Hi everybody,
I almost always managed to find answers on xda-developers to problems or wishes I had when tinkering with my phone.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a solution for this one and hence my first post:
I always keep a fully charged spare battery with me just in case I run out of juice and I can't recharge.
However, when I exchange the run down battery by the full one, my battery status doesn't change and the phone switches off after a short while.
So far the only thing that works is briefly plugging in the phone with the replaced battery in it which will update battery status to 100% charge.
Obviously, this defeats the purpose of carrying a spare one around.
Is there a way I can force winmo to reset the battery status or another way to resolve it?
I don't mind if I have to rummage around in the registry if necessary.
Thanks in advance.

Sony Experia X1
ROM v. 1.03.937.6 (latest one released by Sony Ericsson)
Battery applications running: BattteryStatus Today-Plugin v. 1.05.146 beta7
tat is the case with some batteries.. i have 3 batteries and only 1 that is acting that way.. all u need to do is carry a usb plug.. just plug it in when u are at work or anytin just for 30secs it will update to its full status.. or u can buy another battery so u get at least 2 battery that works..
Thanks Cutefox,
That sounds like a simple but effective solution.
I will try it next time I replace my battery.
the weird thing is that it does it with Ericsson's original battery.
Nevertheless, I may not always have such a plug on me.
There must be a trigger though when the USB plug is inserted.
If we know how WinMo recognises a USB plug has been inserted (maybe a switch in the registry), we can fool it into thinking it was inserted, and I wouldn't have to carry a plug around.
Any other suggestions?

nah.. its not about the plug.. its more of the voltage.. there is a trigger sumwer in the battery that switches on when you charged full. the thing is if you use a non-official charger like battery clip charger which im using, it is not as smart as the official SE charger/usb plug.. i think its due to the battery being charge outside of the phone too.. in the beginning it was always doing it so i thought my battery is faulty.. but after awhile, even charging it through the battery clip charger i sometimes come up with full battery.. so i got no idea why this happen.. another thing that could help is once u boot the phone up and it says its empty battery/low battery, do a software softreset.. that sometimes trigger the switch and turn on the true battery power for me.. only on stubborn times that i need to use the usb plug.
Thanks Cutefox.
I understand that in this case WinMo can't change the battery status without at least a minor external charge.
Let me ask you this. What eventually switches off the phone?
Is it the battery's power management chip that cuts further power to the phone, or does WinMo cut the power when the battery status reports 0% remaining charge.
In the letter case I could write a script telling WinMo to ignore the power warning for a predefined time, which should allow me to reach a power outlet.
i never tried tat b4.. but usually if its 0%.. there are times when i used xperia for extensively heavy usage and it suddenly shuts off on me while battery is still abt 20%.. i cant remember if its this battery as well.. since i always bring more than 2 battery it does not really bothers me as i got another battery to sustain.. but from what i recalled is not the windows mob status report warning that shuts it off.. more of the battery power itself..
Thanks Cutefox,
I guess I'll have to get one of those penlite powered emergency chargers to kickstart my battery for now.
In the mean time I'll continue looking for alternative solutions and report them here if I find them.
Does anybody else have ideas?
excuse my curiousity, but how the hell do you guys get the phone to stay on while you swap the battery? As soon as I take my battery out, even if the phone is in standby, it loses all power and cold boots upon putting it back in and powering on...just wondering as it sounds like a more viable option now to carry a spare batt!

of course you power the phone down in the first place before you swap it. you cannot swap it while its on. well u can and it will turn off but that is pure stuffing up the phone. never do it to any fone as per advised by a sony ericsson repair guy as it stuffed some of the IC chip inside. always power down before changing battery likewise any other electronic device..

hey does those emergency chargers work to jump start it?? let me know if it does.. sounds like a brilliant idea, would be easy to use when u are on the go.. i might get one seeing that they are pretty cheap too..
Cutefox,
I'll try and let you know as soon as I get around to buying one and the situation re-occurs.
Cheers!

Hi,
i'm new to Android, after 7 years of Windows Mobile only phones.
I'm searching for a way to keep the phone turned on when plugged to power.
How do i achieve that with the Galaxy S?
I've made a search on the forum before asking, but didn't found the answer.
Um.
Don't turn it off, and then put the power lead in. Ta-Dah!

Try a different charger. The original is the best choice if you're using something else.
If you are using the original charger and it doesn't work, try connecting the phone to your computer using the supplied USB cable. If the phone charges ok without shutting down, your charger is probably faulty. If the phone shuts off on USB connection too, you probably have a faulty phone.

Yeah I tried to find a way to do this also. On WinMobile you can set two different screen-off controls based on battery or mains power, but couldnt see how to do this on Android.....
You know, I cant believe I just suggested there was something that WinMobile did that Android didnt.. It must just be hidden somewhere.
In fact, this is for the car.
I like to have the phone turned on when driving, and i'm using a phone charger for that purpose.
In Windows Mobile, you have the setting to not turn the screen off when the power is plugged. I do not see the equivalent in the settings of my SGS.
Ah, right, sorry, didn't realise you meant keep the screen on...
Oh, this is about "sleep mode"? The phone isn't "turned off" when the screen goes blank you know...
Here you go:
Settings/Applications/Development/Stay Awake
Thanks,
i'll try that when going home this evening.
can i9000 power up without the battery inserted?
I'm assuming you mean without the battery when it is plugged into the wall or a USB socket?
I can't say for sure but I've never seen a mobile that does work this way and can't think why you want to (after all it is a mobile). Having said that, laptops do allow you to do this so I could be wrong.
why don't you find out ?
it's easy, just remove the battery, and plug in the power cord
try to turn on the phone
and the result is....

All Nokia phones ive had could power of without the battery.
What?! Nobody tried this?
It took me 1 min to try this on USB connction and power plug and it did NOT power up, so the battery needs to be inserted.
My Nexus One could do that.
I didn't try with my SGS.
my old HTC Athena will not work properly without battery using stock ROM
but if flashed with a custom ROM, then it can work without the battery.
I hope we can do the same with SGS
because using stock ROM is no go
This is a weird thread.
Why just don't try it yourself? As someone already pointed out, and I will include myself here, the answer is NO.
On a side note, my old HTC Hero could power up with no battery but I cannot see any use for that, unless you are hot swapping batteries and don't want to restart your device?
This behavior started last night after activating Monitor power usage in the battery settings section. Deactivating it didnt help. I tried removing battery and that has not worked either. Im down to going back to stock or maybe even reinstalling an earlier Miui backup I have to see if that works first. Any advice would be appeciated, thanks.

And what's the problem with the screen turning on when you connect usb? It's normal and it also happens in stock roms.
I don't know if it's the same thing, but something similar happened to me too. What i did was just cleaning the micro-usb connector on the bottom of the phone. This never happened to me anymore.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you just created a connection between 2 pins in the connector, the same as when you plug in the charger, its normal behaviour, dont worry about it.
Go into Application settings (or Development, can't remember where it is on MIUI) and turn off "keep screen awake". It's for developers who don't want the phone to sleep while debugging.
Ok I think I finally found what was causing this. It only happens when USB debugging is turned off. When I turn it back on Im able to charge without the phone automatically booting back up. Im not sure if this is a bug. Should it be behaving like this?

Verrified that and its turned off. Turning debugging mode off causes my issue though. I find that kinda wierd.
USB debugging mode has always been weird on MIUI - on my GS2 it doesn't recognise that the USB cable has been disconnected until you reboot the phone.
Thanks for the tip, I've been wondering the same thing myself. This was a pain when I was trying to charge my phone at work with it off. Thanks.
PS: I really wish people would properly read the post before answering with the standard "it's normal, don't worry about it" etc. See it far too often.
Havnt been able to find a fix so far. What I do is I keep debugging mode off for everyday use and just turn it on when I need to recharge the phone over night. That way the phone stays off.
Hi
Recently i've bought this Htc Hd mini.It wasn't new.
Now, my problem is that the phone is charging only when the phone is off.
Could someone help me?
Welcome to HTC HD MINI Forum!
-Witch ROM are you using ?
-Have you tried Hard Reset?
-Do you use the original charging kit?
-How long does the battery last?

-I was using the original wm, but now i've flashed android with sense 3.5.
-No
-No, i used the usb cable and nokia charging kit.
-Not so much it can't take a day.
Also i can hear a strange noise coming from the charging kit. when it's plugged in. Could be an hardware error or software?
Better not do hard reset on the Android, can not help but bring you trouble ... to the charge I had the same case on CM 7.2, after a few reboot is to be changed do not know what the problem was, the developers are working on it, read forum you will find lots of information about
"i can hear a strange noise coming from the charging kit"
I would not use it, it is safer to be charged via USB cable.

Thx for reply. I don't think it's an android ROM problem. I had the same problem when i still used the wm 6.5
here's a solution
Flash Back to Wi-Mo and Check Setings\System\Power\Battery -Do not charge the battery if the phone is switched on and connected to a PC.
How do you know, that the phone is not charging?
The state of the LED (red/green/off) is changed by software (WM/Android), if the device is turned on, while the charging itself is controlled by hardware only.
You should check, if the phone is really not charging, while its turned on. Just ignore the charging LED and monitor the charging state of the battery after an hour, after you started with an almost empty one.
Best regards
@stahlnase, you're right when it comes to Android, but (windows phones) have software to control the charging. Something else;although we have through the nand installation erased entire phone, there are still some Wi-Mo "things" in this case battery setting or GPS was also associated with a Win-Mo settings. Regards!
I'm still not convinced, that the battery doesn't get recharged, just because the LED is not on
But you made an important point about enabling charging, while being connected to PC. Since demian12 is not using the HTC USB power supply, the device might "think" it is connected to a PC instead on a pure USB recharger. I believe, there are differences in the wiring of USB connectors to determine, if its a power and data plug or power supply only.
Regards.
can't flash back to wm.
I can't flash back to wm.
I have a sanddisk micro sd but is locked with a password unknown and at the second method i can't find a rom suitable for my phone.Error 294.
I can provide only this info:
IMEI:357215036311986
S/N: SH09FPZ00227
P\N: 99HKN017-00 F
Thanks for help
Ps:i tried that thing. I tried to charge it with low battery but it only keeps restarting. So i have to let it off a few minutes then charge it when it have at least 10% on the indicator.

another problem
Ok, i've flashed the original wm 6.5 greek rom.
After that, my phone won't charge at all.It shows a solid orange light for 3 seconds then it starts blinking.
I can start my phone but it closed soon, after wm boot.
Because your battery is completely empty ... it is necessary to leave some time (5-10 min) to charge, ignore charging indicator, the battery is charging! After ten minutes put the battery out / in and start a Phone.
Go to: Setings \ System \ Power \ Battery.
And Unselect option: -Do not charge the battery if the phone is switched on and connected to a PC.
Done
all night

Thanks for the help
hello
Still me, new info
I tried with another battery.Surprize my phone shows that, that one is empty too.
Strange isn't it?
Any ideea?
If you have a good HTC charger and battery doesn't charge after you reseted windows to factory default, then your problem is hardware related.
Of course I have some ideas, but do not have time until Monday to deal with anything. Sorry. I have a suspicion that Nokia charger burned your phone. Of course, should be checked, maybe is a bug in the Android battery driver, and with the help of a trick to make the jump and put everything into place. either way, do not give up, try again and again to turn on your phone.
