Screen Burn? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

I recently noticed that my RN7 has very slight screen burn (or ghosting) all around the edges (like slightly smaller screen protector). I can also barely see some stuck notification icons at the top, so this is definitely burn-in. Mu question is, is burn common on LCD? Or is it because RN7 is just a budget phone with budget screen? Will it also get worse with time?

It's very common on cheap phones (i had the image retention issue on my Mi A2 and Redmi Note 5 too), on the Note 7 i can't see any (maybe just luck), if it'll get worse you can always contact the official support and ask for a replacement (until you're in the warranty period), usually it's not a big problem and It will appear/disappear randomly (or if you keep your screen off for some minutes).

It actually disappeared now... I moved from Beta of xiaomi.eu to Stable and I don't see any "burn". Don't know if it was just a coincidence or what.

Is screen ghosting blurring?

Hi all. I want to buy huawei mate 8 but yesterday i looked this phone at the shop and I,m very disapointing about the poor screen animation. Is this screen has a ghosting, blurring? There is no problem in huawei P8 or Mate 7. Please answer
Hi there,
What do you mean by ghosting and blurring screen?
My M8 screen looks and works fine. Have you looked at the online reviews?
You're probably looking at a model that's been used, played around with and on display for awhile
"You're probably looking at a model that's been used, played around with and on display for awhile"
What does it mean ?
No, the screen doesn't normally ghost and blur at all. They must have had a bad phone or the same image has been on the screen for months which causes the screen to "burn in" and ghost and blur.
Maybe thats the problem. IT's looks more intensive on YT scroll pages or menu left, right between pages. It's not massive problem but much more than P8 and MATE 7
I was in the shop today once more. I took a new MATE8 from box....and i cant believe the same thing happening with another new MATE8, not smoothness scrolling. There is light blurring, something like ghosting between black and light colors Mate 7 hasn't that problem. Maybe update change this problem?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Huawei-Mate-8-Smartphone-Review.159337.0.html
slow time response of the screen is cause of blurring and ghosting
Change shop...
Until now nobody here noticed that problem!
@up really ? what about test?
No problem with mate 8 screen with me
I had note 5 and i see mate 8 screen is better is term of colors and brightness
Screen gets a bit blurry when exposed to cold. Otherwise it's OK.
yesterday I saw Mate 9 at the shop (in Germany). It's screen was also very very slow. It reminds me an old laptop screen from 90s. When you are watching still image - it's nearly perfect. But if something is moving - you see only blur.
Just press the square onscreen button to call multitasking cards menu. And swipe those cards. If you have a phone with decent screen you will notice the difference immediately.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Huawei-Mate-9-Phablet-Review.182825.0.html
it's 57ms which means that this screen can show only 17.8 FPS. I don't want to believe this but it's true.
Is there a chance that huawei will enable overdrive or they will ship mate9 with another revision of this display?

Large discoloured block on 2nd hand Note 4 - Common or not?

I bought a Note 4 from ebay, and I've noticed there is a large block of the screen is discoloured (somewhat less noticeable when using any screen mode other than 'Basic', but it's still there). It also seems quite yellow on the Basic mode (but I prefer to use Basic because it's supposed to be the most accurate).
Did anyone here with a Note 4 ever experience this? Now that I've noticed it, I keep fixating on it, but I don't know if it's worth the hassle of getting it sent back and doing a lottery with other auctions to try and get a good one?

Could be that the screen has been replaced with a cheap lcd (beacause only samsung makes super amoled screens, thus being very expensive to replace), the screen is going bad/has gone bad or it could be some kind of burn in.
It probably is the original screen with chronic burn in. My wife's Note 4 has exactly the same issue. This is common with the Amoled screen. My S2, S4 and S5 also all have this colouration. There is next to nothing you can do to correct this on your existing screen. The only realistic option is to replace the bad screen with a new one....which will, in time, begin to exhibit the exact same issue.
It's probably screen burn-in. You will need to replace the display in order to fix that.

image retention?

So far this has been the best mobile device I have ever owned from Palm, to BlackBerry, Motorola, iPhone, Samsung, Nexus, Asus. This has also been the best OS I have used to date. No lag, no battery drain, no boot loop, and I get a removable battery.
Too many features others lack for the same price with less storage for the same money as the V20.
All that being said there is a problem with this phone that also ocurred with my V10. I keep the screen on at maximum brightness all the time since battery is not an issue with this phone (I have many spare batteries). About 7 months into my V10 I started noticing "ghosting" along the left and right edge of the screen. I use white icons which means I always have a dark wall paper. I could notice a very thin whitish smear along the edges. Its not bleed like you sometimes see on the second screen. What I notice goes away when you turn off the screen a while or you switch to a lighter colored background. Then I started noticing that icons for notifications were beginning to burn into the screen when using a dark background... Very odd because this is almost always an issue with OLED screens and not LCD displays like on the LG phones. Then the screen burn in started occurint on the main screen, typically when a bright image is on the screen for a long time and when switching to a screen image with a dark background the borders of the previous image are still visible on the new image. Once the phone is off for while, again, the retention issue goes away but comes back if the same image is on the screen for more more than 30 seconds or so.
Thankfully This does not affect video playback or video streaming. Its only with digital images, logos, or text.
For those not familiar with this problem its called image retention.
I placed a warranty claim on the V10 and a new phone was sent. I traded in the replacement phone immediatley for the V20. And now only 4 months into ownership the exact same problem is occurring... Grrrreat.
When I called LG about the V10 they had no idea what I was talking about. I pointed out that this issue has been discussed in the forums for the last year.

it will go away its not really screen burn in, lcd's have this issue and its common, turn screen off for 24 hours and let the lcd cool off and the ghosting will go away. The LCD's dont have the same screen burn in that the OLED screen would.. but latent images will occur if your keeping it on non stop and high brightness. IPS at its best.
also try and use the screen burn in app and let it spam the screen with the multi colors overnight, this will help cover the burn in like ghost images.
24 hours? Hmm... I will try 8 hours tops because of obligations I need to be available by phone all the time.
I have had IPS displays before that were on all the time and didnt see this issue before...and I run all my devices into the ground.
My Plasma TV has latency issues, my Samsung AMOLED displays have burn in, Samsung LCDs had vertical banding, this LG IPS display has latency...so which displays are immune from premature (in less than one 12 month) issues?

V10 , V20 , G5's displays ( maybe include G6) are quantum dot IPS so they all meet image retention . Other IPS displays never meet this problem
I noticed this issue on my v20. If the phone remains off for a bit the image goes away. It can be annoying but if it doesn't hurt the phone
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
The screen on the V20 isn't a regular IPS, it's a "quantum dot IPS" which may be more prone to some degree of image retention due to their form of illumination (I don't know a lot about it but it's a kind of atomic luminesence) which supposedly increases colour accuracy and range while lowering the power requirement for for the backlight.
It's possible this might be the root cause of the 'ghosting' but I'm mostly guessing.
Ironic though if QD displays are prone to ghosting, and LG knowingly equipped thier phone with an always-on second screen with that tech.
Yes. I'm on my 2nd replacement for the same issue. The phone I'm typing on is now having it. The screens last anywhere from 6 to 8 months before breaking down.
Glad to see that this isn't only happening to me, I find it super annoying, I never had this happen before on other devices, and it's an unacceptable occurrence that of course nothing will be done about it, I for one can't wait to get rid of the V20.
same thing started happening to my v20 recently, around 4-5 month old phone. it's an annoyance that should happen to a flagship phone, but it looks like we're SOL...

Tilted Pixel lines Problem.
I am also facing same problem with my 3 months old LG V20 Phone.
My phone have one more Problem.
I can see pixel lining (in whole screen) even though it is quad hd display. But the problem is that it is not horizontal, It is tilted 10 degree, and there is no vertical lines that I can recognize . And it is annoying to me.
If the screen is equally pixelated then I should have seen both vertical and horizontal lines of pixel equally like you can see in TV LCD Displays.
I encourage anyone whose 12 month warranty is about to expire to file a claim. And not use the phone at maximum brightness unless outdoors. Luckily I had some other issues with the phone like NFC and the speaker being somewhat distorted and the phone was replaced for those issues as well. If you see any deterioration in any other hardware aspect of your V20 you should definitely file a warranty claim.
I plan to keep this warranty replacement for another year as the only phone with the image quality I like is the Sony Experia XZ Premium which doesn't work with Verizon. Believe it or not I compared the V20 to virtually every new OLED flagship anr they all had a dingy yellowy color compared to the V20, including the new iPhone X. The Sony was the only phone that had both the color accuracy like and LCD but the deep color pop of an OLED. Best of both worlds with the only 4K screen and battery life better than my V20

It is my understanding that the V20 will get image retention, but not actually burn-in. Is this true?
Also, I have searched for solutions to the image retention problem. Most solutions advise the use of apps that cycle through colors or simply leaving the device off for awhile. I used a color cycle app, which helped, but the issue returns. And leaving my device off is, simply put, not an option. I did come across a post about replacing the thermal paste. Any truth to this method?
But I'm wondering, if I go through with taking my phone apart to apply paste, wouldn't it be beneficial to also replace the screen as well? Or am I missing some factor I haven't read about yet?

Once image retention sets in it will return once the screen is on for long enough. I ran those screen burn in apps overnight for months. Made no difference at all. The only option is to completely replace the display if you can get it cheap.

No need to do all that, install Night Screen by paper airplane dev team and set the slider at around 80%(make sure you're on the moon icon). Also let the screen cool off before you do this and set it up. You won't really notice the filter much and all the retention problems will be a thing of the pass.
@porscheoscar - No kidding lol Replacement LCD are not cheap. I'm gonna keep an eye on them cause I want to keep my V20 as long as possible. One of the last phones, that I'm aware of, I can carry an extra battery for. I love switching batteries while my friends with their latest, greatest phones watch their battery percentage like a hawk hehe
@salvichulo - Thanks for the tip ^_^ I installed it & am giving it a workout. I try not to be on my phone a lot, but I'm a gamer ;P Once phones became powerful enough to really game on, I killed my Xbox Live account & game exclusively on my phone. When I get the money I'm gonna look into getting an Android Emulator for my laptop.
A bunch of people are on here saying that they notice this ghosting problem after a few months, and that after that their phone's screen deteriorates rapidly. I just got this phone for Christmas, and I love it, but I noticed this annoying ghosting problem immediately. Should I be worried? I'm a little nervous it's getting worse.
why don't you root your phone? By rooting your phone you can change color setting by using custom kernel it help you with this problem .

I don't really know how to root my phone, it seems complicated, and wouldn't it void the warranty?

Screen uniformity

So how is everyone's experience with regards to display uniformity of the Asus ZMPM1? My screen has some issues and I want to know how common these are and if getting a replacement would be wise.
The only reason I went for an IPS LCD display this time instead of an AMOLED was because I was sick of the AMOLED screen lottery where a lot of screens have tints / uneven backlight/ visible mura effects (and also because the Asus was dirt cheap). My previous phones (SGS4, SGS6) both had these kinds of issues and I hoped things would be different this time. But unfortunately the Pro M1 I got from Flipkart is slightly darker/yellower at the bottom. It's noticeable only when brightness is pretty low, but it's still distracting. Should I get a replacement? Or is it not worth the hassle/risk (since the replacement might be worse, as was the case with my SGS6).

I have the same issue, lcd is darker bottom side. I didn't opt for replacement as the same condition might be with the replacement unit.
Yea fa me too ..it too dark on navigation bar...6gb variant...!! Two days ago got that device from Flipkart!!!! Is that issues only fa me .??? Pls reply.....! N can i replacement? D device??? Pls say
I have the 6 gb variant. So far i didn't have any issues with the display.
Yes my screen is also slightly darker n has kind of black blur on the bottom of the nav bar a bit yellowish too on the bottom part, but if u turn it upside down the upper part will also be the same, i have the 4gb version, but interestingly its more vivid and contrasty than other ips lcd, almost like an amoled display, cmiiw

Why are the Pixel 4 screens so poor in terms of uniformity?

So I got my.hands on a pixel 3 earlier this year and had nothing but problems with the screen in terms of overall uniformity. Pink splotches or top half pink bottom half normal.
Fast forward 9 months I thought I'd give the Pixel 4 a go. Newer tech, thought these issues would have been ironed out, but obviously not.
My Pixel 4 - https://ibb.co/cCHHrRg
- Brightness around 20%
- Smooth display on
- Night light off.
Top left looks pink whilst the bottom right almost looks greeny?
I can't surely be the only one who has these issues?
Really not sure whether to return the phone for a refund or to take a gamble and get a replacement. The thought of playing the lottery again and constantly losing is a major put off.
I do miss the Pixel Line and the S10e just doesn't feel the same!
Has anyone experienced any similar issues?
Sure! mine looks similar especially at night with low brightness it even has bleeding and flashes light (try to do it yourself, go to gallery on a totally black picture, put the brightness at maximum and see yourself, pixel should be off, and they are on instead and they even flash white sometimes)
hope next batches of products will not have these issues

Why accept that thought on a product that cost as much as it did!?
I'm such a big fan of Google, I had pixel 2 and 3xl, I bought the pixel 4 hoping that the camera and the whole hardware would be great, but for the price we paid it..
Not so worth imo
Thinking about moving to iPhone 11 pro, the camera so really good and is overpriced just like the pixel 4.

I love the Pixel line for the software but the hardware is trash.
Another photo I took earlier.
https://pasteboard.co/IMVRgiI.jpg
I can not reproduce this to the extent your photograph is showing.
While I can discern the border between the 'forehead' and the screen, it's only there if I look at it a lot closer and more intently than I would during normal use.
I've not seen any pixels flashing, perhaps you have a faulty display/connector, I'd be looking into that before using your screen as an example of all Pixel 4's having issues with their display.
I'd like to add that I think it's odd that your screenshot shows a darker black behind the legacy software buttons you've enabled at the bottom of the screen than the rest of your screen shows - odd because both areas are displayed by the screen, they should be equally black.
Finally, perhaps you should look into taking a new picture where your highlights aren't blown / your image isn't overexposed, I think it's likely there's something wrong with your RGB channels.
I'm rather enjoying my Pixel 4, while it might not be a huge upgrade from the Pixel 3 you seem to come from, I come from a Moto G3 (2015), which means it's a world of difference for me. The only drawback I can think of is the battery life, but both during and outside of work hours I'm near chargers often enough for it to matter little. I'd say calling the hardware "trash" is a bit of an exaggeration, as much of an exaggeration as your photographed proof appears to me
Merry Christmas!

The smaller Pixel 4 uses an LG OLED panel (which has gotten better year after year of Google using them on their Pixel devices, but have notoriously exhibited uniformity issues across the screen -much more so than the Samsung panel the 4XL uses). That said, thankfully I don't have that red/magenta tint that seems to be fairly common for this panel (search reddit). I do however have the green tint that seems to come from the bottom of the panel up (that is a software issue caused by bad calibration of the 90hz display -regardless of whether you have 90hz on or not). It is more prominent on some screens than others, but it seems that most/all Pixel 4s suffer from that.
Anyway, I agree that Google just can't get their hardware right and, frankly, it's because they don't care. They just want people to focus on all their software innovations and since no one makes Google Play Edition phones anymore, we're stuck with their poor design and implementation.
