Day 1 - Hard reset overnight - nil programs loaded - only had d/l & sync contacts and calendar - in am nil data - still 40% charge - LED solid red
Day 6 yesterday - set alarm for 6 am - pluged in via AC adaptor - worked OK -
Day 7 yesterday - set alarm for 6 am - no go - unit appears dead - led solid orange - remove AC - led solid orange - press all buttons and screen - nil happens - grab in frustration (probably preesing many buttons at once) - screen comes alive - led solid red - have shower & dress for 15 mins) - led solid red - play with buttons unit suddenly works OK - no data lost - did NOT soft reset
Aaaaagggrh - alarms not going off was the major problem I had with the xda1
No blue tooth - standard rom's etc 1.66/1.08 - no mod's have d/l a few games and themes - but pretty much standard.
Any advice ?????

how about the best solution which can help u solve all at 1 time?
THROW IT AWAY.....
dun make it sounds like a big fuss about the probs u encounter...
ROM 1.72 could be the solution
Far less problems with this ROM, especially better powermanagement.
Also be careful with all kinds of today plugin programs: they seem to use more power then you would like them to do. (Think about resident programs like calendar reminders and alarms)
After removing Wisbar, a lot of my problems have disappeared.
I have the following 2 problems and wonder if anyone else have BOTH problems on the SAME device ?
screen misalignment
freezing while charging.
Freezing every 3 screenclicks in TomTom 5 (and 6)
I have those (TT6) on the Vario 2 +
1) Landscape/portrait confusion sometimes - maybe a bad keyboard slider contact
2) ActiveSync doesn't always realise the device is connected
3) ...
Owned it for 2 weeks so far & still think it's pretty good.
Backlight settings (under battery power), when changed from default setting of 10secs, changes right back to 10secs.
Slow to pick up and hang up (up to 2secs each)
Changing screen orientation while entering info (calendar or contact) loses its focus so you have to click the entry again to regain focus.
Update Library... doesn't work for storage cards. Have to remove the MSMETADATA folder on the card to get it to update.
Misses key presses at random
Drops signal at random, and therefore calls.
The list is endless.

do i take it you would stay with the universal?
Matt
Actually no, I would stick with the Wizard any day (with the latest rom and overclocking).
I'd love this Hermes to work, but as long as it has all these damn problems it's more hassle than it's worth.
The term "bleeding edge" has never been more appropriate for me, it's still a beta product.
Ferg.
every one should stick with their wizard!. i had tytn for 3 days and my head was blowing! to many problems.
but don't forget that there isn't decent pda/phone around.

This one I've isolated to phones which have been restored from a backup made with SPB's Backup.
I have a question. I've only had a WM5 device for about 9 months now. I now have Cingular 8525 and for the past 5 days I have left it on overnight only to find it frozen, won't wake up in the morning and the battery drained.
I did the Activesync hack, scanned the notifications queue and did not see any notifications for midnight on the dates the device would not wake up.
Its frustrating.
I was wondering if WM5 did some form of house cleaning nightly. It seems that this house cleaning wakes up the device and somewhere it freezes on and finally the battery gives out. I don't have any backup software going on.. Nothing. I just find the device won't wake up, won't even soft reset. Plug it in for a minute, then it soft resets with a dead battery.
I am going to look at the notifications queue tonight and delete any notifications I see that are for 0:00 and tomorrow and see what happens.
I am hard resetting it Monday and re-installing if I can't figure it out. It has been really annoying these last 5 mornings.
Sometime when I reboot I see a NO GSM message. Then get no radio, then about 10 minutes later I get service. But the password and the userid on the wap data connection has been erased and my bonded blue tooth headset password is forgotten, the device is there but it prompts me to bond with a passkey when I go to intiate the headset...
Thanks for your thoughts
This has, I believe, alot to do with your microSD card - see the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284636
Thanks I'll check it out. I do have a sd card in the device. It may be the cause.
Thanks.
I use SPB Backup, to initiate automated reboots. What it does is back up to ur microsd and then initiate a reboot. i do this every second night. which is cool, keeps the fone fast.
Nightly lockups were a pain in the neck for me - I have had 2 Orange M3100 and both suffered the same nightly lockup issues.
I found that 4 things have fixed the issues and i found that all 4 have to be done
1. Fake server trick
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638
But i found that not deleting the new server works fine
2. Untick Enable Advanced Network Functionality
Under Settings\Connections\USB to PC
3. Stopping Activesync running when not needed
In the notification queue there are 3 entries to start replog.exe (activesync)
you can safely delete the instruction to start after time change - This will stop Activesync from running.
NB the other 2 need to be there, do not delete any other notification of replog.exe
4. Never leave activesync running so always do a soft reset after syncing or at least before you charge the phone.
Not saying that these will work for everyone but they have worked for me on both phones.
try XBar. It incorporates cron, so you can schedule whatever program to run whenever you want it. Grap a copy of quickreset and run it. It will reset the Tytn at whatever time you set it for. I have mine resetting at 5 in the morning.
You may disable the standby mode when the unit on the external power supply. I have done, and I think it's not a big deal and it does not worth to struggle with locks on wakeups with external power!
I having a sort of similar 'morning trouble' with my TyTN, but limited to GSM connectivity. When I wake up, I am most of the cases disconnected from network with 'No service' message in the baloon. Searching for network is unsuccessful, nothing works until I soft reset the device.
Just a thought: You do have the "poweroff after x minutes" setting checked right?
I had what I thought was the same issue this morning, but it was caused by me unchecking the above setting (I do this during meetings when I'm using my BT keyboard) the previous day. This morning, while it was still dark out, I pressed the power button and nothing (the backlight was off and this actually put it into powersave mode). I pressed it again and still nothing (device came out of powersave mode with backlight still off). Because it was dark when I did this, I initially thought that I had the "won't return from powersave" problem.

I have a similar problem. Every monring when the device is still plugged on the wall charger, it hangs before I wake up. I would therefore miss a lot of calls or other notifications. I have done the defragmentation of the card, but it still doing the same thing every morning.
I have also tried all your steps above, ecept step 3, which I need your assistance as to how to delete the particular file you were referring to.
Many thanks in advance.

holy crap, i thought i was the only one that used xbar.. i have been using this program for 2 or 3 years, this is my one and only must have program!! FYI 3.2 beta was released
anyway.. on to this problem, i used to have this on my wizard, what i found was that plugging it and leaving it on would cause the lock up. Now when i plug it in i hit the power button and havent experienced it since on my wizard or on my 8525 yet. and i still get all of my push mails etc.. however i will say that if i get a call or text while im sleeping the device does wake up and the screen stays on..
another program you might want to try is SKSchema... they have several scripts that you can run, including a soft reset at a certain time. I also use the script which allows me to toggle between 3G/UMTS to save battery when I don't need 3G.
"Fake Server" did not work for me
Tried what is outlined - fake server, soft-re-boot, stopping activesync. Not sure how to delete the specific files in the notification queue.
Worked for one night! Next night back to the sleeping Tytn.
I am going to try spbTime to trigger an alarm at 12:01am and see if that helps.
TyTn does not "die" anymore!
The fake server is definitely part of the answer. As is stopping ActiveSynch. This needs to be combined with one other suggestion made on the forum of leaving the unit on when plugged in. This however has the potential drawback of "burning" the screen with the same image as when left powered on.
In addition to Activesynch, the problem is with the Notification queue (again as someone suggested on this forum). In the Suspend/Sleep mode under power, the unit cannot notify and goes into a perpetual loop.
Here is what I did that has now worked for 11 days. I installed spb PocketPlus and placed the "Screen Toggle" icon on the main screen. (According to spb, "Toggle" simply blanks the screen but does not put it to sleep/Suspend). So when I plug the unit in to charge it, I simply "toggle" the screen. The screen is blank (just like "Sleep"/"Suspend") but the unit is powered up. This has the added benefit of allowing you to listen to music with the screen blank.
I have now gotten to "toggling" even under battery power. Miraculously, my intermittent BT and Wi Fi issues have also disappeared. There may be cheaper solutions than buying Pocket Plus, but spb's Pocket Plus is convenient and has some other nice features.
Mortsaver might be a cheaper option?
Active Sync
I don't know if any of you have tried Active Sync "beta" 4.5". Its seems to have fixed many of my problems with connection and some of the issues described here.

This problem affects CRT and plasma displays (phosphor based), but not TFT.
Hello, I got my new device on the 3rd Jan so it's still relatively new and vanilla. I have had a look here through FAQs and searched the X1 forum to no avail. I hope these are not too difficult to answer, many thanks for any advice
1. Freezing:
When I make a call the touch screen no longer takes touch inputs, it does display the call time etc. I have to end the call with the soft button then the screen comes back to life
Also, when I run Windows Media Player and start playing a track the same behaviour occurs and I timed a 2 minute delay before I could use the screen to do anything.
I am not running anything in the background when this happens
All I have installed on top of the new phone (<1 week old) is a torchbutton tool and a battery monitor (although his happened way before the battery monitor was installed)
2. Auto disconnect from 3G etc:
When I set my phone to auto check email for me I didn't realise it would leave the 3G connection running. I can't find anywhere to set this and have it shut down the connection when done. I am not worried about cost (much) but I do want to preserve battery lif.
3. GPS way off:
everytime I try the Vodafone tracker or google maps it never pinpoints my location accurately. I don't want this directing me into a river or car crushers at a scrap yard...
Any ideas?
I don't know about the other two questions but as for number 1) I'd say it's a fault with your device as i haven't heard of the problem before and i have no such issue with my Xperia. Maybe someone can help you...
Question 2
It seems by default you have to disconnect in Comm Manager.
Actually it's great it does not disconnect after every action, it would be hell to check 3 or 4 email accounts and connect each time (I had it on my other smartphone...)
OK I can live with the disconnecting thing, I'll just have to keep an eye on it and the battery usage.
I found something interesting with the media player freezing issue though, if I use the button on the side to adjust volume the screen become available in the volume slider and then the problem goes away, rather random but again - livable if this fix works every time (which it doesn't) I have noticed it seems to be the same tracks that cause this - is it the file size?
Still stumped for the screen freeze during calls though - fix that and I will sing your praises for at least a week and a half
OK The device got replaced... then broke again - ran out of power then wouldn't take a charge
Came back from repair (they wouldn't replace after the 14 days grrr damn vodafone)
Now it has new software on it (spb mobile shell and some random games)
I setup the stuff I like such as the Soft Buttons set to Rotate screen and bring up the Today screen
Now when on the X panel or any of the panels and Opera the Today button refuses to work
It is fine in IE or File Explorer
I am so sick of this damn thing getting so close to being useable and then dropping out on me
Any ideas before I have to go back to the shop and they send it away AGAIN?
Hello:
Since day one of installing this radio - it's had an odd crash issue.
While I don't drive it every day - it seems to "crash" and go dark (back light seems to be on...) and loss of ALL HVAC controls. As this radio replaced any physical buttons.
Sony Sync 3 brain seems untouched and can be accessed via the secondary dash screen. Sync nav works too.
Seems to happen approx every 90 minutes - almost like clock work - I can tell as my commute is routine - and it crashes approx the same location in my commute.
Sony Sync 3 seems untouched - which makes sense - but the screen is unresponsive - but backlight can be seen bleeding through.
RESET pin hole has NEVER responded - 20 seconds, 5 seconds, 40 seconds - it does nothing.
The only way to get the screen to recover - is to power off the vehicle - exit (to make sure power is off) and let it sit 15min.
90min later - it does it again.
FACTORY reset has never worked - it just reboots. a Few times it rebooted and never came back on - basically a crash like about - had to follow same routine to get it back.
Many different MCU updates tried.
Mainly use CarPlay - but switch to the Sync 3 screen at times to run some settings.
ALL HVAC settings are unavailable - seat warmers, coolers, everything. As this unit replaces physical buttons of the Stock SONY Sync 3
Vehicle is a hybrid - but each time this happened - vehicle was under highway load - using engine power - not EV.
User settings do not indicate any "sleep mode" options - screen keep alive - not lock are set correctly. Phoenix verified this.
Thoughts?
UPDATE 03/03/2021 - Chris had me Format the unit - Android 9 - reconfigure everything again - basically Factory fresh. The problem repeated itself again, in the same time and manner. Stumped.
Exchange (and security deposit for this) has been requested - but I'm not convinced that will work.
is there a way to view event logs? sys logs?
I have 2 other Android head units (non Phoenix) - and never had soooo many issues.
Thoughts? Most recent MCU version info attached - this was updated 24 hours ago - nothing changed.
