I just got the HTC touch (love it so far) but after I installed the Sprint TV app (or about the same time, not sure if that was the direct cause) the auto rotate feature stopped working.
I can manually rotate to landscape mode but it doesn't automatic flip when I tilt the phone to the side. I've restarted, removed sprint tv, soft reset, but still isn't working.
If autorotate ever worked on your Vogue, it would be the first Vogue I've ever heard of that has that feature.
Whatever he's on, I want it.
The Vogue never had an auto-rotate.

If you have spb mobile shell 2 on your phone it will auto rotate your screen
from portrait to landscape mode. I have it (spb) on my phone (XV6900) and I just tried
it. It works.
maybe when you use a certain program like sprint tv, but it definately won't auto rotate like an iphone.
If you have mobile shell
2 it will rotate whatever
is on the screen - today
screen , email , etc. from
portrait to landscape.

Go to the tools section and push the rotate screen button.
By the way , when you
turn on the camera ,
the screen " autorotates"
to the landscape mode.
well when u open the camera it does not really Rotate the screen that's just how the camera opens the screens in behind it are still in portrait. If the screen is in portrait "mode" when you open the camera then something is wrong. And if you press a button to have it rotate that is not really auto rotate. so if by auto rotate you mean the view changes to landscape when you rotate the phone sideways that is something the vogue does not do. It does not have the hardware to detect orientation changes.
rofl the touch doesn't have a g sensor so autorotate is impossible.
Guys, no need to waste any more time on this. I think the reason for the question and confusion is a clear case of "spin".
It is true that when the Sprint TV application launches, it changes the screen orientation to landscape. When you close it, it switches back to portrait. You could say that it "automatically" does that. There is similar behavior for the camera and fullscreen video playback (if you have configured your device for it).
It is also true that the iPhone has a built-in piece of hardware that the Touch does not. This little gizmo (essentially an accelerometer) allows the phone to know when you have turned it on its side, and it will switch to landscape. This is an automatic process, and it is different from what the Touch does.
The Touch will never automatically rotate the screen unless someone here (hint, hint) writes an app that allows it to do so. One idea would be to use the camera to track the orientation of the device, and hence detect if the phone has been moved. This has obvious issues as the camera does eat up additional juice when it's on, and I'm not sure what the processing requirements are. We can make a thread on this in the hacking forum.

I don't know what you are smoking but I want some cause I have Mobil Shell 2 and it does not auto rotate. I have had my Touch 7 months and I have never had it auto rotate, I have to do it manually. As far as I understand it we do not have the necessary hardware for autorotation.
my camera "rotated"
hey.. maybe someone can explain this to me
one time when i turne don my camera. it was in portrait mode...
but it only did it once.. i realy dont like having it in landscape mode.
is there a way to get it to work in portrait mode all the time???
hey

Where can I go to download the mobile shell 2 then so mine will also rotate?
there has to be a tilt switch in the vogue, and there is not one in the sprint touch. so it will NOT AUTO rotate.

I have an imate Jasjar running WM5. When ever I twist the screen, the screen automatically changes to landscape when using the keyboard and to portrait when not using keyboard. This is a great feature, but what if I want it to be permanently in landscape mode, even when the keyboard is not in use. I have a heavy skin on the device which takes ages to change orientation, often crashing my device. Besides, I find landscape easier to work with and have to click on the screen rotation button every time.
Is there a way to stop the auto screen orientation? Maybe some kind of registry edit. The wiki said that devices like Universal have the auto orientation hard wired, independent of the registry. Do the XDA developer gurus have a solution?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303904 gives what you need. It works for Windows mobile 5 too
Hi,
I want to use my HD in Landscape mode in the car, mostly for Navigation purposes, but sometimes also 'just' as a phone. (I need the landscape mode to have full functionality of Navigon MN7). The Problem is that the TF3D supports only portrait mode. Is there a possibility to (automatically) use a different Landscape-Today-Screen when turning the device and get back to TF3D when turning back to portrait? The Toch pro has a kind of Landscape today-Screen, although it's not TF3D... could there be a possibility to use that somehow? or just any other sensible possibility without switching off tf3d or manually using second today or something?
regards jan
really no one any ideas/suggestions? am i the only one who has that "problem"?
Have you tried GSen or Gyrator 2?
From what I understood it will fit your needs. Search for any of them here on forum.
i know about programs like gsen or gyrator, but that's not the point... the point is that the tf3d today/home screen itself is not available in landscape mode.
Another problem seems to be, that there are certain applications, who change the orientation again.
When I set orientation to landscape and start Navigation, it works as expected. Then a call comes in and the phone application turns everything back to portrait ... no way, to go back to landscape anymore. Is there a way to tell the phone app, not to turn the screen back again?
By the way, on the touch diamond the phone app runs in landscape, when this is the actual orientation ...

i believe you just answered your own question.
if you look at the raphael, the landscape mode requires an entirely different set of graphics and frames and layouts. it is not a simple rotate of the portrait view. On HD, that set of graphics, and frames do not exist. I _believe_ even if the GSEN or gyrator will rotate the homescreen to landscape, you would get some pretty ugly results. i haven't tried myself.
Yep it's like an untuned tv on the right. I really like it
Having said that if anyone does port the graphics...
This is the deal breaker for me.
The lack of keyboard will be better if I can make the screen horizontal as I do on my TyTn II. My screen is permanently on ladnscape mode.
As it looks better and there is no lag when switching.
Possible on the HTC Touch HD?
From the manual I read online and playing with it at the store I think its not possible.
Any info?
Thanks
Solution:
To remain constantly in landscapde mode:
You will need to rotate the screen and switch the phone dialer menu(screen) from the default HTC one to the WM dialer menu.
There are plenty of ways to rotate the screen and one way to switch from HTC dialer to WM.
N.B: You must disable the HTC Touch Flow 3d home menu by deselecting from the Home menu in settings.
To change to WM dialer from HTC dialer:
1- Download and install HD Tweak (thanks montecristoff & co.)
2- Use it to change the dialer to WM dialer.
To rotate the screen:
* Search on the forum for the registry tweak to make the option of selecting either landscape or portrait appear. Then go to Start/Settings/Screen and select landscape.
or
Use software like pbar or quickmenu or spb pocketplus to rotate the screen. Obviously pbar or quickmenu are preferable because they are free and very useful (thanks creators).
Cons:
1- With the WM dialer, you loose the ability to make video calls. Its not forever though, you can easily switch to HTC dialer from the HD tweak app.
2- You fore go the HTC Touch Flow 3d home screen. You will probably need to get SPB mobile shell or similar.
Pros:
1- Screen looks damn nice in landscape mode, or as I like to refer to it as wide screen!
2- More text in a more natural perspective. Things dont look so narrow.
3- Typing onscreen is much easier because the virtual keyboard is larger/wider.
I prefer this way because I did not like the way my previous TyTn II (Kaiser) lagged when it rotated from portrait to landscape every time I opened/used the physical keyboard. So I decided to keep it landscape. Turned out to be the best(my) option.
No landscape mode is supported! only TF3D today plugin doesnt support landscape!
so you will not have a problem!
Most software will work in landscape mode - see the FAQ:
"How do I make all applications turn when I rotate the HD?
Not all applications respond to the g-sensor (screen rotation)
There are a number of applications (eg. Gyrator2, GSen) that can help work around this issue. "
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlackstoneFAQ
Not sure which applications work in landscape and which don't though, but you'd get most of them in landscape.
The Keyboard is pretty usable in portrait with such a big screen too.
I want it in landscape mode permanently!
Not with some applications...
Well u can rotate today screen aswell but it wont look as nice.Tobad it rotates back though when u return from an applicaiton to the today screen.
But that should be fixable. Just try to rotate today via the built in rotate setting and u will se how it looks.
It looks a little weird on the right side of the screenshot but it disapperas immedeiately.
I use SPB mobile shell & SPB diary combined as my today screen.
So I wont be using HTC's today screen at all.

thanks a lot.
I could not find the tweak to enable landscape mode.
Something else you could try - install AE Button Plus, map one of the buttons (e.g. volume up) to "rotate screen", rotate the screen to the orientation you want, then re-load AE Button Plus and un-map the button. That should do it? I'm not entirely sure whether this will stick when you turn off or soft reset your device though...
Alternatively you could do what I have done, and map a long press of volume up to rotate one direction and long press of volume down to rotate the other way. There are occasions where portrait mode is better, others where landscape is better. Also means that volume controls still work as intended when pressed normally. I find gsen and gyrator a bit tempremental at times, so prefer having manual control over the rotation.
Even this will not cause proper rotation if your looking to stay in landscape. tf3d will not work in landscape without some sort of bodge from the diamond. I use my htc device in a car with landscape gps apps. I gave up on tf3d as maybe i don't need it because i've got voice commander. I set gyrator to switch to the phone app and rotate if the phone was landscape and happened to be on the manilla screen. I wanted the phone app to be landscape so i can see who i'm voice calling while in the car. this works, but if you switch to another app then back to the phone then the phone goes portrait and then only re shaking and landscaping the phone gets it to go landscape. Really I don't want to touch it when im driving. I guess I could set a voice command to rotate but I dont think its worth it. I also tried unhiding the landscape with a reg edit but once again the phone app re-portraits. Im now going to try a hreset and stoping the customize incase that affects the phone orientation if not im going a hunting a reg setting as maybe there is one that causes the phone app to portrait? I swear this was easier on my universal but i refuse to give up (and im kinda having fun )

Again, in either HD Tweak or Advance Config, there's a bit where you can check which phone dialer skin is used (I think HD Tweak) maybe if you try setting the phone dialer to the original WM 6.1 dialer instead of the HTC one it might not keep switching back to portrait? You won't be able to make video calls, but that may be something you don't mind losing... I know I never use it...
No thats fine, I have ugly friends
woohoo thanks guys no more poking around in the dark with reg settings for me hd tweak did the job!

I believe he is woohoo'ing because if you switch from HTC dialer type to WM dialer type via HD Tweak (you do loose the ability to make a video call), it then no longer rotates back to portrait mode after you switched to landscape.
Prior, it would remain in portrait mode till you accessed the dialer screen, then for some reason it would rotate back to portrait mode.
Now with the WM dialer style, it stays permanently in landscape mode.
This is with TF3d disabled of course.
For some reason even though it never used to do it, my touch hd has begun to rotate the screen automatically when it's in my pocket etc.
When I press the standby button to wake it up it's usually the wrong way up now, and it's annoying having to wait a few seconds to rotate the correct way round. It never used to do this, but it would still rotate things like opera and photos etc by turning the phone and that's great.
Why would it have begun behaving like this? I have got Gyrator installed but have never set anything up on it and it's been there for ages so I doubt it's that.
Cheers!
Have you upgraded with any og the Gyrator / G-Sensor cabs?
Regardless - search for "changescreen" on the Themes/Apps/S/ware forum and use that to set programs you do not wish to rotate.
Thanks mate.
No I haven't upgraded the gyrator cab or the G sensor one (I don't think anyway....).
As I say I haven't even used gyrator as I'm not certain how to set it up and decided I didn't really need to anyway.
Have installed changescreen (cheers for the tip) and set Manila in it to only have upright portrait mode. It seems to work but not quite fully.
For instance, if I have the phone on its side (landscape) and on standby, then wake it up, it comes on in landscape.
It does then change to portrait after a couple of seconds, even if it's on its side so the software does what it should do, but that delay while it kicks in is still pretty annoying to be honest.
Is that normal with this app?
Bottom line is that the phone didn't do this until recently so there must be something that has changed and can therefore be undone, but I don't know what.
Appreciate the help.
Hello,
I often use the phone in landscape mode in my car. I would like to get the home screen and call screen (displayed when making or receiving a call) to rotate to landscape display. I've noticed that the call screen sometimes rotates to landscape but then very quickly back to portrait. I've managed to get the home screen to rotate to landscape using the rotate hotkey hint and tip. Is there a way of making this behaviour happen by default when the phone is rotated?
Thanks,
James
How did you manage to rotate the home screen ? I know there is a tip using rotate.exe .. but I could not find it.
I would like to rotate everything manually.
Anyway my phone application rotates correctly with no problem. Actually I hate it

I didn't think that you could rotate the current version of Sense (except of course photos & videos and the music tab).
Dr.Sid, if you want manual rotation, give PLToggle a go, in my signature
