I've been given a set of three SM-T585's. One is working fine and installing the latest update, one is completely dead and not charging.
The third is an interesting one. It's bootlooping at installing system update. No matter how long I hold power + volume down + home it doesn't go into download mode.
It goes to installing system update then No support Single SKU and failed to mount /efs etc. Oh and it doesn't hold a charge. It powers on as soon as I connect a powerlead to it. If I hold the power button down the battery icon doesn't come up.
I'd like to try to revive at least one of these then give it to the local kids charity.

Give the first one to the kids charity.
If the others do not even charge properly, chances are very low to get them revived. Sorry.
Cheers for the reply.
As it happens I managed to revive all of them. Turns out it was the crappy USB power supply I had with me at the time. I put them on a higher amp psu and they sprang to life.
They all went onto ebay and the profits went to a local food bank. So the story is make sure you use a decent power supply
I just had this happen to me. I upgraded TWRP and after the reboot, I was in a constant bootloop. Because this device was rooted and had a custom recovery, vol up + power didn't work. What you need to do is to hold vol up + down and plug in the USB-C cable into the tablet. This has to be timed correctly. This will put the tablet into download mode. This does work but be patient.

It seems my Nexus 7 seems to be hosed.
It was running the latest android os as pushed out by google (maybe 4.2.1?) Not sure what I did, but I am in the APX mode and I cannot exit it. The screen is completely dark, and I am not sure it is working when I press the buttons.
I have held:
Power button for 60+ seconds
Power + volume up
Power + volume down
Power + volume up + volume down
If the device is plugged into my laptop, I get a beep after holding any aforementioned combination indicating that the system detects the device but it shows up in the device manager as APX with a question mark.
I have opened the back, and disconnected and reconnected the battery.
Prior to noticing it was not working, I set a torrent download using µtorrent. My initial guess was that the battery discharged, but I have been charging it now for a few hours without any resolution.
Please help! I am past the returns for Walmart, and I do not want to ship it to ASUS to have it repaired.
Bump.
This is frustrating. I have never owned an android tablet before, and I had no intentions of rooting it. Now I have no idea if I can even recover it. Other threads are saying I am hosed because nvflash does not work on the nexus 7.
Any ideas besides throwing it in the garbage?
Try letting the battery die.

I had rooted my dad's lg g2( D802) and installed twrp using an app named autorec as it was recommended by many people in the internet and had very high ratings and downloads in the play store. Everything was fine for a few weeks till I noticed that the app had an update. So I flashed twrp again from the app hoping it was a newer version and it said it completed the operation successfully. Then I just used the phone for sometime and after that I switched off the phone to enter the recovery. After it switched off, I pressed the button combination for entering the recovery but nothing came up. Then I attempted to just boot the phone and kept pressing the power button but nothing came up. I even kept pressing the button for upto a minute to hard reboot it in case it was just a case of hanging but nothing came up.After that, I plugged it in for charging and attempted to boot again. After I kept pressing the power button for about 30 seconds while charging, the led blinked red 8 times, paused and repeated itself as long as I kept holding the power button.
The problem is that it even the screen doesn't turn on.
I searched for this issue and saw that many others were facing this issue. I tried the following solutions given by them which did not work:
1) Holding the power button for a long time
2) Keeping it for charging until it's full but nothing comes up and the phone got heated up very much untill I stopped it a few hours later.
3) Removing the back cover and detaching the battery power cable from the phone after after waiting for sometime, reattaching it.
My dad showed it to the lg repair centre but they told him they need to replace the whole board which is very expensive, especially considering that it is a 2+ year old phone. My dad is very angry at me and probably won't let me touch his phones ever again if I don't fix this. Please help me.
Thanks in Advance
Edit: the charge was at 45% when I switched it off. Don't think it is because of low battery
With the phone pluggged into your computer, does the computer recognize the phone? And if yes, what does Device Manager report it as being?

more info... what variant? phone does not boot.. can you press vol up then plug phone .. does download mode works... stay calmed this can be fixed..:fingers-crossed:
I haven't tried plugging it to the computer. The way to enter download mode is holding the volume up button right? Thank you for the suggestion. I'm away for a few days but I'll tell my dad to do so. I'll post what happens then. Variant is D802
OK I told him to do that. When he pressed the volume up button and then plugged it to his computer, 13 new partitions showed up in windows, and it is telling him that he needs to format the positions to use it. But nothing is coming up on the phone
Do NOT let Windows format the partitions(!)
Use the SRKTool instead to unbrick from qhsusb_bulk mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/tools-srk-tool-useful-toos-lg-root-twrp-t3079076
Afterwards use LG Flash Tool 2014 to flash the KDZ for your variant:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
It's better to let the battery charge to full first. Shut down the phone by holding PWR button for 10 seconds, then plug charger. It should work even in bulk mode.
Did you try these simple things...
shutdown phone keeping powerbutton down.
Start pressing power button & vol down....when you see LG logo for couple seconds. Release fingers and press vol UP and vol DOWN, same time. No power button.

But the problem is, even the screen doesn't turn on while on download mode. I'll surely try out the unbrick tool but will it work since normally, the download mode screen comes up. That thing is 760mb. I think it'll take some time for it to finish. (Ultra slow internet connection )

The lg logo doesn't come up when I do that. If fact, even the screen does not turn on
Thank you guys! Srk tools worked! Again thank you very much
I have a at&t S4 that all of a sudden today stopped working. When I restart the phone by taking the battery out and putting back in, it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo and then a black screen. I tried going to recovery mode(volume up + home + power button), and it shows recovery booting in blue for a sec then goes black. I tried for download mode the warning comes up but after pressing volume up it goes black. I really don't know what to do at this point.
Tried using kies or smart switch to perform a firmware recovery?
Yes, the computer doesn't recognize that the phone is connected. It's as if when the phone goes to the black screen its actually powered off. The only time I get anything from the phone is when I pull the battery and reinsert it.

When the phone battery are too low, the phone could behave like that too.
Do you know that battery is fully charged or has more than 60%?
If not charge the phone first.
Plug the charger. If you did not see any sign showing that you phone is charging, press and hold the power button for 10 sec and release it. You should see the phone charging image.
Let me know whether your phone has enough battery power left but showing the above mentioned problems.

Yes, the battery is fully charged. I have another S4 Active that I've swapped the batteries with, along with a spare official Samsung battery and charger. It doesn't matter which battery I use, the phone acts the same with any of the 3.

If you have enough battery power left but the phone was behaved like that, you might need to flash the firmware.
Are you in lollipop or kitkat? For the time being, the only firmware available for kit-kat and lollipop is NB1 firmware cooked by muniz_ri . You can get it from here.
You mentioned that you can go to download mode but the phone shut off when you press volume up to go to the download mode after the warning.
Try the 10 sec method. Go to the download mode (power+home+volume-down) but keep holding the power button for 10 sec even though you see the warning message appear. Then you press volume up to go the download mode. Try this way and let me know.

It was on Kitkat. I can press the volume up and get it to show the download android screen but it immediately shuts off. Holding the power button for 10 secs. and then the volume up didn't do anything. The phone shuts off after 1-2 secs. of doing anything.

That is strange. The same thing happened to me. But I avoided the phone shut down by 10 sec methods.
Just hold the power+home+volume down for 10 sec, even though the warning sign show up, and then let it go all of them. Plug the phone to the computer and then press the volume-down to go into download mode. It works for me. Not on the first try though.
Try doing that with batter charger plug in too.

Thanks for your help. I figured out whats wrong, its got a faulty power button. I took the phone apart, put it back together, and was able to get it to boot completely. The slightest touch of the power button causes it to reboot though, so I'm going to need to replace it.

Glad you found the problem. I was trouble shooting for the software error.
Yes, power bottom could give you a problem too. I use screen off app so I do not have to use power button to turn off the screen.
Get my shiny new phone, start it once, turn it off because I forgot to swap sim cards, and then it's just stuck at a screen that has a circle with a small "S" shape in it which I took to be the "charging" screen. Well ****. I force power-off the device and power it on again. "Installing updates" followed by "failed to mount /system" Huh. Cue an hour of frustration and not being able to find firmware and here we are. Advice? Please? Recovery menu does nothing to help and my next plan is to just flash stock firmware but apparently that doesn't exist (Sprint standard US fyi).
Update: I have no words. "Run graphic test" from the recovery options seems to have fixed the bootloop.
Update 2: the "fix" was only temporary. Nice. Back to the drawing board.
The easiest way is to return it to Samsung or your carrier.
Wow. That really sucks. :/

This thread is very old. But usually this issue stems from needing a factory reset. His inability to flash firmware is cause he was in recovery not download mode.
yesterday i instaleed latest version of pixel experience and magisk and connected my phone to the charger and slept over night in moring i saw that my phone was off i thought may be the charger was loose i checked and found out that my phonwe is not working no charge no led no twrp no fastboot no response while conneting it to the computer is there any way i can switch on the phone at least i triedto charge the phone but no good no response charged almost 8 hour no effect
Maybe it is in stuck in SOD (Sleep of Death)... Try holding down the power button for 30+ seconds, if that fails it is likely toast because if you can't get it to turn on there isn't much you can do.
EDIT: One other possibility, connect the USB port to a computer but before you connect it the phone, press and hold VOL DOWN and then connect the cable while you continue to hold that button, it may bring you into the fastboot menu after 5-10 seconds.
What was the version you installed?
