Sync Google contacts without root? - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to sync my Google contacts on my 2020 Fire 8 HD tablet? I have Gmail working which will fill in a contact. However, the Google contacts application won't sync.
From what I read, it seems doable if I was rooted.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the tip!
I downloaded and installed Google Contacts sync 9. I now see my Google contact in the Google and Amazon contact apps.

Google Contacts Auto Population Not Working

On Gmail & Google Voice, I can't get the "to" field to bring up contact suggestions when typing in a name. Google Voice matches contact names with the phone numbers...so it appears it has a contacts list...it just isn't using it for composing messages.
to get around the contact loading issue i set up the native email app with my gmail info and it ported over my contacts. So now when i use the gmail app it populates the "to" box
Interestingly enough, the contacts app on the kindle still uses the same storage as the standard google contacts app, so if you're rooted and copy googlecontactssyncadapter.apk over from another device, you'll actually see contacts show up in the sync settings, and then be able to pull down all of your google contacts and keep them in sync with the kindle.
EDIT: worth noting - if you've already setup the native email app and imported your google contacts that way, you'll want to clear the contacts storage before doing this, or it will sync as though all the contacts currently in the kindle are new contacts, and youll end up with doubles of everything in your google account.
Outstanding! That did the trick.

got the sync to work via googlecontactssyncadapter, but it looks like it's syncing all contacts rather than just "My Contacts". any way to sync just certain groups or does that require replacing the amazon contacts app with googles.
I noticed that as well, haven't found a fix as of yet - ill let ya know if I come up with anything.
abremel what sync settings are you referring too. Would you please be more specific.
Thank you.

Super that did the trick and it works perfectly. Thank you!
Thanks, abremel! Nice to have my Google contacts pictures showing up in Google Voice!
Not sure if this was necessary, but I'll add it so that someone else with a similar question knows what worked for me.
After rooting, I copied the googlecontactssyncadapter.apk file I got from my EVO 4G (via Dropbox) to the System/apps folder on my KF. Didn't "install" the .apk file. And, I changed the permissions to RW/R/R, as seems to be necessary in other Google apps installs on our KFs.
Will keep checking thread to see if you figure out how to only sync "My Contacts."

calendar works
what are we doing wrong
also kindle contacts not syncing
please help
I'm having a related hallenge.
Am rooted (JCase method) with GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk , GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk in system/app with matching permissions along with the framework file and market, even have the maps files so Market, Calendar, Books, Reader and even Currents and other location based apps work but I can't get contacts to show up in Sync settings. All I can manage is to import contacts by (re-)setting up my gmail account in the native email app, and it doesn't bring in the physical (I.e.home,office,etc) addresses.

What I did for the doubles: My contacts on the KF had all ready imported when I setup the mail app with my gmail account. When I moved the sync adapter and set the permissions I indeed got the duplicate contacts in both the KF and my GC. Through the web, you can access your GC and do a restore to an hour ago. This got rid of all the duplicates in Google Contacts, then when the KF synched.....Bob's your uncle the duplicates got removed from the Fire.

Go into settings>accounts and click on google after that click on your gmail account email address.
After that you will see many sync options including "sync contacts" check mark it and it will sync.
Good luck!

Make sure it has this GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk in system/app/ folder.
This app syncs phone contacts with Google.

Having trouble syncing contacts

I have Xiaomi Redminote 4G. I had it rooted. Recently I unrooted it and experienced something unfortunate with my contacts. All my contacts that were synced with my google account and microsoft outlook (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.outlook&hl=en) were gone from my phone. Moreover whenever I tried to add a google account I got the following error.
There was a problem communicating with google servers
I installed the modded play store from this page
http://en.miui.com/thread-5486-1-1.html
in order to solve google servers problem but that didn't help either
I am also unable to add an Outlook account in order to sync my contacts. I tried reinstalling this app but my problem didn't get solved.
sync
find contact sync adapter.apk from Google and see if it helps.

Check if the Google account name is correct, I mean [email protected]
Thanks for the reply,
yes checked and all ok.
Think it is something to do with google contact sync not installing correctly.
There is no contact sync option in sync settings.
Thanks
A factory reset and reinstall seems to have fixed it.
Now to de bloat Miui, cannot wait for Pixel Experience
Thanks

HD 10 Built-in Calendar app not seeing google account

Hi
I've recently bought a Fire HD 10 (9th generation) so a newbie with these devices. I have set up my Gmail account in the built-in Email app. Email and Contacts both sync and work fine. But the built-in Calendar app doesn't even recognise that there is a Google account, let alone sync it. All I get is the Amazon Cloud account calendar. Endless Googling suggests the Calendar app should sync automatically. So help please!
I've tried a factory reset several times but the issue persists. However, I had also installed Google Play and associated services, then uninstalled them as I prefer to sideload from APKMirror.
1. Is this a known issue with the HD 10?
2. Should I reinstall the Calendar app - if so how?
3. By installing/uninstalling Google Play & services did I inadvertently overwrite then uninstall an Amazon version of a calendar component? If so, how might I restore the full functionality of the Calendar app (factory reset didn't work)?
4. Is there some setting in Google Calendar I need to check/change to allow it to sync?
Thanks in advance.
Julian
