Define "bricked/dead". Can't help without more info. Does it turn on? Does it boot? Etc.

It turns me on, it charges and when it turns on it asks me to configure it, but when I set the language and try to connect to the internet I can never and from there it doesn't happen. I have tried various Wi-Fi networks and from there it doesn't happen and I can't do anything else. And with the nook manager I can't do anything.

Are you in the US? If you have non-US firmware the "fix" wiil be different. It's not "bricked/dead".

That is one picture that is NOT worth 1000 words.
I'll have to guess that when you turn on your NST this is the screen it displays. Did you read the options at the link I gave you? If you want options 1 or 2 you need a way to get to the "Welcome" screen again. If you want option 3, you don't need to worry since your NST will boot from the various cards (region change, NookManager) and bypass the current roadblock.
To get to the "Welcome" screen again, power down the device. Now turn it on again but as soon as you see the "Read Forever" screen, press and continue to hold the two lower hardware buttons until you see a message about resetting the device. You'll need to press the "n" button twice to confirm. This deregisters the device without contacting B&N. Once you are at the "Welcome" screen, you can proceed with either option 1 or option 2 in the link I gave you. Again, if you want a fully functioning device updated to FW 1.2.2, your only option is #3, and you don't need to do the reset before following those instructions.

Can any Wizard owner copy out CapNotify.exe from your \Windows\Startup folder and DeviceLock.dll (assuming that's the right name) from \Windows and send it to me? I'd like to see if either of these programs will work on the Apache. Whichever you can provide, please PM me, email raphael143$msn.com, or post it here or somewhere I can grab.
Thanks in advance!
Here ya go
Can't find DeviceLock.dll. Not on UK/NK Vario dump and not on the new iMate dump. Sure that's the correct name?
Cheers,
Cacti
I think it's shutil.dll, that's what the registry points to.
Thanks. By the way, what does your Today plug-in tree look like for the Device Lock feature?

Thanks for the files le_cactus, i've been looking for them for a looong time. Would you be able to export the regkeys for the Device Lock?
BeyondtheTech, I also have an Apache but I cannot get either to work.
The CapNotify didn't show up after copying it to the startup folder and adding the EnableIndicator key.
The shutil.dll also doesn't seem to do anything either. It seems that the Apache does that the shutil.dll in the Windows folder but it's 5KB and the one on the Wizard is 29KB. After I replaced it with the Wizard one and added the regkey (at least what I thought would work). The Today item shows up on the list but enabling it shows nothing on the today screen, just a blank space. I also noticed that it cause my phone to not get any reception and when I click on the phone app, it won't let me open it (CPROG.exe not available or something like that). I ended up deleting it and soft reset. The original shutil.dll came back on its own and the phone is back to normal.
So, it seems like these two feature doesn't work on the Apache. Hope you have better luck with it than me BTT. Keep us posted!

LOL, I mean the tree of registry entries under the "Today" key. But, thanks for the pictures.
I understood that the device lock app wasn't very good? Is it worth looking into?

I think it would be worth it. For some reason, the Apache doesn't have this plugin. It would be nice to have so buttons won't get pressed by accident.
I've attached the capnotify.exe hope it helps.
Hello there.
I have downloaded the CAPNOTIFY.exe but cant seem to run it.
I do have it in my Startup folder, but couldnt run it there either, so thought it wasnt working, but cant getthe one link to above to work either.

Never had that problem. Sounds like its time for a new phone. When you go down there tell them to stop bullshitin and throw some really power in the wing. Godd Luck
Gimpy
I suggest you call T-mobile if your Phone is still under the 1 year warranty. They will send you a new phone if so. If not, I havent experienced that problem either.
my phone was doing that before i flashed it with Touch it and it hasn't since.

LOL. Dont smash it. Sell it on craigslist.
are you using any overclocking program on your phone (batterystatus, omapclock)...it could be some sort of settings with overclock on wakeup or something of that sort...try turning all of the programs off and see if it still has the same problems...
yeaa am using the overclocking program!!! could be doing that because it never did it before....ill disable it and see what happens
That's happened to me before actually now that I think about it.
What rom are you using? If I were you I'd do a hard reset or install a newer rom version.
am using the regular tmobile ROM...am guessing u want me to get touch it rite..
Download this, it's the Stock Tmobile RUU. It will restore your Wing to the original factory T-mobile Rom/Settings.
http://www.mediafire.com/?2nq9iu0a2nt
See if that maybe fixes the problem. Don't forget to back up your contacts and anything else you want to save.
Just connect your phone to activesync, then run the file.
isnt that the same thing as hard reset????
I say download a cooked rom. It was alil nerve racking for me at first, but after reading the same pages for a few weeks I finally felt confident that I could do it without brinking it. PLus with everyone here, I knew help wouldnt be to far away. And I cant tell you how nice it is to have all that freed up memory. If you need any help feel free to msg, Im not even close to as knowledgeable as the other guys here but Ill be glad to give as much help as I can.

Originally I purchased the 16GB model and exchange it with the 32GB one.
After doing the transfer dance for at least 5 times to get the right department... I finally ended into Galaxy Tab technical support. When I repeated myself for the 5th time... the rep told me: "Samsung Dive, what is that?" So I explained to him... and asked how to remove my tablet. He had no idea and he told me that he cannot remove that tablet id for me.
Does anyone has any experience with this situation? Thanks for your help.

Have you read the faq on samsung dive? If I undestand correct you have to wipe your account from your (previous) tab. If you still can see your old tab, you can test the wipe function . I would use that for sure.
Thanks for the info, I did a factory reset before I exchanged the tablet. But which one to wipe? I don't want to lose all my customizations. I really want to have that extra tablet removed... I proposed to the tech guy to send me a 16Gb tablet if they cannot remove it. We were both laughing...
You can let it ring, from that option maybe you can choose which one. When you know which one rings and which doesn't helps you in choosing the one to wipe?
Will it ring on a Wifi device? I tried and nothing happens...
Yes it works on WiFi models.
I tried on both devices. On one tablet I get this message:
If "Remote Controls" is deactivatied or you didn't allow "Google's Location Service", the use of this feature is restricted.
Where can I enable the Remote Controls feature? Google Location is enabled.
On the other tablet, nothing happens... it sits there spinning and it does not connect. So I presume that is the returned tablet. When I try to wipe it, nothing happens since it cannot connect to device. How wonderful.

I don't have that option on my Wifi tablet. Thanks for your help, though.
I guess I will have forever 2 tablets listed...
The thing is: it does not work with Google Location enabled... so I cannot ring my current tablet either.

With out Remore Controls enabled it can't be contacted.
Hello everyone, this is my first post on xda forums. I hope someone out there might be able to help me out.
I accidentally found out that on my galaxy s4 I9500 lock screen, I can still press and hold power button and it gives me options to power off/restart my phone. I have pattern lock enabled. I tried and successfully powered off the phone straight from my lock screen, not to mention that it scared me out. What if it gets stolen? Anybody can turn if off and I wont be able to track it down or enable any thing via SMS commands etc.
What's the purpose of lock screen if the phone can be turned off, if not unlocked, and I couldn't do anything about it.
I recently updated android 4.4 and I am not sure whether or not this issue persisted before that. I am attaching a screenshot of it. Looking forward for someone to sort this out for me. Thanks.

Did you just find out after reading this post or were you aware of it before?
And have you not thought that even if it is as you describe what is the benefit
not so great
If someone steals your phone much easier to remove the battery and that is even faster than pressing buttons
this is just my personal opinion

Yes, you're absolutely right, but then again it raises a big question mark on all the tracking and anti-theft apps as well as Google's own android device manager feature a bunch of crappy apps which do no good at all except for playing sirens via laptop on your own phone and thinking it actually works.
Plus if the thief is within the room, he wont go through all the trouble of removing the protective case, back cover and then removing battery itself. He'd simply turn it off and wait.
It has been like this since I can remember, way before 4.4. In GS3 and GS4, probably in SGII too, this I don't remember.

Looks like this is the end of my mako after 6.5 long years :good: I'll always miss this awesome phone :good: It introduced me to the world of android (yes, that was my first android phone) and I learnt a lot about android and learnt about building and maintaining custom ROMs.
Regards,
Nitin
On one of my two N4s, I had an inactive area in the center of the screen. After uploading CARBON-CR-6.1-NOCT-WEEKLY-mako-20180501-1310.zip the screen has been repaired. I was surprised.
Since then I do not change ROM on this phone anymore. I tried to load this ROM on my second N4, with an inactive area at the bottom, but it did not help.
Is it possible to adjust (decrease or increase) the voltage of the touch screen electric current?
P.S.
You can still use a limited range of such a phone after pairing with a BT mouse and/or MyPhoneExplorer.

That's interesting to know that carbon helped you. On my case, it's already running latest version of carbon
Apart from touch screen, the power button is also giving up. I've to let it go...
