Dead SGS7 EDGE, battery or mainboard issue? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi all,
What do you think, what could be dead in my phone?
Phone was working perfectly, when I was reading some stuff using Chrome it stopped working [freeze], I pressed power button for few seconds and phone rebooted properly, I could use it for another about 20 minutes and then I got another freeze, at that moment I was not even able to restart phone with power button, when battery level was 0% phone came off, I charged it again and was able to run it for another about 15 minutes, I even managed to go to TWRP and saved a backup,:good:
Finally in TWRP mode my phone got a freeze and after that I am not able to do anything (it was freezed for a few hours and was not responding for power button at all) , phone is completely dead since then, I can not charge it, any keys combination is not working at all,
I guess it will be battery or main board issue but what do you think? I opened a rear cover, disassembled battery but physically everything looks fine,
Thanks for any ideas,
Cheers

its nearly impossible to tell, the two things you have mentioned (Mainboard & battery) are the two most likely to have broken....
Sounds like your phone is bricked unfortunately - you could try taking it to a repair shop for a 2nd opinion

New problem with intermittant soft rebooting

Soft reboots about 1 time per half hour now. Seems to have a hard time coming back to life after shutting down--flickering screen also the orange charge light goes off. Just happened again. This sucks.
Could be related to the charging function??
Did you installed any suspicious software lateley?
Have you tried a hard-reset? (do a backup first)
Now its hard rebootng by itself.
Its hard rebooting byitself now.
No new software. Looks like a trip to the shop where i bought it for service.
Pressing the power switch does a hard boot now.
Checking now the reset button--could be jammed.
On about the 10th hard reset--every time it completes installing and thenas soon as i press the on/off button it goes haywire
-or even before presing the buttton.
i have a similar problem, but i turned out to be that:
one my battery is dead, i cant recharge (charger at home)
i plug an external charger that uses 4 AA batteries...
it works fine, BUT when those 4 start to die, the xda
keep softreseting, somtimes even b4 it fully get booted.
so... check your main battery, maybe its dying on you!
Interesting!!
Took the unit to the shop today--they played around and at one point insisted that it was my sim card that was causing the problem.
Finally could see that the secondary battery had gone to 0% and was not recharging.
So in had to leave it there for extended service. Had to buy another mobile phone to use as a backup--bought the smallest thing i could find as I will use it at times i dont want to lug around the xda.
...you know, that could be true too, there is a small switch by the sim card, that if not pressed firmly, it resets the device.
a common problem if you remove the sim card often.

HTC touch 3g died!!!

Hi,
I am an owner of a HTC Touch 3g bought very recently. The device is in excellent condition and I did not have any trouble with it so far.
However, today when I was pressing the power button to deactivate the screen the reaction of the device was lagged by 4-5 sec. At some time I decided to reboot the device to solve the problem but since then...the device is DEAD, which means that does not start nor when I charge it reacts (light does not turn on).
Tried to have a hard reset but nothing happened.
Any ideas?????
remove the battery and any card(sim...µsd), then press the power button for a couple of seconds. reinsert the battery and connect to the charger, leave it there for a while.
i've had a similar issue with my walkman, when the battery was drained, and i mean REALLY drained, nothing would happen, not even when plugging into the charger. i had to wait about 10-15 minutes until the device showed life again
Tried that but didnt work.
The battery is charged, I charged it fully yesterday 4-5 hours before the incident.
Any new ideas? Thanks anyway...
Send it back where you bought it of course. What else?
Greetings from Portugal!
Same thing happened with my touch 3g, out of nowhere it hanged up this morning and when trying to turn it on again it quickly turned off by itself, and again on almost immediatly, this went on forever! Tried a hard reset and left the battery out for a few hours, but no results... oh well, back to the store and let's see what they say.
Just went last night back to the store, lucky for me they changed it for a brand new one instead of sending it to HTC Portugal for reparation (here in Portugal we have a 30 days return/exchange product policy in case of malfunction).
Best regards
reset button
have you tryed pressing the reset button located by where the memory card gose in ????

Phone won't turn on!

Hello guys.
I have a Jade (Touch 3g) which I have hard-spl'd and installed the SpaceJade WM6.5 rom like 2-3 months ago. Yesterday I have turned off the device and took out the battery to check the serial number. Device was working perfectly fine until I turned it off. Than I have noted the serial number and put the battery back in. Than I left my desk for like 45 minutes.
When I got back, I remembered that I did not turned it on. And when I tried to turn it back on, nothing happens! I have tried to charge it but even charging light is not lighting up!
I have tried the volume down + middle button + power button combination, even pressing the reset button, but no luck.
It is probably a hardware issue, which requires an authorized service station to look at it. But the problem is, I have hard-spl'd it and they are probably going to claim that it is out of warranty.
So my question is, which is really quite silly (but I still need to try), is there any way to load stock-spl before I send it to service station? I know it is not possible to install stock-spl without turning it on but maybe there is a chance
By the way, I did not made any chance on the phone or installed any programs in last one month.
may be..
Sometimes you simply have not correctly installed battery, so your phone can not give it power

no, I have installed the battery correctly, no problem. It is not possible to insert it in wrong direction anyway.
by the way, I have measured the battery with a multimeter, it reads 3,8 volts so battery is OK.

HD2 suddenly dead this morning

Hi there,
when I woke up this morning, I hit the power button to switch on the display, in order to see, if there are any emails. However, my HD2 would not switch on. Panically, I connected it to the power cable - no light on top. Aaah... What happened? Yesterday, in the evening, everything was totally fine, everything worked, no problems so far.
Then I took out the battery, put it back in and then the HD2 started up again. Thank God! The battery was still at 80% - so, I am still wondering, what happened to my phone tonight.
Do you have any idea? Did you have a similiar problem?
My blackberry had same issue like your. I replaced the battery, and problem solved. If it's happen to your hd2 again or more times, try to replace battery.
Is it possible you dropped or knocked the phone when you put it to sleep
the night before and dislodged the battery ?
it's probably just a "sudden phone death" problem like it has been first pointed out several months ago in this forum... relocating the battery to force a reboot usually works
Something within Sense or WinMo likely crashed whilst the phone is in standby and it wont recover without a battery pull or pressing the reset button (red one under the battery case).
Updating to another ROM/Radio can remove these problems.

Is my phone done for? (Cant bot/charge/enter download mode/no response)

So few days ago my phone suddenly turned off and kept rebotting itself (It would reach the samsung galaxy logo and then turn off). I thought it was a battery issue so I removed it for 30mins and tried again, worked fine for an hour then problem started again. I left it over night to charge in the wall socket incase.
Same issue next morning and no solution.
I replaced the battery with a friends and the same issue happened on my phone (i used my battery on his and it works fine on his) so I removed the issue of battery itself.
That evening the phone then just stopped responding at all. It would not respond to pressing the power button (no load, no vibration).
Tried entering download mode using vol down + home + power. Nothing. (So cant use Odin)
Tried entering recovery mode using vol up + power. Nothing
Tried hard reset using vol up + power + home. Nothing.
(All the steps I used a fully charged battery from another s4 phone and removed/re-entered before trying again)
So I check online and notice some people having issues with power button, but even if that is the case - wouldn't my phone still charge? I dont even get the battery chargning icon on the screen when plugged in either PC or wall socket.
I opened it up and changed the motherboard with another samsung s4 and my original problem mobo still does not load on the new s4. (My new mobo worked on the old device though).
The ONLY response I got was when I used my original mobo on new s4 device and plugged it into PC, it popped connect and then disconnect sound and thats it (doesnt recognize usb port).
What are my options apart from getting another motherboard or going to a shop for a JTAG repair? I was contemplating just removing the power button and seeing if that helps in getting a charge response lol
Well your power button is broken for sure. Replace it and then test it.

Wouldn't the phone still recognize charging even if the power button is faulty?

It always takes a few seconds before it starts to charge. So maybe the device reboots before reaching the charging phase. I'm guessing though. But since your problems started with power button issues it would be the logic place to start.
The part only costs a few dollars.
Well I'm exactly in the same situation as you, since this morning on a i9505 running JFLTPE-GPE 5.0 ROM. The screen appears for 1 second or 2 (Samsung logo) then it powers off . I need to remove the battery to try something else.
Same behaviour, even for recovery mode, so Odin is not an option.
I thought that changing some kernel settings have caused that, but as I just put them back to default values, it should not happen.
I didn't have some power button issues, it was just powered off at my wake up this morning. In your case, does your phone vibrate and power up instantly when you put the battery ? That's the case for me, but it should not be the normal.
My problem is actually solved : indeed, it was the power button. I removed all the screws and played a little with this power button (air dust, etc...), enough to make it start correctly !
I managed to do some backups, and now I hope that it won't break again.

Yeah, that happened before (automatically powering up, vibrating, going to samsung logo and then shutting down and doing it again until I removed battery - putting the battery back in with start it up without pressing the power button).
When it was in that phase, the one thing that did work was doing a soft reset (home+power+down vol, and then holding just power) - however that only worked for like an hour before it went back to the restart phase.
However now it doesn't respond to anything at all. (Any kind of response I got was when I put that mobo in another s4 and plugged in usb, which just gave a connected/disconnect sound on w7, no life on the phone itself).
Be very careful as to what you do, I suggest you do NOT leave the battery on it and charge it (which was the last thing I did before it went unresponsive) - my guess is phone went haywire trying to turn on/off continously.
