Hello all,
I have a Samsung tablet that will be most of the time inside my car since I use the android app "Hybrid Assistant" to monitor several parameters.
I have been reading several threads trying to inform myself so I can choose the right ROM, but I didn't find if there is a ROM that fulfills the following:
1.- When tablet is connected to USB, powered off and then gets power (when I turn my car on), it will turn on and boot directly to android.
2.- When it boots to android, it boots with root privilege automatically (i.e. it doesn't require the vol up + power button combination)
3.- Previous Bluetooth pairings are not forgotten after reboots (I read that there is a bug in some ROMs)
4.- This is not a must, but it would be cool if I can set a charging limit (i.e. the tablet will only be charged to 60% and not 100%, this way the battery is not stressed)
5.- Also not a must, but able to watch Netflix in 1080p.
I would appreciate if someone knows a ROM that fulfills all/most of the before mentioned points.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations

Last night I decided to switch off my HD2 to save some battery. What a critical mistake. In the morning the phone would't boot anymore. My wild guess is that you can't actually turn off your HD2, if you are on WP7.
I managed to find a workaround as I don't have a charging station at hand. That's how it works:
- Leave the phone off and connect it to your PC. Have a Win 6.5 CUSTOM ROM at hand. You will need a custom ROM because stock won't flash if your battery is less than 50%!
- With your phone connected switch in on while holding down "Vol Down". This way I was able go get to HSPL and stay there. It seems that if you enter HSPL with the phone connected to the PC it gets some power from there. If not connected to the PC my HD2 would immediately shut down!
- Flash your Win 6.5 ROM and charge fully.
- Go back to WP7, Android or whatever your heart desires
Easier solution, turn off, pull battery, replace. Simple. I found too that it didn't switch off properly (leave a usb cable plugged in & turn off) it just hangs on "Goodbye". Pulling the battery kills wp7, unless when you said "turned off my phone" you actually meant "turned off the screen" Obviously if you leave your phone in sleep overnight its gonna shed battery.
Hello All,
I searched the forum for the below details extensively before posting this. Please forgive me if there is a topic which covers this or if this is not the right forum for this question...
I am building a community surveillance system using android phones for my gated community. This is because of the requirement to have a cctv kind of system as there are lots of elderly people living with us here. Actual CCTV s have been pain to manage and lots of money was spent of rewiring recently so we decided on a new approach as it simply fails every other day.
At present We have managed to do these...
1. An app which clicks images every 10 second once and uploads to a system through wifi. Works perfectly.
2. Server on Linux to receive images and display in webpage. Works perfectly.
We desperately need help with these big problems.... and how to solve this...
1. Power. We want to keep the phone working 24/7 hours. We found out that the phone just looses charge randomly and suddenly sometimes and shuts down. But sometimes it goes on for 4 or 5 days at 100% battery level... shutsdown with low power just when we start feeling happy . Is there a way to actually prevent the usage of battery (bypass the battery) and run the phone directly from the charger power? we have a uninterrupted power supply for our chargers of phones. In this way the phone would thing the battery is 100% always.
2. How to automatically start the phone with out pressing the power button. We are placing the phones in a place were it is not easily reachable to people. If there is a way where in the phone can start automatically when given power with out requiring us to press the power button... bypass the power button and power up automatically when charger is turned on...
We are desperately trying to get some help.... need some guidance please...thanks in advance....
regards,
Sen
You may have this board to avoid the issues. Running android, usb camera(pc webcam),3g usb dongle or wifi.
No battery needed, no power key needed.

A relative has a "dead" (but hopefully revivable) S4 (an i337m Canadian variant) with roughly $500 worth of unbacked-up Bitcoin on its internal memory (not the MicroSD sadly).
To jump right into the important stuff:
The sadness:
- No charging light comes on when connected to a charger, computer, etc, via USB.
- Phone will not turn on at all, whether by use of the power button alone, power + volume up + home.
- I have tried powering up with all combinations of (battery / no battery) and USB to (charger / computer / unconnected).
- Battery is charged, and I've tried using a second OEM battery from my own S4.
- We've tried everything we can think of to recover the Bitcoin through other means, but I don't think it was ever properly backed up. This makes solutions involving system wipes (if we can even get that far) out of the question.
- Recovering the phone is a secondary consideration. It has been replaced with an S5, so getting it working is not really a priority, relative to recovering the BTC.
The hope:
- For one very brief moment, I got a PC to "ding" in recognition of the connection, and then the phone briefly showed the initial logo. I have not been able to replicate this since.
Any thoughts / ideas / suggestions? I'm open to almost anything at this stage.
Try a jig. Don't know if it'll work but worth a try

I made a car dock for my Nexus 7 (2012, running SlimKat ROM, on Lollipop).
It works great, except that if I don't drive for 2 or 3 days the battery runs down to zero while it's sleeping.
Is there an app that will shut the tablet down (completely) when the charging current goes away (when the car turns off)?
I tried "Autosleeper", which claims to do it, but even if you set "power off" it only puts the tablet into sleep mode (at least on Lollipop).
Alternatively, is there a way to really minimize the power draw in sleep mode automatically (turn off all radios, timers, apps, etc. until it's woken up by power coming back to the USB port)?
** solved **
OK, I figured it out.
Autosleeper works fine (shuts down the tablet) if the tablet is rooted. Not otherwise.
** NOT solved **
I spoke too soon.
It works ONCE. If you boot the tablet, set Autosleeper to power off on loss of USB power, it'll do it once (and prompt for permission to root).
Even if you say "permission granted always", after it reboots it goes back to just sleeping, not power off.
Hallo
I am looking for a new ROM for my rooted Note4.
I will use the phone only in my car.
Do anyone know a Rom were it is possible to start the phone automatically during plug in the charger and maybe switch of the phone during plug out?
Many thanks
Ralph
I don't know of a ROM like that. It would probably sit in a different part of the phone from where usual ROMs sit.
My phone uses almost no battery when in flight mode. So a simpler solution would be to switch to flight mode when power is not connected.
You can do that with Tasker.
Yeah I don't think there is a rom like that you could probably use a Tasker or other automation app to power off when you unplug it. To get it to start on plug in is harder. I think the kennel would need to be changed so instead of charge animation it would start. So it's probably possible but I don't think any developer is going do it.
