G981U Firmware Problem - Want AT&T U version - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Guides, News

Newbie that probably made a mistake......
I purchased an unlocked, G981U1 phone. Worked okay with AT&T but I didn't have some features including WiFi calling. The phone had TMB software per review of the Software Information screen but didn't have any splash screens. Decided to change to AT&T's U firmware to try to get WiFi calling. I first tried the firmware (G981U_TAW_1) in the link in the OP of this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-links-and-flashing-discussion-here.4054757/ . First step seemed to update okay (BL, AP, CP, no home CSC) but I never got the "reboot to apply new carrier settings" and the software still seemed to be from TMobile since I saw still saw TMB in multiple places on the software information screen page. I then gave G981U_UDA_2 firmware a try. This updated fine but then I had the T-Mobile splash screen and AT&T locked my account when I inserted the sim. I tried uploading the USERDATA file but that didn't make any difference. I am now reading more about this UDA and think that I now have a bootloader that won't let me go back to a U1 version. I am using Odin 3.14.4 but get the SHA256 error. At this point I would like to get either to the AT&T U version or the generic U1 software. I hope it's not too late to yell HELP!
Sorry for the repost but I decided I originally put it in the wrong forum.

I may be wrong with what I am saying so let me know... It appears that I am on Bootloader V2 now and can't go back to V1. Is there any firmware out there with V2 bootloader that will let me get back on the AT&T network?

Did you ever get this fixed? I can help, if not

No, I haven't got it working.

I believe you can just flash with the patched odin iirc I flashed U1 firmware on my W without an unlocked BL

Will an S7 Edge (T-Mobile) work on Verizon?

Hello all,
I want to switch to Verizon but I don't have a verizon sim to test my phone, I just got it unlocked through the unlock app. I've also read this post,

Well i live in Mexico, but i own a galaxy s7 edge from tmobile and to try nougat i installed first the Verizon version, and it work well, the only issue was to setting the data configuration, now i use the At&t nougat and everything still even more perfect (the verizon nougat have a lot of little bugs)

Using a Tmobile S7 Edge going to Verizon won't work cause of a few reasons.
1. TMOBILE S7 and S7 edge are not built for CDMA networks that uses certain bands and network. Along with the security of CDMA networks.
2. There is no band 13 on tmobiles S7 and S7 Edge. Even you were to unlock it.
But going from CDMA to GSM most phones work due most of the hardware and software is already built in the phone.

I can confirm this. Yes, your unlocked T-mobile S7/Edge will work with Verizon network if you flash the U firmware. I'm currently using my unlocked T-mobile S7 Edge with the U-firmware on the Verizon network. Voice, text, data work fine. No issues for me.

You can flash the stock Tmobile ROM or the U firmware. The only reason I got a new S7 when I jumped from big red was I had a huge scratch on my screen. I was running the U firmware when I went into tmobile and used the girls sim card from her phone to prove I could do it...

Don't know but I am on T-Mobile and I use alot from Verizon thread no issues so far
OK, so I have a question. I'm also trying to move from t-mobile to Verizon but I'm trying to keep my same phone. My phone is already paid off and i currently running t-mobile's SM-G935U over SM-G935T. But a couple of days ago i asked a friend to let me barrow his verizon sim card to test it out. But received a message saying "Invalid sim Card" "network locked SIM card inserted." Did i messed up something during the installation of the SM-G935U?

You need to UNLOCK your phone. It might be a Tmobile phone and running G935U software...but the sim is still locked to T-Mobile. Here is Tmobile unlock page information. you can request unlock in the T-mobile app or by calling T-Mobile....then it should see the Verizon sim and load up just fine once the phone itself is not locked to T-Mobile only sims. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
And for anyone else looking at this forum, There is no physical difference in hardware from a SM-G935T phone and a SM-G935U phone. Samsung actually made the hardware the same for all US Variants it is just the software that is different. And not that you would want too but you could load other carriers software on your phone if you wanted too(IE- running Verizon software on a SM-G935T, or ATT or SM-G935U (Stock Samsung Software) The only problem Running SM-G935U is they haven't upgraded the unlocked us phones to 7.0 yet. Where T-Mobile and other carriers already have nougat out.
The SM-G935U software however has all the US and even some Chinese LTE bandwidths enabled, and it also enabled the CDMA bandwidths to be used on the SM-G935 phones...hence why it will work with Verizon, Sprint, and even US Cellular if you can get them to put it on the account.*(I haven't dealt with US Cellular in years and with the new laws on moving phones from carrier to carrier in the US they might not have any issue with Bring your own phone to US Cellular anymore I do not know!)

Had you flash any ROM before via Odin?. If so, you will only need to download the verizon firmware (sammobile.com) and flash those files. if not > Open odin (Attached) load all the files accordingly (AP, BL, CP, CSC) in ODIN> put your phone download mode ( pressing fingerprint button + volume down + power) > connect phone to PC > Once all files are ready in ODIN hit start. You will get the success message and phone will boot.

If you are going to use a verizon sim, you will need to have it unlocked. Firmware flash won't sim unlock/lock the phone.

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought I was gonna be waiting months. I got it tho. The home csc file wasn't working so I used the other one that reset the phone to stock. It was g935u firmware for tracfone from T-Mobile if that helps anyone in the future.

I flashed the tracfone rom and everything is working well. I got a software update notification. Should ignore it or is it ok to update?
Bumping the thread...sorry guys. I just jumped ship from Verizon and went to Tmobile today with my S7 Edge along with my wifes S7 Edge. Can I flash her phone with the U firm from TMobile and is the U firmware from tmobile the same U firm that is provided to Verizon? Jist wondering. I've used Odin plenty and understand flash process.

Sprint Galaxy S8 converted to T-mobile made easy, I think?

So apparently all you need to do to convert your phones firmware from Sprint to T-Mobile is flash the stock BQK5 firmware (acquired directly from Sammobile) using Odin. After unlocking my sprint phone, I flashed this firmware with a T-mobile Sim installed. The phone booted up and upon it showing the home screen, shortly after it said something about it needing to restart and configure what I would assume is the newly installed T-mobile Sim. The phone booted, and all of a sudden instead of seeing the normal sprint boot sequence, I saw a T-mobile one instead. It caught me off guard because on my screen was Juvemex method of converting an S8 to any carrier firmware. I was both relieved and sad that I did not have to use Juvemex guide. Hope this helps anyone trying to convert their phone from Sprint to T-mobile. Obviously I have not tried that with any other carrier so I can only confirm this works on a sprint phone using the Sammobile firmware flashed with Odin. Good luck and let me know if this method works for you, knowledge is power:highfive::highfive::highfive:
How did you sim unlock your phone first?
I went to a 3rd party site and had them remote into my computer and perform the unlock. Unfortunately due to Xda rules I cannot advertise who it was specifically but I can say a general search on eBay does advertise the same type of service. Once that was done I did what I mentioned in the OP and my phone turned into a T-mobile one. It initially booted sprint which was obviously expected, but then it asked to reboot and then viola, T-mobile stock rom since

How to Full carrier unlock Verizon S8+ with Stock SM-g955u1 bloat free

DISCLAMER: I AM NOT A DEVOLPER AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU ON YOU DEVICE. UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO FLASH FIRMWARE ON THIS DEVICE CAN AND WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. BACK UP EVERYTHING IN EVRY CONCIEVABLE WAY.
After days of trying to do this with all the outdated guides and miscommunications and edits in post i decided to try and make a streamlined guide to help others.
NOTE: If your are looking for anything else other than a stock bloat free unlocked firmware then look elsewhere.
Also if you are using rev 1 booloader then this will ireversablly upgrade you to rev 2 bootloader not a real problem just a note
Download 3B's patched Odin 3.13 https://drive.google.com/file/d/17wH1YHcGsOCxbDGYDoy9VlnqO_Xi6IOm/view?usp=drivesdk
Download samfirm.exe
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XdboeTqk8pSZyJQVt-IHVHFfznJ9eOQk/view?usp=drivesdk
Thanks to @zxz0O0
If you can't find your own drivers don't do this
1. Extract B3 Odin
2. Extract and run samfirm.exe
3. Make sure auto is checked use SM-G955u1 as model number and XAA as country code then search. It should find you the absolute latest firmware
Hit download and choose file destination. This can take a while.
4. extract firmware.zip
5. Run 3B's Odin and add file to there respective locations. I.e. Ap file in Ap slot etc. Use the non home CDC
6. The only thing you need ticked in Odin are already set by default
7. Boot phone into download mode power+bixby+volume down while the device is off
8. Read the screen that pops up very carefully and decide to continue at you own risk by pressing volume up
9. Connect phone via USB 2.0 port do not use a USB 3.0 port it will not work
Make sure Odin recognizes device if it doesn't then u have a driver issue
10. Press start and wait patiently
11. Phone will reboot it self setup device and insert sim card. You will probably get a notification say phone not allowed a quick call to the service provider you trying to use is all that's in order here
12. Enjoy your carrier unlocked stock SM-G955u1 on your preferred network
I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR OWN DEVICE YOU WERE WARNED.
So this gets rid of all bloatware?
From my knowledge, Verizon does not, and has not ever carrier locked their phones. Seems like a lot of trouble just to debloat.. Am I missing something here?
Any idea why it stucks at "SetupConnection.."
This worked GREAT! My Verizon S8+was working fine on AT&T before I did this, but I was stuck on Android 7.0. So thank you so much for this. There's only one thing that bothers me is in my drop down menu there's a notification that says "Sprint OMADM Checking Device Status." Which really isn't a big deal, it's just annoying. Another thing I worry about is, i'm using it on a GSM network, is it actively searching for a CDMA network at the same time and draining my battery? Any input would be appreciated, and thank you again!

This being quite an old post I was wondering ...
I am currently on G950USQS5CSB1 with CSC XAS/XAA/VZW.
Currently I have no carrier bloat (good), I am on Mint with no issues (good) and I get prompt OTA's I assume for carrier VZW but I lack wifi calling which I would like (bad).
I have downloaded G950U1UES5CSB2 for G950U1
Will this work using the 3B modded Odin as described without having to flash the combination files?
normal and Prince Comsy Odin both failed.
Thanks
edit: Took the dive .... worked great thanks, now on G950U1 and have wifi calling and VoLTE
This is great, minus one thing, it installed facebook on my phone, which I didn't have before and never wanted and it won't let me uninstall it..
I'm hoping you are still monitoring this old thread. I have a Verizon Galaxy S8 and followed your instructions exactly (except that I downloaded the files for SM-G950U1 (my current model is SM-G950U). When I start Odin, it gets stuck at "SetupConnection" and never goes any further. Thoughts?

This would be great if it worked. However I have my doubts. You would first need to have the phone be from Verizon or be on another carrier and *unlocked* first before changing any CSC using the US OPEN firmware which allows you to simply put a sim card in and switch carriers by swapping sims and letting Samsung reconfigure the phone. The BEST setup is a SPRINT phone.. unlocked.. then converting to U / U1 firmware. You then have every possibility when it comes to carriers sitting at your finger tips!
Good Luck

Your post dont even make sense. The Verizon s8 at the time came sim unlocked. All you had to do was swap the csc. But worked unlocked out of the box. Why would a sprint device be the best setup. All the us s8s are identical. Sounds like you come from LG which is true on devices and versatility. Not Samsung.

All - I installed latest Tmobile firmware for SM-G950U downloaded from sammobile (G950USQU5CRK1) using odin3v3.13.1.
To my pleasant surprise I find that Wifi Calling etc works fine. You need to have TMobile SIM in the phone when you flash the firmware. I believe S8 automatically customizes firmware based on sim detected (I tried AT&T/TMO sims and it did).
It is likely that all the carrier change guides are no longer relevant (at least as of V5 bootloader) I am not an expert but please check out (at your own risk)

Will appreciate help.
Here is what I did or wanted to do: I switched carriers from AT&T to TMobile and tried to install TMobile stock using these instructions
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/snap-guide-flashing-standard-fw-carrier-t3625817
I have a V5 bootloader so I used Factory Binary from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...bination-files-bit-5-g950uu1-g955uu1-t3816112
Current State: I am on factory binary, but the instructions to change carrier files (32-33 in carrier switching) don't seem to work for V5.
I would like to get back to AT&T stock - but cannot figure out how to. I cannot find AT&T stock firmware with V5 bootloader anywhere. ANy help / guidance is appreciated

I have come to believe this as well. I was flashing the unlocked firmware on mine and if I kept my Xfinity wim in it it no matter what, would default back to my cct csc. So I tested and inserted other Sims flashed a CSC and auto configuration took over on boot and would reflash itself with the apropriate carrier CSC and sales codes...The auto configuration seems to handle most carrier changes. There is also a hidden menu where you can select a csc. And again. If I selected one if I had my sim in it would disregard and keep sims csc. If I removed it would take til I inserted my carriers sim.
Also at the bottom of this hidden menu you can select to disable auto configuration....
Don't know if this helps your hunting's and findings but it was observations I made

Any Gsm firmware that allows oem unlocking.

So i successfully rooted my unlocked att version of the s5e.
everything was great until i popped my sim back in and the device wouldnt connect to att's network
im assuming thats it because the base os firmware was CDMA and not GSM so the bands i needed werent available.
i flashed another os i think its tmobile. no oem unlocking feature in the developer mode. im trying the trick to unlock it with not luck.
anyone have any advice?
So i figured something out. as ive been trying to flash different firmware.
it is now rejecting ALL Cdma firmware. and will only accept GSM firmware.
So after trying everything i finally just started trying every version of odin i could find. and finally found one that worked lol

Perhaps it will be helpful to others. Could you elaborate?
ok to start off i followed the steps from another post https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...908u1-versions.4400511/page-155#post-88289615
i didnt have lte data and i needed it; so i reflashed ATT's firmware. when i went to try to load the us cellular firmware again. it would fail at system. everytime. after flashing lots of firmwares to get it to oem unlock, i finally discovered that. it was only failing on any firmware that was CDMA related.
spent an entire day and had almost given up.
then i started trying to flash the us cellular with every odin version i could find. and finally odin v3.13.1 raymond patched odin worked.
but after finally getting it to root again. i still have to figure out a way to get lte data on ATT sim
and i now have data with AT&T by following these APN instructions from AT&T
Program Data Settings for Your Device
Can’t connect to the internet on your mobile device? Here’s how to set up the access point name (APN) to get you going again.
www.att.com
used the broadband for android section,
hope this helps someone else
