I have a A-Sure Win CE6.0 car gps radio. It works well but I am looking for extra software features to add to the head unit. Especially car monitoring for OBD2. I have been told you can get it and have it installed rather then just run of an SD card. But I have looked all over internet and cant find anything.
Hi Jason
The WinCE online presence is not very good, in my poor experience with WinCE car radio.
The first thing you need to know is:
1) How to run WinCE software from the SD card in you radio. It changes from one manufacturer to other, but it is usually done by replacing the Map navigation software on your SD.
2) Try to document the internal hardware of you WinCE radio. I used a software called RESINFO.
Free WR-Tools ResInfo Software Download
WR-Tools ResInfo - WR-Tools ResInfo shows the most important system resources of a Windows CE device, in a tab control dialog box as well as in the notification area of the menu bar. The Tool informs about battery life, program and storage memory, largest files and databases, processor...
www.mobyware.org
3) I haven't used any OBD2 app on WinCE. But I found this one:
- http://hobdrive.com/ (Windows Mobile is WinCE)
Please let me know if you find any more OBD2 WinCE applications.

After having many troubles and failing to get tomtom 5 running on my mini s.
Just like to know if tomtom navigator 3 is compattable with mini s?
I can get original software on cd with major roads of europe for £30.
Not sure if it works. if it does you will have to copy the cabs over manually as the installer will almost certainly not work.
On a side not, personal experience with TTN3 & BT GPS was very bad, so bad infact that i ditched my TTN3 and used an old copy of 2 until i replaced my GPS with a wired (was CF in an iPaq).
Maybe it was a fault with the iPaq BT stack but i used to get random disconnects while driving and it basically made TTN3 useless. Just a point as you cant use a wired GPS with the Wizard...
Also, if you need help with TTN5 read the current posts, and if you still have problems make a new post saying what you have done, and what you are having problems/errors with.
For me it was easy to make TT5 running on my Wizard. I wrote this about installation (sorry, it's in french and I will soon add some printscreen)

I used this guide and got Tomtom 5 working a treat hope this helps
Surefire method of installing TomTom Navigator on your K-JAM
This post is in no offense to anyone who has previously posted a quick tutorial or a quick-and-dirty method of installing TomTom Navigator 5.10 on the K-JAM (or Windows Mobile 5.0 for that matter), but there has been a lot of inconsistencies with where files are to be placed, how things should be installed and in what order, and if some steps need to be performed or not. In addition, the fact that it's likely coming from people who don't have English as a first language, it makes it very hard to follow otherwise simple directions on how to get this program properly installed and running on one's K-JAM.
Thus, I have detailed a step-by-step procedure based on completely on firsthand experience, and repeated for verification. It requires your K-JAM (obviously), your ActiveSync'ed desktop, your Bluetooth GPS device, and the original CAB/voice/map files. What is important in my method is that I did NOT have to perform any install of 5.00, followed by 5.10, and I did not have to perform any registry changes to enable the GPS applet in Windows Mobile 5.0, either.
Please keep in mind that TomTom Navigator 5.10 is not officially compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0, so you are not likely to get any support on the product on this OS.
Download the latest version of the TomTom Navigator application from their website.
Install the map files onto your mini-SD card. It should be placed right at the root, and will have a path on your K-JAM, such as:
\Storage Card\New-England_and_Mid-Atlantic-Map
Power on your Bluetooth GPS, and prepare it for pairing, if necessary.
Go to your Comm Manager and enable the Bluetooth radio on K-JAM and pair your Bluetooth GPS to it.
Once properly paired, put a check next to Serial Port as the device's available service.
Minimize the on-screen keyboard, if necessary, and click on the next tab labeled COM Ports.
Click New Outgoing Port and select COM6, while leaving Secured Connection still checked. Your device should now be listed with (COM6) next to it.
Install all the CAB files in the following order:
GPS.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Bluetooth COM port
PIMAddIn.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Outlook contacts
WZD.CAB - the Today plug-in (completely optional)
TTN.CAB - the actual application and data files
If you are getting any issues with installing any of the CAB files, try soft-resetting and launch the same CAB file again.
On your desktop, launch Notepad.
Type & \Storage Card\New-England_and_Mid-Atlantic-Map\ or whatever the name of your main map folder is on your mini-SD card. Do not forget to add the final backslash and a have a space between the ampersand and the first backslash.
Save the file as CurrentMap.dat. Make sure it doesn't end up as CurrentMap.dat.txt!
Create a folder on your K-JAM called \My Documents\TomTom.
Copy your newly created CurrentMap.dat file from your desktop into \My Documents\TomTom on your K-JAM.
Create a folder on your K-JAM called \TomTom\TomTom. Yes, strangely enough, that is a TomTom folder under the TomTom folder on the root of the device.
Copy your (celebrity or standard) voice files into the \TomTom\TomTom folder.
Soft-reset your K-JAM to allow the Today plug-in to show up and the TomTom Navigator icon to appear in the Start Menu. If the Today plug-in doesn't show up, it's likely that it's simply disabled in the Today plug-ins list, and you can enable it later.
Launch TomTom Navigator.
Set up your preferences (left/right-hand, time format, voice, etc.)
Your map should now be automatically selected and loaded, based on steps 9-13.
Activate your map through the normal registration methods.
Configure your Bluetooth device as Other Bluetooth GPS and select COM6: as your port.
Confirm that your Bluetooth device is working by clicking on the GPS signal strength indicator on the bottom-right of the screen, then the same indicator on the right on the following screen.
That's it! Enjoy your TomTom Navigator on your K-JAM!

I hope this step-tested, detailed tutorial will be the end-all solution for everyone having issues in getting TomTom up and running on their K-JAMs, as I've been sharing the pain with everyone trying to get some sort of navigation software working on Windows Mobile 5.0. Now, you can take a breather and go travel somewhere with your new toy and not have to worry about surfing to MapQuest.com on an EDGE connection in the middle of nowhere.
By the way, my Bluetooth GPS device is the GlobalSat BT-338 GPS, a SiRF III device that can be picked up real cheap from MadMonkeyBoy. There is a firmware update to 3.1.1 available here.
NOTE: If you've tried the other methods posted elsewhere that instruct you to enable the GPS applet by modifying the registry and so forth, you can either hard reset your device and follow my step-by-step method above, or reverse their work by performing the following steps:
Go to the GPS applet under Settings.
Change both the GPS communication and hardware COM ports setting back to None.
Go to the last tab and uncheck "Manage GPS Automatically."
Lastly, disable the applet entirely by adding the Redirect null string value back to that GPS Settings key in the registry. (See those previous instructions to find the exact location in the registry and simply put back the entry you deleted or changed.)
Soft-reset your K-JAM for changes to take effect.
Remember, TomTom Navigator 5.10 is NOT designed for Windows Mobile 5.0 natively, so you can't expect the OS to manage something that older navigation software is not expecting the OS to.
Finally, if for whatever reason you're not able to communicate with your Bluetooth GPS properly because you're working from a failed install from previous instructions, try to delete the Outgoing COM Port entry, followed by the entire partnership between your K-JAM and the GPS device, then start again.
UPDATE: I have removed the link to the TomTom Navigator installer CAB files. You can visit www.tomtom.com and download it from there. Also, you can install the voices to the \Voices or \Storage Card\Voices folder.
Can an admin quote/copy the above post and sticky it for a couple of months - save a new "tomtom 5 help" post every few days.
Please?
But does Tomtom Navigator 3 work on Wizard? If so, how does one install it?
just thought i'd share this with you.. been using it and it's really good.
On WinCE platform, there is no taskbar like WM5/6 platform, that's why most of WinCE full
screen applications always partial behind on WM5/6 taskbar at upper of screen, even shift
down one line on WM5/6 platform. Also, even WinCE application had controlled backlight
strength in program, but it won't work on WM5/6 platform. That's a story to be born this
utility.
This NavLoader utility provides environment pre-setup before loading Navigator application,
individual configuration file for your perference to load specific Navigator application.
The features also include WinCE full screen emulation and turn on bluetooth..etc by variety
parameters in configuration file.
From now on, you can set up difference preference for your Navigator application, such Garmin
run on portrait mode and power off PPC when exit Garmin, TomTom run on landscape mode and redirect
all audio to bluetooth earphone, you don't need to setup environment manually before you launch
application.
This utility has been tested on WM5 platform with TomTom 6(PDA), Garmin(PDA), MioMap(PDA),
Finean V2.0(PND), PPG VR-ONE(WinCE PND), If you are interested this utility, you may report your
test result of which applications or bugs for next version information collection.

Hey guys, i dont know if its the right place to ask this question. If not, excuse me, i am new here.
Anyways. I have TELEFUNKEN ODYSSEY series GPS, running Windows CE Core. Its totally crappy, but hey, i got it for free. Anyways. The GPS program which came with it, is the same quality as the product it self, as you can imagine. What i want to do, is remove it, and replace with with IGO. The program it self sits on SD card, so there is no problem removing it. The problem is this - as far as i've see, the NAVIGATION button which launches the GPS program, is a shortcut, and i have no idea how to point it to the IGO i copied to the SD Card. No matter what i do, i still tried to launch the software that came with the device.
Any idea on how can i change that? How can i make the button lead to the program of my choosing.
The Device Model is TLF-6600GPS if its any help
Thanks ahead.
This may seem like a strange request but I have this wireless TV, it just so happens that it is attached to a refridgerator. Its made by Samsung and the TV is called an "I.C.E. Pad" and it runs its own software called Popcon. Being the curious engineer that I am, I found a USB connector on it and decided to plug it in. After connecting I noticed that it's just Windows CE that runs this popcon software at startup. Is there a way that I can interrupt the boot process in one of the .hv files to have this thing come up into explorer instead of the popcon software? In the windows folder there is a user.hv, default.hv and boot.hv files, I was told that these are the registry files and the boot.hv is where they startup is. The reason why I want to do this is because the TV runs on 802.11b wireless and would be nice if I can use this as a tablet when not using the TV and I could just run the popcon software when needed. I am in no way experienced with windows mobile or CE and would like to see if someone could help me. I've been able to dump just about everything of the two partitions onto my computer to play with them, just a few DLL's that won't copy due to sharing violations. Thanks for any help.
you should check out some GPS forums, they have more experience with Windows CE devices since a lot of GPS PNA devices are build on Win CE. There you will be able to find some tools to interrupt the boot process I suppose. A lot of PNA devices can boot custom software by using special files and folders on the storage card, do you have a storage card?
good luck...
VOODOOS!L
There is a connector next to the USB connector but have no idea what is for but a storage card woudn't fit, no matter what kind.
I'll try the GPS forums, thanks.
I ran into similar issues with a post I made about my own WinCE device. The thing about this forum is, there are loads of people who can answer questions about Windows Mobile, which is based on WinCE, but actually a seperate OS, since they share a kernel but much else is different.
Good luck finding some help with your WinCE device, but it seems most people here are only in their comfort area when talking about the Windows Mobile OS, which is only *based on* WinCE and is otherwise a completely different OS.
I bought a Chinese DVD GPS head unit for my car running Windows CE 6.0. The unit has every feature under the sun and works remarkably well, much better than I had thought it would.
There are 2 main things which annoys me. The first is the media player playing music (SD or USB). There is no random/shuffle function, and when you have thousands of songs and it takes 2 - 3 seconds to skip to the next one, it gets annoying really quick! The second is also related to the media player. It plays a very limited number of video formats (avi, 3gp).
I figure the easiest way is to replace the media player with a better one (which I'm sure exists for CE 6).
So my question is can this be done? If so where do I start? How can I access CE operating system/firmware on the unit? It has a USB port, but that acts as a host so you can plug flash drives and dongles into it.
Has anyone played with these types of devices?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

AFAIK there is no third party player especially written for CE 6.0 around. All players written for CE are years old, i.e. outdated. I'm pretty sure your AIO doesn't use a rudimentary CE-player.

I'm a bit confused. The unit runs CE 6.0 for the GPS and IE. I've updated the gps software on it to run a different one. If my unit doesn't use a CE player, what is it using?

If really added by OEM to CE 6.0, the Windows Media Player control is built on top of Microsoft DirectShow. Consequently, the DirectShow codecs included in the OS design determine the exact list of media formats that the Windows Media Player control can play. OK. So it looks like I can't get it to play other codecs easily, that's fine. How about the other issue? Is there a way to replace the media player that the unit is using to another one which has a random/shuffle function? (Assuming I can find a media player with a random function)
Your device has an SD-card slot, correct? If so and if OEM implemented an SD-Autorun feature - means at boottime a specific named file located on SD-card will be processed, then you can "abuse" this SD-Autorun feature to modify the WinCE portion of your unit according to your needs. Most people do so using MortScript herefore
Resume: You have to find out by yourself whether an SD-Autorun feature is implemented, and if then how, this because this differs from OEM to OEM ...

Yes my unit has 2 micro SD card slots. 1 is used for music, 1 is used for the GPS navigation. Interestingly there seems to be 2 different subsystems running on the unit. The GPS part acutally has a media player and IE which seems to only see 1 SD, and the music system which only sees the other SD card.
What is the easiest way to check if either has an autorun feature?

Then you alternatively might try: Put any WinCE-executable (currently recommended TotalCommander for CE6.0 - google for it) you want to run onto this SD-card and make unit's GPSPath and/or NaviPath point to it.

Update: It's a long story, but I'll give the short version.
I found out MioPocket which was supposed to turn my WCE GPS device into a fully functional unit ... Well it broke my WCE. Luckily my unit seems to have 2 units in it. 1 is the radio/dvd/bt/sd/usb etc, and the other is a WCE unit for the GPS. The actual radio still worked fine, but the WCE wouldn't load.
After a few days talking with the supplier in China, he sent me the recovery files. I put the recover file into the SD card and it flashed the WCE and it's back to normal.
So I'm not going to touch it anymore. Because even if I was able to get a CE media player working, the system doesn't actually use CE to play music. So I'll just have to live with my built in media player without random/shuffle function.

Do you still have the recovery files? Is there any chance you could upload these for us somewhere. It seems to me that this is the way for you to add/alter the software on the system?

How do I run or reflash the unit? Do I just put this on the micro sd and it will auto run when I turn on the head unit?
Actually the problem is more on the GPS part of my head unit. I also have 2 micro sd card slots (1 for music and the other for gps). I was able to use the navi before but it suddenly stopped working (I am using Papago X8). Now I don't know if I should reflash Win CE or get another compatible gps software.
Thanks!

Try this method:
http://www.austech.info/gps/84958-gps-ce-6-0-rescue-disk.html
Accessing the Windows O/S should be pretty straight forward on most of these units. You should be able to find in the unit settings a setting that allows you to point to the GPS software location. Instead of the gps software, download Total commander (google it) for windows CE, put it on your sd card, and then point the gps software link to total commander. Then press the gps button and total commander will pop up. This will give you access to the Win CE file system.

I realize this is an extremely old post but I'm hoping I can still get help. I have tried to download Total Commander but they only offer it as a windows xp install file that uses active sync to load it into the unit or as cab files. Neither of which I can put on an sd card and run from my windows ce 6 unit. Is there a way to just get the install files on an sd card from the computer?
Thanks
