How to lock camera rotation? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im using two of my old Galaxy Note 4's to record tutorials. I have them set up on booms, but once I hit stop, they seem to very much favor portrait orientation unless its at a 30-degree landscape angle. I have the phone rotation disabled, but that doesn't work for the home screen or the camera. I've tried several "Rotation Control" apps, and at most that only locks the home screen, not locking the camera. The phone is for recording purposes only, so I have it minimalist and not even signed into my google account, downloading APKs from PC.
Does anyone know how to lock the Camera Rotation so it will stop re-orientation based on the way the phone it is orientated?
Please help

Stop Camera & keyboard from going to portrait when close

i wanna use my phone in landscape mode. however, it's a big hassle when the keyboard (or camera) always puts the device back in portrait when i close it. it switches the screen back to portrait when i close it, even though the screen was in landscape prior to opening the keyboard and closing it (or opening the camera app)
i don't think it's a regular setting thing. it may require some registry tweaking or an external little app to stop this behavior.
can anyone help? it's very annoying!

Auto rotate stopped working

I just got the HTC touch (love it so far) but after I installed the Sprint TV app (or about the same time, not sure if that was the direct cause) the auto rotate feature stopped working.
I can manually rotate to landscape mode but it doesn't automatic flip when I tilt the phone to the side. I've restarted, removed sprint tv, soft reset, but still isn't working.
If autorotate ever worked on your Vogue, it would be the first Vogue I've ever heard of that has that feature.
Whatever he's on, I want it.
The Vogue never had an auto-rotate.

If you have spb mobile shell 2 on your phone it will auto rotate your screen
from portrait to landscape mode. I have it (spb) on my phone (XV6900) and I just tried
it. It works.
maybe when you use a certain program like sprint tv, but it definately won't auto rotate like an iphone.
If you have mobile shell
2 it will rotate whatever
is on the screen - today
screen , email , etc. from
portrait to landscape.

Go to the tools section and push the rotate screen button.
By the way , when you
turn on the camera ,
the screen " autorotates"
to the landscape mode.
well when u open the camera it does not really Rotate the screen that's just how the camera opens the screens in behind it are still in portrait. If the screen is in portrait "mode" when you open the camera then something is wrong. And if you press a button to have it rotate that is not really auto rotate. so if by auto rotate you mean the view changes to landscape when you rotate the phone sideways that is something the vogue does not do. It does not have the hardware to detect orientation changes.
rofl the touch doesn't have a g sensor so autorotate is impossible.
Guys, no need to waste any more time on this. I think the reason for the question and confusion is a clear case of "spin".
It is true that when the Sprint TV application launches, it changes the screen orientation to landscape. When you close it, it switches back to portrait. You could say that it "automatically" does that. There is similar behavior for the camera and fullscreen video playback (if you have configured your device for it).
It is also true that the iPhone has a built-in piece of hardware that the Touch does not. This little gizmo (essentially an accelerometer) allows the phone to know when you have turned it on its side, and it will switch to landscape. This is an automatic process, and it is different from what the Touch does.
The Touch will never automatically rotate the screen unless someone here (hint, hint) writes an app that allows it to do so. One idea would be to use the camera to track the orientation of the device, and hence detect if the phone has been moved. This has obvious issues as the camera does eat up additional juice when it's on, and I'm not sure what the processing requirements are. We can make a thread on this in the hacking forum.

I don't know what you are smoking but I want some cause I have Mobil Shell 2 and it does not auto rotate. I have had my Touch 7 months and I have never had it auto rotate, I have to do it manually. As far as I understand it we do not have the necessary hardware for autorotation.
my camera "rotated"
hey.. maybe someone can explain this to me
one time when i turne don my camera. it was in portrait mode...
but it only did it once.. i realy dont like having it in landscape mode.
is there a way to get it to work in portrait mode all the time???
hey

Where can I go to download the mobile shell 2 then so mine will also rotate?
there has to be a tilt switch in the vogue, and there is not one in the sprint touch. so it will NOT AUTO rotate.

[Q] Screen Rotation isse.

Recently bought a iconia tab A500 for the GF, and she is loving this whole tablet thing, but how do we get the screen to rotate ?
It rotated left 90° when she was playing with latitude on google maps. And now I cannot seem to get it to rotate back. aranoid:
There is a small switch next to the volume button, but no matter how many times I flick it while rotating the tablet in my hands the home screen will not rotate back.
Yet if i happen to re-launch google maps i am able to rotate the tablet and the scren will rotate correctly, exit maps and it stops working
It does appear on the screen "lock on" & "lock off"
I`ve read the booklet that came with it, but it proved to be useless.
The rotation lock should be pushed to the left (closest to the volume rocker) to be unlocked. Try a reboot or power off and then on to see if that helps.
Greetings.
I just tried your suggestion, and still no luck.
Cheers
Kris.

[Q] Incorrect Photo Orientation

I did a search, but can't find a specific answer. I have a new S4 and took a variety of pictures in both vertical and horizontal orientation. Auto rotate screen is set to on in device settings. All photos displayed properly in the Gallery app, but when I uploaded all to Dropbox, some were orientated sideways and I had to manually rotate them clockwise. This is my first Samsung phone, but all other phones I've had before, Motorola, HTC, etc. did not do this. Am I missing a simple setting on the Samsung to keep photos in the proper orientation or is there a known problem with EXIF data? I have found others complaining about the same problem when emailing photos, uploading to Facebook, etc.
I've noticed that since phones autocorrect the orientation of pictures without saving the correct view. If the camera takes a picture in portrait with the home button on the bottom then there shouldn't be a problem. If you take a landscape picture with the volume buttons facing down, then there shouldn't be a problem. This is assuming the auto rotation is enabled in the screen settings. Yes, I've experienced what you are explaining with since websites. Trial and error.
Quickpic, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder is a simple and small gallery replacement that can fix orientation issues.

Thanks oscar, I'll give Quickpic a try and see if uploading from that app does the trick. I can work around the problem, it's just an annoyance I hadn't seen before. I guess Dropbox is one program that does not read the orientation flag properly, at least as output on the S4.

G6 Screen Rotation Speed (or restrict it to Gallery?)

anyway to speed it up? the lag/wait for auto-rotate is kind of a drag ... and actually the only place i want/need it is photos/videos in the gallery. if there's a way to turn it off for the rest of the OS and only enable for photos and videos, i'd appreciate the pointer.
It's usually not lag but a small delay built in the software to prevent unwanted rotation in case of movement of the phone.
I think there is a third part app that controls rotation, so you can disable it for everything exception the apps that you want it to rotate in
An example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.snowlife01.android.rotationcontrol

How big a delay are you experiencing? Is it more than 2 seconds?
As for controlling auto-rotating within a specific app, you only need it for the gallery so I'd suggest you just turn it off and enable it when you need it.
Camera still rotates when rotation is disabled, which is cool.
