Hello everyone, this is my first post on xda forums. I hope someone out there might be able to help me out.
I accidentally found out that on my galaxy s4 I9500 lock screen, I can still press and hold power button and it gives me options to power off/restart my phone. I have pattern lock enabled. I tried and successfully powered off the phone straight from my lock screen, not to mention that it scared me out. What if it gets stolen? Anybody can turn if off and I wont be able to track it down or enable any thing via SMS commands etc.
What's the purpose of lock screen if the phone can be turned off, if not unlocked, and I couldn't do anything about it.
I recently updated android 4.4 and I am not sure whether or not this issue persisted before that. I am attaching a screenshot of it. Looking forward for someone to sort this out for me. Thanks.

Did you just find out after reading this post or were you aware of it before?
And have you not thought that even if it is as you describe what is the benefit
not so great
If someone steals your phone much easier to remove the battery and that is even faster than pressing buttons
this is just my personal opinion

Yes, you're absolutely right, but then again it raises a big question mark on all the tracking and anti-theft apps as well as Google's own android device manager feature a bunch of crappy apps which do no good at all except for playing sirens via laptop on your own phone and thinking it actually works.
Plus if the thief is within the room, he wont go through all the trouble of removing the protective case, back cover and then removing battery itself. He'd simply turn it off and wait.
It has been like this since I can remember, way before 4.4. In GS3 and GS4, probably in SGII too, this I don't remember.

Gents,
Here is a little thing bothering me.
I use a BT headset most of the time, keeping the phone in a pocket/backpack while playing music.
The thing is that when receiving a call and answering it using the BT Headset buttons, the phone still wakes up and unlocks itself. Meaning that the device is now accessible by the touch panel but in my pocket/backpack thus messing with it.
Is there way to prevent that ?
So when answering to a call from a BT headset the device remains locked.
Thanks for any help on that.
David.
Anybody with that same problem ?
David on HD2
Hi there David,
I have had the same issue with my HTC HD2 for the past 6 months since I bought the phone and have not seen anyone come up with a resolution for this!
Even the Iphone handles this simple problem better.
I cannot understand how they can release a fantastic phone like the HTC HD2 that can just about replace a computer but can not do the simple job of not unlocking the handset when controlled with a bluetooth device.
I can only hope that there is a programmer out there that could tweek the registry to solve out problem.
Thanks Ace
Exactly. I feel the same way too. But just have to live with it I guess, just leave it and wait for the auto lock to kick in again
So I guess it is a wellknow problem with no solution or work around... at least we know.
Not pleasant to live with... having to stop on the side of the road because a call kick in while riding in the hot tropical summer.
David BT HD2 ironhorsing in Taiwan.
there is a solution, it's called s2u2. It has settings to set it to lock on call when using BT.

you want the wvga version.
Finaly hope arise... I am trying it right away.
Thank you very much for that.
Confirmed! It works!
Thank you very much nrfitchett4 .
And it gives some more life to the standby/locked screen.
Although one might want to change the default wallpapers...
The only little inconvenience of this app is that you have to re-start it after a soft reset. But it is worth it.

what do you mean?
You shouldn't have to restart it after reset, just lock your phone. You can set it to lock on screen off, or screen on, or manually.
nrfitchett4 you are right... my bad... Sorry for the misunderstanding.
The app is still working after a reset.

very good. Seems to be the only lockscreen that doesn't cause occ. lockups on energy roms.
Cant confirm that.
I use the original ROM from HTC that came with the device.
So I just got my Vibrant yesterday and today I notice something wrong with my screen. On a white background I see a dark Streak. I just wondering do you guys see what I am see?

I do see it, pretty weird... have you tried to play with the brightness to see if it gets worse?
If it was me, i would call to get a replacement... you got it yesterday so you're in the 14 days period to do return it, they will send you a new one.

Thanks for response. I have tried playing with the brightness but it is still there. Anyway looks like I have no choice but replace this device.
Yeah, even if you could "fix it" in some way, i think replacement/return it's your best choice. Good luck!
There is an free app called "xlight" (IIRC) in the market. It will fill the screen with white, red, blue, green, or yellow light. My phone display appears very uniform when using it, you might want to try it (or something like it), just to confirm the problem.
Looks like a defect to me. My vibrants never had anything like that. My first nexus s had a screen problem. It had a ring shaped watermark when viewed with any solid background. Yours is a streak but looks like a similar effect on the screen. You should get it replaced if reseting, etc doesn't fix it.

Make sure your replacement can get into download mode and recovery using the hardware buttons. Try it in the store. If not, keep asking for a new one. (Samsung has acknowledged this as a defect so tmo has to replace it)
If you don't know how:
For recover while the phone is off, press and hold volume up, volume down, and power at the same time.
Let go of power as soon as you see the first Samsung screen. You should be at the recovery screen.
For download mode pull the battery and plug in the usb cable. Hold volume up and down and put the battery in. You should see q little android digging.
If I screwed those up someone please correct me.

When I'm charging or docked I want the phone to charge as fast as possible so I don't want the screen or anything on at all..even if its a minimal clock.
Likewise Google has disabled the LED when in daydream mode so apps like LiteFlow don't work.
I'm missing the point I guess. A computer with a screensaver is one thing..but a phone we're trying to squeeze battery life out of doesn't seem like something you'd want daydream on.
The only way this would make sense to me is if Android had an option to 'daydream once phone fully charged' and then it can display currents or a clock or something.
Thoughts? Am I missing something?
You got me. Screen saver for a phone... which I want off when I am not looking at it? Guess it is just one more bullet point on the feature list for the boys in marketing (like 1080p).

As with a lot of things, it's all about preferences.
It *IS* something I want; I like seeing the clock when my phone is on my desktop dock. I have all the time in the world to charge.
I do agree the "daydream once fully charged" option would be a nice addition.
Just another feature that isn't used but marketed to consumers. Kinda like face unlock or the front facing camera. Will people use it? Yeah. But the large community won't be.
I've had a front facing camera for along time now and have yet to use it. I played around with it and that was that. I'm not saying that it's an useless feature but it's mainly used to market. Same goes for face unlock

Update to the latest Google current and use the news magazine as your day dream inserted of clock and colors
It's amazing....

I had pics of my nieces... kinda nice to have on your desk. Although after a while it got a little distracting... and I felt a little bad about putting those pictures away to actually use the phone , so I removed the feature.
It might look nice in a docking station or the like...otherwise I don't really see a point.

Exactly. It's for when you put your N4 on the google charging Orb.... oh wait.
I disabled daydream on mine. Even when (if) the orb comes out, I doubt I would use it. There is a computer right where I would put it so it seems a bit redundant.
I could see it being used as a photo slide show though (as mentioned above)
:good:

Apologies... Guess I'm missing the point of your concerns. If you don't want daydream then turn it off. There's a on/off switch for it in the top of the setup for it.
Hello,
About a month ago I had the opportunity to renew my mobile subscription. After 2 years of enjoying Samsung Galaxy S2 I decided to go for the new galaxy S5. So I got the phone and everything was fine for the first few weeks. Got use to the phone real quickly but had only one major issue. Every time I loaded up heavy graphical apps like asphalt 8 I got a really annoying and weird pixel rendering all over the screen. I have tried googleing my issue multiple times and have looked on many forms but couldn't quite find anyone with the same issue as I have been having.
There are 2 screen shots of asphalt 8 and a TV streaming app.

The bug also appears when i use the dual camera option.
I really like the new S5 and most of my other apps run smoothly on it. My question is has any one of you have or had this issue? Is it a software bug and should i not worry too much about it? I really hope some body can help me with this issue.
My carrier is T-Mobile in The Netherlands.
Yours sincerely.
M. Stuart
Since you mentioned that most of the apps run correctly, I would assume that your phone is acting funny only to a specific type of game engine or a specific type of code.
I would guess that it is not hardware related since you do not experience this problem on other apps.
Have you considered a factory reset to determine whether the bug persists?
Those could be artifacts. Does the phone get hot when that "bug" shows up?
I think it is a hardware issue. Smart phones are like mini computer. Computers show artifact on the monitor if the video card is heavily burdened caused by overclocking or just a sign that the video card is breaking down.

My phone does get a little hot when i'm playing the game. Its really weird. One day i had the game run completely smooth for a wile but then to back to the pixelated state in seconds. Oke i tried the next things: Usualy i have my phone in a flip case. After pulling the phone out. The pixels appeard only on the start screen of the game (asphalt 8) and some light flikker once in a wile.
Didn't know that it would be that big of an issue. The pixelation is still in the other apps. Now i'm wondering should i go to Samsung and ask them if the can relace my phone or do i have to live with it like this for the next 2 years.
Anyways thanks for the advice
Go to Samsung and have it replaced.
My phone is stock 4.4.2 with recent updates and not rooted. No issues at all just few small issues.
1) This is a weird one, if I play a video and sometime after closing video player the screen becomes like high sharpness, the white color in the screen increases. Its hard to notice but it does. But after turning off the screen and turn on again it became normal. Also I tried taking screenshot of both condition but all looks normal in that, only visually I can see that. Anyone see this issue ever?
2) Skype is very important for me for work and in its setting > Notification > I checked Vibration but it never does. Its notification sound cant change also its very low to hear outside. Please advice.
3) Spen: I dont know if its usual for everyone as I didnt tried any other Note 3 but in my phone the Spen is not responsive mostly at the screen edges. Suppose drawing a line it ends before the screen edge and mostly same all sides. I’ve a screen protector but that is not a thicker one. Its very thin so I doubt if the screen protector could cause this.
1- I notice that all the time ur not the only one
2- try clearing the skype data and reinstall it.
3- no problems with spen on my phone. I have a pretty thick screen protector on it as well. I didnt understand by unresponsive if u meant dead spots or just slower to draw but either way no problems on my handset.
Cheers!

Thanks for your feedback.
1) Its good to know I’m not alone, and probably a OS fault. Hope on next update this will be fixed.
2) I don’t want to clear skype data as I don’t want to lose chat histories. Somewhere I read this will require to enable Vibration 1st on setting and then it will work. But I have already enabled vib for call. Don’t know if there have any other option in setting to enable vibration.
3) By unresponsive I mean it works flawlessly but I’ve to press it little hard on the screen to write properly. With firm writing or light gentle pressure if draw a straight line across the screen it creates a line like this ------------- gap ------------- gap ------------------------
Also it was not working on a particular spot (attached image) but today I found it was due to the flip cover magnet. If I keep the magnet away it works perfectly.
