So recently, I was experimenting of having Linux network tools on to my old DUK-L09 and for sure those testing require me to get it rooted. After searching around on the XDA Forum, watching multiple YouTube videos, and those doesn't work at all. After some googling and thinking, I got to know that Huawei (honor was a sub-brand of Huawei during the release of this model) had no longer issuing bootloader unlock codes.
There are few options left for me:
1. Get to the local phone repair shop, and ask if they have the tools and knowledge to perform something like that ->
2. Try all available free methods (i.e boot-loader code brute-force)
3. Try some so called "paid" tools that look like a scam to me.
After failing on the 1st and 2nd options, it came to my mind that, if this phone is from Huawei, it might be available in the Chinese Market (it did, it is known as Honor v9). So after searching around, it came to me that this guy from Taobao that actually has the tools and technique to help to get it unlocked -> https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?scm=1007.13982.82927.0&id=617190382061&last_time=1631366110
After consideration, I've decided to reach him out and paid like around USD 7-8 ish to unlock my phone and it works. He have done it remotely through remote desktop access (was using some Chinese application known as Todesk) and we spend about 30mins on that.
Prerequisite:
- Install Todesk: https://www.todesk.com/
- For security reason, it works best for you to have a separated account for his usage (for some reason, it wont work if you are using VM) with cmd and grant admin rights on needed basis:
"net user username password /add"
- Active internet access
- A working USB cable
- A Taobao account -> https://world.taobao.com/
- That guy's url -> https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?scm=1007.13982.82927.0&id=617190382061&last_time=1631366110
- Google Translate
I am sharing my experience for those who need it, especially those who struggles after Huawei ended the Bootloader code release support. If anyone interested on this option, feel free to try it out on your own risk. If you are a mandarin speaker, it work best for you. If you are not one, well then you might need to struggle little to get the communication part done.

HARDWARE COMPASS IN ALL HTC DEVICES WITH THE AK8976A CHIP?!?!
As said by some (tuxhero for example => here) ,the Touch HD has a real hardware compass inside waiting to be activated by some clever dev.
If you are such a dev here is some bounty for you as a little encuragement.
Goal:
Build a little proof of concept application (for winmo) and open the sources for all xda devs.
As for the bounty:
050$ Draque:the_Plaque
050$ maati + additionl 100$ if it works in google maps. (But only if released before the HTC Leo
050$ tids2k
050$ LC40

200$
reserved for more
It's nice but i am not sure. Please don't go on my words. Some one said that me and i said it to you. No real Proofs.
i thought the new Samsung OmniaII/pro was the only WM devices that has hardware for a digital compass

what other devices has this
it might be worthwhile to extract the compass application from the omnia2 rom dump for testing purposes
Is this screen from the omnia2 or pro?
And is this a test app from microsoft?
It doesn't work on my HTC Touch HD.
Hi, there is a test app that comes with the HTC Debug Tools set for this compass, some time ago I analyzed it and determined that it was likely present in the hardware, but I have never gotten it to function on my Raphael.
Lacking an HD device to test with, I can't say if it works there, but I can provide the app I will attach it shortly.
About the AK7986A sensor.
In the test application under help:
AKEMD 2007 (name and year is viewed)

The app is not signed.
Da_G, i just tried on my HD the soft you shared to us;
-open and close seem to be ok but nothing happens
if you choose to re-open without closing before it will give this logical error:board already connected.
edit:
-init, start and stop give this logical error without open : board not found

So the soft is probably ok but for our HD we need to use the good input/output in the dll

You have to copy the DDLs to Windows folder. However, "init" or "start" from the menu only brings up an error message "The board is not connected". Some graphical glitches as well ... seems to be made for QVGA.
So with a small possibility that Layar (3.0 ?) will come to Windows Mobile based phones, we really need a working compass for that to work.
Anyone still working on this? Would be a great addition for all our HTC devices!
Ps. For those who don't know Layar yet; it's an Augmented Reality app for Android and soon iPhone 3.0. Go visit http://layar.eu/ and think of trading WM for Android .

Same happens on a Rhodium, would be very nice to have it working.
It needs a device called ECS1:, this driver is not present on Touch HD.
Maybe first we should check if any of new WM devices actually have AKM chip inside?
Does Windows Mobile provide any kind of a compass API? How difficult would it be to write a program like Layar or Wikitude or build compass support into Google Maps?
I'm thinking about buying an Omnia II or waiting for the HTC Leo, both should probably have the compass hardware, but how about any apps that use the compass? How long do you think it will take until we see an augmented reality apps for Windows Mobile?
Does anyone know which compass is used in the htc polaris?
Ar are the cab files for the polaris hw compass available by chance?
btw: if anyone wants to raise the bounty for this project just pm me or write it directly into the thread.
I did some more research into this, I am working with a driver for this for raph right now..

Awesome! Thanks Da_G. Keep us posted.
Hi all,
BSODroid is my first Android application. It is a proof of concept implementation of a flaw in Windows Vista, which is so far unpatched (although Microsoft are due to start distributing the patch any moment now), that allows a user to send a Blue Screen of Death to that computer over the network.
To test your home, office or clients' machines, or even just to have some fun with your friends, all you need to do is connect to their network via WiFi, enter in their hostname (either IP or actual hostname will work), and press Execute!
Note: the target Vista machine must have network file / printer sharing turned on (though most people have it turned on these days)
This is a fun little application I created yesterday and have been having playing with my friends' computers on their home network and showing them the Windows flaw.
Video of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIy_d94tDmQ
As I said, it will be patched soon, so anyone who has Windows Updates enabled will be immune to it within the next 72 hours or so.
BSODroid can be downloaded from the Android Market (just search for BSODroid!) or alternatively you can download the APK directly from my website: http://www.dereenigne.com/

From what I can tell, it works on most of the beta copies and some RC copies of Windows 7, but it doesn't work on the RTM version - what a shame!
Still, lots of fun!
Didn't work on my Win 7 RC machine. Maybe I'm up to date?
My boss and I just had some fun with one of our users on MO. (we are in TN)

Yeah, seems as though it works on some builds of Win 7, but not others.
It works on Win Server 2008 too.
I hope people are having their fun with it now, because Microsoft already have a patch in the works - I'm not sure if it's being pushed through Windows Updates yet, but if not then it will be quite soon!
Though, it will still always work on machines that don't run Windows Updates

It's being installed by the user, so it's not a virus at all. I personally think this is a neat little proof of concept program, and would love to have a copy for my WinMo device. Besides, if these proof of concept exploits weren't created, the software companies wouldn't have a reason to patch/fix their software until somebody with more malicious intents came along and used it. Hope there's a port to WinMo soon.

why? there's ton's of stuff everyone at my office does that could be considered a 'virus' then...
even so, if you can do it from an android phone it's not a virus? somehow I don't understand that.
Quick video example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIy_d94tDmQ
Ha cool...
Could be fun to make a "one stop shop" for stuff like this.
There's the unpatched IIS flaw as well which is easy as hell to abuse.
Select exploit (or select all), select target ip (+port/username etc for stuff like an IIS exploit), execute (on an iis exploit that'd use default port, anonymous/anonymous).
Is there any interest in this? Think it could be rather interesting to code

Have almost broken 1000 downloads! (Currently at 950)
If anyone's interested, go ahead and give it a try from the market!
Thank you. Great app, worked with my windows vista sp2.
Thanks!! I'm dying for this kind of apps
If this had a way to find IP's in use on the network it would be perfect, or just a multicast mode. Go to starbucks and listen to everyone groan at the same time.
I installed jbed and also midlet manager.
But still I can't find gmail for my touch pro 2.
Anyone has an idea what I should do next?
why do you need the googleapp? Use active sync and sync up your google account. That would get you your email and any other google things you might need
is it possible to sync gmail account with those tags and search function?

Maybe the OP doens't want to use Outlook, or Outlook is being used for an Exchange account.
The d/l links I have for the gmail jars are no longer valid. You can go to http://www.google.com/mobile/products/mail.html#p=winmo with your phone. I have no idea how to get this page to work, but there it is. I have Esmertec and the gmail app running on my phone and I can't get a download link from this page. Maybe it's just me . . .
i pointed my mobile web browser to gmail.com/app and it says
"Sorry The Gmail application does not work on your M850.
However, you can access gmail on the go by using the web version.
Get instant acces to your Gmail for free on the go. Carrier charges may apply."

i just tried all that in IE on the phone & it errors out when trying to install the jad file. I don't know why they don't just provide a link on their site to download to your PC & move the file over to your phone
Why do you wish to install the gmail app anyway?
I'm just receiving my mail through the standard mail application on my phone and this works great.
I tried the program gmail myself, but I didn't think it was that nice to work with.
xnifex's post refreshed my recollection. Go HERE USING PIE. This doesn't work with Opera. You should see an "Install Now" link. The current version is 2.0.6.
I didn't install over what I had, since I didn't want to take the chance of hosing it.
@lilchip85 and xnifex: This is a java app, so you need to have Java installed on your phone (Esmertec, etc). Depending on your provider, you may or may not have it. If you have a Verizon phone, it is NOT shipped with Java. This might explain why your installation is erroring out.

Here the .jad file for the latest version working on my TP2
stoutseun,
Do you know of any way to determine the current g-mail version from within the application? I can't find any sort of Help, About function. I know I have some flavor of 2.0, but loaded it from a cab that didn't have the version number.
I don't want to re-load on top of it if I don't have to, so I don't step on my signing and font tweaks.

COMPANY: TeamSpeak Systems GmbH, Germany
JOB TITLE: Exceptional, Senior Android Developer Wanted
NOTE: European residency required as you will be working with our Germany-based dev team. English fluency required. German fluency is ideal but not required.
HOURS: Full time preferred, part time will also be considered.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for an experienced Android developer to create a mobile version of our popular, cross-platform client which is primarily used for voice chat (VoIP). You will have the opportunity to look at sample code for an already existing version of this mobile app (former developer code) which utilizes a client lib for most of its operational, non-GUI features. Our intent, however, is for you to recreate this app with a more polished GUI look and feel, in addition to adding numerous missing features which will bring the app up to par with its iOS counterpart.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and understand our existing Windows/Mac/Linux client-server voice chat product, how it operates, and what sorts of features and functionality our existing users will expect for its Android version.
- Work with our development team to determine initial set of requirements, and contribute ideas for improving the Android app's usability and overall user experience.
- Write clean, modular code to implement the desired requirements with little supervision, and submit periodically to dev team for review via subversion.
- Engage in primary, core testing of the app although our development team will also conduct some testing and report bugs/issues back to you as well.
- Work with our support team to document and fix bugs with reasonable turnaround. You will need to setup, manage, and maintain your own bug-tracking software (eg - Mantis or similar). Our support team will require access to this system and assist in reporting bugs and issues for you to work on.
REQUIREMENTS:
- You must reside in Europe since you will be working with our Germany-based dev team.
- At least 4 years in mobile development experience, with 2 years in-depth experience in Android development.
- Demonstrated track record for developing and releasing Android applications. You will be asked for sample work and code.
- Strong understanding of Android OS, developing in ADS, interactive application development paradigms, memory management, network programming, audio playback and microphone hardware integration, concurrency and multi-threading.
DESIRED QUALITIES:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work within a small collaborative team and have a great passion in producing quality products.
- Demonstrated experience in working with others to solve challenging technical problems related to performance and usability.
- Self-starter with the ability to assess and resolve complex technical problems.
COMPENSATION:
You will be compensated as follows:
- A fixed, one-time fee to be paid in 3 parts.
Part 1 to be paid once the developer agreement is signed.
Part 2 to be paid once the initial, documented and agreed upon set of requirements has been completed.
Part 3 to be paid upon release of the Android app to the public.
- Ongoing percentage-based rev share based on actual (net) income received from app sales.
- Details to be negotiated and determined prior to hire.
Applicants should apply by submitting their resume or inquiry to the Business Development department via TeamSpeak’s ticket system at
http://support.teamspeakusa.com
Thank you for your time and consideration.
It's in the Play Store now: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kiwix.kiwixmobile
but not compatible with the NST (requires Android 3.0 and up)
Is it worth uploading the apk here for folks to test with? Or is this simply a matter of hurry up and wait?
This is what I just sent to [email protected] :
I was ecstatic to see Kiwix in the Google Play store today. However, it showed as not compatible with my rooted Nook Simple Touch (NST). I was able to borrow a friend's Asus Transformer to install Kiwix to, then pulled the .apk from it and transfered it to the NST via a microSD card. Unfortunately, I got a "Parse Error: There is a problem installing the package" immediately upon attempting to install.
The NST runs Android 2.1, with an 800 x 600 display.
I am willing to beta-test any fixes for the NST. You will also find a vibrant user & development forum @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1198
Thank you so much for making Kiwix available on Android. I believe this could be THE killer-app for the NST hardware!

I too got "Parse Error" while trying to install on a Gingerbread mobile (so that I can convert my old mobile into a offline wikireader).
Have you find any solution for this, if so please let me know. Thanks.
The dev replied, politely informed me not to expect a solution. However, in the meantime I found Aard Dictionary. It works wonderfully on the NST, and has much more recently updated Wikipedia libraries than Kiwix. Be prepared for a long wait to download the libraries, though, even on broadband.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I also found Aard interesting and have been using it as a dictionary on my Nook first edition e-book reader. But I missed its ability to work as an offline wikireader.
Currently I had downloaded the zim files of Kiwix (18GB), currently I will stick to it as I am near to my download quota for this month. Later (may be next month) I will download the aard dictionary files.
Btw I had successfullly installed jellybean on my old mobile (though some features like camera are not working) and installed Kiwix and using it.
For what it's worth, an aarddict dev stated a few months ago that he was considering a move to the .zim format (see this ) . I could only suggest contacting the dev for a status update. Perhaps he might have a beta you could test?
By the way, I am curious to know what .zim language/dataset is 18GB?

Thanks for the info, I will contact the aard developer.
Regarding the size of .zim in Kiwix, there are two types of wikipedia datasets
1. Non Indexed zim (10-11 GB)
2. Indexed zim (18-19GB)
In terms of content wise both are same (updated in 2012), but the advantage with Indexed zim is that it allows to search even in the content where as with Non indexed zim, it only allows you to search in the titles of articles (so size is less).
One advantage with Kiwix is it allows you to create indexing for non Indexed zim on your local machine, so you can save a lot of bandwidth.
What I found with the simple wiki (around 130 MB) file in Aard is that it also works similar to Non indexed zim (only searching in the titles). Please correct me if I am wrong ?
Aard allows to search inside each article in the newer versions. There is a dedicated search button when an article is opened.
I am trying kiwix right now and it seems to work pefectly. I will post if i encounter any problems.

I love Aard, and today downloaded v 1.6.6.1 to my NST. I do not see a dedicated search button or any way of searching inside each article, nor is there a Settings or Options button.
Searching would be wonderful in Wikipedia and Wiktionary. Have I missed something?

Might be, that this option is only avaible in android 4 and higher. The search button is accessed through the menu icon introduced with android 4.
