I'll also explain the problem here:
Simply put, TouchWiz does not save the icons in the place where I leave them. At first I organized all of them in two screens: one with folders and the other with most frequently used icons. After doing a power on-off cycle the icons are all scattered without alphabetical order in three screens instead of two. The folders maintain their ordering and screen. An icon (AllShare) is put between two folders and the other icons are divided in two screens, disordered, not alphabetical.
In the video you'll see first what I found after the icon position screwing. Then I get three or four apps out of their folder (Google Talk, Gmail, Maps, Market) and put them with the rest of the icons and the AllShare app is put with the rest, out of the screen with the folders. Then I power off the phone and turn it on again to find that GTalk, Maps, Market and AllShare are out of their place.
After that, I put the icons more or less where I want to put them (in two screens) and I do again a power cycle to show how did TouchWiz screw my icon organization.
I'm using Android 2.3.4 XWIK4 with baseband XXKI1.
If someone is able to reproduce the problem just tell it. Maybe touchwizh has problems if you put in folders the Samsung apps (Hubs and more), I don't know, but it's a big problem.
Folder/Icon rearrangement is a known problem with TouchWiz since day 1 when SGS2 got released.
Best way to get around is to use AppSorter and sort your App Drawer everytime you create a folder.
Posting problems about 2.3.4 when everyone else is on 2.3.6 = VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS!
Update your phone and test it and give feedback!

I read your first post about upgrading to 2.3.6. Well, if I just use the default Samsung support, I'm stuck to 2.3.4, as my phone is Austrian version and Samsung didn't release nothing newer than 2.3.4 for those phones.
So Samsung sucks big as a company and client support.
Of course if I start to root the phone and installing custom ROMs the problem would disappear, but flashing your phone and breaking your warranty is not something the user should do for something that's supposed to work from the beginning. Different thing is if the user wants extra functionality, but this is not the case.
So, all in all, I'll wait until ICS gets released and after that if it doesn't convince me, I'll root and who know if I flash a custom ROM.
I had that trouble before where one app ended up going to the next page and kept going back there. I think simply restoring the order, going to TwLauncher in the application list and then force stopping should make it remember the order you gave it once you go back.

If I force stop TwLauncher the apps are again "out of control" :-/
I'll try to clear the cache although I'm reluctant because I'll need to recreate all folders again
I have partially solved the problem by clearing the cache of TouchWiz launcher.
Now the SIM service app keeps going back to the same place out of its folder, but I refuse to clear again the cache and organize all my apps. Maybe it's because the SIM service app is something variable. If I kill touchwiz process that app appears inside it's folder (once the cache corruption is solved), but if I turn off the phone and turn on again, the SIM app appears out of the folder.
This is crap.
Well, know what? I've installed some applications at one time, all from Samsung Apps, and after rebooting the phone all my folders are empty and the apps inside them are all spread across 6 screens instead the 2 screens I managed to sort. The apps and folders have lost the position I assigned to them.
Now I have a bunch of icons in random order and I don't want to organize again 6x8 = 48 icons plus the home screens which would turn to default state after clearing the cache of the touchwiz manager.
It's very annoying and unusable. I want to throw the phone through the window.
What I can't understand is how this bug has been happening since launch date and Samsung hasn't been able to solve it. My only hope is the ICS update and I don't have much confidence on it. Probably I'll have to flash a custom ROM and then try to get some Samsung software on it.
The free games offer is very good
PS: Well, maybe it has some explanation->Samsung's poor software development quality assurance. Camera's firmware also suffer from it.

With all due respect, and not aiming to sound rood to you, with that mentality (it should work fine out of the box and I don't care if somewhere else there's a newer version...) you shouldn't be posting on XDA because people we'll obviously tell you to upgrade to the latest version, whether it's from a different operator/country (legit) or simply a leak.
You can't expect people here to act like the only way to use the phone is by following what Samsung/your operator is dictating you. We all know and have long ago agreed that operators and manufacturers are lazy when it comes to QA, and that's why a place like XDA exists

The camera firmware bug affects to all people, doesn't matter if you have stock Android or custom ROM. So we're all in the same bag. And this is Galaxy S II General forum, so I post this here because norms allow it.
Anyways, thanks for your reading.
Actually clearing the cache helped! Ever since I updated to 2.3.6 I have had this problem but after clearing the cache it has been resolved. But initially after the update the folders did remember for a couple of days after which the problem started for me. But for now clearing the cache worked well.

Hi,
Just got my Nex10. All good so far - got the System Update, tried a few games/web browsing (Dolphin seems a lot better than Chrome) and it all seems to be running quite nicely. Just got it charging now to hopefully get it up to 100% by morning.
Anyway, its a bit of a stupid question but as soon as I started the tablet up and entered my google details it started automatically downloading all of the apps from my Galaxy Note (phone). I don't want it to do this. I want to pick and choose myself which apps I want and do not want to install. I know that I can uninstall them again but I think this is messy,
I want to wipe the tablet clean and start again, but before I do it would be good if I could find out how to stop this from happening again.
Kind Regards,
Neil
I accidentally stopped all mine by enabling Aeroplane mode when they started...

Uncheck the "Let Google backup" tickboxes you see when doing the initial setup.

and also probably need to uncheck "Restore my Google account to this device" also during setup.
Another way is to simply "back" out of the setup the first time and reboot. WHen it boots again it will go through setup since you didnt finish but will not download any of your apps

When you start the Nexus for the first time, you get the welcome screen setup thing. Within that, there's a backup screen where you can choose to download all your apps that you have installed on other Android devices.
This is enabled by default, so you may have missed it.
To stop this, when setting up the tablet again, make sure to UNSELECT the option when on the Backup and Restore setup screen.
Hope this helped
Thanks for the help. That seems to have done the trick!
