I am chatting with T-Mobile customer service now, we'll see what they say but as of now if I go online a T-Mo page pops up and this is what I get:
"To connect to the web with the device you are using, you will need a webConnect data plan"
Did anyone have anything like this happen to them?
same problem here. i called they had no idea plan looked fine and told me i would need to call htc. weird thing is i have a nokia n900 that is fine i swapped the sims and same message on the nexus but the n900 still works.
Same here, I hope they fix it soon. Worked fine last night.
Did it just start for you? I didn't notice until early this morning. This might be happening all over. The t_mobile said my network needed to be updated. Had me remove the battery and still nothing. She then said it's outta her hands and gave me a Google number.
I am not calling yet. Still waiting to see what happens. Thing is, I can go to google and search -- results come up. So the web is working, its just like t-Mo restricts it when trying to go any further.
The lady said they might have me swap out the phone. But my phone is perfect - no dust, or anything like that, so I will do what it takes to not do that.
I am guessing this rep doesn't know what's going on. At least I hope.
EDIT: I am from the Philadelphia area BTW.
Double Failure in West Texas, best I can say it it was around 2:30am Mountain. TWO Nexus (Nexi?) crapped at the same time, wifi connection still worked.. just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they tried to pass me off to Google and I dug in heels and got a supervisor... and he said they had a LOT of calls coming in for the same thing. Got them to file a trouble ticket. Gotta be something in their network, was SHOWING a solid 4 bars of 3G AND/OR EDGE (I swapped them by hand) and nutting, nada.. "you need a webconnect data plan"... and they checked our account and it was all set up right.
Sounds like someone farkled something up real good.
Wow so it doesn't seem to be just in my area. I too always get 3-4 bars of 3G. I wonder if this is just a problem for N1's?

I moved the sim card over to one of my old G1's (thank goodness still had battery in it) and things worked just fine.. so yeah, someone ginked the T-Mobile network to.. not recognize the N1 for a data plan? Since it's 'not a T-Mobile device'??? Ohhhhh this is gonna get ugly..
This just popped up on the T-Mobile forums...
"Nexus Webconnectivity Issues: 1/29/10 (starting around 3:30am cst)
There is apparently an issue going on with web connections that started around 3:30am cst today. A phone call to T-Mobile tech support got routed to HTC tech support, and they are well aware of the issue. They say they have been flooded with calls regarding the issue. As of 6:30am, they have no idea what is causing the problem but are looking to the issue. They hope to get the issue resolved as soon as they can identify the problem. If anyone representing T-Mobile can get us more information, it sure would be appreciated. Tech support was rather vague."
Just out of curiosity, is anyones nexus 1 receiving data on T-Mobile right now?
Only via WiFi
webConnect data plan
Same thing just happened to me at about 7:45 am. It was working fine earlier this morning, then suddenly I get the webConnect data plan message and it won't connect over 3G or Edge. I live in Indianapolis, IN.
Wow why now, when I'm ordering mine today. =/
Something tells me that its a scheme of them trying to lock everyone into that awful 500a month 80 dollar plan...
Same Issue in NYC as well!
I have called T-Mobile and HTC. This is without a doubt a TMO problem and the reps have no clue! All they do is switch you over to HTC Tech support, lol! The endless loop until someone figures out whats wrong.
Out of curiosity, are those that are having problems currently enrolled with the G1 data plan? I am still using my older G1 data plan for 24.99 per month and was told I did not have to change my plan.
Also, its not totally out. My VOIP software is working and connecting fine. Seems to be only web browser.

So it twitter connectivity via API
I'm thinking Old Data Plans are the problem!
I am thinking the only N-1s with a problem are G-1 converts that have older "cheaper" data plans. TMO can't force you out of that plan but maybe they tried switching something and forgot to include that! Maybe a stupid idea but it is a feasible one. The newer "android" plans are alot more money!
I'm on the android plan and not working
Maps and G mail also broke.
Having had this X10 for 4 weeks now, I have to say it's been uphill. Coming off the TREO line (who had more than it's fair share of issues) Then to WIN6. I was pretty happy to get all the feature rich options on this Sony.
Problem I'm having here is connections.
In the 4 weeks, I've had 3 occurrences (lasting days at a time) where the network will not deliver calls to the phone. Right to voice mail. I've swapped the SIM into my old BlackJack II and still no calls incoming OR out going. I get "NETWORK BUSY". With my girlfriend having bought the same phone a week later than I did, she is having the same issues at the same times.
Albeit mine is flashed with generic NA, rooted etc.. I don't see this as being a contributor to this issue. So my question to Southwestern Ontario X10 users is.. Are you getting the same type of issues?
-Calls not going out or coming in.
-Data will not go out or come in via 3G or WiFi
-Dropped calls
-Calls straight through to voice mail
Rogers TECH level 2 says nothing (calls maybe monitored for training purposes) and for firing their rear ends should they cast shadow on Rogers holy cow 3G mess. A girl in iPhone support said 3G issues since beginning of Sept. My guy didn't have the minerals to admit it.
Wait, are you having issues with Wi-Fi too? Because that shouldn't have anything to do with Rogers.
I live in SW Ontario (Windsor) and neither I nor anyone I know has been having issues with reception.
Did this just start happening recently? I don't know how to fix it, but you could definately get some free stuff added to your plan if you argue with Rogers about how you don't get any reception
I live in London ON, with no problems at all with connection our reception I have 4 bars as I type but yah if your having problems with WiFi then defiantly something more then just connectivity issues more like a hardware issue.

I live in Hamilton, and know for a fact that they've been having issues around here, because I've seen the techs working on the towers! That being said, I've noticed a lack of getting a 3G signal in those areas, not a lack of data coming through.
As previous posters said, if WiFi isn't working either, it's gotta be a device problem.
I'm in the Caledon area and the calling portion of the phone has been solid. I've had a problem the last few days but I've confirmed with Rogers that the local tower is messed.
Did you get a new SIM card when you got the X10? I've heard folks are having problems with older Sim cards.
No problems with signal here in Ottawa. Phone calls always seem to get through, and sound fine. Think I've had one dropped call since getting the phone, and that was at my work where the building tends to cause general reception issues on most phones.
Definitely try a new SIM if you haven't already. My X10 wouldn't even boot with the SIM from my old phone.
Brantford here, no connection problems whatsoever.
Thornhill, Ontario here. I'm on Fido, but they use the same network as Rogers anyway. No connection issues here. In fact, much better reception on my X10 than previous phones (iPhone 3g, Motorola Milestone).
Kingston, ON here and no problems as well. Though I did have issues when I got the phone and I used my old sim card. Tech said to get new sim card so I did and no issues since then! Ive had the device 7 weeks now.

I live in London and since early September a lot of us have been experiencing network problems on/near UWO campus. Very delayed sms messages, inability to place phone calls, spotty (at best) 3G coverage and consequently very slow data speeds. Many of us have contacted Rogers and complained about it, supposedly it's due to a "poor coverage area" totally isolated around the university, but most likely their network is just overwhelmed now with number of students back in town, hopefully they address and fix these issues soon.

No problems here in Toronto (Downtown)
Don't know if that is South Western enough
Toronto no probz..
I live in woodstock and have had no issues at all. Sorry man

Newmarket 4 solid bars no issues at all.
My old sim card did not like the xperia, new one has been just fine.
No probs here in East York (Toronto).
Mississauga here, no problems at all!
When I talked to tech support yesterday I was told Rogers was aware of and resolving the network problems in south western Ontario, mainly the London area I guess (which where I am) has been experiencing a lot of issues the past couple weeks. Has nothing to do with reception bars or anything on the X10, any device on Rogers has been experiencing the same thing. Hopefully Rogers sorts it all out soon
Toronto, on. i had alot of issues with the phone such as receiving txts like 4 hours late, losing 3g for couple of hours, having 100 dropped calls a day. rogers told me x10 requires new sim (bs imo), got a new sim, same issue. got a new phone, all the other issues went away however i still have 10-20 dropped calls a day.
Rogers is aware of the 3G network issues from woodstock to windsor. It's been a long month of issues.
I think it has to do with many people getting smart phones and using more of the network. meh my .02
I'm in Windsor and have been experiencing the same problems. Rogers knows about it. I work in a factory and when the network goes down it is all smartphones, Iphones, X10, htc etc. I have checked. I advise everyone to call Rogers and demand a bill credit. Most of the guys at work have called and gotten half their bill credited for the month and will do so again next month if the problems still exist. I will definitely be calling customer service myself tomorrow.
Hopefully someone can answer this. Is there a way for my evo to run correctly in europe (england and france)?
I know sprint offers phones and plans that you can "rent", but id like to run my evo.
Any ideas?

I have heard people say that you can get on CDMA networks overseas, but that it will cost you an arm and a leg. Many people seem to prefer using some VOIP solution and wifi access. Unfortunately we aren't on a GSM phone where you could purchase a cheap SIM card for a little bit of usage.
Answer: NO.
Why: CDMA (the technology that Sprint, Verizon, and MetroPCS use) is only used in North America, and certain parts of Asia (namely, Japan and China each have a carrier or two that use it). GSM is used everywhere else.
The EVO has CDMA and WiMax. It does not have GSM.
I'm not sure how Skype works on Android (haven't tried it). But assuming Skype works somehow, couldn't you just latch onto some sort of wifi?
Can't use the EVO to make actual cellular phone calls in Europe. Like stated above, the EVO is a CDMA phone and the only standard used there is GSM. You can however, use the EVO for just about everything else while you are there. My brother just came back from France last week and he was there for a month so before he went we had to figure out what we could do with our EVO's while he was there and I was in the US. When you are there turn on "airplane mode" and leave it like that the whole time you are there. This way, the phone isn't draining battery power trying to search for a CDMA tower to connect to.
The main thing is you will NEED TO HAVE WI-FI access to do anything I'm describing below.
I used to Tikl, push to talk app to keep in contact with my brother. I didn't have much luck using Qik, but I was able ooVoo to do video chat with him. I was still able to use Google Lattitude to see where he was at. His GPS actually worked there also. It was not as fast like here in the US but he was able to find his location.
My sister is in Manchester, England right now with her EVO the same thing applies there also. I do seem to notice that public wi-fi access is much more readily available in England than France. Today I "Lattituded" while she was at some hookah bar and was able to do video chat with everyone there while I was sitting at home in Iowa.
If you are currently using some kind of VOIP app now, make sure all the people you want to be in contact with are using it too. For a psuedo SMS app we used "Whatsapp" to handle our overseas text messaging since it uses internet rather than cellular service.
Hope this helps.
GPS will work anywhere.. it is a satilite signal..
the only issue will be the map you need to use with that signal.
why it is taking longer.. you have moble networkturned off. they phone use moble network to get quick read on you. the GPS is to fine tune you down to with in 9 meters or so.
Just went to France and ROME this past Sept. My evo was a paper weight. I just used it for the time & to take pictures...

Just get a Sprint world phone from eBay. HTC PRO2 for like 100 buck. There are cheaper ones also. Then take it to sprint to get a sim card. It will work anywhere in Europe. When you get to Europe buy a cheap prepaid sim card to get a local number if thats what you want. Also tell Sprint to unlock it. They will since there is no contract on it. When you get back just switch back to your EVO.
no way to get evo working in Europe since there is no CDMA network
U can use skype+wifi hotspot there, tons and tons are FREE!!!
You can also get a google-voice number, a sipgate account, and add the sipgate number to google voice, then install a sip-compatible client on the evo. (Fring does work). People will be able to call your google-voice number and it will RING on wifi.
... though I do think Skype has a plan that gives you a number, I don't know what it costs.
I was sent an automated txt message saying I 'qualified for an upgrade', so, for grins and chuckles I called to kind of inquire. I think the lady was from India or something because I don't think she quite understood what I was asking but, she did inform me that their trying to upgrade all their customers to equipment compatible with At&t. She also informed me that equipment changes must be made before May 2012 when the conversion to At&t is complete. Startling news considering I thought the FCC is still mulling over the legal stuff and here I'm told the deal is already done.....sucks if it's true because I loathe At&t with a passion. Just thought I share this information with all of you.
She's probably just giving you generic whatever and has no idea on what's going on really.
Recently I've noticed a peculiar increase in dropped calls on my and my wife's G2s, as well as two friends... li wonder if we were pushed the same OTA upate, either that or the AT&T network switch may have already happened
Well the odd thing(s) I've noticed is a specific area where I used to get full bars of 3G has now reverted to EDGE service. I say odd because T-Mobile was the only 3G service in said area not even Verizon or Sprint had 3G. Now all of a sudden At&t pops up, which never did before.
I called again because I was curious about the LG G2X and I was told similar information regarding At&t and May 2012. I really am a tad concerned, anyone else have any info regarding this date? I don't mean to come off paranoid but, that's 2 people now that gave the same exact date.
Chatted with some tmobile agent online today. Regarding the gps issue, he suggested I replace my sim card because the one I have right now is 2G. Whatever the hell that means. Apparently it's a new trouble shooting step now. I can replace it for free at a tmobile store. Question is, it sounds like fresh dung. Has anyone else tried this?

I've had them tell me the same thing for other network issues they had. I think it is just a way to get you into the store so they can try to sell you an upgrade. When I got to the store to trade my 2G SIM for a 3G SIM for T-Mobile network issues they tried to tell my I would have to pay for it. Even though they told me it would be free. 45 min's later with T-Mobile on the phone and they finally agreed to switch them.
Either way, it didn't do a damn thing, and If I had not stopped at the store 2 mins before closing I know for sure they would have tried to sell me a different phone since I have never been to a T-Mobile store where they didn't, aside from this last one.
Raistline, I'm sorry for you that you had such a negative experience with the T-Mobile store. I've been lucky I guess, I've ALWAYS had excellent service from them. In fact, I got the same advice from T-Mobile tech support regarding 3G, so I went to the T-Mobile store, and within 15 minutes had a new, 3G capable SIM card. No hassles, no pressure, no cost, just quick and pleasant customer service. Did the 3G SIM do anything for GPS? Of course not, and it was never suggested to me that it might. Maybe I'm lucky with the service I get because I live in the Portland, OR area, I dunno, but I'm not complaining.
What else is new with the 3g card?
My old sim card will not hold email or home address, just name and number.
Can you hold that in the new 3g Sim Cards?
