XDA form member @Zacharee1 created an app name "RCTD Remover for LG" and released it on XDA Labs at https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.zacharee1.rctdremoverforlg . Unfortunately, the software is no longer available on XDA Labs due to the host suddenly being shut down.

Thanks Mysticblaze347. However, the version you posted appears to be much older than the current version. My impression is that it is the initial release version of the software.
@Zacharee1 has the next version, version "7" available at his Android File Host repository space at https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745849072291699579 . Newer versions, unfortunately, seemed only provided an XDA Labs (which is gone).

It appears that version "8" is embedded within the Oreo ALPHA OMEGA ROM "A-O_US996_UNIVERSAL_20F_1.0.2.zip" flash file ( https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603909837 ). I still would rather have newer versions.

I tried looking and v 10 seems impossible to find so I re wrote a script (.sh) that can be ran via a script manager to apply on boot. It stops the rct.d service
I don't know what version this one is, but I got this one from XDA labs back in August 2018. Didn't think too many people would care about this since I'm assuming all recent custom ROMs have some form of it already built in.

My impression is that the main complaint about LG Root Checker Tool with LG V20 is that it was rather buggy on LG Android Nougat firmware and could result in severe performance problems. The problem does not appear to manifest on LG Android Oreo on my LG V20 US996 using the US99620f firmware (Android Security Patch level is November 1, 2018).
The RCTD Remover for LG software is supposed to work also on other LG devices, and not just the LG V20 family, and should also remove other things such as Triton (not sure what that is) for devices that use it, so its might be more valuable for other devices. I think it a good idea to retain a copy of it should one need it.

I have this sneaking suspicion that the I/O Q's shipped with H loaded but K in the recovery or whatever. I noticed that mine had changed when i did a factory reset. I don't know for sure though. Doubt anybody is able to get a logcat at this point in time. Do you have a device with ian67 H installed?

No. I don't own a Q actually. I operate a firmware repository for every Nexus device from the Nexus S onward. I mirror official factory images and OTA updates for posterity. The site is http://randomphantasmagoria.com. I just added a page for the NQ today and was looking to see if anyone had the OTA link so I could mirror it.

If anyone that has a NQ is willing to take about 30 minutes to assist: I'd like to find the IAN67K ota:
If you would like to help, here's what you can do:
Reflash IAN67K (if you are not already on stock, and you must be on stock to do this)
Root your device
Change the following lines in build.prop:
Code:
ro.build.date.utc=1339795569
ro.build.fingerprint=google/tungsten/phantasm:4.0.4/IAN67H/384240:user/release-keys
Check for updates
Post the name of the update zip it downloads

I'll give it a try in a little while.
You might need to check adb logcat while doing the check for updates, as we do not have the actual URL for it, just giving the filename will only give the filename.
I'm not sure how setting up adb works on the NQ though, I assume it's like normal devices as it has a usb port(?)
(if you know how to set up adb you can skip to step 7)
Download platform tools
Download usb drivers
extract both packages
Turn on usb debugging (I dont know the exact steps to do this on the NQ)
Install the drivers if windows requests it (and I am assuming you are using windows)
go to where you extracted platform tools and do "adb logcat"
Check for updates, if there is one available then post the contents of logcat
If you are able to get that far you can just directly post the logcat if you do not know how to read it.

Given the current (lack) of news on the NQ, it seems unlikely.

But I digress

Yeah it seems like a very minor update.
User facing changes:
Hubbroker.apk got updated (what is this? is it the NQ's launcher?)
Music2.apk got updated
Lib/frameworks/non user facing updates:
/system/bin/common_time
/system/framework/ext.jar
/system/framework/framework-res.apk
/system/vendor/lib/libWVStreamControlAPI_L1.so (WV as in widevine?)
and that's it, every other file is simply updating the timestamp.
OK, so maybe a dumb question, so bare with me here. I m new to the Q but not the android world.
How would us users who have a stock Q go about updating to this latest version. I am having issues with my Q after about 20 minutes and was hoping to give this a whirl and see if it fixes it.

I can almost guarantee you have the latest version as its been around since I got the Q last July.
I have the same issue you have as well. I'm pretty sure its a Google back end thing and not a problem with the build. Although Google may release an update that fixes the problem.

It seems impossible to find anything when 1000s of Google results are scummy suspicious paywall blogs with oddly similar comment sections. I was looking to update my phone to use Cyanogen mod but the device is not on the supported device list but there are devices from lower tier levels.
Full name for my device is: Galaxy J500FN (maybe it has a different name elsewhere ?) a mid range Samsung phone. In Europe. I found a thread about rooting it but that's not really the same.
Not sure how/where to look for answers.
I own the same device currently and would to get answers to this question. This phone has many users in Asia and Middle East. Btw the full name for my device is Galaxy j500H
I have searched a lot but no luck. I could find anything reliable.

Maybe just wanting something different. There are phones out there from Samsung and other manufacturers of lower and same tier with Android 5.1 which have custom roms.
And it's not just look and feel improvements, voice input/output, better image/video quality, batter life etc..

Ok getting the deodexed rom is easy.
Just install kitchen and cygwin on pc and setup the up correctly.
And then using cwm recovery make a backup of a factory reseted device and then just send me a screenshot of folders which you have.
After i tell you which filder to choose paate them into kitchen and start kitchen to make a working folder.
Then inside kitchen menu deodex apps and framework folder and then repack the rom.
After repacking flaah the rom using cwm recovery.
Your root will not be lost.
In least cases if root lost after flaahing the re root it using same method as you used before for rooting.
And for improvments you want in custom rom. I will try to get them in the rom.

Thanks but currently CWM is not available, I am using twrp and I know the procedure you just mentioned but I'd rather wait for someone to cook a rom than do it myself. Time boht kam hai dost
So install the terminal emulator and write this.
Su
Tar -c /system/* /sdcard/system.tar
And wait patiently for the emulator to respond ok
Now you got the system.tar
And now get the boot.img from the rom
When you get both the files paste them in original rom folder in kitchen and stary cygwin
You can get good guids on cygwin and dsixda kitchen and how to set them.up correctly.
If not then i will tell you guys tommorow. Today going to sleep it too late here 1:27 am.

So why can't we hv roms.

The functionality is gimped in the G/EU versions.
In the EU version it's just voice unlock, US version is far more extensive, have no idea why ZTE insist on fragmenting their user base with such stupidity.
If anyone can extract the .apk from the US rom that would be appreciated.

I tried to extract the apk from the full us b29 image from system.new.dat

I use ES file explorer which lets you backup any user or system app to a directory.
But the playstore has many similar backup apps dedicated just to backing up apks.
You could perhaps try this one.

Apk Export
Should just give you a list of installed apps, and then just navigate to MyVoice and it will copy the apk.

But it has still helped me compare the US/Euro versions.
Which in turn has led me to making some progress, It led me too 2x additional apks, One which I have installed, and I can get some of the voice options, although some menus are in English, and some in Chinese.
And some options are crashing, but I can enable voice unlock, or name the assistant, sound unlock, voice memos, weather.

What's got me confused is....
The apks I managed to extract from a custom rom are called...
HaloSpeech.apk this is identical to the MyVoice.apk you uploaded.
Same version, size etc but named differently....
My G version also called MyVoice.apk is slightly higher version.
These won't install or overwrite my version.
I also came across HaloSpeechBase.apk which is about 50Mb.
This seems to contain the extra and missing voice stuff and installed, and as mentioned I can get to many of the voice functions, some crash and half of them are in Chinese.
I cannot help but think there should be a USA version of this file likely called something like MyVoiceBase.apk or similar and should be about 49Mb.
So perhaps if you could look to see if there perhaps a similar file on yours.
But not sure why the custom us rom i extracted them seems to have Chinese versions. But I will try and keep digging in the meantime.
I have enabled some of the functionality., so am confident this is doable.

Hello,
Old thread, but maybe still someone can help around this problem..
I have got G version now, and some of the functions are missing of CH version as My voice, and MI-tools (with ZTE's factory shipped sound meter, calculator etc) and MI-Assistant
Also My Voice (as you called halovoice).
Anyone has it for the G version or someone could export it
from US (halospeech)
and also MI-Tools and MI-Assistant from Chinese version ?
I would really appreciate theese files!
Thanks in advance, AO
Hi all,
As you already know, in the last quarter of 2016 bug/vulnerability was explored called "DirtyCow" which was in Linux Kernel for 9 years
Google fixed the vulnerability in upstream devices with latest security bulletins but the vulnerability is still affecting billions of devices (from android 2.3 to android 7.1) unfortunatly
And with "DirtyCow" new rot techniques were developed, (e.g LG V20 rooter and universal rom debloater)

Yep, i was strugling with Google play team in past week, they removed my app from playstore for unknown reasons, they said they are not allowing to exploit vulnerability in device(even if it is just to test/check vulnerability that my app does) :/
and strangely they allowed same kind of vulnerability test app which developed by NortonMobile https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.symantec.android.nfr
and they are still refusing my app...... probably my fault is to be not high prestige company enough....

*** And if you wonder "DirtyCow" vulnerability affects your device or not here it is, you can check it yourself by using this simple app "DirtyCow Checker" :good:
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oguzhan.mordred.testdirty
No root is required, no ads, its free, if you like my work , you can support me by rating app in here and playstore thanx
EDIT: google strangely removed my app from playstore (i explained better in the above replies, you can look) here is the apk file of latest build: http://www.mediafire.com/file/6tjakn1nn33i1sv/Dirtcow-Checker.apk

Tried this and it shows my device is vulnerable.
So, I tried using dirty cow exploit to gain root access but getting the below error. Any help will be appreciated.
C:\platform-tools_r33.0.3-windows\platform-tools>adb shell /data/local/tmp/dcow /data/local/tmp/run-as /system/bin/run-as dcow /data/local/tmp/run-as /system/bin/run-as
/system/bin/sh: /data/local/tmp/dcow: can't execute: Permission denied
Dear All,
This morning when i tried to restore deleted photos from my A2017G (AEX 5.8 nFound Latest Treble ROM) because i accidentally deleted some important photos yesterday.
These are my spec:
- A2017G 4/64
- AEX 5.8 Treble by NFound build date 20180812
- Kernel Schwifty vR3+
- Magisk v16.7 (1671)
-- GL Tools Module
-- Magic Charging Switch Module
File recovery app:
- Disk Digger Pro File Recovery build date 20180805
I found some recovered photos which i never took with my camera or screenshot, and by the look of them indicated that they were taken silently by system (please notice there is no statusbar on the pics).
Can anyone else confirm my findings? Is it possible that the custom ROM itself does this or other software? I never installed any malicious or unknown apks on my phone but XDA Labs Apk and Magisk Modules.
Attached are some of my proofs (recovered with Disk Digger Pro), there are more but some of them are private whatsapp chat session and my contact lists.
Please be advised, this is a pure Q&A post, i never intended to accuse any developer of any ROM or Software regarding my findings posted in this post.
Any chance that recovery app showed original location?
do you need the file recovery app pro version to check? Root or standard scan?

No way, even the original name is gone.

Does the free root scan work? Or is there a free alternative that works? Don't think people will buy the app just to test this.
Can you tell us in which folder these screenshot files were placed?

free version is working perfectly for photos/videos, as long as you gave it root access.

they were "deleted" and the recovered files show no original name/loc.
For the time being, I move to PixelExperience Treble GSI.
I just hope and pray everyone else's data and privacy is safe using any custom rom out there.
Seeing similar screenshots here on Kranoner's last RR-O. My system has a lot of mods, but yours is clean right so it's not likely our apps or mods. I checked there's nothing similar on my Sony Z3C L14.1. Could be from custom bootstack or recovery. More likely it could be from closed ZTE code in drivers or bootstack. Easy way to narrow the cause to being proprietary ZTE code is running complete stock with root for awhile to check if it occurs. My ROM is B32 Nougat source with it too (though I think it has some Chinese B10 source mixed in looking at github), so can run B32 stock to check. Some screenshots are saved as 1440 while some as 720 resolution.
It will not look weird if this is true.ROMS from axon7 are maintained by someone from an "unfriendly state"
Moderator Edit: Please avoid being TOO explicit in your opinion on fellow earth-dwellers... I've edited the above. Thanks
Well this is strange then. Someone else mentioned the same Disk Digger discovered screenshots thing in the Moto G5S Plus forums earlier this month. Lluvia ROM. Wonder what's going on here.
I reckon it's time I examine my stuff on both phones.

That has got to be the most idiotic thing. So you're saying "they" (Kranoner, NFound, WesTD, et al) are subversives? Secretly and purposely grabbing goodies from our phones for some nefarious purpose? LMFAO.
Sure it's not beyond possibility but still...
That can be the case with anyone, whether they're flying the Red, White & Blue or the sickle and hammer.
Since a big chunk of ROMs are built by folks from around the world what are you gonna do. Start vetting devs to find out what their views are regarding the US/West before flashing ROMs. We really don't need that kind of thinking.
ZTE Axon 7 A2017U, AospExtended v4.6 ROM, LlamaSweet 0.5 Kernel, microG (NoGapps), Multiboot, XDA Legacy

ZTE, a government audited company from China recently got whipped by the USA for breeching privacy laws and providing equipment to Iran and you are worried about Russian and Turkish developers?
Do you realise that the Turks are big allies of the west? They fight with the west against trouble in the middle east.
And what connection would a developer have with any politics anyway?
Who says developers dont work in secret for the government? but i say crazy things fast lol,but not impossible. What else can the problem be?Google sources?

Please stop posting, unless you have something on topic to contribute. You're embarrassing yourself. Perhaps ZTE, please learn to read and get a basic understanding before spewing your filth.

I would try that recovery app but how could I trust that app, not being malicious?
Can't find anything helpful about that app dev.

You can twrp backup first, test and restore after. Keep net turned off all the while or use a firewall.
edit: to external card to not lose deleted recoverable images
Im not saying the developers are,but ther governments. But probably im wrong lol

What directory did you find these in?
I got one better, was trying to download one of the HellsGate Kernels on my computer and Chrome won't let me download it due to a Virus detected and MSE quarantined it. I tried two different mirrors and same thing. Could be a false postive after reading about it but just want to let people know about it.

Report says it's a Win32 trojan. Don't think that applies to an Android kernel build file. Probably false positive
