Joying Satnav app or GPS issue ??????? HELP - Android Head-Units

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I have a Android joying headunit and having an issue in regards to satnav. Now I use Google maps and I can set a destination and the app knows my current location but once I'm driving the satnav app doesn't update my location (it still registers me at the initial starting location).
At first I thought could it be a GPS issue, but GPS always seems to know my current location once I start any app that needs my location, the problem only happens once I'm on the move it doesn't update it on the app. So baffled whether its a GPS issue or app issue?
Has anyone had a similar issue or know if a possible resolve?

1-) how many satellites do you see ?
2-) how much takes to the gps to make the "fix position" and with how many satellites ?
If you don't know the answers to the questions, let's do in another mode.
Head Unit connected to the internet (wifi)-> Google Play Store -> apk GPS TEST (download and install)-put in on the gps antenna of the device;
Now open GPS TEST->Settings->AGPS-> "clear and update".
RESTART the hu( not closed and open, RESTART), open GPS TEST and wait; first you'll see 2-3 satellites, but slowly the increase till 20-25 and do the "fix position" with 10-12 satellites.
This operation take about 10-15 minutes, after your radio "catch" the satellitesin 10 seconds.

@nick1964 Thats not the issue, the issue he's describing is totally different. The unit will catch GPS signals and navigation works totally fine with other third party apps (iGo, Sygic, Navigon, etc), but Google Maps has an issue where it will catch your location initially, but once you start navigating it will not update the location in the app. If you switch over to another GPS app or even check the GPS in the SYU settings app, it has full lock. So your troubleshooting steps dont really apply in this case. It's happened to me too, it just randomly started working after some days. I don't mainly use Google Maps so I can't really tell what fixed it.

@gamer765 I have only tested with Google maps, I'll give iGo a try shortly.

If he didn't know what level of satellites signal have, how many satellites see, how do you talk about "that is not an issue"?
Do you know what is GSM triangulation?
Do you understand what is navigation offline and online?
Do you know what is AGPS data and for what is used ?

Hi all I have an update, it seems to be the GPS thats the issue (NOT the apps that use GPS).
Initially I thought it was the GPS only worked at the initial moment when using a app that uses GPS to get my location, but at all the times this happened I was connected using my mobile phones data connection for Internet. I checked the GPS info and its says "no signal" (but the GPS is 100% connected to the headunit, please see attached photo).
Any ideas anyone?

I have this same problem in my new Joying Android 10 HU as well.

GPS Stopped working

Hi there,
My GPS suddenly stopped working. It used to work fine before, but now when I switch on the TomTom6 application, it says "No GPS Device". 30 seconds later it changes it to "Waiting for a Valid GPS signal".
Did I somehow disable the GPS? I am not that familiar with my P3600 and the TomTom Navigation. Please advice.
Thanks.

tomtom will always say "no gps device" when you first fire it up and it'll switch over to "no valid GPS signal," get into clear view of the sky and it'll find a signal.
Done that. Still not working. And it used to work fine a week ago.
Any other ideas?
me too
My GPS (tomtom trinity) is very quirky, too. I opened my GPS icon and set my gps program port to GPD1 and my hardware to COM 9. Worked immediately - then quit for a day - working again today. I don't understand what GPD1 is and I don't know what COM ports my other software and hardware uses - If I saw a listing, I might not understand but it would prob help. Can anyone either tell me appropriate settings if there are any OR tell me how to show what ports are already in use - perhaps I could open other programs then check port usage - anyway thanks for any help
My apologies if this specific question has already been answered - I try to read the whole board but it's hard to keep up.
How many GPS Application u use?
Do you use more than one GPS Application? Make sure there is only one running at a time. Remember: Most applications do not exit if close them. As far as I know if one application uses the GPS Chip of our beloved trinity any second application will wait forever...

My GPS worked fine for few weeks but it does not work any more.
Patience!!! I have had GPS fixes in 15 seconds with some ROMS. Currently it takes 15 seconds to move from "No GPS Device" to "Waiting for a Valid GPS signal". If you have this message WAIT - even for 5 minutes. IT WILL WORK.

Tomtom 7 Locking on

Tom tom 7 wont lock on to any satellites. I have tried astro gps launcher and others. It shows in Tomtom that it finds satellites but they are not blue like when it locks on, they remain Grey or just don't move at all. Can anyone help me?
Are you using a bluetooth GPS reciever or the internal reciever? I'm not sure if that matters at all but if your satelites arent locking on go to the GPS configuation menu and select whatever option you use (ie internal or external bluetooth) if external bluetooth press select then likely com 2 I would assume.. thats the default setting. Once thats done it should connect shortly after. Sometimes when tomtom starts for me it locks on right away other times it seems to have issues connecting to the receiver. IN order to use the internal gps recevier you have to be running one of the roms thathave activated it. If you havn't (just covering all bases here) then that could be why.. cause your internal gps isnt activated. NOW if it is activated and you still arent locking on make sure you're outside and leave it sitting there for a few minutes. It should lock on as thats what most people have had to do when first getting it to work.
If that doesn't work I'm not sure what else to recommend.

what rom are you running?
There have been a few roms around here that perform terribly with GPS locks, sometimes requiring a few resets for it to lock properly.
Can you get a lock using Windows Live?
I can say that TomTom7 works fine with astro launcher. The settings in TomTom work both for internal gps, as well as other NMEA gps device: com4, baud 4800.
If you're using the internal GPS antenna in the Vogue after using Astrolauncher and letting tomtom load go to your gps setup in tomtom and then choose "other NMEA GPS reciever", then baud rate 4800... then com 2. That worked for me. Took a few minutes the first time it got a lock. watch the satellite status screen, should say poor GPS or something at first... and you should see grey bars at the bottom where its normally blue when you have a lock. Thats when you know the internal GPS antenna is on.
I have the new gps sprint rom WM6.1 and also tried quick gps and it takes like five to ten minutes to connect

Tomtom7 GPS Fix + Google maps

Hey guys, I have always had issues with tomtom getting a sat fix for the longest while. A couple weeks ago when I was messing with tomtom i was like screw this and went to google maps and enabled the use gps feature and got a fix. I then went back to tomtom and my sats came up in 3 seconds or so. Now my question is ... is it a coincidence that my tomtom getting gps fix quickly whenever i use google maps to get a sat. Or is it some kind of internal gps storage thingy ... not sure what I am trying to say.
But still guys with the xperia who been having issues try getting a fix with tomtom and see how long it takes. Close tomtom and use google maps to get a gps location and after u do get yourself on gps, close google maps and go back to tomtom.
Let me know what you get, everytime I tried this it worked for me ... not sure why or what is going on. But tomtom7 takes forever to load up with the x1 compared to google maps.
I just posted on another thread that I think there is an issue with gps on x1. Mine was working super fast on both satnav and google maps and then just stopped working at all. I now have the same problem as another poster that my x1 will not get a lock at all so sending it back for replacement on advice from sonyericsson support.
load up google maps and get a fix then close google maps then load tomtom and see if u get anything then. That works for me.
No. Afraid even google maps doesnt get a lock at all. Tried pairing the phone with a bluetooth gps receiver and all software works perfectly and fast so definately a hardware problem on the phone sadly.
it might be nothing but...
i had a problem with tomtom:
gps nav was working (selected internal gps antenna) but screen was grey, i could see my movement but no calculations.
gps was working in google maps.
--
Problem was: i disabled my phone in comms manager
off: aircraft mode
off: phone
on: bluetooth
on: wifi
tomtom says i'm in aircraft mode, and doesnt show collors, calculations or routes (actually it does show routes but doesnt update it when i change it).

GPS not GPS-ing

Hello. Last hour i have been looking for the answer to my question, with no results.
I googled and i searched in the forum, but everything is the same as before.
I just wanted to use the gps on my pda...a few days since i got it, and now i am beginning using the gps.
I have downloaded two applications, what i want is to check the speed and altitude, at least. I have richesse GPS, turbo GPS.
The option is ticked in the wmobile menu (let application turn on the gps).
The fact is that i launch the application, turn on the gps, and nothing works. No altitude, no compass, no coordinates of my position (X Y).
What is missing? i have also updated the quick gps application.
don't know the apps in question but gps generally don't work indoors so try outside
Can you download and install Google Maps, run it and tell it to use GPS, it should work no problems. That way we can tell if it is a hardware or software problem.

[Q] Can we bypass "show location settings?" pop up?

In Google Maps when a user of a non GPS android tablet selects driving or walking navigation a pop up screen saying "Show Location Settings?" appears. Clicking OK is the only action that can be performed which leads to the Settings/Location and Security screen. Normally the user would select Use GPS satellites and click the Back button. On tablets, that can connect to external Bluetooth GPS, there is no Use GPS satellites to enable and clicking Back brings you to the same pop up screen while voice guided navigation is being performed. Navigation is working but the map is hiding behing this screen. What can I do to bypass or remove this pop up screen?
Mock locations in Settings/Applications/Development is enabled as well as Use wireless networks. The bluetooth GPS location of the tablet works. Apps like Bluetooth GPS Provider, BlueGPS4droid and Bluetooth GPS Mouse work beautifully connecting to any external bluetooth GPS.
You can install your app as a system app. But this will require root..
I have root. My tablet is 99% stock rom and alot coming down the pipeline are stock and rooted out of the box. The problem is there's no embedded GPS but stock roms include things like telephony, etc.
I have moved Maps among all other gapps into system/app which work great. The navigation can be done w/ 3rd party apps like Telenav using external bt GPS but for some reason Maps is looking for the internal GPS. I just want to fool Maps into thinking my tablet has GPS or edit the condition for the pop up to happen.
why would you want navigation without GPS. just use the directions feature in google maps, its the same thing, without spoken directions.

i have external GPS, Maps sees my location, i just want navigation too. if i actually used it for driving the directions feature wouldn't give me voice guidance. that only comes from Driving or walking.

I, too would like a solution for this. I'm using an external bluetooth GPS unit and the app "Bluetooth GPS Mouse" for navigation in place of the crappy internal one that the Samsung Captivate provides. If I leave the internal one enabled, Maps repeatedly jumps between the two different locations from the two GPS units. If I try to disable the internal one, however, Navigation just prompts me until I enable it again.
How can I bypass this?
